Research using the 11-scenario police integrity instrument designed by Klockars et al. document a range of factors influencing the willingness to report a fellow officer for police crime and police misconduct. A consistent quandary within this scholarship is that while some findings are consistent, when disaggregated by scenario type, there are wide variations obscuring patterns that may allow for targeted interventions improving police integrity. This study applies support vector machines (SVMs) to construct predictors for 608 responses to the Police Integrity Instrument from police officers enrolled in a police university for in-service training in China. Results confirm that while perceptions of seriousness remain the most successful predictors of the self-reported willingness to report a fellow officer, perceptions of seriousness associated with ethical dilemmas display high survivability suggesting targeted interventions may be an effective pathway towards improving police integrity. In this study, we examine to what extent availability of a crisis center in a behavioral health district is related to changes in emergency hold petitions and outcomes of those holds as submitted by police officers. Using data from between 2010 and 2020 and a series of interrupted time series analysis, we analyze 22,619 police petitions for involuntary commitment and their outcomes related to crisis center availability. Results show inconsistent and varied effects between availability of a crisis center and emergency hold petitions. Similar results are observed for the emergency hold evaluation process outcome and associated final disposition outcome. The implementation of crisis centers in the study site may not have achieved the immediate goals of reducing the use of the emergency hold petitions nor relevant outcomes. The results vary in direction and magnitude indicating there is more research to be done to understand if, and how, crisis center availability and use are associated with changes in the involuntary emergency hold system. This study examines the relationship between the role of the society at large and the code of silence in China and South Korea. Although both countries embrace Confucianism and have similar geographic, political, and cultural traditions, they have developed quite distinctly in recent years. The data for this study were collected from police officers attending in-service training at national training academies in both countries using the police integrity methodology. The respondents evaluated four scenarios describing examples of police corruption. Our multivariate models demonstrate that, once the police integrity measures and demographic characteristics are controlled for, the country has an independent effect on the respondents' adherence to the code of silence in all four scenarios. These results suggest that, despite many commonalities in their cultural and political traditions, two countries create different integrity environments. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the influence of stress, by way of subdimensions of anxiety, and depression, on police officers' perceptions of the seriousness of various forms of misconduct in the context of China. Findings show that different dimensions of stress have differing effects on the level of seriousness ascribed, and those influences vary based on the type of unethical behavior. While depression reduces officers' perceived seriousness of misconduct, the effects of anxiety on perceptions are more nuanced. The study suggests the development of related policies to curb unethical behavior should consider stress, and its related subdimensions, while also considering how subgroups of officers may respond to stress in different ways. The realization of these efforts may contribute to the development of targeted interventions for improving ethical thinking and decision-making among police officers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The way we access pornography has certainly changed over time, as has the depth and breadth of pornographic content. Yet, despite decades of research on the effects of pornography, far less is known about specific genres, consumption patterns, and the characteristics of those consuming varying types of content. Utilizing Google search trends and image searches, this research explores the interest and relationships at the macro level within the niche of youth-oriented pornography. Results indicate that interest varies based on gender, age, geographic origin, and income. Future research and policy implications based upon the findings are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
