Introduction: Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Antiplatelet therapies are recommended to reduce the risk of recurrent stroke in patients with ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack (IS/TIA). This study evaluated outpatient antiplatelet treatment patterns and outcomes for secondary stroke prevention (SSP) among UK adults without atrial fibrillation who were hospitalized for IS/TIA. Methods: This retrospective observational study utilized data from the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink linked with Hospital Episode Statistics data (01/01/2011–30/06/2019). Treatment patterns included type and duration of treatments. Treatment outcomes included IS, myocardial infarction, major bleeding, and cardiovascular-related and all-cause mortality. Descriptive statistics were reported. Results: Of 9270 patients, 13.9% (1292) might not receive antithrombotic therapy within 90 days of hospital discharge. Of 7978 patients who received antiplatelet therapies, most used clopidogrel (74.8%) or aspirin (16.7%) single antiplatelet therapy and clopidogrel + aspirin dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT, 5.9%). At 1-year post-hospitalization, 36.9, 43.3, and 35.1% of those receiving these treatments discontinued them, respectively, and of the patients initiating DAPT, 62.3% switched to single antiplatelet therapy. At 1-year post-discharge, the incidence rate (per 100 person-years) of IS, myocardial infarction, major bleeding, cardiovascular-related mortality, and all-cause mortality among the treated were 6.5, 0.7, 4.1, 5.0, and 7.3, respectively, and among the untreated were 14.9, 0.7, 8.6, 28.1, and 39.8, respectively. Conclusions: In the United Kingdom, 13.9% of patients hospitalized for stroke might not have any antiplatelet treatment to prevent secondary stroke; among the treated, clopidogrel, aspirin, and DAPT were commonly used. These study findings suggest that improved anti-thrombotic therapies for long-term SSP treatment are needed, which may lead to higher treatment and persistence rates and, therefore, improved outcomes in this population. Purpose: In the clinical management of patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), the early identification of poor and good responders after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (N-CRT) is essential. Therefore, we developed and validated predictive models including MRI findings from the structured report template, clinical and radiomics parameters to differentiate between poor and good responders in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Methods: Preoperative multiparametric MRI from 183 patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (122 in the training cohort, 61 in the validation cohort) was included in this retrospective study. After preprocessing, radiomic features were extracted and two methods of feature selection was applied to reduce the number of radiomics features. Logistic regression (LR) and random forest (RF) machine learning classifiers were trained to identify good responders from poor responders. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to incorporate the radiomic signature and clinical risk factors into a nomogram. Classifier performance was evaluated using the area under the curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV). Results: For the differentiation of poor and good responders, the radiomics model with an LR classifier achieved AUCs of 0.869 and 0.842 for the training and validation cohorts, respectively. The nomogram showed the highest reproducibility and prognostic ability in the training and validation cohorts, with AUCs of 0.923 (95% confidence interval, 0.872–0.975) and 0.898 (0.819–0.978), respectively. Additionally, the nomogram achieved significant risk stratification of patients in respect to progression free survival (PFS). Vacuum counter-pressure casting (VCPC) process is an effective forming process of producing components with complex thin-walled characteristics. In this study, a surrogate-based optimization method with five process parameters is used to reduce the shrinkage porosity defect during the VCPC process of a complicated thin-walled aluminum alloy casing. The prediction of the shrinkage porosity defect is implemented by using the numerical simulation of the VCPC process. In general, performing the optimization directly based on the casting simulation may not be practical due to the computational and time constraints. To mitigate this problem, the response surface model (RSM) constructed via computer experiments is employed to accurately approximate the functional relationship between the process parameters and the response variable which is defined as the area of defects in the defect image generated from the casting simulation. To measure the area of defects in the image, a histogram-based threshold segmentation approach is proposed to recognize and quantify the defects from the image. The optimization problem is subsequently formulated using a desirability function-based optimization method, and the objective function is estimated using the built RSMs. The final results indicate that a set of optimal process parameters with minimum defects can be obtained. We report a facile and effective aerosol-spray strategy toward high-performance anodes for lithium-ion batteries by incorporating mesoporous SnO2 spheres of high-capacity materials with surface-modified carbon nanotubes (MCNTs). SnO2 nanocrystals are self-assembled into mesoporous spheres, and MCNTs with abundant carboxylic groups serve as a conductive scaffold. Driven by the strong interaction between the surface of metal oxide and the carboxylic groups on CNTs, a robust nanocomposite architecture is in situ formed. Such nanocomposite architecture possesses several advantages as an anode for lithium-ion batteries. First, mesoporous SnO2 spheres inherit the advantageous features of conventional nanoparticles, such as the capability to accommodate volume expansion and reduce Li+ diffusion distance. Second, the robust interface between nanocrystals in the SnO2 spheres provides the high structural stability that would prolong the life span of the electrode. Third, MCNTs that strongly bind to SnO2 spheres serve as a three-dimensional network, offering both improved electronic transport and mechanical strength of the electrode. Therefore, as-prepared nanocomposite delivers high capacity of 963 mAh g−1 at 0.1 C and 701 mAh g−1 at 5 C, respectively. Leaves are vital plant organs, and a high level of variation in leaf shape, including the leaf lobes, is present in Brassica rapa. Based on a previously-constructed linkage map, QTL analysis of the leaf lobes was performed using the scores from an F population during the spring of 2010, and scores from an F family in the autumn of 2010, respectively. A total of nine QTLs were found to affect leaf lobes. Among these, a major QTL, lob 10.1, was mapped to the bottom of linkage group A10. To develop near iso-genic lines (NILs) for the identified major QTL, an F plant without leaf lobes that was homozygous in the targeted region for marker alleles from the male parent (08A061), was backcrossed to 09A001, the recurrent parent with leaf lobes. Two InDel marker loci, BrID10909 and BrID10233, which are closely linked to the major QTL peak position, and 166 SSR and InDel markers from non-targeted chromosomal regions, were used for foreground and background selection, respectively. Three sets of NILs were developed through four cycles of backcrossing followed by two cycles of self-pollination. Compared to 09A001, the recurrent parent, all the NILs showed the absence of leaf lobes and had no significant differences in other agriculturally important traits. This paper describes the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) stabilized with intelligent poly( N, N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA). First, the dithioester-terminated PDMAEMA was prepared by the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer technique. Then, the dithioester-terminated PDMAEMA was reduced to a thiol-terminated polymer PDMAEMA-SH. PDMAEMA coated GNPs (Au@PDMAEMA NPs) were synthesized in situ from HAuCl aqueous solution by using NaBH as a reductant and thiolated PDMAEMA as a stabilizer through Au-S bond. The optical and physical properties of GNPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction as well as thermogravimetric analysis. The size and shape of GNPs could be controlled by tuning both the [PDMAEMA]:[HAuCl] molar ratio and the solution pH. Species composition and productivity are influenced by water and N availability in semi-arid grasslands. To assess the effects of increased N deposition and water supply on plant species composition and productivity, two field experiments with four N addition treatments, and three N and water combination treatments were conducted in alpine grassland in the mid Tianshan mountains, northwest China. When considering N addition alone, aboveground biomass (AGB) of forbs (F) responded less to N addition than AGB of grasses (G). G increased as an effect of N combined with water addition but F did not show such an effect, reflecting a stronger response of grasses to the interaction of water availability and N than forbs. Under all treatments, N allocation to the aboveground tissue did not change for either forbs or grasses. N deposition and water addition did not alter species richness in the present study. These results suggest that N addition generally promoted AGB but had little effect on species richness in wet years. Snowfall in winter combined with rainfall in the early growing season likely plays a critical role in regulating plant growth of the subsequent year in the alpine grassland. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

China is experiencing intense air pollution caused in large part by anthropogenic emissions of reactive nitrogen. These emissions result in the deposition of atmospheric nitrogen (N) in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, with implications for human and ecosystem health, greenhouse gas balances and biological diversity. However, information on the magnitude and environmental impact of N deposition in China is limited. Here we use nationwide data sets on bulk N deposition, plant foliar N and crop N uptake (from long-term unfertilized soils) to evaluate N deposition dynamics and their effect on ecosystems across China between 1980 and 2010. We find that the average annual bulk deposition of N increased by approximately 8 kilograms of nitrogen per hectare (P < 0.001) between the 1980s (13.2 kilograms of nitrogen per hectare) and the 2000s (21.1 kilograms of nitrogen per hectare). Nitrogen deposition rates in the industrialized and agriculturally intensified regions of China are as high as the peak levels of deposition in northwestern Europe in the 1980s, before the introduction of mitigation measures. Nitrogen from ammonium (NH4+) is the dominant form of N in bulk deposition, but the rate of increase is largest for deposition of N from nitrate (NO3−), in agreement with decreased ratios of NH3 to NOx emissions since 1980. We also find that the impact of N deposition on Chinese ecosystems includes significantly increased plant foliar N concentrations in natural and semi-natural (that is, non-agricultural) ecosystems and increased crop N uptake from long-term-unfertilized croplands. An amphiphilic biodegradable three-arm star-shaped diblock copolymer containing poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and poly( N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) (TEA(PCL- b-PVP)) has been successfully synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone (ε-CL), RAFT polymerization of N-vinylpyrrolidone and a coupling reaction of PCL with carboxyl-terminated PVP (PVP-COOH). In aqueous media, the star-shaped copolymer self-assembled into spherical micelles with diameters of near 106 nm. The critical micelle concentration of TEA(PCL- b-PVP) copolymer was determined to be 5.96 × 10mg/mL. Folic acid was then used as a model drug to incorporate into TEA(PCL- b-PVP) micelles, the drug loading content and encapsulation efficiency is 16.36 and 49.08 %, respectively. In vitro release experiments of the drug-loaded micelles exhibited sustained release behavior and it was affected by the pH of release media. To evaluate the impact of N placement depth and no-till (NT) practice on the emissions of NO, N2O, CH4 and CO2 from soils, we conducted two N placement experiments in a long-term tillage experiment site in northeastern Colorado in 2004. Trace gas flux measurements were made 2–3 times per week, in zero-N fertilizer plots that were cropped continuously to corn ( Zea mays L.) under conventional-till (CT) and NT. Three N placement depths, replicated four times (5, 10 and 15 cm in Exp. 1 and 0, 5 and 10 cm in Exp. 2, respectively) were used. Liquid urea–ammonium nitrate (UAN, 224 kg N ha−1) was injected to the desired depth in the CT- or NT-soils in each experiment. Mean flux rates of NO, N2O, CH4 and CO2 ranged from 3.9 to 5.2 μg N m−2 h−1, 60.5 to 92.4 μg N m−2 h−1, −0.8 to 0.5 μg C m−2 h−1, and 42.1 to 81.7 mg C m−2 h−1 in both experiments, respectively. Deep N placement (10 and 15 cm) resulted in lower NO and N2O emissions compared with shallow N placement (0 and 5 cm) while CH4 and CO2 emissions were not affected by N placement in either experiment. Compared with N placement at 5 cm, for instance, averaged N2O emissions from N placement at 10 cm were reduced by more than 50% in both experiments. Generally, NT decreased NO emission and CH4 oxidation but increased N2O emissions compared with CT irrespective of N placement depths. Total net global warming potential (GWP) for N2O, CH4 and CO2 was reduced by deep N placement only in Exp. 1 but was increased by NT in both experiments. For numerical investigation of the quasi-continuous laser beam welding (Q-CLBW) process, the existing research usually considered a constant welding heat input, which to some degree loses accuracy in representing the welding dynamics. This paper developed a validated CFD model for the simulation of Q-CLBW of Ti6Al4V alloy based on a near-reality heat source model. The coupled transient temperature, velocity, and phase fields were solved under a high-frequency pulsed laser power (HF-PLP) at 5000 Hz as well as a constant laser power (CLP) which has been conventionally employed. Comparative analysis was carried out with respect to keyhole stability, melt flow pattern, and weld pool dimensions resulting from different heat sources and different heat input values with laser peak power of 2800 ~ 3800 W and welding velocity of 0.02 ~ 0.04 m/s. Results indicate that the time-dependent laser input yields less stabilized dynamics featured with middle-depth keyhole collapse, chaotic melt flow, and periodic vapor eruption, and such characteristics are difficult to be observed with CLP. The maximum temperature, pressure, and velocity magnitude of molten metal present remarkable oscillations in relation to welding time. With decreasing heat input in HF-PLP welding cases, the keyhole geometry tends to collapse in the tip segment while the melt flow becomes regular. Furthermore, the employment of the HF-PLP condition also enhances the accuracy in predicting the cross-sectional seam profile in terms of width and depth. A multi-phase and multi-physics coupling model was proposed and experimentally verified. The simulation of keyhole and weld pool dynamics was conducted during the pulsed laser beam welding (PLBW) of Ti6Al4V titanium alloy. Different pulse frequencies were employed in numerical cases to investigate the influences on thermal transfer and fluid flow behavior and the resultant weld pool dimensions. The calculation results reveal that the welding dynamics go through three stages, that is, keyhole formation/rebuilding, keyhole shrinking, and keyhole collapsing, within a typical laser pulse period. Keyhole collapsing always induces porosities in the lower weld pool, which can be non-contact with a rising-up tendency or captured by the liquid-solid interface unilaterally or multilaterally. Compensation flows are commonly observed near the concaves at keyhole shrinking stage, and then evolve to circulations between porosity and collapsed keyhole. Besides, the keyhole and weld pool show an oscillatory growth on depth values with the oscillation amplitude of keyhole being much higher. A reduced laser pulse frequency can increase the initial weld pool dimensions, obviously, while having little impact on the final welding penetration. The configuration of pulse frequency should be critical to a desirable welding formation in terms of continuity and homogeneity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To explore whether cumulative serum urate (cumSU) is correlated with diabetes type II mellitus incidence. Methods: In this study, we recruited individuals participating in all Kailuan health examinations from 2006 to 2013 without stroke, cancer, gestation, myocardial infarction, and diabetes type II diagnosis in the first three examinations. CumSU was calculated by multiplying the average serum urate concentration and the time between the two examinations (umol/L × year). CumSU levels were categorized into five groups: Q1–Q5. The effect of cumSU on diabetes type II incidence was estimated by logistic regression. Results: A total of 36,277 individuals (27,077 men and 9200 women) participated in the final analysis. The multivariate logistic regression model showed the odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) of diabetes type II from Q1 to Q5 were 1.00 (reference), 1.25 (1.00 to 1.56), 1.43 (1.15 to 1.79), 1.49 (1.18 to 1.87), and 1.80 (1.40 to 2.32), respectively. Multivariable odds ratios per 1-standard deviation increase in cumSU were 1.26 (1.17 to 1.37) in all populations, 1.20 (1.10 to 1.32) for men, and 1.52 (1.27 to 1.81) for women, respectively. Conclusions: CumSU is a significant risk factor for diabetes type II. Individuals with higher cumSU, especially women, are at a higher risk of diabetes type II independent of other known risk factors. A novel bidirectional quantum teleportation schema with GHZ states and EPR pairs via entanglement swapping is proposed. Two GHZ states and two pure EPR pairs build the quantum physical system. Within this quantum system, two entangled GHZ states serve for the quantum channel, and via the entanglement swapping the new entanglements are generated from the involved qbuits after the measurements are performed on both sides. CNOT operation, single qubit measurement and the appropriate unitary transformation are executed on each side, the pure EPR states are simultaneously teleported to each other. Objectives: Automatic bone lesions detection and classifications present a critical challenge and are essential to support radiologists in making an accurate diagnosis of bone lesions. In this paper, we aimed to develop a novel deep learning model called You Only Look Once (YOLO) to handle detecting and classifying bone lesions on full-field radiographs with limited manual intervention. Methods: In this retrospective study, we used 1085 bone tumor radiographs and 345 normal bone radiographs from two centers between January 2009 and December 2020 to train and test our YOLO deep learning (DL) model. The trained model detected bone lesions and then classified these radiographs into normal, benign, intermediate, or malignant types. The intersection over union (IoU) was used to assess the model's performance in the detection task. Confusion matrices and Cohen's kappa scores were used for evaluating classification performance. Two radiologists compared diagnostic performance with the trained model using the external validation set. Results: In the detection task, the model achieved accuracies of 86.36% and 85.37% in the internal and external validation sets, respectively. In the DL model, radiologist 1 and radiologist 2 achieved Cohen's kappa scores of 0.8187, 0.7927, and 0.9077 for four-way classification in the external validation set, respectively. The YOLO DL model illustrated a significantly higher accuracy for intermediate bone tumor classification than radiologist 1 (95.73% vs 88.08%, p = 0.004). Conclusions: The developed YOLO DL model could be used to assist radiologists at all stages of bone lesion detection and classification in full-field bone radiographs. By researching the distance between blasthole and interface of soft-hard rock strata, as well as the time of delay detonation, blasting effect of the rock mass will be more controllable. Firstly, validity of numerical method was authenticated from three angles: blasting coupled stress field, ratio of crushing zone radius to blasthole radius, and crack network state. Under the condition of soft-hard rock strata, numerical model of double-hole blasting was established by using PFC2D. Then delay blasting experiments were carried out under different relative positions of blasthole and interface. Ultimately, results were analyzed from three perspectives: crack network, crack quantity and rock fragment. Results show that: (1) When detonated in hard rock, if between interface and blasthole distance is greater than twice crushing zone radius, the closer blasthole is to the interface, the more obvious the "hook" phenomenon between the two blastholes is. With increasing delayed initiation time, "hook" phenomenon will weaken or even disappear. (2) Based on the crack information initiated in hard rock, the law of crack number varying with thickness of hard rock and delay time is obtained. (3) For initiation in hard rock, crack extension range is large, but less fragments are formed. The law is opposite to that initiation in structural plane and soft rock. Based on the digital elevation data, snow depth and snow cover remote sensing data, this paper divides six snow evolution areas and geographical partitions, extracts the geographical partitions of each evolution area and obtains the geographical characteristics of the evolution area for analysis. The results show that: (1) From 2003 to 2017, the average snow area decreased at a rate of − 0.004, and the average snow depth increased at a rate of 0.03. (2) The snow in the middle altitude hill with shady gentle slope area is the most obvious in the seasonal evolution, and the percentage of this region in the seasonal snow evolution area is 5.46%, the snow depth in the middle altitude hill with sunny and gentle slopes area increased and decreased significantly in the past 15 years, and the percentage of this region in the SD significant changes evolution area was 6.32%. The snow in the low relief middle altitude mountain with shady and moderate slope area not only shows obvious seasonal evolution, but also increases and decreases significantly in snow depth. And the percentage of this region in the seasonal snow significant evolution area is 5.82%. (3) The geographical partitions with the largest area in all evolution areas is the middle altitude hill with sunny and gentle slopes area (4.75%). (4) The geographical partition with the largest variation of snow depth in Tianshan region is the low relief middle altitude mountain with shady and moderate slope area (12.02 cm). (5) The snow accumulation and melting are obvious in the range of 1000–3500 m above altitude, different geomorphology types lead to obvious differences in snow characteristics. The snow melting is most obvious in the gentle slope area of the low topographic relief geomorphology types, and the snow accumulation is most obvious in the steep slope area of the middle relief geomorphology types. The existence of various types of damage, small cracks, some large voids and the size of the sample in the rock will make the experimental results show great discreteness. In this paper, based on the results of laboratory experiments, a numerical model of large flawed rock samples is established by using particle flow software PFC2D, and the mechanical response of rocks with different length-diameter ratios and different flaw positions in uniaxial compression experiments is discussed. The results show that the specimen size has a significant effect on the crack characteristics, mechanical characteristics and energy characteristics of rock mass. From the perspective of energy and crack characteristics, the total number of cracks after the failure of the defective rock sample is slightly lower than that of the intact rock sample, resulting in a slightly lower peak strain energy during the rock failure process. From the mechanical properties of rock samples, the Poisson's ratio of intact rock samples is slightly smaller than that of defective rock samples. The strength of the defective sample is weakened relative to the complete rock sample, and the relationship formula between the weakening range and the aspect ratio is obtained through analysis. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), density functional theory (DFT), quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) and reduced density gradient (RDG) were used to study the interactions of dopamine hydrochloride (DH) with nicotinic acid (NAC) in aqueous solution. The results revealed that there existed three weak interactions in the DH–NAC system, C–H···π, π···π stacking and hydrogen bonds. These interactions showed different effects on the DH electrooxidation and its chemical environment. Moreover, the CV and 1H NMR results indicated that C–H···π interaction between the H atoms on the benzene ring of DH and the pyridine ring of NAC, and π···π stacking between the benzene ring of DH and the pyridine ring of NAC are the main interactions in the system. Aims: Litter decomposition is a crucial component of nutrient recycling. Short-term nitrogen (N) deposition has been shown to influence litter decomposition in temperate steppe with significant variability due to differences in atmospheric N deposition, species identity, and experimental duration. Therefore, the effect of N addition, especially long-term, on litter decomposition in alpine grassland still needs further investigation. Methods: To address these knowledge gaps, we examined the influence of long-term N addition on litter decomposition, taking advantage of a field experiment with five N addition levels (0, 10, 30, 90, and 150 kg N ha−1 yr−1) with a meta-analysis, which has been running for 11 years in an alpine grassland, Northwest China. Results: Long-term N addition consistently decreased litter decomposition rates, and N negative effect became stronger with the increasing N addition rates. Reduced litter decomposition rates were related to lower soil enzymes activities. Litter decomposition rates were strongly correlated with litter quality, but weakly correlated with soil quality, but which suggested that litter quality and soil quality played important role in regulating litter decomposition. Furthermore, a regional meta-analysis revealed that N addition accelerated litter decomposition when all data were averaged. Although N addition indirectly increased litter decomposition, it had no direct effect on decomposition. However, the direction and degree of the direct effect of N on litter decomposition were regulated by N addition rate, experimental duration and form of N fertilizer. This study aims to know the seeking help behavior of individuals with SZ (Schizophrenia) in Hunan province of China. Individuals (age > 15) with schizophrenia were recruited in the study after a two-stage diagnosis procedure (including questionnaire screening and face-to-face SCID interview by psychiatrists) in Hunan province. A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate their help-seeking behavior. (1) Of the 367 participants, 68.9% (253/367) sought help; of those, 64.6% (n = 163) pursued professional psychiatric services and 30.8% (n = 78) pursued non-medical options (i.e., relatives, praying to Buddha) as the most common first choices. (2) Family history of mental disorders is significantly related to whether or not the individual with SZ seeks help, and the first choice of help is significantly related to education level. (P < 0.05). (3) Frequent reasons behind not seeking help include fear of stigmatization (72.9%), poor mental health literacy (64.5%), concerns over cost (50.6%), and limited access to medical services (47.0%). About one-third of the individuals do not seek help. Individuals with SZ tend to choose psychiatric hospitals and relatives as their first choice. Among the factors we investigated, family history of mental disorders is the most influential factor associated with help-seeking behavior. Individuals with more education tend to seek professional help first. Purpose: The objective of this study was to investigate whether computed tomography texture analysis can be used to differentiate papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) subtypes. Method: Sixty-two PRCC tumors were retrospectively evaluated, with 30 type 1 tumors and 32 type 2 tumors. Texture parameters quantified from three-phase contrast-enhanced CT images were compared with least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed, and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) was calculated for each parameter. The selected texture parameters of each phase were used to generate support vector machine (SVM) classifiers. Decision curve analysis (DCA) of the classification was performed. Results: The two texture parameters with the top two AUC values were – 333–7 Correlation (AUC = 0.772) and 45–7 Entropy (AUC = 0.753) in the corticomedullary phase, 333–4 Correlation (AUC = 0.832) and 45–7 Entropy (AUC = 0.841) in the nephrographic phase, and 135–7 Entropy (AUC = 0.858) and – 333–1 InformationMeasureCorr2 (AUC = 0.849) in the excretory phase. Entropy and Correlation have a high correlation with the two types of PRCC and are increased in type 2 PRCC. A model incorporating the texture parameters with the top two AUC values in each phase produced an AUC of 0.922 with an accuracy of 84% (sensitivity = 89% and specificity = 80%). The nephrographic-phase model and the model combining the texture parameters of the three phases can differentiate the two types with the largest net benefit. Conclusions: Computed tomography texture analysis can be used to distinguish type 2 PRCC from type 1 with high accuracy, which may be clinically important. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of segmentation-independent volume rendering (SI-VR) in visualising the root entry zone (REZ), and to explore the influence on the management of vascular compression syndromes (VCSs).Methods: Two hundred and twenty patients with VCSs were recruited in this prospective study from July 2015 to May 2019. SI-VR was reconstructed based on inverted 3D fast spin echo T2WI. They were assigned to the experimental group and control group randomly. Patients in the experimental group would accept extra evaluation based on SI-VR before microvascular decompression. Image quality and diagnostic accuracy between SI-VR and 3D fast spin echo T2WI in the experimental group were compared by Mann-Whitney U test and chi-square test, separately. Interobserver agreement was performed with intraclass correlation coefficient. Postsurgical outcomes and complications between two groups were compared by chi-square test.Results: SI-VR had a better interobserver agreement (0.82 vs 0.68) and diagnostic accuracy (95.5% vs 83.6%, p = 0.004) than that of 3D fast spin echo T2WI. Especially, significantly improved diagnostic accuracy was reached in detecting the multi-vascular branches compression (100% vs 15.4%, p < 0.001). There were fewer complications (7.1% vs 26.8%, p = 0.004) and less operation time (20.7 min vs 14.5 min, p = 0.007) but no significant difference of pain relief (p = 0.19) in the experimental group than in the control group.Conclusions: The SI-VR method is feasible for the precise demonstration of the anatomy structure along the REZ, with high reliability and reproducibility. While much research has been devoted to algorithm improvement of the machine learning model for multimedia applications, relatively little research has focused on the acquisition of massive multimedia datasets with strict data demands for model training. In this paper, we propose a Quality-of-Information (QoI) aware incentive mechanism in multimedia crowdsensing, with the objective of promoting the growth of an initial training model. We begin with a reverse auction incentive model to maximize social welfare while meeting the requirements in quality, timeliness, correlation, and coverage. Then, we discuss how to achieve the optimal social welfare in the presence of an NP-hard winner determination problem. Lastly, we design an effective incentive mechanism to solve the auction problem, which is shown to be truthful, individually rational and computationally efficient. Our evaluation study is carried out using a real multimedia dataset. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that the proposed incentive mechanism produces close-to-optimal social welfare noticeably, while accompanied by accelerating the growth of the machine learning model with a high-QoI dataset. Desert soils are a significant global sink for methane (CH4). However, it remains unclear how CH4 uptake in temperate deserts could respond to elevated precipitation, nitrogen (N) deposition and warming. An in situ field experiment was conducted to investigate these effects on CH4 uptake in the Gurbantunggut Desert, northwest China, from September 2014 to August 2017. This desert was a weak sink for CH4 (0.83 kg C ha−1 year−1) over this period, with the non-growing season (November–March) accounting for 30.5% of the annual CH4 uptake. Pulse CH4 uptake was found to result from increased water addition (by 30% or 60 mm year−1) and low N deposition (30 kg N ha−1 year−1) which enhanced annual CH4 uptake by 62.3 and 52.6%, respectively. However, no significant impact of high N deposition (60 kg N ha−1 year−1) was found. Warming in open topped chambers (OTCs) had a variable effect on CH4 uptake, which mainly depended on variation in soil moisture. The response in CH4 uptake to the interaction between water and N addition was less than that for the individual factors, except under conditions of warming. In addition, CH4 uptake was significantly positively correlated to water-filled pore space (WFPS), differing from observations in forest and grassland ecosystems. Structural equation modeling indicated that CH4 uptake was significantly enhanced by soil moisture and the underground biomass of ephemerals. Overall, the CH4 sink of this desert was significantly enhanced by increasing precipitation and low N deposition, rather than warming, which may become a feedback for future climate. Background: Over fertilization with nitrogen (N) is considered the main driver of agricultural soil acidification in China. However, the contribution of this driver compared to other causes of soil acidification on intensive croplands has seldom been quantified under field conditions.Methods: We measured the fate of major nutrients, and calculated the related H+ production, based on the difference between inputs and leaching losses of those nutrients for a wheat-maize rotation system on a moderate acid silty clay loam soil in a two-year field experiment.Results: Topsoil pH decreased 0.3 units in the plots with conventional (current farmer practice) high N fertilization after two years, with a proton production of 13.1 keq H+ ha−1 yr.−1. No apparent changes in topsoil pH were observed in the plots without N application, in spite of a proton production of 4.7 keq H+ ha−1 yr.−1. Crop uptake was the primary driver of H+ production, followed by N transformation processes and HCO3− leaching in both plots.Conclusions: Nitrogen fertilization had a relative small direct impact on soil acidification due to a very limited nitrate leaching, induced by large N losses to air by denitrification in this specific moderately acid soil, whereas elevated base cation uptake by crops induced by N fertilization indirectly had a relative large impact. Overuse of urea, low nitrogen (N) utilization, and large N losses are common in maize production in North China Plain (NCP). To solve these problems, we conducted two field experiments at Shangzhuang and Quzhou in NCP to test the ability of a newly developed urease inhibitor product Limus® to decrease NH3 volatilization from urea applied to maize. Grain yield, apparent N recovery efficiency (REN) and N balance when using urea applied with or without Limus were also measured over two maize growing seasons. Cumulative NH3 loss in the two weeks following urea application without Limus ranged from 9-108 kg N ha−1, while Limus addition significantly decreased NH3 loss by a mean of 84%. Urea with Limus did not significantly increase maize yields (P < 0.05) compared with urea alone. However, a significant 11-17% improvement in REN with Limus was observed at QZ. The use of urea-N plus Limus would permit a reduction in N applications of 55-60% compared to farmers' practice and/or further 20% N saving compared with optimized urea-N rate (150 kg N ha−1, based on N requirement by target yield of 7.5 t ha−1), and would achieve the same maize yields but with significantly decreased NH3 loss and increased N utilization.
