This study elucidated the unique pathological features of tissue healing by magnamosis and revealed the changes in landmark molecule expression levels related to collagen synthesis and tissue hypoxia. Forty-eight male Sprague–Dawley rats were divided into the magnamosis and suture anastomosis groups, and gastrojejunal anastomosis surgery was performed. Rats were dissected at 6, 24, and 48 h and 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12 days postoperatively. Hematoxylin, eosin, and Masson's trichrome staining were used to evaluate granulation tissue proliferation and collagen synthesis density at the anastomosis site. Immunohistochemistry was used to measure TGF-β1 and HIF-1α expression levels. Magnamosis significantly shortened the operation time, resulting in weaker postoperative abdominal adhesions (P < 0.0001). Histopathological results showed a significantly lower granulation area in the magnamosis group than in the suture anastomosis group (P = 0.0388), with no significant difference in the density of collagen synthesis (P = 0.3631). Immunohistochemistry results indicated that the magnamosis group had significantly lower proportions of TGF-β1-positive cells at 24 (P = 0.0052) and 48 h (P = 0.0385) postoperatively and HIF-1α-positive cells at 24 (P = 0.0402) and 48 h postoperatively (P = 0.0005). In a rat model of gastrojejunal anastomosis, magnamosis leads to improved tissue healing at the gastrojejunal anastomosis, associated with downregulated expression levels of TGF-β1 and HIF-1α. Heart failure (HF) can be caused by a variety of causes characterized by abnormal myocardial systole and diastole. Ca2+ current through the L-type calcium channel (LTCC) on the membrane is the initial trigger signal for a cardiac cycle. Declined systole and diastole in HF are associated with dysfunction of myocardial Ca2+ function. This disorder can be correlated with unbalanced levels of phosphorylation / dephosphorylation of LTCC, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and myofilament. Kinase and phosphatase activity changes along with HF progress, resulting in phased changes in the degree of phosphorylation / dephosphorylation. It is important to realize the phosphorylation / dephosphorylation differences between a normal and a failing heart. This review focuses on phosphorylation / dephosphorylation changes in the progression of HF and summarizes the effects of phosphorylation / dephosphorylation of LTCC, ER function, and myofilament function in normal conditions and HF based on previous experiments and clinical research. In this paper, we discuss the quantum circuit implementations of the lightweight authenticated encryption algorithm ASCON by using the NOT gates, CNOT gates, Toffoli gates, measurements, and the dynamic quantum circuits. Firstly, the quantum circuit of addition of constants is realized by adding the NOT gates according to the position of 1 in round constants. Secondly, the quantum circuit of S-box of the permutation is synthesized according to the classical circuit diagram of S-box. Then the linear layer functions are expressed in matrix form, and their quantum circuits are synthesized according to Gaussian elimination. Finally, we synthesize the whole quantum circuits according to the general diagrams of the authenticated encryption algorithm ASCON. The correctness of the quantum circuits of the S-box and the linear layer was verified by the Aer simulator of the IBM Quantum platform. As far as we know, this is the first implementation of the quantum circuits for the Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (AEAD) of ASCON in-place. The maximum quantum resources for the three ASCON authenticated encryption algorithms were estimated. The quantum circuit of ASCON-128 uses a total of 320 qubits, 30,639 NOT gates, 128,814 CNOT gates, 8064 Toffoli gates, 10,752 measurements, and 5376 dynamic quantum circuits. The quantum circuit of ASCON-128a uses a total of 320 qubits, 23,558 NOT gates, 98,144 CNOT gates, 6144 Toffoli gates, 8192 measurements, and 4096 dynamic quantum circuits. As an essential drinking water source and one of the largest eutrophic shallow lakes in China, the management of Lake Taihu requires an adequate understanding of its hydrodynamic characteristics. Studying the hydrodynamic characteristics of Lake Taihu based on field observations is limited owing to its large area and the lack of flow field stability. Previous studies using hydrodynamic models experienced challenges, such as dimensionality and lack of dynamic response analysis between flow field and realistic wind; therefore, the results were still inconclusive. In this study, a 3D model of Lake Taihu, calibrated and validated based on field observations, was used to simulate and compare three scenarios: windless, steady wind, and realistic wind. The hydrodynamic characteristics of Lake Taihu were analyzed as close to the actual conditions as possible. The results showed that wind-driven currents dominated the flow field in Lake Taihu, and the horizontal velocity driven by wind was more than 6 times that without wind. Observing a stable flow field in Lake Taihu was difficult because of the variability of realistic wind. The hydrodynamic characteristics of Lake Taihu were defined as "strongly affected by wind," "higher on the surface and smaller at the bottom," and "difference between the surface and the bottom." Vertical turbulent kinetic energy can be used to characterize the variable flow field of a wind-driven lake and has a positive correlation with wind speed. In this study, glucose oxidase (GOD) was fixed on ferrimagnetic vortex-domain iron oxide nanorings (FVIOs) using the covalent bond crosslinking method to create FVIOs-GOD compounds. The activity of surface-conjugated enzymes can be effectively and selectively enhanced by utilizing FVIOs to induce magnetothermal effects under the influence of alternating magnetic fields. GOD can further catalyze the oxidation of glucose to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which possesses bactericidal properties. This study presents a comprehensive technique for controlling the activity of enzymes by nano-magnetothermal stimulation, which was utilized in Escherichia coli antibacterial studies. In comparison to the control group, the enzyme activity of the FVIOs-GOD immobilized enzymes rose by 50 % due to the nano-magnetothermal stimulation, and the enzyme activity could be controlled by varying the magnetic field intensity. AlSiC is an advanced metal ceramic composite material in which active brazed silicon carbide ceramic circuit boards are mainly used for packaging third-generation semiconductor power modules, with high reliability and heat dissipation ability. Five Al/3C-SiC systems were established in this study, and the wetting characteristics of Al droplets from 900 K to 1450 K, including the wetting angle, self-diffusion coefficient, and interfacial energy, were analyzed. Although the embedding of C atoms in the groove systems dispersed the densities of Al droplets to some extent, they intensified the aggregation of atoms near the symmetric centerline of the droplets. At a certain temperature, the activity of the C atom was greater than that of the Si atom, and the probability of binding between the C atom and the Al atom was greater than that between the C atom and the Si atom, which increased the migration of the Al atom, especially on the surface of silicon carbide embedded with atoms. At temperatures ranging from 900 K to 1450 K, Al droplets were all in the wetting stage in a wedge groove system embedded with C atoms, while the other four systems transitioned from hydrophobic to wetting at a certain temperature, indicating that wedge grooves embedded with C atoms could significantly improve the wettability of Al droplets on the surface of 3C-SiC. Background: Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) constitutes a group of heterogeneous malignancies within the liver. We sought to subtype ICC based on anatomical origin of tumors, as well as propose modifications of the current classification system. Methods: Patients undergoing curative-intent resection for ICC, hilar cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were identified from three international multi-institutional consortia of databases. Clinicopathological characteristics and survival outcomes were assessed. Results: Among 1264 patients with ICC, 1066 (84.3%) were classified as ICC-peripheral subtype, whereas 198 (15.7%) were categorized as ICC-perihilar subtype. Compared with ICC-peripheral subtype, ICC-perihilar subtype was more often associated with aggressive tumor characteristics, including a higher incidence of nodal metastasis, macro- and microvascular invasion, perineural invasion, as well as worse overall survival (OS) (median: ICC-perihilar 19.8 vs. ICC-peripheral 37.1 months; p < 0.001) and disease-free survival (DFS) (median: ICC-perihilar 12.8 vs. ICC-peripheral 15.2 months; p = 0.019). ICC-perihilar subtype and hilar CCA had comparable OS (19.8 vs. 21.4 months; p = 0.581) and DFS (12.8 vs. 16.8 months; p = 0.140). ICC-peripheral subtype tumors were associated with more advanced tumor features, as well as worse survival outcomes versus HCC (OS, median: ICC-peripheral 37.1 vs. HCC 74.3 months; p < 0.001; DFS, median: ICC-peripheral 15.2 vs. HCC 45.5 months; p < 0.001). Conclusions: ICC should be classified as ICC-perihilar and ICC-peripheral subtype based on distinct clinicopathological features and survival outcomes. ICC-perihilar subtype behaved more like carcinoma of the bile duct (i.e., hilar CCA), whereas ICC-peripheral subtype had features and a prognosis more akin to a primary liver malignancy. Necroptosis has received increasing attention and is extensively studied as a recently discovered mode of cell death distinct from necrosis and apoptosis. It is a programmed cell death with a necrotic morphology that occurs in various biological processes, including inflammation, immune response, embryonic development, and metabolic abnormalities. Necroptosis is indispensable in maintaining tissue homeostasis in vivo and closely correlates with the occurrence and development of various diseases. First, we outlined the etiology of necroptosis and how it affects the onset and development of prevalent liver diseases in this review. Additionally, we reviewed the therapeutic strategy by targeting the necroptosis pathway in related liver diseases. We conclude that the necroptosis signaling pathway is critical in the physiological control of liver diseases' onset, progression, and prognosis. It will likely be used as a therapeutic target in the future. Further research is required to determine the mechanisms governing the necroptosis signaling pathway and the effector molecules. The nanoscale thermal effect of ferrimagnetic vortex-domain iron oxide nanorings (FVIOs) was measured when exposed to an alternating magnetic field. A molecular temperature probe (fluorescein isomer I, FI) was attached to a thermo-sensitive molecule (4,4′-Azobis (4-cyanovaleric acid, AZO), then the molecule was bound to the nanoparticle surface through poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG, Mw = 1000, 2000, 5000 Da) spacers of different molecular weights. The magnetothermal effect induced the thermal decomposition of AZO driving the release of FI which was monitored by the photoluminescence method. It was found that the effective local temperature (Teff) decreased with the increase of Mw (PEG) and increased with the rise in field amplitudes B, and the temperature was found in a linear relationship with the applied magnetic field at all distances. The significant local heating temperature (T) rose to 60.3 °C when d = 0 of FVIOs, where d is the distance of the AZO-FI end group to the surface, while it fell exponentially with the increasing distance. The nanoscale thermal effect of the 20 nm superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIOs) was also studied. The results revealed that FVIOs have much higher nanometer local heat than SPIOs for all the applied magnetic field amplitudes. These findings were then applied in the enzyme activity regulation experiment of FVIOs and SPIOs. Background: To explore the risk factors of ureteral stricture in transplant kidney and the clinical effects of different treatment methods. Methods: The 62 patients with transplant kidney ureteral stenosis as the experimental group, and another group of recipients from the same donor as the control group (n = 59 cases). The risk factors for ureteral stricture and the survival rate of transplant kidney were analyzed and compared. The 62 patients were divided into open operation, luminal operation, and magnetic compression anastomosis (MCA) operation group. The effect of the operation and the survival rate of transplant kidney among the three groups were compared. Results: In our study, we found that the above differences were statistically significant in clinical data such as gender, multiple donor renal arteries, history of infection, and delayed graft function (DGF) between the two groups (P < 0.05). Urinary tract infection and DGF history were the independent risk factors for the development of ureteral stricture. The open operation had the best treatment effect and the survival rate of the transplant kidney, followed by the MCA, the stricture recurrence rate in the luminal operation was the highest. Conclusion: The ureteral stricture has a negative correlation with the long-term survival rate of the transplant kidney, the curative rate and long-term effect of open surgery are the best, stricture recurrence rate of luminal surgery is high, and it may require multiple operations in the future, the MCA is a new breakthrough and innovation in the treatment of ureteral stricture. Background: We sought to investigate whether the unique lateral patterns of lymphatic drainage impacted lymphadenectomy (LND), lymph node metastasis (LNM), and long-term survival of patients after curative hemi-hepatectomy for left- versus right-sided intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Methods: Data on patients who underwent curative hemi-hepatectomy for left- or right-sided ICC were collected from 15 high-volume centers worldwide, as well as from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) registry. Primary outcomes included overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS). Results: Among 697 patients identified from the multi-institutional database, patients who underwent hemi-hepatectomy for left-sided ICC (n = 363, 52.1%) were more likely to have an increased number of LND versus patients with right-sided ICC (n = 334, 47.9%) (median, left 5 versus right 3, p = 0.012), although the frequency (left 66.4% versus right 63.8%, p = 0.469) and station (beyond station no. 12, left 25.3% versus right 21.1%, p = 0.293) were similar. Consequently, left-sided ICC was associated with higher incidence of LNM (left 33.3% versus right 25.7%, p = 0.036), whereas the station and number of LNM were not different (both p > 0.1). There was no difference in OS (median, left 34.9 versus right 29.6 months, p = 0.130) or DFS (median, left 14.5 versus right 15.2 months, p = 0.771) among patients who underwent hemi-hepatectomy for left- versus right-sided ICC, which were also verified in the SEER dataset. LNM beyond station no. 12 was associated with even worse long-term survival versus LNM within station no. 12 among patients with either left- or right-sided ICC after curative-intent resection (all p < 0.05). Unique physical characteristics make AlSiC an important packaging material for power electronics devices such as insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs). In the present study, we performed classical molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the effect of the 4H-SiC surface termination characteristics on the wettability of molten Al droplets. This result has considerable significance for improving the wettability between a matrix and reinforcing particles, which is required to prepare AlSiC composites by the casting method. Density profile analysis was adopted to calculate the contact angles θ of Al droplets on a surface of SiC, including Si- and C-terminated surfaces. The calculated angles θ were 99.8° and 81.7°, respectively. The stratification of the droplet density in the C-terminated system depended strongly on the terminated characteristics of the SiC surface and helped increase the wettability of droplets in this system. In addition, droplet diffusion on the Si-terminated surface was obviously slower than that on the C-terminated surface. The wetting characteristic of molten Al droplets depended strongly on the interaction energy, indicating that the surface terminated characteristics had a strong effect on the wettability of the SiC surface. Compared to the results for the Si-terminated surface, the molten Al droplet had a considerably smaller contact angle and the C-terminated surface showed a higher wettability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The current study aimed to develop a dynamic prognostic model for patients undergoing curative-intent resection for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) using landmark analysis. Methods: Patients who underwent curative-intent surgery for ICC from 1999 to 2017 were selected from a multi-institutional international database. A landmark analysis to undertake dynamic overall survival (OS) prediction was performed. A multivariate Cox proportional hazard model was applied to measure the interaction of selected variables with time. The performance of the model was internally cross-validated via bootstrap resampling procedure. Discrimination was evaluated using the Harrell's Concordance Index. Accuracy was evaluated with calibration plots. Results: Variables retained in the multivariable Cox regression OS model included age, tumor size, margin status, morphologic type, histologic grade, T and N category, and tumor recurrence. The effect of several variables on OS changed over time. Results were provided as a survival plot and the predicted probability of OS at the desired time in the future. For example, a 65-year-old patient with an intraductal, T1, grade 3 or 4 ICC measuring 3 cm who underwent an R0 resection had a calculated estimated 3-year OS of 76%. The OS estimate increased if the patient had already survived 1 year (79%). The discrimination ability of the final model was very good (C-index: 0.80). Conclusion: The long-term outcome for patients undergoing curative-intent surgery for ICC should be adjusted based on follow-up time and intervening events. To ensure the reliability of complex structures, a novel reliability assessment method combining an active learning kriging (ALK) model with adaptive weighted importance sampling (AWIS), the ALK–AIWS, was proposed in this work. The initial design of experiment (DoE) points were first generated using a modified Metropolis algorithm to construct a kriging metamodel. The Markov chain state seeds were then used as the centers for the importance sampling density function to simulate the training data in a given important region. Thus, the kriging surrogate model was updated using the revised DoE produced by the active learning function, and the failure probability can be evaluated using the entire training data set. An AWIS method was also introduced considering the contribution of the design point to the structural failure probability. Finally, the failure probabilities of several numerical examples and a complex engineering design case were evaluated verifying the efficiency, accuracy, and applicability of the proposed ALK–AWIS method, which provides an alternative approach to reliability evaluation in practical engineering applications. Background: Hepatic lipid accumulation is one of the main pathological features of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Metformin serves as an AMPK activator and has been shown to have lipids lowering effects in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), but its role in ALD remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to explore the potential mechanism of metformin regulating lipid metabolism in ALD. Methods and results: In vitro and in vivo ALD models were established using AML12 cells and C57BL/6 mice, respectively. To determine the effect of metformin on ALD in vitro, the concentration of cellular triglyceride was examined by Nile red staining and a biochemical kit. To further reveal the role of metformin on ALD in vivo, liver tissues were examined by HE and oil red O staining, and the levels of ALT and AST in serum were determined via an automatic biochemical analyzer. The expression of mRNA and proteins were measured using qRT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The role of the LKB1/AMPK/ACC axis on metformin regulating ethanol-induced lipid accumulation was evaluated by siRNA and AAV-shRNA interference. The results showed metformin reduced the ethanol-induced lipid accumulation in AML12 cells through activating AMPK, inhibiting ACC, reducing SREBP1c, and increasing PPARα. In addition, compared with control mice, metformin treatment inhibited ethanol-induced liver triglyceride accumulation and the increase of ALT and AST in serum. Interference with LKB1 attenuated the effect of metformin on ethanol-induced lipid accumulation both in vitro and in vivo. Many methods are used to locate preoperative small pulmonary nodules. However, deficiencies of complications and success rates exist. We introduce a novel magnetic gel for small pulmonary nodules localization in rabbit model, and furtherly evaluate its safety and feasibility. Rabbits were used as the experimental objects. A magnetic gel was used as a tracer magnet, mixed as sodium alginate-Fe3O4 magnetic fluid and calcium gluconate solution. In short-term localization, a coaxial double-cavity puncture needle was applied to inject the gel into the lung after thoracotomy, and a pursuit magnet made of Nd-Fe-B permanent magnetic materials was used to attract the gel representing location of the nodule. In long-term localization, the gel was injected under X-ray guidance. Imaging changes to the lung were observed under X-ray daily. Thoracotomy was performed to excise tissue containing the gel, and hematoxylin–eosin staining was used to observe the tissue on postoperative days 1, 3, 5, and 7. Observe tissues morphology of heart, liver, spleen, and kidney in the same way. The gel was formed after injection and drew lung tissue to form a protrusion from the lung surface under the applied magnetic field. No complication was observed. The shape and position of the gel had not changed when viewed under X-ray. Pathological analysis showed the gel had a clear boundary without diffusion of magnetic fluid. All tissues retained good histologic morphology and no magnetic fluid was observed. Our study preliminarily suggested that the technique using sodium alginate-Fe3O4 magnetic gel to locate small pulmonary nodules with guidance of X-ray, and to search for them under an applied magnetic field during the operation is safe and feasible. Poplar is raw material for various panel, paper and fiber products. The 12 sample trees of clone Nanlin-895 from four spacings were destructively harvested after thirteen growing seasons to assess the influence of spacing on radial growth and wood properties. Spacing significantly affected tree-ring width and wood basic density (p < 0.05) but not fiber traits. The highest diameter and wood basic density at breast height (1.3 m) was in 6 m × 6 m and 3 m × 8 m spacings, respectively. However, no significant differences in tree-ring width, wood basic density and fiber traits were observed among the four sampling directions in discs taken at 1.3 m for each spacing. Growth rings from the pith and tree heights had significant effects on wood basic density and fiber anatomical characteristics, highlighting obvious temporal-spatial variations. Pearson correlation analysis showed a significantly negative relationship of tree-ring width to wood basic density, fiber length and fiber width, but a significantly positive relationship to hemicellulose. There was no relationship with cellulose and lignin contents. Based on a comprehensive assessment by the TOPSIS method, the 6 m × 6 m spacing is recommended for producing wood fiber at similar sites in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Dissecting lymph nodes along the left recurrent laryngeal nerve (LRLN) is the most challenging step in thoracoscopic-assisted esophagectomy. To retract the proximal esophagus in the existing lymphadenectomy methods, either a special trocar is required to insert and take out endoscopic instruments or thoracic punctures are needed to externally retract the esophageal loop. Therefore, advanced skills for esophageal traction are important to facilitate the LRLN lymphadenectomy and to reduce the incidence of trauma to the chest wall. Herein, we present the magnetic anchoring and traction technique, a novel method for LRLN lymphadenectomy during thoracoscopic esophagectomy.Methods: The magnetic anchoring traction system was successfully used to retract the upper thoracic esophagus and to help expose the upper mediastinum in 10 cases of thoracoscopic-assisted esophagectomy. When the external magnet was moved outside of body, the internal magnet was coupled with a magnetic force to pull the proximal esophagus to the appropriate direction, which helped to expose the LRLN and adjacent lymph nodes. The lymph nodes adjacent to the LRLN could then be dissected completely without any damage to the nerve.Results: In all surgeries, the LRLN and adjacent lymph nodes were well visualized, and the number of trocars used to pass endoscopic instruments for retraction of the proximal esophagus or the number of thoracic punctures for external traction of the esophagus during the surgery were reduced.Conclusions: In thoracoscopic-assisted esophagectomy, the magnetic anchoring and traction technique can improve the exposure of the LRLN, facilitate LRLN lymphadenectomy, and reduce chest wall trauma. This article reports the first occurrence of leaf blight disease caused by Pestalotiopsis neolitseae on Photinia × fraseri plants in China. The disease was observed on 70% of the plants in Chengdu, China, and presented as necrotic tissues with brown margins and expanding lesions. The fungus was identified through morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, and Koch's postulates were fulfilled to confirm its pathogenicity. Mesenchymal stem cells adopt differentiation pathways based upon cumulative effects of mechanosensing. A cell's mechanical microenvironment changes substantially over the course of development, beginning from the early stages in which cells are typically surrounded by other cells and continuing through later stages in which cells are typically surrounded by extracellular matrix. How cells erase the memory of some of these mechanical microenvironments while locking in memory of others is unknown. Here, we develop a material and culture system for modifying and measuring the degree to which cells retain cumulative effects of mechanosensing. Using this system, we discover that effects of the RGD adhesive motif of fibronectin (representative of extracellular matrix), known to impart what is often termed "mechanical memory" in mesenchymal stem cells via nuclear YAP localization, are erased by the HAVDI adhesive motif of the N-cadherin (representative of cell-cell contacts). These effects can be explained by a motor clutch model that relates cellular traction force, nuclear deformation, and resulting nuclear YAP re-localization. Results demonstrate that controlled storage and removal of proteins associated with mechanical memory in mesenchymal stem cells is possible through defined and programmable material systems. Mechanisms of the proliferation of liver are mainly studied in animal model of liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy (PH). However, the PH model involves complex regeneration mechanisms, including hemodynamic factors, cytokines, growth factors, and metabolites. Among liver metabolites, bile acid (BA) is a key signaling molecule that regulates liver regeneration. This study aimed to establish a new type of rapid liver hyperplasia model induced mainly by bile acid pathway through hepatoenteral circulation with hilar bile duct ligation (HBDL). We first established the HBDL model by ligating the bile duct of all hepatic lobes but the right lateral lobe in rabbits and compared with the PVL model and sham operation group. Changes in the liver lobe and hemodynamics were observed. Liver function and the bile acid level were also analyzed. Then we verified the HBDL model in mice. Liver function and the levels of bile acids and cytokines were tested. The protein and mRNA levels of FXR, FGF15, CYP7A1 and FoxM1b in liver tissue were also analyzed. After hilar ligation of the biliary tract, the unligated liver lobes proliferated significantly. Compared with those in the sham group, the volume and weight of the unligated right lateral lobe of the liver in the HBDL group and the PVL group increased significantly (P < 0.05). Transient liver function impairment occurred both in the HBDL group and PVL group in the rabbit model as well as the mouse models. The bile acid levels in the HBDL groups of the rabbit model and mouse model increased significantly within first week after surgery (P < 0.05). The immunohistochemistry results confirmed the proliferation of hepatocytes in the unligated liver lobe. Compared with those in the sham group, the levels of FXR, FGF15 and FoxM1b in the HBDL group were significantly increased (P < 0.05), while the expression of CYP7A1 was inhibited. Compared with those in the HBDL group, the postoperative hemodynamic changes in the PVL group were significant (P < 0.05). The levels of IL-6 and TNF-α in the HBDL group were higher than those in the sham group. The HBDL model is simple to establish and exhibits good surgical tolerance. The model has definite proliferative effect and strong specificity of bile acid pathway. This is an ideal animal model to study the mechanism of liver regeneration through bile acid pathway. Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of magnetic anchoring and guidance-assisted endoscopic irreversible electroporation (MAG-IRE) for gastric mucosal ablation. Methods: A catheter-based, donut-like, and MAG-assisted electrode was developed. MAG-IRE for gastric mucosal ablation was performed in eight beagle canines. The parameters of one set of IRE was 500 V voltage, 100 μs pulse duration, and 99 pulses. The MAG time, operation time, success rate, and adverse events were measured. Endoscopic examination was performed from 30 min to 28 days post-IRE. Full-thickness gastric tissue was harvested by wedge biopsy for histopathological analysis. Results: 30 (93.75%) of the 32 lesions were successfully ablated by MAG-IRE. The median MAG time was 300 s (IQR 120–422.5 s), and the median operation time was 491.5 s (IQR 358.3–632.5 s). No adverse events occurred. Ulceration was observed, starting from 3 days post-IRE. The mucosa healed 14 to 28 days post-IRE. Hematoxylin–Eosin (H&E) staining showed inflammatory infiltration, edema, and congestion in the ablated mucosa. Masson's Trichrome staining showed that the gastric wall and blood vessels in the ablation area were intact. TUNEL assay showed diffuse positive cells in ablated mucosa as early as 30 min post-IRE. Conclusions: MAG-IRE for gastric mucosal ablation is feasible, safe, and effective. It can be a potential therapeutic option for minimally invasive treatment of gastric neoplasm. Highlights: A series of novel injectable pH-responsive self-healing hydrogels with enhanced adhesive strength were prepared. The hydrogels showed good gastric hemostasis property in a swine gastric hemorrhage model. Herein, a series of injectable pH-responsive self-healing adhesive hydrogels based on acryloyl-6-aminocaproic acid (AA) and AA-g-N-hydroxysuccinimide (AA-NHS) were developed, and their great potential as endoscopic sprayable bioadhesive materials to efficiently stop hemorrhage and promote the wound healing process was further demonstrated in a swine gastric hemorrhage/wound model. The hydrogels showed a suitable gelation time, an autonomous and efficient self-healing capacity, hemostatic properties, and good biocompatibility. With the introduction of AA-NHS as a micro-cross-linker, the hydrogels exhibited enhanced adhesive strength. A swine gastric hemorrhage in vivo model demonstrated that the hydrogels showed good hemostatic performance by stopping acute arterial bleeding and preventing delayed bleeding. A gastric wound model indicated that the hydrogels showed excellent treatment effects with significantly enhanced wound healing with type I collagen deposition, α-SMA expression, and blood vessel formation. Liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) play a key role in the initiation and neoangiogenesis of liver regeneration. We presume that the abnormity of the VEGF/VEGFR2 and its pathway gene Id1, Wnt2 and HGF expression in aged LSECs may be an important mechanism to affect liver regeneration of the elderly. LSECs from two different groups (adult and old) were isolated in a rodent model, and observed by SEM and TEM. The adult and old rats were underwent 70% partial hepatectomy. The proliferation of hepatocytes and LSECs were analyzed by Immunofluorescence staining. The expression of VEGF/VEGFR2 and its pathway gene in isolated LSECs and liver tissue after hepatectomy were detected by qRT-PCR and Western blot. There is a decreased number of endothelial fenestrae in the LSECs of the old group, compared to the adult group. The old group had a lower expression of VEGF/VEGFR2 and its pathway gene than the adult groups (p < 0.01). The results of western blot were consistent with those of qRT-PCR. The hepatocytes had a high proliferation rate at first 4 days after hepatectomy, and a significantly higher proliferation rate in the adult group. The LSECs began to proliferate after 4 days of hepatectomy, and showed a quantity advantage in the adult group. The adult group had a significantly higher expression of VEGF/VEGFR2 and its pathway gene after hepatectomy than the old group (p < 0.01). The prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) is a research hotspot. This study aimed to incorporate important factors obtained from SEER database to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting the cancer-specific survival (CSS) of patients with HCC and ICC. We obtained patient data from SEER database. The nomogram was constructed base on six prognostic factors for predicting CSS rates in HCC patients. The nomogram was validated by concordance index (C-index), the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and calibration curves. A total of 3227 patients diagnosed with HCC (3038) and ICC (189) between 2010 and 2015 were included in this study. The C-index of the nomogram for HCC patients was 0.790 in the training cohort and 0.806 in the validation cohort. The 3- and 5-year AUCs were 0.811 and 0.793 in the training cohort. The calibration plots indicated that there was good agreement between the actual observations and predictions. In conclusion, we constructed and validated a nomogram for predicting the 3- and 5-year CSS in HCC patients. Background: Laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) has been proven to be a safe and advantageous procedure. To ensure that resections of appropriate difficulty are selected, an objective preoperative grading of difficulty is required. We aimed to develop a predictive difficulty grading of LS based on intraoperative complications. Methods: A total of 272 non-traumatic patients who underwent LS were identified from a regional medical center. Patients were randomized into a training cohort (n = 222) and a validation cohort (n = 50). Data on demographics, medical and surgical history, operative and pathological characteristics, and postoperative outcome details were collected. Univariate and multivariate analyses of risk factors for intraoperative complications were performed to develop a difficulty scoring system. The Spearman correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the relationship between the difficulty grading score and intraoperative outcomes. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the discriminatory power of this scoring system. Results: Three preoperative factors (spleen weight, esophagogastric varices, and INR) had a significant effect on operative time, bleeding, and conversion to open surgery. We created a difficulty grading score with three levels of difficulty: low (≤ 4 points), medium (5–6 points), and high (≥ 7 points), based on the three preoperative parameters. The correlation was highly significant (P < 0.01) according to Spearman's correlation. The area under the ROC curve was 0.695 (95% CI 0.630–0.755). The external validation showed significant correlations with the present model, with an AUC of 0.725 (95% CI 0.580–0.842). The comparison between our difficulty score and the previous grading system in the 272-patient cohort presented a significant difference in the AUC (0.701, 95% CI 0.643–0.755 vs. 0.644, 95% CI 0.584–0.701, P = 0.0452). Conclusion: The present difficulty scoring system, based on preoperative factors, has good performance in predicting the risk of intraoperative complications of LS and could be helpful for enabling appropriate case selection with respect to the current experience of a surgeon. Biomarkers for early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are needed in chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, a leading cause of HCC. We evaluated whether measurement of serum pentraxin 3 (PTX3) could improve diagnosis of HCC in chronic HBV infection. Data from patients with HBV-related chronic hepatitis (n = 159), cirrhosis (n = 99) and HCC (n = 107), and healthy controls (n = 151) were analyzed. Serum PTX3 concentration was measured by immunoassay. Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was applied to assess diagnostic accuracy. PTX3 levels were significantly higher in HBV patients than in healthy controls (P < 0.001) and in HCC than in chronic hepatitis (P < 0.001) or cirrhosis patients (P < 0.001). PTX3 was an independent risk factor of HCC [odds ratio (OR) 1.617, P < 0.001] and could distinguish HCC in chronic HBV infection [cutoff 9.231 ng/mL, AUC 0.929 with 95% confidence interval (CI) of 0.898–0.953], including α-fetoprotein (AFP) negative [cutoff 8.985 ng/mL, AUC (95%CI) 0.947 (0.908–0.973)] and early-stage HCC [cutoff 9.359 ng/mL, AUC (95%CI) 0.920 (0.885–0.947)]. Combination of PTX3 with AFP improved the discrimination of early HCC from chronic HBV infection [AUC (95%CI) 0.948 (0.918–0.970)]. Background: Magnetic compression anastomosis (MCA) is a revolutionary minimally invasive method to perform choledochocholedochostomy in patients with benign biliary stricture (BBS). We conducted MCA for the treatment of severe BBS that could not be treated by conventional methods.Patients and Methods: Patients with BBSs that could not be treated using conventional treatments were included. All patients underwent percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) before MCA, and underwent cholangiography via simultaneous PTBD and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). The MCA device consisted of a parent and a daughter magnet. The daughter magnet was delivered via the PTBD route to the proximal end of the obstruction, and the parent magnet was delivered via ERCP to the distal end of the obstruction. After recanalization, the MCA device was removed, and biliary stenting (or PTBD) was performed for at least 6 months.Results: Of the 9 patients (age 49 ± 12.9 years), 6 had undergone orthotopic liver transplantation. MCA was successful in all 9 patients. The stricture length was 3 ± 1.7 mm, and recanalization occurred after 16.3 ± 13.2 days. Multiple plastic stents (4 patients), fully covered self-expandable metallic stents (4 patients), or PTBD (1 patient) was used after recanalization. Two mild adverse events occurred (cholangitis, 1 patient; biliary bleeding, 1 patient), but were resolved with conservative treatment. Stents were retrieved after > 6 months, and no stenosis occurred during 2-66 months of stent-free follow-up.Conclusion: The MCA technique is a revolutionary method for choledochocholedochostomy in patients with severe BBS unresponsive to conventional procedures. Magnetic compression anastomosis (MCA) has been appreciated as an innovative alternative to manual suturing in vascular reconstruction. However, magnetic devices have limitations in their applications. The present study aimed to introduce a newly developed magnetic device for end-to-end vascular anastomosis. Twenty male New Zealand rabbits were randomly assigned to receive end-to-end postcaval vein anastomosis using either a newly designed MCA device (Group MCA) or continuous-interrupted suturing (Group CIS). The anastomotic patency was evaluated by Doppler or venography immediately, 1 week, and 12 weeks after surgery. Anastomotic quality was evaluated gross and microscopic histological study 12 weeks after surgery. The procedure was successfully performed and all animals survived until sacrifice. The duration of surgery and anastomosis time in Group MCA were significantly shorter compared to Group CIS (all p < 0.001), and the incidence of anastomotic patency and postoperative morbidity were comparable between the two groups (all p > 0.05). Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that anastomotic intima from Group MCA was much smoother with more regularly arranged endothelial cells than from compared to the Group CIS. Printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHEs) are promising candidates for recuperators in supercritical CO2 Brayton cycles. A comparative study is given in this paper on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of PCHEs with sinusoidal and zigzag channels. With mass flow rates of 0.6–1.8 kg/h and the bend angles of 15°–30°, the thermal-hydraulic performance of the PCHEs is discussed. Results show that the sinusoidal channel is superior to the zigzag channel in its comprehensive performance. Larger bend angles result in greater reductions in pressure drop if sinusoidal channels are used instead of zigzag channels and a maximum of 48.4% reduction can be obtained in the considered working conditions. Meanwhile, the inlet sections should be carefully optimized since these sections account for up to 31% and 17% of the total pressure drop in the sinusoidal and zigzag channels, respectively. The corner shape of the zigzag channel can be specially designed to further reduce the pressure drop. The nonuniform density and heat flux distributions in both channels are found to be related to the periodic changes of flow directions and the centrifugal forces should not be ignored when optimizing the sinusoidal and zigzag channels. Background: Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is an emerging tissue ablation technique, which is safe for sites where thermal-basis techniques are not suitable. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of magnetic anchoring electrode (MAE)-assisted IRE for normal gastric tissue ablation in a rabbit model.Methods: IRE (500 V, 100 μs, 99 pulses, 1 Hz) of the gastric wall was performed in 24 adult New Zealand rabbits with a novel catheter-mounted MAE with fluoroscopy and a surgical approach. Procedure time, procedure-related bleeding, perforation, and other complications were recorded. Animals were sacrificed at 30 min, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days post-IRE. The stomach was removed en bloc, and the diameter of each lesion was measured. Histopathological analyses by Hematoxylin-Eosin (H&E), masson trichrome, alpha-smooth muscle action (α-SMA), and terminal-deoxynucleotidyl transferase mediated nick end labeling (TUNEL) were performed.Results: Gastric tissue ablation with MAE-assisted IRE was successfully performed without any interruption. No perforation or bleeding was observed during IRE or throughout the follow-up period. A demarcated hemorrhage was found in the ablated area upon gross examination. H&E staining showed complete cell death with inflammatory infiltration, edema, and hemorrhaging. TUNEL presented diffuse positive cells in the ablated area. The tissue scaffold was well preserved without damage as indicated by Masson trichrome staining. Ulceration was observed starting from 3 days post-IRE. The mucosal layer was gradually recovered and regenerated within 14-28 days. No other complication was observed post-IRE.Conclusions: MAE-assisted IRE is safe and effective for normal gastric tissue ablation and the gastric wall recovered in 14-28 days post-IRE. Objective: We sought to evaluate the utilization of lymphadenectomy (LND) and the incidence of lymph node metastasis (LNM) among different morphologic types of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Methods: Clinical data of patients undergoing curative-intent resection for ICC between 1990 and 2017 were collected and analyzed. The preoperative nodal status was evaluated by imaging studies, and the morphologic and lymph node (LN) status was collected on final pathology report. Results: Overall, 1032 patients had a mass-forming (MF) or intraductal growth (IG) ICC subtype, whereas 150 patients had a periductal infiltrating (PI) or MF + PI subtype. Among the 924 patients with MF/IG ICC subtype who had nodal assessment on preoperative imaging, 747 (80.8%) were node-negative, whereas 177 (19.2%) patients were suspicious for metastatic nodal disease. On final pathological analysis, 71 of 282 (25.2%) patients who had preoperative node-negative disease ultimately had LNM. In contrast, 79 of 135 (58.5%) patients with preoperative suspicious/metastatic LNs had pathologically confirmed LNM (odds ratio [OR] 4.2, p < 0.001). Among the 129 patients with PI/MF + PI ICC subtype and preoperative nodal information, 72 (55.8%) were node-negative on preoperative imaging. In contrast, 57 (44.2%) patients had suspicious/metastatic LNs. On final pathologic examination, 45.3% (n = 24) of patients believed to be node-negative on preoperative imaging had LNM; 68.0% (n = 34) of patients who had suspicious/positive nodal disease on imaging ultimately had LNM (OR 2.6, p = 0.009). Conclusion: Given the low accuracy of preoperative imaging evaluation of nodal status, routine LND should be performed at the time of resection for both MF/IG and PI/MF + PI ICC subtypes. Abstract: Recent studies have indicated that the Adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway is closely involved in liver fibrosis and other fibrotic diseases. However, whether targeting the AMPK pathway can rescue liver fibrosis and its complications, such as portal hypertension, is unknown. This study aimed to explore the therapeutic value of AICAR (5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxyamide ribonucleoside), an agonist of the AMPK pathway, on liver fibrosis and portal hypertension in bile duct ligation (BDL) rats. In vitro experiments showed that the gene expression levels of TGF-b, a-SMA, and collagen 1 in primary rat hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) were significantly decreased after AICAR treatment. The p-eNOS expression and nitric oxide (NO) production were increased by AICAR administration in sinusoidal endothelial cells (SECs). For in vivo animal studies, AICAR acutely decreased portal pressure in the BDL and CCL4 fibrotic rats, but not in the partial portal vein ligation (PVL) rats, without changes in systemic hemodynamics. It was also observed by using intravital fluorescence microscopy that AICAR led to sinusoidal vasodilation in situ experiment. We propose that the relevant mechanisms may be related to the activation of the AMPK/NO pathway in SECs and that this activation promoted NO production in the liver, thereby promoting hepatic sinusoid microcirculation and decreased intrahepatic resistance. The results were verified using the NO inhibitor L-NAME. Chronic AICAR treatment also showed profound beneficial effects on the BDL model rats. The hemodynamic condition was greatly improved, but the positive effect could be partially blocked by L-NAME. TSO-to-TSO linearizability is a variant of linearizability for concurrent libraries on the total store order (TSO) memory model. It is proved in this paper that TSO-to-TSO linearizability for a bounded number of processes is undecidable. We first show that the trace inclusion problem of a classic-lossy single-channel system, which is known undecidable, can be reduced to the history inclusion problem of specific libraries on the TSO memory model. Based on the equivalence between history inclusion and extended history inclusion for these libraries, we then prove that the extended history inclusion problem of libraries is undecidable on the TSO memory model. By means of extended history inclusion as an equivalent characterization of TSO-to-TSO linearizability, we finally prove that TSO-to-TSO linearizability is undecidable for a bounded number of processes. Junction temperature in the electronic packaging process is one of the critical factors affecting the service life of electronic devices. A micro-channel heat sink is a common heat dissipating device used to reduce the thermal resistance between components and substrate. In order to maximize the heat dissipation while minimizing the pressure drop, this paper adopts a topology optimization method. A material interpolation method based on variable density principle is used together with a moving asymptote algorithm for the optimization. The physics is governed by the heat and mass transfer, coupled with the momentum conservation in the fluid. Four parameters are varied in order to investigate their influence on the optimization process. A three-dimensional geometry has been constructed to study the flow field and the results are compared to a reference case to verify the temperature uniformity and thermal performance of the model. A novel preparation method of triazine-based graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and its application in the cataluminescence (CTL) sensing system is proposed in the present work. Netty triazine-based g-C3N4 were synthesized via a solid and mild strategy, utilizing the copolymerization interaction between guanidine hydrochloride and trimesic acid. The chemical structure, morphology, optical property, and cataluminescence (CTL) sensing characteristics were investigated in detail. Control experiments were carried out to investigate the CTL sensing characteristics of g-C3N4 towards formic acid, which showed the prepared triazine-based g-C3N4 possessed a superior catalytic activity than that of tri-s-triazine. Meanwhile, the prepared g-C3N4 also showed commendable catalytic oxidization selectivity towards formic acid. In view of the advantageous features of low cost, environment friendliness, and long-term stability, triazine-based g-C3N4 was chosen as a highly efficient material to design a CTL sensor for formic acid.Netty triazine-based g-C3N4 were synthesized via a novel solid and mild strategy, utilizing the copolymerization interaction between guanidine hydrochloride and trimesic acid. Material morphology-dependent cataluminescence (CTL) sensing characteristic and application are presented in this work. Hierarchical hollow microspheres CeO2 were synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of glucose and N, N-dimethyl-formamide (Glu-DMF). SEM, XRD, TEM, HRTEM and BET were used to characterize the prepared CeO2 materials. Compared with CeO2 cubics (CeO2 Cubs), CeO2 hierarchical hollow microspheres (CeO2 HMs) show an enhanced CTL response to carbon disulfide. The response and recovery times of CeO2 HMs-based CTL sensor towards carbon disulfide are about 8 s and 20 s, respectively. CeO2 HMs exhibits a linear CTL response to carbon disulfide in the concentration range of 0.50~10 μg•mL-1 with an excellent sensitivity and selectivity. These results suggest that CeO2 HMs will be a highly promising CTL sensing material for the detection and monitoring carbon disulfide.CeO2 hierarchical hollow microspheres (CeO2 HMs) were synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of glucose and N, N-dimethyl-formamide (Glu-DMF). Meanwhile, the prepared CeO2 HMs shows commendable CTL response towards carbon disulfide.
