Background: Spinal meningiomas coexisting with schwannomas in patients without neurofibromatosis are extremely rare lesions. There were only 15 cases reported to date, which were concurrent intradural tumors of different pathological types. Case presentation: Herein, we present a rare case of a 15-year-old child with concurrent spinal dorsal meningioma and ventral giant invasive schwannoma at C7-T3 and T10-S5 spinal levels. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography indicated the schwannoma across the thoracic and lumbosacral transitional vertebra, with extensive bony erosion of the sacrum. The results of surgical resection were mostly satisfactory. Conclusions: The present case is the youngest patient diagnosed with concurrent intradural tumors at different spinal levels. The pathogenetic mechanism remains unclear. The clinical presentations are always atypical. Surgical resection of the tumors is the first choice. We use the non-fusion surgery to preserve the function of the lumbar spine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After primary and secondary recovery of tight reservoirs, it becomes increasingly challenging to recover the remaining oil. Therefore, improving the recovery of the remaining oil is of great importance. Herein, molecular dynamics simulation (MD) of residual oil droplet movement behavior under CO2 displacement was conducted in a silica nanopores model. In this research, the movement behavior of CO2 in contact with residual oil droplets under different temperatures was analyzed, and the distribution of molecules number of CO2 and residual oil droplets was investigated. Then, the changes in pressure, kinetic energy, potential energy, van der Waals' force, Coulomb energy, long-range Coulomb potential, bond energy, and angular energy with time in the system after the contact between CO2 and residual oil droplets were studied. At last, the g(r) distribution of CO2–CO2, CO2-oil molecules, and oil molecules-oil molecules at different temperatures was deliberated. According to the results, the diffusion of CO2 can destroy residual oil droplets formed by the n-nonane and simultaneously peel off the n-nonane molecules that attach to SiO2 and graphene nanosheets (GN). The cutoff radius r of the CO2–CO2 is approximately 0.255 nm and that of the C–CO2 is 0.285 nm. The atomic force between CO2 and CO2 is relatively stronger. There is little effect caused by changing temperature on the radius where the maximum peak occurs in the radial distribution function (RDF)-g(r) of CO2–CO2 and C–CO2. The maximum peak of g(r) distribution of the CO2–CO2 in the system declines first and then rises with increasing temperature, while that of g(r) distribution of C–CO2 changes in the opposite way. At different temperatures, after the peak of g(r), its curve decreases with the increase in radius. The coordination number around C9H20 decreases, and the distribution of C9H20 becomes loose. Blood clot formation induced by dysfunctional coagulation is a frequent complication of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and a high-risk factor for severe illness and death. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are implicated in COVID-19-induced immunothrombosis. Furthermore, human cathelicidin, a NET component, can perturb the interaction between the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and its ACE2 receptor, which mediates viral entry into cells. At present, however, the levels of cathelicidin antimicrobial peptides after SARS-CoV-2 infection and their role in COVID-19 thrombosis formation remain unclear. In the current study, we analyzed coagulation function and found a decrease in thrombin time but an increase in fibrinogen level, prothrombin time, and activated partial thromboplastin time in COVID-19 patients. In addition, the cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide LL-37 was upregulated by the spike protein and significantly elevated in the plasma of patients. Furthermore, LL-37 levels were negatively correlated with thrombin time but positively correlated with fibrinogen level. In addition to platelet activation, cathelicidin peptides enhanced the activity of coagulation factors, such as factor Xa (FXa) and thrombin, which may induce hypercoagulation in diseases with high cathelicidin peptide levels. Injection of cathelicidin peptides promoted the formation of thrombosis, whereas deletion of cathelicidin inhibited thrombosis in vivo. These results suggest that cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide LL-37 is elevated during SARS-CoV-2 infection, which may induce hypercoagulation in COVID-19 patients by activating coagulation factors. Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Increasing evidence indicates that ischemic stroke is a thromboinflammatory disease in which the contact–kinin pathway has a central role by activating pro-coagulant and pro-inflammatory processes. The blocking of distinct members of the contact–kinin pathway is a promising strategy to control ischemic stroke. Here, a plasma kallikrein and active FXII (FXIIa) inhibitor (sylvestin, contained 43 amino acids, with a molecular weight of 4790.4 Da) was first identified from forest leeches (Haemadipsa sylvestris). Testing revealed that sylvestin prolonged activated partial thromboplastin time without affecting prothrombin time. Thromboelastography and clot retraction assays further showed that it extended clotting time in whole blood and inhibited clot retraction in platelet-rich plasma. In addition, sylvestin prevented thrombosis in vivo in FeCl3-induced arterial and carrageenan-induced tail thrombosis models. The potential role of sylvestin in ischemic stroke was evaluated by transient and permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion models. Sylvestin administration profoundly protected mice from ischemic stroke by counteracting intracerebral thrombosis and inflammation. Importantly, sylvestin showed no signs of bleeding tendency. The present study identifies sylvestin is a promising contact–kinin pathway inhibitor that can proffer profound protection from ischemic stroke without increased risk of bleeding. Primary pituitary lymphoma in immunocompetent patients is an exceedingly rare clinical entity. We report the case of a 41-year-old woman with initial polydipsia and polyuria. When laboratory evaluation revealed panhypopituitarism, a pituitary enhanced MRI was performed and was suggestive of a pituitary adenoma. Obstructive hydrocephalus provoked by enlarged sellar mass was also demonstrated during observation, and a shunt procedure following lesion resection was carried out. Histopathological examination and immunophenotyping verified diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. No systemic disease was found on staging of the patient.
