Data exploration—the problem of extracting knowledge from database even if we do not know exactly what we are looking for —is important for data discovery and analysis. However, precisely specifying SQL queries is not always practical, such as "finding and ranking off-road cars based on a combination of Price, Make, Model, Age, Mileage, etc"—not only due to the query complexity (e.g.,the queries may have many if-then-else, and, or and not logic), but also because the user typically does not have the knowledge of all data instances (and their variants). We propose DExPlorer, a system for interactive data exploration. From the user perspective, we propose a simple and user-friendly interface, which allows to: (1) confirm whether a tuple is desired or not, and (2) decide whether a tuple is more preferred than another. Behind the scenes, we jointly use multiple ML models to learn from the above two types of user feedback. Moreover, in order to effectively involve human-in-the-loop, we need to select a set of tuples for each user interaction so as to solicit feedback. Therefore, we devise question selection algorithms, which consider not only the estimated benefit of each tuple, but also the possible partial orders between any two suggested tuples. Data visualization is crucial in today's data-driven business world, which has been widely used for helping decision making that is closely related to major revenues of many industrial companies. However, due to the high demand of data processing w.r.t. the volume, velocity, and veracity of data, there is an emerging need for database experts to help for efficient and effective data visualization. In response to this demand, this article surveys techniques that make data visualization more efficient and effective. (1) Visualization specifications define how the users can specify their requirements for generating visualizations. (2) Efficient approaches for data visualization process the data and a given visualization specification, which then produce visualizations with the primary target to be efficient and scalable at an interactive speed. Knowledge graphs are widely applied in many applications. Automatically solving mathematical exercises is also an interesting task which can be enhanced by knowledge reasoning. In this paper, we design MathGraph, a knowledge graph aiming to solve high school mathematical exercises. Since it requires fine-grained mathematical derivation and calculation of different mathematical objects, we design a crowdsourcing-based method to help build MathGraph. MathGraph supports massive kinds of mathematical objects, operations and constraints which may be involved in exercises. Furthermore, we propose an algorithm to align a semantically parsed exercise to MathGraph and figure out the answer automatically. ZNF580 is a novel C2H2 zinc-finger nuclear transcription factor with potential involvement in the transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) signal transduction pathway. Emerging evidence suggests that TGF-β1 can regulate endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) expression in endothelial cells. This study aimed to determine if ZNF580 mediated eNOS expression and participated in endothelial cell migration and proliferation via the TGF-β1/Smad2/ZNF580/eNOS signaling pathway. Overexpression/downexpression of ZNF580 in EAhy926 cells leads to the enhancement/decrease of eNOS expression. TGF-β1 downregulated both ZNF580 and eNOS at the mRNA and protein levels in concentration- and time-dependent manners. ZNF580 and eNOS downregulation induced by TGF-β1 was blocked by the specific TGF-β1 type I receptor ALK5 inhibitor, SB431542. Overexpression of ZNF580 attenuated TGF-β1-induced inhibition of EAhy926 cell growth and mobility, and vice versa. These results suggest that ZNF580 mediates eNOS expression and endothelial cell migration/proliferation via the TGF-β1/ALK5/Smad2 pathway, and thus plays a crucial role in vascular endothelial cells.
