Rapid growth in the industry has released large quantities of contaminants, particularly metal discharges into the environment. Heavy metal poisoning in water bodies has become a major problem due to its toxicity to living organisms. In this study, we developed a 3-chloropropyl triethoxysilane incorporated mesoporous silica nanoparticle (SBA-15) based adsorbent utilizing the sol–gel process and Pluronic 123 (P123) as a structure-directing surfactant. Furthermore, the produced SBA-15 NPs were functionalized with bis(2-aminoethyl)amine (BDA) using the surface grafting approach. The physical and chemical properties of the prepared SBA-15@BDA NPs were determined using a variety of instruments, including small-angle X-ray diffraction (SAXS), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), N2 adsorption–desorption, thermogravimetric, particle size distribution, and zeta potential analysis. The MSN has a large surface area of up to 574 m2/g, a pore volume of 0.57 cm3/g, and a well-ordered mesoporous nanostructure with an average pore size of 3.6 nm. The produced SBA-15@BDA NPs were used to adsorb selectively to lead (Pd2+) ions from an aqueous solution. The adsorption study was performed under various conditions, including the influence of solution pH, adsorbent dose, adsorption kinetics, adsorption selectivity in the presence of competing metal ions, and reusability. The results of the kinetic study demonstrated that SBA-15@BDA NPs absorb selectively Pb2+ ions via chemisorption. The SBA-15@BDA NPs show Pb2+ ions with a maximum adsorption capacity of ~ 88% and an adsorbed quantity of approximately ~ 112 mg/g from the studied aqueous solution. The adsorption mechanism relies on coordination bonding between Pb2+ ions and surface-functionalized amine groups on SBA-15@BDA NPs. Furthermore, the proposed SBA-15@BDA NPs adsorbent demonstrated excellent reusability over five cycles without significantly reducing adsorption performance. The absorption of high-viscosity oil by traditional oil absorbing materials has always been a challenge. So there is an urgent need to solve the problem of slow absorption of high-viscosity oil. In this work, an emulsion composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), carbon black (CB) and waterborne polyurethane (solid content 40%) was sprayed on the melamine foam (MF). After volatilization of organic solvents, the photothermal material CB was fixed on the MF framework, making it photothermal. By raising the temperature of the modified foam to accelerate the internal thermal movement of high-viscosity oil molecules around the foam, intermolecular forces are reduced, thereby accelerating the separation process. The absorption capacity of this modified MF towards organic solvents and oil is up to 79 times its own weight. In addition, the mechanical properties of the modified foam are improved to a certain extent, more conducive to the continuous oil–water separation. A surface-modified mesoporous silica nanoparticle containing dimercaprol monomers was created utilizing the sol–gel condensation process, using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica source and poloxamer as the structure directing agent. To accomplish this synthesis, 3-glycidoxypropyl triethoxysilane (GPTS, 20 mol%) was incorporated into the silica walls during the sol–gel condensation process, along with TEOS. Furthermore, dimercaprol (DM) monomers were incorporated onto silica surfaces by a ring-opening reaction between GPTS epoxy groups, and dimercaprol hydroxyl groups. The prepared dimercaprol-modified silica adsorbent (MSN-DT NPs) material has been studied using a variety of instruments, including XRD, FT-IR, N2 adsorption–desorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, and zeta potential analysis. The MSN-DT NPs material selectively adsorbs mercury ions, with a high adsorption amount of 125 mg/g and a removal capability of roughly ~ 90% from the original metal ion mixture comprising other competing metals such as Pb2+, Ni2+, Fe2+, and Zn2+. The MSN-DT NPs adsorbent shows recyclable qualities for up to five cycles when treated with an acidic aqueous solution (0.1 M HCl). As a result, the MSN-DT NPs adsorbent may be regenerated and reused up to five times without losing its adsorption effectiveness. In many countries and regions, air pollution has become an environmental problem that cannot be ignored. Therefore, air filters with high efficiency, low resistance and strong antibacterial activity should be developed. In this study, carboxymethyl chitosan was impregnated on the surface of PP melt-blown layer to enhance the adsorption of copper ions on PP non-woven fabric. The porous nanomaterial Cu-BTC nanoparticles were loaded on the fibre surface of PP non-woven fabric by in-situ growth method. The micro–nano-composite membrane was prepared by electrospinning TPU on the surface of PP@Cu-BTC. The micro–nano-composite membrane could capture PM2.5 efficiently, and the filtration efficiency of PM2.5 particles was 97.7%. The composite membrane also exhibited excellent antibacterial properties. The inhibition rate of the composite membrane to Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli reached 99.9%. In addition, the composite membrane demonstrated strong stability, and the corresponding inhibition rate did not decrease after washing and drying five times. The membrane featured high-efficiency filtration, excellent antibacterial performance and stability. Cosmopolitan individuals identify themselves as "citizens of the world." In the present research, we tested the idea that endorsing a cosmopolitan orientation (CO) is adaptive in the COVID-19 crisis. Cosmopolitan individuals more readily transcend national parochialism, show greater concern for all humanity, and prioritize collective interests. In a two-wave multi-region investigation with six samples from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and the U.S., we first established longitudinal and cross-cultural measurement invariance of the CO scale. Next, we found that people with a higher CO tended to perceive over time a greater threat posed by COVID-19, take more safety measures, advocate collaboration to contain the pandemic and see opportunities for positive change brought about by COVID-19 (e.g., environmental sustainability). Higher CO was also associated with a greater willingness to be vaccinated and a greater support for collective containment efforts. Analyses also revealed these effects to be largely generalizable across regions, thus lending strong support for the pancultural function of CO in promoting the resilience of humanity in the trying times of the COVID-19 crisis. This study investigates the pivotal role of trust in bridging the effects of transformational leadership on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). The study was conducted using a multilevel longitudinal approach with 276 employees in 71 teams from private medium-sized organizations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Transformational leadership was found to be positively related to: (1) three facets of trustworthiness (ability, benevolence, and integrity); (2) trust in the leader; and (3) OCB. All three facets of trustworthiness mediated the relationship between transformational leadership and trust in leaders. In addition, trust in the leader mediated only the relationship between the benevolence facet of trustworthiness and OCB. As OCB is inherently benevolent, these findings not only are consistent with the principle of compatibility, but they also contribute to theorizing about 'how' trust plays an important role in the influence of transformational leadership on employees. This study introduces functional composite boards, combining nano carbon yarns, stainless steels, and far-infrared (FIR) polypropylene (PP). Stainless steel filaments are wrapped in nano carbon fibers to form yarns, which are then woven into knitted fabrics. These fabrics are laminated at various angles and combined with FIR powder and PP pellets to create functional slabs. These slabs are hot-pressed to form the composite boards. The boards are tested for various properties, leading to the identification of optimal parameters: 2.5 wt% FIR powder content and a lamination angle of 0°/45°/90°. The optimal boards demonstrate high tensile strength, impact resistance, bending capacity, EMI shielding, and FIR release. Thus, the boards with these parameters offer the best performance. While national parochialism is commonplace, individual differences explain more variance in it than cross-national differences. Global consciousness (GC), a multi-dimensional concept that includes identification with all humanity, cosmopolitan orientation, and global orientation, transcends national parochialism. Across six societies (N = 11,163), most notably the USA and China, individuals high in GC were more generous allocating funds to the other in a dictator game, cooperated more in a one-shot prisoner's dilemma, and differentiated less between the ingroup and outgroup on these actions. They gave more to the world and kept less for the self in a multi-level public goods dilemma. GC profiles showed 80% test–retest stability over 8 months. Purpose: Patients with heart failure (HF) possess low self-care activation and motivation, leading to a deprived quality of life and adverse mental health conditions. To this end, self-determination theory emphasizes that autonomy-supportive interventions (ASI) can stimulate intrinsic motivation and improve behaviors and quality of life. Nevertheless, studies that focused on ASI for HF are inadequate. This study aims to evaluate the effects of an HF-ASIP on self-care, quality of life and mental health in HF patients. Methods: In a two-arm randomized controlled trial, the participants are randomly allocated to the intervention (n = 41) or control (n = 41) groups. The intervention group received routine care and participated in an 8-week HF-ASIP, including individual education and consultation sessions. In contrast, the control group received only routine care. The primary outcome includes self-care management, while the secondary outcomes include self-care maintenance, quality of life, mental health, and motivation. After measuring the outcomes at baseline (T0), 4-week (T1), 8-week (T2), and 12-week (T3) follow-up, the intervention effects are assessed using the generalized equation models. Results: The outcomes indicated that self-care management (T2: P = 0.001; T3: P = 0.016), self-care maintenance (T2: P = 0.003; T3: P = 0.001), depression (T2: P = 0.007; T3: P = 0.012), anxiety (T2: P = 0.001; T3: P = 0.012), MLHFQ total score (T1: P = 0.004; T2: P < 0.001; T3: P = 0.001), autonomous motivation (T2: P =.0.006; T3: P = 0.002) showed statistically difference between the groups. Conclusion: In summary, the 8-week HF-ASIP significantly improved the attributes of self-care, quality of life, mental health, and motivation in HF patients, suggesting the potential for practical intervention effect. Artesunate (ART) has great value in the field of tumor therapy. Interestingly, in this study, we found that ART could obviously induce ferroptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, but its low water solubility and bioavailability limited its application potential. Hence, we synthesized ART-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) conjugated with folic acid (FA) (MSN-ART-FA) with tumor-targeting performance and assessed their characteristics. We evaluated the ability of MSN-ART and MSN-ART-FA to induce ferroptosis of hepatoma cells via testing levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), Fe2+, malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH), observation of mitochondrial morphology, as well as the expression of key proteins in ferroptosis. The results showed that prepared MSN-ART and MSN-ART-FA could remarkedly improve the bioavailability of ART to enhance ferroptosis, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro. Besides, MSN-ART-FA group displayed slower tumor growth and smaller tumor volumes than MSN-ART group in HepG2 xenograft mouse model. The measurement of hypertensive patients' stroke knowledge is an important stroke prevention indicator of health care service quality. The aim of this study was to develop a Chinese version of the Stroke Knowledge Test and examine its psychometric properties, reliability, and validity for hypertensive patients. A sample of 200 hypertensive patients completed the Chinese version of the Stroke Knowledge Test, and 30 of the participants were retested after 2 weeks. The final Chinese version of the Stroke Knowledge Test included 20 items with acceptable content validity (I-CVI = 0.88 ~ 1.00, S-CVI/Ave = 0.97). These items showed satisfactory internal reliability consistency (Kuder Richardson-20 = 0.62) and test–retest reliability was 0.77. The 40% of the difficulty index was in the acceptable range, and 25% was in the difficult range, as well as the 90% items overall values for discrimination were ranged from 0.2 to > 0.4. Known-group validity testing was performed based on the education level, and the result exhibited significant difference (F = 21.21, p < 0.001). The Chinese version of the Stroke Knowledge Test demonstrated acceptable psychometric properties, thus providing a new tool for the future care of hypertensive patients in Taiwan. This study examines the effect of lottery characteristics on analysts' earnings forecasts. We find that analysts are more optimistic for lottery firms. Compensation incentives and access to private information from management are key drivers for analysts' optimistic forecasts. The optimism of earnings forecast for lottery stocks decreases with analysts' general and firm-specific experience. Our findings suggest that both behavioral biases and rational incentives help explain analysts' optimism toward lottery stocks. Moreover, investor sentiment positively affects the effect of lottery characteristics on analyst optimism. Firm-specific risk and market uncertainty enhance the effect of lottery characteristics on analysts' earnings forecast bias. This study is conducted with an attempt to explore the influences of PEO (2, 4, 6 wt%) and Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (100, 125, 150, and 175 mg/mL) over the antibacterial and other performances of wound dressings. The PEO/ Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge mixtures are formed into wound dressings via the electrospinning. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation, fiber diameter analysis, water contact angle measurement, and antibacterial assay are performed to investigate the properties of wound dressings. The properties of nanofiber membranes are correlated with PEO concentration, and the antibacterial property of nanofiber membranes is dependent on the Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge concentration, which makes the optimal Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge/PEO ratio being 175/6. The optimal diameter of nanofibers is 239.00 ± 361 nm while the maximal diameter of inhibition zone is 11.50 mm. The research of obesity and gut microbiota has been carried out for years, yet the study process was in a slow pace for several challenges to conquer. As a complex status of disorder, the contributing factors refer to gut microbiota about obesity were controversial in a wide range. In terms of proteomics, 2D-DIGE technology is a powerful method for this study to identify fecal proteins from lean microbiota in Dusp6 knockout C57BL/6J mice, exploring the protein markers of the ability resisting to diet-induced obesity (DIO) transferred to the host mice after fecal microbiota transplantation. The results showed that the fecal microbiota expressed 289 proteins differentially with 23 proteins identified, which were considered to be the reasons to assist the microbiota exhibiting distinct behavior. By means of proteomics technology, we had found that differentially expressed proteins of lean microbiota determined the lean microbial behavior might be able to resist leaky gut. To sum up our study, the proteomics strategies offered as a tool to demonstrate and analyze the features of lean microbiota, providing new speculations in the behavior about the gut microbiota reacting to DIO. Background: The presence of single-node metastasis (Ns) sometimes could be encountered in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The survival outcome for different Ns should be worthy of discussion. Methods: Patients diagnosed with OSCC at the National Taiwan University Hospital between January 2007 and December 2018 were reviewed. All patients with Ns were classified into two groups: with and without extranodal extension (ENE). Results: We analyzed 311 OSCC patients with Ns: 77 (24.76%) with and 234 (75.24%) without ENE. Lymph node (LN) >3 cm was the only significant factor associated with ENE (odds ratio 17.21, p < 0.001). The 5-year, disease-free survival of N1/N2A and N3B patients was 60.5% and 49.4%, respectively (p = 0.04), and the 5-year overall survival was 63.1% and 33.6%, respectively (p = 0.0001). Four fifths of Ns patients with LN >3 cm were upgraded to N3B category as ENE+. Postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) could provide significant benefit in regional control for Ns patients with (p = 0.03) and without (p = 0.0004) other adverse features. After multivariant Cox analysis, ENE+ was a modest and significant risk factor for disease-free (p = 0.08) and overall survival (p = 0.001). By contrast, the LN>3cm and N2A category were not significant risk factors for disease-free and overall survival. Conclusions: For OSCC patients with Ns, the survival outcome between N3B category and N1/N2A category was significantly different. After ENE+ upgrades (>80%), there were fewer N2A patients, and these patients became more comparable to N1 patients. PORT could significantly improve regional control for Ns patients. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of proactive swallowing rehabilitation on swallowing function and quality of life in patients with recurrent oral cancer in the first 2 years after salvage treatment. Consecutive adult patients with recurrent oral cancer who received salvage surgery and free flap reconstruction were recruited prospectively, to whom proactive swallowing rehabilitation was provided. Body weight (BW); fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), functional oral intake scale (FOIS), and diet level; 10-item eating assessment tool (EAT-10), and MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory (MDADI); and adherence at baseline, 1, 3, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months were evaluated. A total of 50 patients were included during May 2018 to July 2020. Compared to the baseline, significant deterioration in BW, FOIS, and MDADI was noted at one month. However, a trend of recovery was observed in BW and FOIS from one month, and in MDADI from three months. All patients were free of tube feeding at 18–24 months and tolerated diet with special preparations or compensation. Safe swallowing could be achieved in approximately 80% participants after 12 months of diet modification or compensatory maneuvers. Proactive swallowing therapy was feasible in patients with recurrent oral cancer receiving salvage treatment. Although this patient population might have pre-existing dysphagia from previous treatments, rehabilitation could facilitate safe per oral intake and maintain adequate nutrition with adaptive maneuvers or compensatory strategies. Hypochlorous acid has important molecular functions in biological systems. The development of hypochlorous acid fluorescent probes has always been one of the research hotspots. In this study, a 7-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-tryptamine-8-carboxaldehyde (HMOCC)-enhanced fluorescent probe was rationally synthesized as a simple and effective detection of hypochlorite (ClO−) in osteosarcoma cells (143B cells). The probe (HMOCC) exhibits high specificity, high fluorescence enhancement, low toxicity, and good selectivity for different reactive oxygen species (ROS) and low detection limit 0.00791 μM. The introduction of ClO− makes the emission of HMOCC red-shift from 450 to 472 nm. Based on ESI–MS analysis and frontier molecular orbital calculations, a possible mechanism for fluorescence detection of ClO− is proposed. Purpose: To investigate the frequency of sleep disturbance and its effects on quality of life in adults with untreated primary brain tumors. Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited 68 and 35 patients with newly diagnosed benign and malignant brain tumors, respectively. All participants completed the Chinese versions of the Athens Insomnia Scale, Epworth Sleepiness Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Brief Fatigue Inventory, and EORTC-QLQ-BN20 for quality-of-life assessment. An actigraph was used to measure sleep parameters [e.g., dichotomy index (I < O)], for at least 3 consecutive days in untreated status. Results: The majority of the patients with benign and malignant tumors had meningioma (57.4%) and glioblastoma (40%), respectively. The prevalence of insomnia, poor sleep quality, and excessive daytime sleepiness was 59.2%, 77.7%, and 4.9%, respectively. The prevalence rates of sleep disturbances were not affected by tumor locations (suprasellar vs. non-suprasellar tumors) and tumor types (benign vs. malignant tumors). Only 36 participants completed actigraphy assessments (I < O = 95.4) due to having a tight schedule, actigraph malfunction, or not having the habit of wearing a wristwatch; 61% of them experienced circadian rhythm disruption (I < O ≤ 97.5). Insomnia was the only sleep parameter that significantly affected quality of life after controlling for potential confounders (B = 0.54, p = 0.03, adjusted R2 = 0.60). Conclusion: More than 60% of the patients with primary malignant and benign brain tumors experienced insomnia, poor sleep quality, and circadian rhythm disruption. Insomnia was independently correlated with quality of life in untreated status. It is critical to understand factors associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) metastasis. To track the evolutionary route of metastasis, here we perform an integrative genomic analysis of 163 matched blood and primary, regional lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis tumour samples, combined with single-cell RNA-seq on 11 samples from two patients. The mutation burden, gene mutation frequency, mutation signature, and copy number frequency are similar between metastatic tumours and primary and regional lymph node tumours. There are two distinct evolutionary routes of metastasis, including metastases evolved from regional lymph nodes (lymphatic route, 61.5%, 8/13) and from primary tumours (hematogenous route, 38.5%, 5/13). The hematogenous route is characterised by higher IFN-γ response gene expression and a higher fraction of exhausted CD8+ T cells. Based on a radiomics model, we find that the hematogenous group has significantly better progression-free survival and PD-1 immunotherapy response, while the lymphatic group has a better response to locoregional radiotherapy. It is critical to understand the factors that are associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) progression, metastasis and response to therapy. Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Shexiang Baoxin Pill combined with exercise in heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Methods: Sixty patients with HFpEF were randomly divided into group A (n=20), receiving Shexiang Baoxin Pill combined with home-based exercise training based on conventional drugs for 12 weeks; group B (n=20), receiving conventional drugs combined with home-based exercise training for 12 weeks; and group C (n=20), receiving conventional drug treatment only. Peak oxygen uptake (peakVO2), anaerobic threshold (AT), 6-min walking test (6MWT), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and SF-36 questionnaire (SF-36) results before and after treatment were compared among groups. Results: After the 12-week intervention, patients in group C showed significant declines in peakVO2, AT, 6MWT, PSQI, and SF-36 compared with pre-treatment (P<0.01), while groups A and B both showed significant improvements in peakVO2, AT, 6MWT, PSQI, and SF-36 results compared with pre-treatment (P<0.01). Compared with group C, patients in groups A and B showed significant improvements in peakVO2, AT, 6MWT, PSQI, and SF-36 (P<0.01). In addition, patients in group A showed more significant improvements in physical function, role-physical, vitality, and mental health scores on the SF-36 questionnaire, and PSQI scores than those in group B (P<0.01). Conclusions: Exercise training improved exercise tolerance, sleep quality and quality of life (QoL) in patients with HFpEF. Background: Melanogenesis is a complex process which is tightly regulated by several enzymes. However, abnormal melanogenesis can cause severe dermatological problems. Roots of Angelica dahurica have been used for skin care as a part of traditional Chinese medicine for many generations. However, the role of A. dahurica in melanogenesis remains unclear. Objective: Previous in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that NK-1R exerts positive effects in melanogenesis via the Wnt/βcatenin signaling pathway. In this study, we investigated the effects of A. dahurica ethanol extract (ADE) on NK-1R and Wnt/β-catenin signaling, and evaluated the effect of NK-1R on melanogenesis in B16F0 cells. Results: Angelica dahurica ethanol extract efficiently downregulated Neurokinin-1 receptor and Wnt/β-catenin signaling by decreasing the expression of β-catenin, MITF, LEF-1, TYR, TRP1, and TRP2 and increasing the expression of GSK3β, which resulted from the weakened expression of the Neurokinin-1 receptor inhibitor [Sar9,Met(O2)11]-Substance P (SMSP). Furthermore, the intracellular melanin assay and cellular tyrosinase activity confirmed these findings. Conclusion: This study suggests that ADE has potential to downregulate Neurokinin-1 receptor in SMSP-induced B16F0 cells, thereby repressing the Wnt/β-catenin signaling and reduces melanin production. Over-application of copper (Cu) is prevalent in citrus orchards of South China. Therefore, the evaluation of citrus Cu tolerance is of significance for better nutrient management and in the breeding of Cu-tolerant citrus species. In this study, seedlings of 'Xuegan' [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] and 'Shatian pummelo' [Citrus grandis (L.) Osbeck] were treated with 0.5 µM Cu (Control) or 300 µM Cu (Cu toxicity) for 18 weeks in sandy culture medium. The results demonstrated that excess Cu decreased seedling biomass, plant height, and root length and significantly increased Cu accumulation of C. sinensis and C. grandis. The Cu distribution in citrus tissues was following the order: lateral roots > primary roots > stems > leaves. Compared to C. sinensis, C. grandis had a 22.4% higher Cu concentration in the lateral roots under Cu toxicity. According to the stomata limiting theory, the inhibition of the net photosynthetic rate of C. sinensis leaves by Cu toxicity was mainly attributed to non-stomata limitation. The chlorophyll a transient indicated much more severe damage to the structure and function of leaf photosynthetic system II (PS II) in C. sinensis than C. grandis by Cu toxicity. Conclusively, a higher Cu retention in the lateral roots, the maintenance of a stable PS II structure, and higher electron transferring rate from PS II to PS I implied the relatively higher Cu tolerance of C. grandis seedlings. Fusarium verticillioides, a well-known fungal pathogen that causes severe disease in maize and contaminates the grains with fumonisin B1 (FB1) mycotoxin, affects the yield and quality of maize worldwide. The intrinsic roles of peroxisome targeting signal (PTS)–containing proteins in phytopathogens remain elusive. We therefore explored the regulatory role and other biological functions of the components of PTS2 receptor complex, FvPex7 and FvPex20, in F. verticillioides. We found that FvPex7 directly interacts with the carboxyl terminus of FvPex20 in F. verticillioides. PTS2-containing proteins are recognized and bound by the FvPex7 receptor or the FvPex7-Pex20 receptor complex in the cytoplasm, but the peroxisome localization of the PTS2-Pex7-Pex20 complex is only determined by Pex20 in F. verticillioides. However, we observed that some putative PTS2 proteins that interact with Pex7 are not transported into the peroxisomes, but a PTS1 protein that interacts with Pex5 was detected in the peroxisomes. Furthermore, ΔFvpex7pex20 as well as ΔFvpex7pex5 double mutants exhibited reduced pathogenicity and FB1 biosynthesis, along with defects in conidiation. The PTS2 receptor complex mutants (ΔFvpex7pex20) grew slowly on minimal media and showed reduced sensitivity to cell wall and cell membrane stress-inducing agents compared to the wild type. Taken together, we conclude that the PTS2 receptor complex mediates peroxisome matrix proteins import and contributes to pathogenicity and FB1 biosynthesis in F. verticillioides. Past studies have shown evidence of transfer of learning in action video games, less so in other types, e.g. strategy games. Further, the transfer of learning from games to inhibitory control has yet to be examined from the perspectives of time constraint and logic contradiction. We examined the effect of strategy games (puzzle, turn-based strategy 'TBS', and real-time strategy 'RTS') on inhibition (response inhibition and distractor inhibition) and cerebral hemispheric activation over 4 weeks. We predicted that compared to RTS, puzzle and TBS games would (1) improve response and distractor inhibition, and (2) increase cerebral hemispheric activation demonstrating increased inhibitory control. A total of 67 non-habitual video game players (Mage = 21.63 years old, SD = 2.12) played one of three games: puzzle (n = 19), TBS (n = 24) or RTS (n = 24) for 4 weeks on their smartphones. Participants completed three inhibition tasks, working memory (WM), and had their tympanic membrane temperature (TMT) taken from each ear before and after playing the games. Results showed that only the puzzle game group showed an improved response inhibition while controlling for WM. There were no significant changes in the distractor inhibition tasks. We also found that there was an increase in left TMT while playing RTS, suggesting the presence of increased impulsivity in RTS. This study aims to develop an extraction and purification method for production of type II collagen and its bioactive peptides from sturgeon fish cartilage. Initially, freeze-dried sturgeon fish cartilage was powdered for extraction of pepsin soluble collagen (PSC) using 0.5 M acetic acid and 10% pepsin with a PSC yield of 34.59%. Optimization of PSC hydrolysis revealed that a high hydrolysis degree (34.23%) was obtained using an enzyme combination of 4.5% alcalase plus 4.5% flavourzyme, PSC to water ratio at 1:30 (w/v), pH at 8, temperature at 50 °C and hydrolysis time at 6 h to obtain sturgeon cartilage collagen peptide (SCCP). Both PSC and SCCP were characterized for collagen type and molecular weight (MW) range by SDS-PAGE, amino acid composition by HPLC-DAD, MW distribution by MALDI-TOF-MS, functional group by FTIR and absorption spectra by UV analysis confirming the presence of type II collagen in sturgeon fish cartilage with amino acids including glycine, glutamic acid, hydroxyproline, proline and alanine dominating in both PSC and SCCP. Furthermore, the SCCP possessed < 500 Da MW distribution accounting for 89.71% of the total signal, with a peptide fragment at MW 344.721 Da being present in the highest proportion. Background: Thyroid hormones are critical regulators of metabolism, development and growth in mammals. However, the genetic association of thyroid-related hormones in the Chinese Han population is not fully understood. Objective: We aimed to identify the genetic loci associated with circulating thyroid-related hormones concentrations in the healthy Chinese Han population. Methods: Genotyping was performed in 124 individuals using Applied Biosystems™ Axiom™ PMDA, and 796,288 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were available for the GWAS analysis. For replication, eleven SNPs were selected as candidate loci for genotyping by Agena MassARRAY platform in additional samples (313 subjects). The values of p < 5 × 10− 6 suggest a suggestively significant genome-wide association with circulating thyroid-related hormones concentrations. Results: We identified that rs11178277 (PTPRB, p = 4.88 × 10− 07) and rs7320337 (LMO7DN-KCTD12, p = 1.22 × 10− 06) were associated with serum FT3 level. Three SNPs (rs4850041 in LOC105373394-LINC01249: p = 3.55 × 10− 06, rs6867291 in LINC02208: p = 2.40 × 10− 06 and rs79508321 in WWOX: p = 3.35 × 10− 06) were related to circulating T3 level. Rs12474167 (LOC105373394-LINC01249, p = 1.65 × 10− 06) and rs1864553 (IWS1, p = 2.00 × 10− 06) were associated with circulating T4 concentration. The association with TGA concentration was for rs17163542 in DISP1 (p = 3.46 × 10− 06) and rs12601151 in NOG-C17orf67 (p = 2.72 × 10− 07). Two genome-level significant SNPs (rs2114707 in LINC01314, p = 1.69 × 10− 06 and rs12601151, p = 1.41 × 10− 07) associated with serum TMA concentration were identified. Moreover, rs6083269 (CST1-CST2, p = 3.36 × 10− 06) was a significant locus for circulating TSH level. In replication, rs12601151 in NOG-C17orf67 was still associated with serum TGA level (p = 0.012). Conclusions: The GWAS reported 11 new suggestively significant loci associated with circulating thyroid-related hormones levels among the Chinese Han population. Introduction: BNT162b1 is a lipid nanoparticle-formulated, nucleoside-modified mRNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Here, we report safety and immune persistence data following a primary two-dose vaccination schedule administered 21 days apart. Methods: Immune persistence was determined at month 3 in 72 younger participants (aged 18–55 years) and at month 6 in 70 younger and 69 older participants (aged 65–85 years). Results: In younger participants, neutralizing antibody (nAb) geometric mean titers (GMTs) for the 10 and 30 µg dose levels declined from 233 and 254 (21 days after dose 2) to 55 and 87 at month 3, respectively, and to 16 and 27 at month 6, respectively. In older participants, nAb GMTs declined from 80 and 160 (21 days after dose 2) to 10 and 21 at month 6. Overall, higher antibody titers were observed in younger participants, and the 30 µg dose induced higher levels of nAb, which declined more slowly by month 6. No serious adverse events were reported in the vaccine group. Conclusion: This study showed BNT162b1 maintains a favorable safety profile in younger and older participants in the 6 months after vaccination. This study further extends our understanding of immune persistence and the safety of the BNT162b1 vaccine as a candidate vaccine in the BioNTech pipeline. In the present paper, we report two studies examining the relationships among renunciation of desires, death anxiety, and mental health. In the first study, we constructed the Desire Questionnaire (DQ), which measures success in renouncing certain desire. The DQ has satisfactory psychometric properties. In the second study, 501 adults from a Chinese society ranging in age from 17 to 84 years (M = 35.58, SD = 14.76) completed the DQ, the Death Anxiety Scale (DAS), and the Chinese Health Questionnaire (CHQ), which measures mental health and the presence of psychiatric symptoms. As predicted, DQ had significant negative correlations with both DAS (p < 0.05) and CHQ (p < 0.01). DAS had a significant positive correlation with CHQ (p < 0.01). In the linear mediation model, DAS was found to partially mediate the relationship between DQ and CHQ (β = − 0.18, p < 0.001). These results suggest that the negative effect of poor control of desires on mental health can be partially accounted for by death anxiety. These findings imply that training in eliminating desires can be a successful strategy to improve mental health. Background: Quantitative data are limited on the natural course of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic HBV infection (CHB). Aims: To estimate the prevalence of fibrosis status including non-fibrosis, significant fibrosis, advanced fibrosis, and cirrhosis throughout the natural course of CHB. Methods: We searched Cochrane library, EMBASE, PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect from January 1993 to November 2019 for studies with histologic data on liver fibrosis in CHB natural course. CHB course was defined based on current criteria for identifying infection phases as recommended by international clinical practice guidelines, including the HBeAg-positive immune-tolerant, HBeAg-positive immune-active, HBeAg-negative immune-inactive, HBeAg-negative immune-reactive, and HBsAg-negative phases. Pooled prevalence rate of fibrosis status at each phase was obtained from random-effect meta-analyses. Results: Thirty-three studies with 9,377 adult participants (23.8–49.0 age years; 45.5–88.6% males) were eligible and finally included. The estimated prevalence of non-fibrosis, significant fibrosis, advanced fibrosis, and cirrhosis was, for HBeAg-positive immune-tolerant phase: 31.2% (95%CI 15.6–46.7), 16.9% (95%CI 7.8–26.1), 5.4% (95%CI 0.0–11.2), and 0.0% (95%CI 0.0–1.5); HBeAg-positive immune-active phase: 6.9% (95%CI 3.6–10.2), 50.6% (95%CI 39.2–61.9), 32.1% (95%CI 24.2–40.0), and 12.8% (95%CI 8.6–17.0); HBeAg-negative immune-inactive phase: 32.4% (95%CI 0.0–100.0), 24.8% (95%CI 4.5–45.1), 3.0% (95%CI 0.0–8.3), and 0.0% (95%CI 0.0–1.0); and HBeAg-negative immune-reactive phase: 6.3% (95%CI 3.5–9.2), 50.3% (95%CI 38.9–61.7), 30.3% (95%CI 20.9–39.6), and 10.0% (95%CI 6.6–13.5), respectively. Mineral elements (copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), iron (Fe)) play important biological roles in enzymes, hormones, vitamins, and normal metabolism. The deficiency of mineral elements can lead to abnormal physiological functions. And some elements (such as lead (Pb)) are harmful to the body. We aim to identify genetic loci which can influence the serum levels of mineral elements (Cu, Zn, Ca, Mg, Fe, and Pb). Genotyping was performed using Applied Biosystems Axiom™ PMDA in 587 individuals, and 6,423,076 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were available for the genome-wide association study (GWAS) analysis. The association between genotype and phenotype was analyzed using mixed linear regression (additive genetic model) adjusting by age and gender combined with identical by descent (IBD) matrix. Genetic loci in BCHE-LOC105374194, DTX2P1-UPK3BP1-PMS2P11, VAT1L, LINC00908-LINC00683, LINC01310-NONE, and rs6747410 in VWA3B were identified to be associated with serum Cu element concentration (p < 5 × 10−6). ADAMTSL1 rs17229526 (p = 4.96 × 10−6) was significantly associated with serum Zn element levels. Genetic loci in LRP1B, PIGZ-MELTF, LINC01365-LINC02502, and HAPLN3 were related to serum Ca element levels (p < 5 ×1 0−6). Three SNPs in ALPK1, ASAP1-ADCY8 and IER3IP1-SKOR2 also achieved a significant association with Mg element levels (p < 5 × 10−6). TACSTD2-MYSM1, LRP1B, and ASAP1-ADCY8 showed suggestive associations with serum Fe element levels (p < 5 × 10−6). Moreover, the two most significant SNPs associated with Pb were rs304234 in CADPS-LINC00698 (p = 2.47 × 10−6) and rs12666460 in LOC101928211-GPR37 (p = 1.81 × 10−6). In summary, we reported 19 suggestive loci associated with serum mineral elements in the Chinese Han population. A growing scientific literature has examined the predictors of workplace deviance, with much of this research focusing on job attitudes—particularly job satisfaction and organizational commitment—as antecedent variables. Because this research has primarily been conducted within North America, little is known about whether or not the relationships between attitudes and deviance vary across cultures. Thus, in the current research we examined the job attitude-workplace deviance relationship using data collected from workers in four different countries (i.e., China, India, Malaysia, and New Zealand) and meta-analysis. Results for the Malaysian and New Zealand samples indicated that job attitudes were negatively associated with all three measures of workplace deviance. Within the Chinese sample, job satisfaction and organizational commitment were only modestly related to three and two measures of workplace deviance, respectively. Moreover, within the Indian sample, job attitudes were not significantly related to any form of workplace deviance. Theta oscillations (~ 4–12 Hz) are dynamically modulated by speed and direction in freely moving animals. However, due to the paucity of electrophysiological recordings of freely moving humans, this mechanism remains poorly understood. Here, we combined mobile-EEG with fully immersive virtual-reality to investigate theta dynamics in 22 healthy adults (aged 18–29 years old) freely navigating a T-maze to find rewards. Our results revealed three dynamic periods of theta modulation: (1) theta power increases coincided with the participants' decision-making period; (2) theta power increased for fast and leftward trials as subjects approached the goal location; and (3) feedback onset evoked two phase-locked theta bursts over the right temporal and frontal-midline channels. These results suggest that recording scalp EEG in freely moving humans navigating a simple virtual T-maze can be utilized as a powerful translational model by which to map theta dynamics during "real-life" goal-directed behavior in both health and disease. The Diamondback moth (DBM) is one of the notorious pests of crucifers causing significant yield loss throughout the world. In order to understand how particular growing conditions for crops including selective colored protected cultivation may modify integrated pest management strategies, the main objective of this study was to evaluate the mortality and reproduction capabilities of DBM under different colored netting conditions, as well as the main life table parameters using the age-stage, two-sex life table technique. The results revealed that three developmental stages were slightly different among treatments, in which females reared under conventional white net house lived longer compared to females reared under semi-field and colored (magenta color pattern) net house. However, populations' parameters did not change as result of different light conditions, with the exception of the mean generation time (T), which was higher under semi-field conditions compared to the conventional white net house. The obtained biological and ecological information under different colored net structures can be used as an ecological tool to formulate new strategies to control DBM. With the number of patients with chronic diseases increasing, a hierarchical diagnosis and treatment system is a feature of long-term treatment. During the treatment, if patients with chronic diseases are relieved, they can be referred to community hospitals for rehabilitation treatment, and to promote the rational allocation of hospital medical resources. Therefore, hospitals need referral standards to encourage patients to refer down. Existing ranking research which is mainly based on referral criteria,has not considered the low reliability due to different opinions within each group when making referral standard. In view of this, we propose a probabilistic linguistic-multiple criteria decision-making (PL-MCDM) method based on the decision-making reliability of multi-group for patients with chronic diseases requiring downward referral. First, the decision information of different groups on referral criteria is expressed as probabilistic linguistic preferences, and then the reliability levels of groups are measured when setting standards respectively. After that, the decision information and referral standards are re-adjusted for the least reliable group to improve the whole reliability. Secondly, the patients requiring downward referral are ranked by the similarity measure based on statistics of probability preference to acquire the formal referral standards. Finally, compared with the methods without reliability improvement, the real case of coronary heart disease in First Hospital of Qinhuangdao is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, which illustrates its superiority. Co-extrusion technique is used to combine carbon fiber tows and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) blends into composite carbon fibers (CCFs). The TPU blends serve as the shell and the carbon fiber tows serve as the core. CCFs are fabricated into woven composites and knitted composites with electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE). The effects of the content of carbon fiber tows on different fabrics are examined. The failure mechanism of CCFs is improved as the fiber slippage along the axial direction replaces the fiber fracture. Fabrics made of CCFs are soft. The laminated woven composites have an average EMI SE of -27.20 dB at 0–3000 MHz and -44.99 dB at 2450 MHz, suggesting a good EMI attenuation capability. This study proposes the use of co-extrusion technique followed coating and fabrication of carbon fibers. This brand-new concept would be vital in the development of carbon fiber composites. Purpose: To explore the prevalence of sleep disturbances and their effects on quality of life in adults with pituitary tumor or meningioma. Methods: This prospective study included 33 and 44 patients with pituitary tumor and meningioma, respectively. All participants completed a series of valid questionnaires for assessing sleep and quality of life; all participants wore 3-day actigraph prior to related treatment. The actigraph-derived sleep parameters included total sleep time, sleep onset latency, wake after sleep onset, sleep efficiency, and dichotomy index (I < O) value. Results: The prevalence of insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, and poor sleep quality was 46.8%, 6.5%, and 81.8%, respectively. The differences in these sleep parameters between patients with pituitary tumor and those with meningioma were nonsignificant. Only 27 participants completed the actigraphic assessments. The mean I < O value was 95.99%, and nearly 60% participants exhibited circadian rhythm disruption. Sleep quality was the only sleep variable independently correlated with preoperative quality of life, even after adjustments for confounders (B = 0.80, p = 0.02). Conclusions: Insomnia, poor sleep quality, and disrupted circadian rhythm are highly prevalent in adults with untreated pituitary tumor or meningioma. Given the new spread and potential damage of the fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in Asia, it has become imperative to understand the development biology of this invasive species on selected vegetable crops in newer geographical regions. In this study, we investigated the ovipositional preference of FAW females on different host plants, under choice- and non-choice tests. In addition, using the age-stage, two-sex life table theory, we assessed the performance of immature FAW individuals fed and reared on selected vegetable crops to get information related to development time, survival, reproduction and longevity. Fall armyworm females had an oviposition preference on maize compared to other vegetable crops, including cabbage and soybean, and reluctance for tomato, which was confirmed during the choice and non-choice tests. In contrast to the oviposition preference, our results also suggest that despite low preference for cabbage, soybean, and tomato, these crops seemed to provide a high benefit for an appropriate offspring performance, exceeding in some cases the benefits from a maize-based diet. Information from this study was discussed in terms of FAW ecology and how female's decision affects their reproductive fitness, and the survival and performance of its offspring. Currently, lakes and artificial reservoirs are increasingly threatened by eutrophication, which is the result of the combined action of many natural and anthropogenic factors. In the past, the effect of nutrient load on the trophic state of water bodies has attracted much attention, while few studies have addressed the effect of hydrological characteristics. Therefore, to reveal the coupling effects of hydrological characteristics and nutrient load in sediments on the trophic state of water bodies, this study collected relevant data from 36 lakes and reservoirs across China. Pearson correlation analysis showed that trophic level index was positively and significantly correlated with nutrient load in sediments and hydraulic retention time, while it was negatively correlated with mean depth and hydraulic load. The principal component analysis showed that the nutrient load was the first major component that influenced the trophic state of water bodies, followed by the mean depth and hydraulic retention time. Eutrophication was prone to occur in water bodies with mean depth less than 7 m and hydraulic retention time greater than 14 d, and the trophic level index regression equation with hydrological characteristics and nutrient load in sediments was derived by multiple regression analysis. This study revealed that the trophic state of water bodies influenced by both nutrient load and hydrological characteristics. Recently, the temperature sensing using the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) of two thermally coupled emission bands of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) has attracted more and more attention. Here, we report optical temperature sensing based on UCNPs with enhanced sensitivity via dielectric superlensing modulation. UCNPs are first deposed on an aluminium flake and then coated with a monolayer of polystyrene microspheres (PS spheres) to form a composite film. Under the excitation of near-infrared 980 nm laser, FIR of the transitions 1I6→3H6 (310 nm) and 1D2→3H6 (360 nm) of Tm3+ ions in UCNPs is highly sensitive to temperature variation. The thermal sensitivity of the composite film is enhanced by more than 70% at the temperature of 350 K relative to that without PS sphere superlens, which is ascribed to the modulation of the dielectric superlensing effect on the wave front of upconversion ultraviolet fluorescence. We used adjusted prevalence ratios [aPR] from multivariable regression to examine the association of dental and medical insurance with receipt of dental cleaning during pregnancy, controlling for selected covariates that influence dental care utilization. Results: Seventy-seven percent (77%) of all women reported having dental insurance during pregnancy. Receipt of dental cleaning before pregnancy was strongly associated with dental cleaning during pregnancy. Among women without pre-pregnancy dental cleaning who had dental insurance, those with Medicaid medical insurance had a significantly higher prevalence of dental cleaning during pregnancy [aPR = 1.42, 95% CI (1.32 − 1.52)], compared to those private medical insurance. Among women without pre-pregnancy dental cleaning, those without dental insurance but with Medicaid medical insurance were about 70% less likely to have dental cleaning during pregnancy compared to those with dental and private medical insurance. Conclusions for Practice: With or without dental insurance, pre-pregnancy dental cleaning was strongly associated with dental cleaning during pregnancy. Dental insurance was an important determinant of dental utilization. Medical insurance had an independent and positive effect. This effect varied by private versus Medicaid medical insurance. With the rapid increase in HIV prevalence of men who have sex with men (MSM) in recent years and common human migration and travelling across different provinces in China, MSM are now finding it easier to meet each other, which might contribute to local HIV epidemics as well as fueling cross-province transmission. We performed a cross-sectional survey in 2018–2019 to investigate the current HIV subtype diversity and inferred HIV strain transmission origin among MSM in Guangxi province, China based on a phylogenetic analysis. Based on 238 samples, we found that the HIV-1 subtype diversity was more complicated than before, except for three major HIV subtypes/circulating recombinant forms (CRFs): CRF07_BC, CRF01_AE, CRF55_01B, five other subtypes/CRFs (CRF59_01B, B, CRF08_BC, CRF67_01B, CRF68_01B) and five unique recombinant forms (URFs) were detected. In total, 76.8% (169/220) of samples were infected with HIV from local circulating strains, while others originated from other provinces, predominantly Guangdong and Shanghai. The high diversity of HIV recombinants and complicated HIV transmission sources in Guangxi MSM indicates that there has been an active sexual network between HIV positive MSM both within and outside Guangxi without any effective prevention. Longhorn beetles are extremely rich wood-boring insects possessing larvae that feed on the xylem of trees and/or lianas, which have detrimental effects on plants; in turn, the hosting plants may play a fundamental role in shaping the longhorn beetle community assemblage. However, factors determining the community assemblage of wood-boring longhorn beetles, particularly along the multiple spatial scales is still in need of further exploration. In this study, we designed an experiment across several spatial scales (from local to macro scales) from tropical to temperate climate gradients in Yunnan province, southwest China to examine to what extend the attributes of host-specificity is shaping the community assemblage along different spatial scales. This study concludes that (1) the wood-boring longhorn beetles showed attributes of host-specificity to a certain degree at the community level, (2) biotic (host plant specificity) and abiotic (climatic gradients) factors jointly shaped community composition of this species along the multiple spatial scales, (3) biotic interactions have a prominent effect on the community composition of this species at local-scale while macroclimatic gradients impose the major control on it at macro-scale. Introduction: Data is currently lacking regarding association between the cholecystectomy/hepatectomy/pancreatectomy and the development of osteoporotic fracture. A retrospective cohort study was conducted to investigate the relationship between cholecystectomy/hepatectomy/pancreatectomy and the subsequent risk of developing osteoporotic fracture. Materials and Methods: Patients having undergone cholecystectomy, hepatectomy, or pancreatectomy between 2000 and 2012 were selected from the All Population Based Hospitalization File as the surgery cohort (n = 304,081), which was frequency matched with the control cohort (n = 304,081). The Cox proportional hazard model and Kaplan–Meier analysis were applied to measure the hazard ratios and the cumulative incidence of osteoporotic fracture. Results: A total of 1136 patients in the surgery cohort and 1179 patients in the control cohort were newly diagnosed with osteoporotic fracture. The overall osteoporotic fracture risk in the surgery cohort was 1.12-fold higher [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.03–1.21]. Specifically, surgery cohort had higher vertebral fracture risk than non-surgery cohort [adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) 1.12, Cl, 1.03–1.22]. In addition, patients underwent cholecystectomy (includes open and laparoscopic approaches), hepatectomy (only open approach), and pancreatectomy group (only open approach) were 1.10 (95% CI, 1.01–1.19), 1.49 (95% CI, 1.10–2.01), and 1.88 (95% CI, 1.23–2.87) times more likely to develop osteoporotic fracture, respectively. No significant difference of osteoporotic fracture risk was observed between open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The risk of osteoporotic fracture was significantly increased in females, patients aged ≥ 40 years old, and patients with some comorbidity. Conclusions: Patients post cholecystectomy, hepatectomy, or pancreatectomy significantly increased risk of developing osteoporotic fracture, suggesting closer attention in post-operative care is needed. Ovarian cancer (OC) is a highly malignant tumor. X inactive specific transcript (XIST) was identified as a cancer-related gene, while its therapeutic effect in OC was poorly defined. The present study was designed to investigate the effectual corollary of the lncRNA XIST in OC. RT-qPCR was used to detect the XIST and miR-106a expression levels of OC tissues and cell lines. OC cell apoptosis and proliferation were detected by flow cytometry, colony formation, and CCK-8 assays. Moreover, bioinformatics analysis was used to predict the targeted miRNA of XIST. The dual-luciferase reporter and RNA pull-down assays were then used to verify the interaction between miR-106a and XIST. OC xenograft nude mice were raised to measure tumor growth. Notably, OC tissues and cells exhibited low XIST levels and high miR-106a levels. The XIST upregulation decreased the OVCAR3 and CAOV3 cell proliferation and inversely promoted cell apoptosis. miR-106a targeted the XIST. Also, the miR-106a overexpression reversed the inhibitory effects of XIST on OC cell proliferation and apoptosis. Our in vivo results suggested that XIST was involved in tumor growth deceleration, while the miR-106a reversed the effect. Background: The research is to explore the association between nontyphoidal salmonellosis (NTS) and subsequent gastric cancer. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study by analyzing hospitalization dataset from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan. Patients aged 20 years and older with NTS (n = 9 097) admitted between January 1, 2000, and December 31, 2012, were enrolled and followed up until December 31, 2013. The primary outcome was the incidence of gastric cancer. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to estimate the risk of malignancy, accounting for the competing risk of death. In addition, we conducted a sensitivity analysis by propensity score matching and exclusion of malignancy within 1 year observation to minimize measurable confounding and protopathic bias. Negative controls were applied to examine the presence of possible unmeasured confounders in the study. Results: The study included 18 194 patients (9097 in each NTS and non-NTS group). The median follow-up time was 7 years. The incidence density rate of gastric cancer was 0.72 per 1000 person-years for the NTS group and 0.40 per 1000 person-years for the non-NTS group. The NTS group had a modestly higher risk of gastric cancer (aHR, 2.02; 95% CI 1.18–3.45) than the non-NTS group. The sensitivity analyses revealed consistent results. Conclusions: Patients with NTS are associated with increased risk of subsequent gastric cancer compared with non-NTS patients. In this study, the coating process is employed on metal wire to help improve the friction resistant property of carbon fibers, thereby provides more application feasibility. The yarn coating technique for reinforcement and woven fabric process are used to produce carbon/stainless steel/polyester/polypropylene/acrylic (CSPPA) woven fabrics that are characterized with softness and a light weight. The constituent coated yarns exhibit good conductivity after being coated with a PP layer, and likewise strengthen the woven fabrics in terms of mechanical behavior of tensile strength, elongation, bending torsion, creep resistance, and wear-resistant properties. The test results indicate that in the woven process, samples retain good morphology. Due to PP sheath, the tensile strength of woven fabrics increases from 23 MPa to 42 MPa. Although the lamination layer numbers does not improve the EMI SE of woven fabrics, the EMI SE still reaches over 40 dB. The manufacturing design proposed in this study provides an innovative finishing for carbon fibers without affecting the intrinsic properties, and provides a greater range of application for carbon fibers. Purpose: Many studies have revealed that statin therapy reduced mortality in cancer patients, especially in breast cancer, but the effect for second cancer was unclear. We, therefore, performed a comparable cohort study to determine the risk of second cancer in breast cancer patients with statin therapy. Methods: Using claims data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Program, this study enrolled newly diagnosed breast cancer patients from 2000 to 2007 with and without statin therapy as the statin (n = 1222) and nonstatin (n = 4888) cohorts, respectively. The nonstatin cohort was propensity score matched by cohort entry year, age, and randomly selected comorbidities. These two cohorts were followed up until the diagnosis of second cancer, death, or the end of 2011. Cox proportional hazard models were used to estimate the hazard ratios. Results: The statin cohort had a lower incidence rate than the nonstatin cohort for second cancer (7.37 vs. 8.36 per 1000 person-years), although the difference was not significant (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 0.90, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.65–1.26). Compared with the nonstatin cohort, the second cancer risk was significantly higher for patients taking pravastatin (aHR 2.71, 95% CI 1.19–6.19) but lower for those receiving multiple statin treatment (aHR 0.45, 95% CI 0.25–0.81) and combined lipophilic and hydrophilic type of statin (aHR 0.42, 95% CI 0.20–0.89). The risk was lower for patients receiving a cumulative defined daily dose (cDDD) of > 430 (aHR 0.41, 95% CI 0.19–0.86).
