Abstract Blockchain technology plays a significant role in new technology infrastructure and has a significant influence on artificial intelligence, big data, and 5 G, and its application has been extended to the Internet of Things, digital asset transactions, digital finance, and so on. In financial systems, it could improve the efficiency of data processing, reduce errors, and detect fraud. However, blockchain adoption could increase the stock price and induce manipulation opportunisms. Managers could also use this advantage to mask their performance and increase corporate default risk. Using the data of Chinese listed companies from 2001 to 2021, we investigate whether blockchain technology adoption could increase or decrease corporate default risk. Using the expected default risk model to estimate the risk, the results show that the default risk increases once the firm adopts blockchain technology, which indicates managerial opportunism behavior. The effect works in firms with CEO duality and higher power consolidation. And similar results are also shown in the dual-duty companies. The results are also robust in instrumental variable tests, difference-in-difference tests (DIDs), firm-fixed effect, placebo tests, and other robustness tests.

Abstract Innate immune cells have been acknowledged as trainable in recent years. While intestinal tuft cells are recognized for their crucial roles in the host defense against intestinal pathogens, there remains uncertainty regarding their trainability. Enterovirus 71 (EV71), a prevalent enterovirus that primarily infects children but rarely infects adults. At present, there is a significant expansion of intestinal tuft cells in the EV71-infected mouse model, which is associated with EV71-induced interleukin-25 (IL-25) production. Further, we found that IL-25 pre-treatment at 2 weeks old mouse enabled tuft cells to acquire immune memory. This was evidenced by the rapid expansion and stronger response of IL-25-trained tuft cells in response to EV71 infection at 6 weeks old, surpassing the reactivity of naïve tuft cells in mice without IL-25-trained progress. Interestingly, IL-25-trained intestinal tuft cells exhibit anti-enteroviral effect via producing a higher level of IL-25. Mechanically, IL-25 treatment upregulates spermidine/spermine acetyl-transferase enzyme (SAT1) expression, mediates intracellular polyamine deficiency, further inhibits enterovirus replication. In summary, tuft cells can be trained by IL-25, which supports faster and higher level IL-25 production in response to EV71 infection and further exhibits anti-enteroviral effect via SAT1-mediated intracellular polyamine deficiency. Given that IL-25 can be induced by multiple gut microbes during human growth and development, including shifts in gut flora abundance, which may partially explain the different susceptibility to enteroviral infections between adults and children.

Abstract People’s livelihood serves as the primary impetus driving all social activities. Faced with intense regional competition and stringent assessment, regional governments often resort to manipulating GDP figures. This study investigates the repercussions of such economic distortion on residents’ welfare. Our findings reveal a significant negative relationship between regional GDP manipulation and investment in livelihood improvements. This correlation is particularly pronounced during the initial phase of officials’ tenure and diminishes when officials serve in their hometowns. Moreover, we observe that the reduction in livelihood investment is exacerbated during periods of economic downturn. These conclusions contribute to the existing literature on regional GDP manipulation and livelihood investment, shedding light on the potential implications for residents’ welfare.

Abstract Buried pipeline systems are vulnerable to joint damage in earthquakes. Previous studies have shown that bellows joints are effective in increasing deformation capacity and reducing the axial force of the main pipeline. However, the effectiveness of bellows joints in enhancing the deformation capacity of the pipelines is affected by the location of the crossing fault and the soil at the site. This paper constructs and validates a finite element model of a buried steel pipeline connected by a bellows joint using ABAQUS to investigate this issue. The effects of fault location, soil properties, and internal pressure on the bellows joint connected pipelines were analyzed using a finite element model. The results indicate that the bellows joints exhibit the best energy dissipation and deformation enhancement when the fault passes directly through the joints. Bellows joints in soft soil are better at dissipating energy, reducing pipe deformation, and mitigating pipe damage compared to those in hard soils. The internal pressure is helpful to increase the mechanical properties of the pipelines. The findings can provide some guidance for pipeline design and mitigation strategies for ensuring the reliability and safety of buried pipeline systems in earthquake-prone areas.

Abstract In response to the covid-19 pandemic, the digital strategy of education has become a key pedagogical approach for higher engineering disciplines. In this complex environment, the outcome-oriented higher engineering discipline faces the challenge of educational equity in terms of curriculum design and learning outcome assessment for its online engineering practical courses. In order to solve this problem, this study develops a digital teaching assistant system to facilitate the reform of educational equity in higher engineering disciplines. The teaching and learning functions of the system aim to support the interaction between teachers and students in the teaching process and the visual display of learning outcomes, and its intelligent evaluation and analysis function is based on the multi-criterion group decision-making model of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) combined with t-test to realize the evaluation of course learning outcomes. The results show that the academic performance of this system is significantly better than that of other similar systems. The statistical results of the teacher-student satisfaction survey of the two systems show that the teacher-student interaction and multi-dimensional learning evaluation analysis report function provided by the system are the most highly recognized, and the system also has better educational equity in resource recommendation, interaction and collaboration, learning achievement display and learning achievement evaluation, etc. In addition, the system is more in line with the teaching characteristics of higher engineering disciplines, which can provide effective assistance for teachers of higher engineering disciplines to improve teaching plan and cultivate students’ disciplinary practicality, consequently creating favorable conditions for the establishment of teaching equity.

Abstract The global pandemic has dramatically reshaped public discourse, with social media emerging as a pivotal platform for these discussions. This study delves into evolving sentiments, emotions, and prevalent topics in online discussions spanning the years 2020, 2021, and 2022, drawing from a dataset of 2.65 million tweets from the Twitter Platform. A multifaceted approach that combines quantitative and qualitative methods are developed for dissecting evolving discourses, with a particular focus on the lens of nationalism. The quantitative part disassembling sentiment & emotion, topics, and Co-Occurrence Network yields a nuanced understanding of the textual content. A qualitative theoretical analysis named Evolving Discourse Framework Analysis are designed to unravel the textual discourse. Study results in the development of an adaptable framework. Findings expose nationalist orientations and the framing elements present within online public discourse, which are categorized into three distinct frames: ‘feeling,’ ‘identity,’ and ‘action.’ Importantly, the ‘feeling’ frame interconnects with the ‘identity’ frame, ultimately shaping responses within the ‘action’ frame. The frames shine a light on a complex and interconnected web of nationalist narratives that exist within the online sphere, subtly influencing public opinion and behavior. This study serves as a reminder that beneath the surface of seemingly unified global discourse, there exists a segmented world, ripe for further exploration and understanding.

Abstract Corrosion is one of the most common forms of damage to pressure pipes. CIPP liner can improve the mechanical properties of the pipe with corrosion. It is very important to study the mechanical response of corrosion pipes rehabilitated by CIPP liner. In this study, a three-dimensional finite element model of a pressure pipe rehabilitated with CIPP liner under the condition of circular corrosion is established, and the model is evaluated by using the experimental and analytical results. Afterward, the influence of each parameter on the stress and displacement of the liner is analyzed. Finally, the liner stress calculation equation is obtained based on 870 sets of data. The results show that the finite element results are in good agreement with the experimental and analytical results. The maximum stress of the liner first occurs at the center of the corroded circle, and as the corrosion diameter increases, the maximum stress gradually shifts to the edge. The maximum stress of the liner increases first and then tends to be stable with the increase of the corrosion diameter, and the friction coefficient has little effect on the liner stress.

Abstract Cerebral palsy (CP) is a prevalent neurological disorder that imposes a significant burden on children, families, and society worldwide. Recently, the RhoB p.S73F mutation was identified as a de novo mutation associated with CP. However, the mechanism by which the RhoB p.S73F mutation causes CP is currently unclear. In this study, rabbit models were generated to mimic the human RhoB p.S73F mutation using the SpG-BE4max system, and exhibited the typical symptoms of human CP, such as periventricular leukomalacia and spastic-dystonic diplegia. Further investigation revealed that the RhoB p.S73F mutation could activate ACAT1 through the LYN pathway, and the subsequently altered lipid levels may lead to neuronal and white matter damage resulting in the development of CP. This study presented the first mammalian model of genetic CP that accurately replicates the RhoB p.S73F mutation in humans, provided further insights between RhoB and lipid metabolism, and novel therapeutic targets for human CP.

Abstract This study delves into the perspectives of Chinese police academy undergraduate students concerning their education and career paths within police academies. Employing a qualitative research design, in-depth interviews were conducted with undergraduate students from a leading police academy in China. The focus of the interviews centered on unraveling the cognitive transitions experienced by undergraduate students during their academy tenure, encompassing their perceptions of the police community and adherence to rigorous police discipline. The analysis revealed a profound transformation in undergraduate students, evolving from high-school graduates into aspiring law enforcement officers, manifesting in both behavioral and psychological dimensions. Undergraduate students developed a strong sense of identity with the police community and embraced the principles of police discipline, aligning themselves closely with these foundational concepts. Notably, robust collectivism was observed among undergraduate students. While showcasing a high level of enthusiasm for academic pursuits, concerns regarding potential challenges in their future policing roles were also articulated. This exploration establishes connections with the Social Cognitive Career Theory, shedding light on the dynamic cognitive processes and identity development experienced by police academy undergraduate students as they navigate their educational and career trajectories.

Abstract Although protein subunit vaccines generally have acceptable safety profiles with precise antigenic content, limited immunogenicity can lead to unsatisfactory humoral and cellular immunity and the need for vaccine adjuvants and delivery system. Herein, we assess a vaccine adjuvant system comprising Quillaja Saponaria-21(QS-21) and cobalt porphyrin polymeric micelles that enabling the display of His-tagged antigen on its surface. The nanoscale micelles promote antigen uptake and dendritic cell activation to induce robust cytotoxic T lymphocyte response and germinal center formation. Using the recombinant protein antigens from influenza A and rabies virus, the micelle adjuvant system elicited robust antiviral responses and protected mice from lethal challenge. In addition, this system could be combined with other antigens to induce high titers of neutralizing antibodies in models of three highly pathogenic viral pathogens: Ebola virus, Marburg virus, and Nipah virus. Collectively, our results demonstrate this polymeric micelle adjuvant system can be used as a potent nanoplatform for developing antiviral vaccine countermeasures that promote humoral and cellular immunity.

Abstract This research focused on the relationships among 34 major airports in China, analyzing how these relationships are influenced by spatial dependence and heterogeneity. Using a spatial econometric model, it found that passenger traffic in China’s airports displays a mutually driven aggregation effect. Furthermore, the study revealed that the airport relationship changes from complementarity to competition as the geographic distance between them decreases. The study also classified the main airports in China into three hierarchical levels and found significant complementarity and competition among those within the hub-and-spoke network structure. Specifically, this study identified a complementary relationship among regional trunk and local branch airports, as-well-as significant competition among hub airports. Crucially, the study suggests that the absence of a hub airport weakens the collaborative interactions between different types of airports, emphasizing the critical importance of hub airports for the connectivity and operational efficiency of China’s airport network.

Abstract Based on conservation of resources theory and the work–home resources model, this study examines how and when narcissistic leadership influences employees’ change-oriented organizational citizenship behavior. A total of 363 employees from 61 teams across numerous enterprises based in central China were surveyed using a questionnaire. The study hypotheses were tested using structural equation modeling and Monte Carlo simulation analysis. The findings revealed that narcissistic leadership results in the development of a negative team climate, termed “team chaxu climate,” which, in turn, hinders employees’ change-oriented organizational citizenship behavior. Furthermore, this study explored the moderating role of leaders’ family affective support in the relationship between narcissistic leadership and team chaxu climate. This study contributes to our understanding of the relationship between narcissistic leadership and employee organizational citizenship behavior and empirically validates the work–home resources model.

Abstract Urban parkland, as a critical component of urban green space, reflects the distribution of public resources. Combined with the concept of the 15-min Living Circle, this paper comprehensively evaluated the equity of urban parkland in the Central Area of Zhengzhou from a process-outcome perspective and established an evaluation method for assessing the equity of parkland in high-density urban areas. The objective of this approach is to provide a systematic and applicable evaluation method for metropolises that is more comprehensive than traditional evaluation methods, which rely solely on accessibility. In terms of process equity, spatial equity values were calculated using the Three Step Catchment Area Method (3SFCA) with walking and bicycle travel models. For outcome equity, Zone Entropy was utilized with demographic characteristics. The results illustrated that the overall accessibility and equity of urban parkland layout in the Central Area of Zhengzhou were inferior, with an extensive number of blind service areas and serious polarization. The Zone Entropy varied considerably among streets, which indicated significant differences in the allocation of parkland and population. Further analysis illustrated that economic factors, such as house prices, were not significantly relevant to parkland equity. Instead, geographic factors such as location and intensity of development had a remarkable impact on parkland equity. Although urban parkland layout has been prone to the elderly, the total number of park spaces is still insufficient. In the long run, the construction of the 15-min Living Circle still needs to be vigorously promoted in the research area.

Abstract Accurately predicting and selecting patients who can benefit from targeted or immunotherapy is crucial for precision therapy. Trophoblast cell surface antigen 2 (Trop2) has been extensively investigated as a pan-cancer biomarker expressed in various tumours and plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis through multiple signalling pathways. Our laboratory successfully developed two 68Ga-labelled nanobody tracers that can rapidly and specifically target Trop2. Of the two tracers, [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-T4, demonstrated excellent pharmacokinetics in preclinical mouse models and a beagle dog. Moreover, [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-T4 immuno-positron emission tomography (immunoPET) allowed noninvasive visualisation of Trop2 heterogeneous and differential expression in preclinical solid tumour models and ten patients with solid tumours. [68Ga]Ga-NOTA-T4 immunoPET could facilitate clinical decision-making through patient stratification and response monitoring during Trop2-targeted therapies.

Abstract Corporate social responsibility (CSR) could be an effective risk-alleviating tool for companies. However, an important issue is whether CSR plays a risk-alleviating role in large negative shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study investigated the impact of corporate social responsibility on stock performance in China during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the differing effects of strategic and responsive CSR. By analysing daily data on newly confirmed COVID-19 cases and the stock performance of A-share listed companies during the lockdown period in 2020, we find that CSR can significantly mitigate the negative effects of the pandemic on stock returns and recovery. Specifically, responsive CSR has a significant short-term moderating effect, whereas strategic CSR has a significant long-term moderating effect. The moderating effects of CSR are more pronounced among non-state-owned firms, firms with lower financial leverage, and large companies. These findings suggest that companies can reduce short- and long-term risks by strategically using responsive and strategic CSR in response to negative shocks in global economies.

Abstract This study explores the internal logic and influence mechanism of government-provided vocational skills training (GPVST) and migrant workers’ income level (IL) and income satisfaction (IS) using propensity score matching with difference-in-differences (PSM–DID), and it utilizes panel data collected by China Labor-force Dynamic Survey (CLDS) in 2016 and 2018. The study indicates that participation in GPVST positively affects the IL and IS of migrant workers; further analysis reveals that GPVST is more capable of raising the foreign migrant workers’ IL, and that the positive effect on the IS pertaining to the older generation of migrant workers and local migrant workers is more significant. Mechanism analysis reveals that GPVST can indirectly enhance the IL and IS of migrant workers by increasing the skill-enhancing effect exerted by human capital, information-interaction effect exerted by social capital, and trickle-down effect exerted by financial capital; however, generally, the indirect effect of livelihood capital is stronger in the impact of GPVST on the IL, whereas the direct effect is stronger in the impact of GPVST on IS. The findings herein exhibit crucial practical value for strengthening GPVST and enhancing the livelihood capital and income of migrant workers.

Abstract This study investigates the impact of strategic human resource management (SHRM) on fostering green innovation and enhancing environmental performance among employees in the Asia-Pacific region. In the context of intensifying competition in the industrial sector, it is essential to understand how SHRM influences employees’ innovative capabilities and their alignment with environmental goals. Our research suggests that effective SHRM strategies can significantly increase self-efficacy and stimulate green innovation, thus reinforcing the alignment between individual and organizational environmental objectives. To empirically test these hypotheses, we conducted a survey of 487 employees and used Smart-PLS 4.0 for structural equation modeling. This method allowed us to examine both the mediating and moderating effects within our model. The results indicate that self-efficacy mediates the relationship between SHRM practices and green innovation, while person-organization fit significantly moderates the relationship between green innovation and environmental performance. This study offers novel insights into how SHRM can promote environmental consciousness and innovation within organizations. By underscoring the roles of self-efficacy and person-organization fit, our research enriches the broader scholarly dialog on strategic human resource management and its environmental implications.

Abstract This article adds a critical lens to the vicissitudinous public remembrance of the comfort women in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the oscillating representations of comfort women in Chinese documentary films. First, it probes how the violated bodies of comfort women on the screen constantly challenge and disrupt the entrenched gender norms in the interstices of the PRC’s official paradigms of “national humiliation” and “national greatness.” Then, it examines the distinctive film esthetics and documentary ethics of Chinese director Guo Ke’s documentary films Thirty Two (2014) and Twenty Two (2017), given that the latter harvested record-breaking box office sales and incited heated online discussions of the comfort women issue in China. In particular, this article scrutinizes how Guo’s esthetically appealing, politically non-confrontational, and ethically provocative approach helps constitute survivors’ private, gendered memories and encourages the viewers to contemplate his minimalist narratives. In a broader sense, this article contributes to the discussions of gender, nationalism, war remembrance, and documentary filmmaking in contemporary China.

Abstract Land is an increasingly scarce resource that plays a critical role in achieving many Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Land scarcity, namely the imbalance state between cropland availability and demand, can be mitigated by the trade of agricultural products, but how effective it is remains unclear. Here, by integrating grid-level data on cropland into multi-regional input–output analysis, this paper accounts for the scarce land footprint and virtual scarce land flows within China at a 1 km × 1 km resolution. Results show that over 70% of China’s land footprint and scarce land footprint can be attributed to less than 20% of the land, and nearly 38% of the land footprint and scarce land footprint hotspot clusters are found to cross provinces. Generally, while virtual land trade mitigates the land scarcity of land-importing provinces by 50.8%, it disproportionately aggravates the land scarcity of land-exporting provinces by 119.8%. These findings challenge the dominant thinking about food trading and call for new policies to improve land resources management and promote collaborative governance across administrative boundaries. Our study also highlights the critical importance of considering land scarcity, shedding lights on how it may be integrated into environmental footprints to better assist the SDG framework.

Abstract The collaborations between industry, university, and research institutes have become more relevant with the trend of knowledge commercialization, while whether there exists a “superstar” in R&D alliance networks, who played a key role in the diffusion and transfer of technology and knowledge, remains unexplored. Based on R&D activities information of joint patents in China, this study applied two-mode network analysis to understand the R&D alliance network of the industry-university-research institute (IUR) collaboration. Three types of networks, collaboration networks, knowledge networks, and inter-organizational technology networks among IUR are developed, and their evolution process is analyzed at different levels, including overall structure, individual characteristics, and temporal evolution among IUR. The results show that no permanent superstar is being the dominant position. Distinct modes have been emerging in different periods: in the formation period, the mode is U-R, I-U, U, R, I; in the growth period, the mode is I-R, I-U, I-U-R; in the mature period, the mode is I-U-R. In addition, different technology classes were aggregated in different periods. This paper attempts to provide countermeasures and recommendations for enterprises, universities, and research institutions to enable the success of their collaborations.

Abstract Under the fiscal decentralization of government environmental management, this paper investigates the relationship between local environmental protection expenditure (LEPE) and CO2 ecological footprint (CEF). Unlike conventional emissions-based greenhouse gas metrics, this research calculates per capita CEF for 253 Chinese cities, considering both carbon emissions and absorption. The dynamic spatial Durbin model demonstrates that LEPE not only reduces a city’s own CEF but also exerts a long-term influence on neighboring cities, signifying competitive dynamics among local governments in LEPE. This decentraliztion of environmental budget authority may yield adverse outcomes. Further analysis reveals an inverted U-shaped relationship between CEF and LEPE intensity, partly mirroring the environmental Kuznets curve. Different developmental stages should consider economic levels when allocating resources to environmental budgets. The low-carbon pilot policy strengthens LEPE, with varying effects across Chinese urban agglomerations, remaining consistent post-environmental protection tax introduction. These findings hold critical reference value for local policymakers aiming to collaboratively adjust market-oriented environmental policies.

Abstract The heterogeneous market hypothesis states that there are different types of investors with different investment term-structures in the stock market. Based on the hypothesis, we analyze the trading strategies of moving averages with different term structures, and we find that the trading strategies formed by the 1-month short-term moving average with 3-, 6-, 9-, 12-, 18-, and 24-month long-term moving averages can gain significant excess returns in the Chinese market. Accordingly, this paper adopts the moving average factor formed by the method of Liu’s to expand the current four-factor pricing model of the Chinese market. The results of spanning regression show that the introduction of the short-term average with a period of 1-month and the long-term moving average with a period of 3- and 12-month can significantly improve the pricing power. The GRS test developed by Gibbons et al. (1989) also shows that the augmented six-factor model with moving average factors can pass the test at the significance level of 5%, and the average absolute value of intercept terms decreases by about 50% compared with the results of the four-factor model. At the same time, under different macro-state dependence, the overall performance of the augmented six-factor model with moving averages is still better than that of the four-factor pricing model proposed by Liu et al.’s. Our main contribution is to introduce double moving average factors to capture the behaviors of investors’ different term structures and add these factors to the most competitive asset pricing model for enhancing the pricing power. It is of great significance to supplement the pricing model in the Chinese market.

Abstract Hydrology education for hydrological professionals is an important field due to the complex and multifaceted water issues that hydrologists face. Currently, hydrology education at Chinese universities is mainly focused on hydrological engineering, which leads to inadequate scientific and professional training from the perspective of an interdisciplinary educational framework. In this context, the knowledge and skills of future hydrologists cannot be systematically prepared. In this study, we explore the challenges and constraints that hinder the advancement of hydrology education at Chinese universities by conducting an inductive analysis in which we compare the hydrology education that occurs in China with that of the United States. The result suggests that a lack of adequate financial support is the main constraint and that it leads to inevitable problems such as a high student-teacher ratio, insufficiently qualified educators, and poor teaching materials and equipment. To address this issue, financial support for this program should be increased. In addition, collaborative programs based on online learning can effectively resolve the inadequacy of teaching resources. Assessing the hydrological education system in American universities carries a certain significance for Chinese universities in creating a reasonable interdisciplinary hydrological educational system by emulating traditional engineering hydrological education.

Abstract Although the global COVID-19 pandemic has drawn public attention to the ecology of teachers’ work, little is known about how external and internal factors interact and affect early childhood teachers’ job satisfaction and self-efficacy. The purpose of this study is to examine how the external ecology of kindergartens and individual personality traits affect the job satisfaction and self-efficacy of in-service early childhood teachers in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era through a self-reporting questionnaire distributed among 237 kindergarten teachers in online and offline learning community groups. It was found that the job satisfaction of early childhood teachers was a significant predictor of self-efficacy and played a partially mediating role between personality traits and self-efficacy. Furthermore, personality traits are considered significant predictors of job satisfaction and self-efficacy in Chinese early childhood teachers, and it was noted that these teachers were the least satisfied in terms of pay and promotion. With these findings, this study contributes to the job satisfaction and self-efficacy literature by validating their causal associations in the field of early childhood teachers. Our findings also provide guidelines for practitioners and policymakers in promoting early childhood teacher credentialing and external social support to enhance job satisfaction and self-efficacy. The unique value of this study lies in the clarification of how the work environment and ecology of early childhood teachers in the post-COVID-19 pandemic era influenced self-efficacy and of personality traits being the underlying attributions that led to this result.

Abstract The cruise market has significant potential for family travel as birth rates continue to decline. To explore the reasons behind family cruise travel, passenger needs, and the three stages of cruise travel experience (anticipation, participation, and recall), this study employs qualitative research and in-depth survey methods. The study’s findings indicate that motivations for joining family cruise travel include "new experiences," "desire for cruise travel," "convenience," and "generating social topics/publicity." During the anticipation and recall stages, the most significant factors are the "port of call" and the "destination" of the cruise itinerary. Additionally, other important aspects include the dining options on the cruise. In the participation stage, the study reveals that cabins, entertainment, and special considerations for children hold particular significance. These results can provide valuable guidance in the planning of family cruise travel.

Abstract This study has developed a new method to valuate intellectual property for pledge financing. First, based on interval theory and the relevant calculation rules, the income interval model is and then used to calculate the interval values of intellectual property. Second, based on the change structure of risk indicators, the AHP and set-valued statistics are utilized to calculate the risk adjustment coefficient. Third, the point value of intellectual property is calculated with its values at an interval scale and risk adjustment coefficient. The values of intellectual property at an interval scale provide the two parties negotiating pledge financing with a reference range of loan amounts. The risk adjustment coefficient becomes a crucial indicator for measuring value evaluation risk. The point value of intellectual property specifies how much the bank loan amount can deviate from the values of intellectual property at an interval scale. The method creates a multi-indicator system to valuate intellectual property for pledge financing, which lowers the risk of intellectual property pledge financing to a significant extent and facilitates its operation. Moreover, the method has been proven to be efficient in practice.

Abstract Trust is an important social capital and informal institution that influences transaction behaviors, especially in the second-hand housing market of China. This study analyzes the second-hand housing transactions of 17 cities and matches the birthplaces of these traders with CESS2000 to measure the degree of trust in each transaction. Then we use the combined dataset to examine the impact of the degree of trust on the bargaining power during the negotiation process. The empirical results indicate that there is a significant positive correlation between the degree of trust and negotiation rate, and buyers are more likely to capture trust premium. Moreover, “youth capital” emphasizes the role of trust in price bargaining during the second-hand housing transactions. Local advantage has a substitution effect on trust, which means it is an alternative explanation of trust affecting price bargaining during the second-hand housing transactions. Furthermore, the impact of trust varies by gender with male traders being more affected than female traders. All in all, this study provides practical implications of trust premium in housing transactions, and policy implications of establishing a social credit system. Governments can reduce transaction friction and transaction costs by establishing an appropriate formal institution, such as a personal credit database. As research on trust premium affecting micro-behaviors in the housing market is scarce, this study aims to fill this gap.

Abstract The higher education system refers to the organisational structure of higher education institutions and the staff and infrastructure needed to provide postsecondary education. To better develop a country or region’s higher education system, administrators need to have a handle on the current state of the system, which requires regular and realistic assessments of the quality and sustainability of higher education. Thus, this study constructed a quality-sustainability model (QSM) for national higher education. Nine countries with developed higher education and 13 indicators were selected to reference higher education quality and sustainability globally. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to downgrade these 13 indicators and extract the factor coefficient score matrixes. Of these, four principal components were used for further analysis. Each sub-indicator is assigned weights by the entropy weighting method (EWM) to obtain a quantifiable QSM. The model innovatively includes indicators such as “academic integrity” and is applied experimentally to data from nine countries to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of their higher education systems. The study found that each country’s education system has different strengths, and by comparing and summarising them, the findings can guide the development of future-oriented higher education. This study has made some development recommendations based on the model by combining multidisciplinary theories. The study enriches existing methods for assessing the quality of higher education and identifies the weaknesses and directions for the development of higher education in some developed countries.

Abstract The emotional experience of the driver is influenced by the design of the in-vehicle interaction interface. User experience journey maps are commonly used by designers to reveal interface design pain points and refine user needs, and further studies are required to effectively characterize and quantify user emotional needs. This study provides a method for accurately presenting a driver’s emotional experience through a human–machine interface using Kansei engineering and user experience journey. Firstly, the semantic difference approach was used to match the relationship between user behavioral touchpoints and Kansei imagery words of the interface. And then the emotional quantification curve was built to generate an average value for Kansei imagery word evaluation. Finally, design pain points were identified and iterative design was carried out. A validation study was implemented to ensure the method’s validity. The study demonstrated that a quantitative map of user emotional experience could efficiently quantify and depict the findings of emotional quantification. This method enables designers to accurately recognize user needs while also facilitating product iterations.

Abstract As an important supplement to “location space”, “flow space” has become an important trend in urban network research. At present, the theoretical basis and empirical research of urban network structure from the perspective of “flow space” are not completely clear. Based on the urban spatial network structure research system framework, this paper comprehensively studies the urban spatial structure, spatial network pattern and development mode of Liaoning Province in China by using multivariate data flow. The results show that: (1) Cities at all levels in Liaoning Province have different functions and roles in the urban network level, with Shenyang and Dalian as the leading cities, and Anshan and Jinzhou as “transit hubs”; (2) Liaoning Province takes Shenyang-Dalian as its main axis, the Shenyang economic circle with Shenyang as the core and the coastal economic belt with Dalian as the core and Dandong and Yingkou as the two wings intersect to form the urban spatial network pattern; (3) In the future, Liaoning Province should further form the urban development model of “core city-axis-cluster”. Under the trend of globalization, it should carry out in-depth promotion in combination with “Shenyang Modern Metropolitan Circle” “Liaoning Coastal Economic Belt” and “Liaoning Northwest Strategy”, and finally form a balanced, efficient and comprehensive urban network structure.

Abstract Endothelial dysfunction (ED) is critical in the development and progression of cardiovascular (CV) disorders, yet effective therapeutic targets for ED remain elusive due to limited understanding of its underlying molecular mechanisms. To address this gap, we employed a systems biology approach to identify potential targets for ED. Our study combined multi omics data integration, with siRNA screening, high content imaging and network analysis to prioritise key ED genes and identify a pro‐ and anti‐ED network. We found 26 genes that, upon silencing, exacerbated the ED phenotypes tested, and network propagation identified a pro‐ED network enriched in functions associated with inflammatory responses. Conversely, 31 genes ameliorated ED phenotypes, pointing to potential ED targets, and the respective anti‐ED network was enriched in hypoxia, angiogenesis and cancer‐related processes. An independent screen with 17 drugs found general agreement with the trends from our siRNA screen and further highlighted DUSP1, IL6 and CCL2 as potential candidates for targeting ED. Overall, our results demonstrate the potential of integrated system biology approaches in discovering disease‐specific candidate drug targets for endothelial dysfunction.

Abstract Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a leading genetic cause of infant mortality. The advent of approved treatments for this devastating condition has significantly changed SMA patients' life expectancy and quality of life. Nevertheless, these are not without limitations, and research efforts are underway to develop new approaches for improved and long‐lasting benefits for patients. Protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) are emerging as druggable epigenetic targets, with several small‐molecule PRMT inhibitors already in clinical trials. From a screen of epigenetic molecules, we have identified MS023, a potent and selective type I PRMT inhibitor able to promote SMN2 exon 7 inclusion in preclinical SMA models. Treatment of SMA mice with MS023 results in amelioration of the disease phenotype, with strong synergistic amplification of the positive effect when delivered in combination with the antisense oligonucleotide nusinersen. Moreover, transcriptomic analysis revealed that MS023 treatment has minimal off‐target effects, and the added benefit is mainly due to targeting neuroinflammation. Our study warrants further clinical investigation of PRMT inhibition both as a stand‐alone and add‐on therapy for SMA.

Abstract There is an increasing worldwide trend toward the development of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education using engineering design (ED) practice. Considering that teachers play pivotal roles in terms of student interest in STEM subjects and careers, it is important to explore teachers’ perceptions of STEM-ED education. We analysed survey data from 184 technology teachers who participated in empowerment training (using a STEM-ED curriculum) in 2017, 2018, 2021, and 2022. We used an importance-performance analytical model to investigate the teachers’ perceptions of STEM-ED itself, its impact on students, and the challenges experienced during implementation. The results showed that various improvements were required for STEM-ED promotion and for the preparation of STEM-ED lessons. Analysis of variance revealed that the age groups taught and the number of weekly teaching hours significantly affected the teachers’ perceptions of STEM-ED. These findings will assist educational institutions worldwide in planning future education policies, designing teacher empowerment courses, and understanding teachers’ needs in efforts to improve STEM-ED.

Prior research show that relative deprivation can decrease individuals' psychological well-being. However, the underlying mechanism between relative deprivation and psychological well-being remains unclear. To explore the mediating effects of self-efficacy and self-control on the relationship between relative deprivation and psychological well-being. 426 undergraduate students submitted the online survey that assessed their psychological well-being, relative deprivation, self-efficacy and self-control. Students experienced high levels of psychological well-being, moderate to high levels of relative deprivation and moderate levels of self-efficacy and self-control. Parallel mediators of self-efficacy and self-control on the relationship between relative deprivation and psychological well-being were significant (each p < 0.01). This study explores the underlying mechanism between relative deprivation and psychological well-being by identifying the parallel mediators of self-efficacy and self-control. Effective interventions should be taken to alleviate students' relative deprivation and promote their self-efficacy, self-control and psychological well-being during future pandemics. This paper presents the preparation and performance evaluation of two closed-loop nickel-based catalysts. The (hydro)oxide coatings of nickel-molybdenum and nickel-iron were electrodeposited onto industrial nickel meshes, which were subsequently used as the cathode and anode (NiMo@NM and NiFe@NM) in alkaline water electrolysis. Both catalysts formed a fully closed-loop configuration, surrounding each nickel wire on the nickel mesh, thereby enhancing the bonding strength with the substrate. The NiMo@NM||NiFe@NM assembly achieved a current density of 200 mA cm−2 at a cell voltage of only 1.91 V and room temperature, maintaining this level of performance for over 280 h. A single-stack flow cell was used to examine the changes in cell voltage in relation to temperature, current density, and electrolyte flow rate and concentration. The specific energy consumption for hydrogen production can be reduced to 4.1 kWh Nm−3 (H2) under near-industrial conditions (70 °C, 6 M KOH, 400 mA cm−2). Golden cuttlefish play a significant role in the food web of the East and Yellow Seas and are a valuable fishery resource in Chinese coastal waters. Samples of golden cuttlefish were obtained from the northern East China Sea between September 2021 and March 2022, and stable isotope methods were utilized in this study to examine the variations in the forage ecology of golden cuttlefish. Our findings reveal dynamic shifts in carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N), highlighting intricate foraging strategies tailored to growth and environmental changes. A notable trend emerges: an initial growth-linked rise in δ13C and δ15N enrichment, followed by seasonal fluctuations mirroring seasonal food availability. The ontogenetic niche evolution displays striking habitat shifts and trophic level escalation in small mantle length stages, transitioning to niche overlap and subtle trophic shifts later on. Sex-specific differences emerge, with females occupying higher trophic levels than males in most samples. This comprehensive study underscores the complexity and adaptability of golden cuttlefish feeding ecology, inviting further inquiry into their intricate relationships within the marine ecosystem. Pembrolizumab induced hepatitis has received increasing attention, while pembrolizumab induced cholangitis is poorly understood. This study investigated the clinical features, treatment, and outcome of pembrolizumab induced cholangitis. Case reports, case series and clinical studies of pembrolizumab induced cholangitis were collected by retrieving English and Chinese database from inception until October 30, 2023. Fifty patients with cholecystitis entered our study with a median age of 68 years (range 48, 89). The median time to onset of cholecystitis was 1.1 months (range 0.3, 24), and the median number of cycles was 5 cycles (range 1, 27) after initial administration. Most of the patients had no clinical symptoms and only showed elevated biliary enzymes (24 cases, 48.0%), while some patients showed jaundice (12 cases, 24.0%), abdominal pain (10 cases, 20.0%) and fever (7 cases, 14.0%). The median alkaline phosphatase value was 1111 IU(range 130, 3515) and the median glutamyltransferase value was 649.5 IU(range 159, 3475). The imaging features of gallbladder were bile duct dilatation, stenosis and bile duct wall thickening and irregularity. Bile duct biopsy showed inflammatory infiltration, mainly CD8 + T cell infiltration. Immunosuppression treatment resulted in complete response in 4 cases (8.0%), partial response in 28 cases (56.0%), and poor response in 15 cases (30.0%). Cholangitis is a rare and serious adverse effect of pembrolizumab. Clinicians should be aware of the possibility of cholangitis when administering pembrolizumab. Steroids may not be effective in most patients with cholecystitis, and ursodeoxycholic acid may be an option. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) is a rare but severe form of psoriasis. However, the pathogenesis of GPP has not been fully elucidated. Although RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and the alternative splicing (AS) process are essential for regulating post-transcriptional gene expression, their roles in GPP are still unclear. We aimed to elucidate the regulatory mechanisms to identify potential new therapeutic targets. Here, We analyzed an RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) dataset (GSE200977) of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of 24 patients with GPP, psoriasis vulgaris (PV), and healthy controls (HCs) from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. We found that the abnormal alternative splicing (AS) events associated with GPP were mainly “alt3p/alt5p”, and 15 AS genes were differentially expressed. Notably, the proportions of different immune cell types were correlated with the expression levels of regulatory alternatively spliced genes (RASGs): significant differences were observed in expression levels of DTD2, NDUFAF3, NBPF15, and FBLN7 in B cells and ARFIP1, IPO11, and RP11-326L24.9 in neutrophils in the GPP samples. Furthermore, We identified 32 differentially expressed RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) (18 up-regulated and 14 down-regulated). Co-expression networks between 14 pairs of differentially expressed RBPs and RASGs were subsequently constructed, demonstrating that these differentially expressed RBPs may affect the progression of GPP by regulating the AS of downstream immune/inflammatory-related genes such as LINC00989, ENC1 and MMP25-AS1. Background: Studies have shown that hepatitis B virus (HBV)-associated B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) constitutes a unique subgroup with distinct clinical features. It still leaves open the question of whether the integration of HBV DNA into the B-cell genome is a causal mechanism in the development of lymphoma. Methods: Using the hybridisation capture-based next generation sequencing and RNA sequencing, we characterised the HBV integration pattern in 45 HBV-associated B-cell NHL tumour tissues. Results: A total of 354 HBV integration sites were identified in 13 (28.9%) samples, indicating the relatively low integration frequency in B-cell NHLs. High plasma HBV DNA loads were not associated with the existence of HBV integration. The insertion sites distributed randomly across all the lymphoma genome without any preferential hotspot neither at the chromosomal level nor at the genetic level. Intriguingly, most HBV integrations were nonclonal in B-cell NHLs, implying that they did not confer a survival advantage. Analysis of the paired diagnosis-relapse samples showed the unstable status of HBV integrations during disease progression. Furthermore, transcriptomic analysis revealed the limited biological impact of HBV integration. Conclusion: Our study provides an unbiased HBV integration map in B-cell NHLs, revealing the insignificant role of HBV DNA integration in B-cell lymphomagenesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The prognosis of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer is usually poor. In this study, a combined model based on pre-treatment CT radiomics and clinical features was constructed to predict the OS of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer after chemotherapy with immunotherapy.Clinical data of 111 patients with extensive stage small-cell lung cancer who received first-line immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy in our hospital from December 2019 to December 2021 were retrospectively collected. Finally, 93 patients were selected for inclusion in the study, and CT images were obtained through PACS system before treatment. All patients were randomly divided into a training set (n = 66) and a validation set (n = 27). Images were imported into ITK-SNAP to outline areas of interest, and Python software was used to extract radiomics features. A total of 1781 radiomics features were extracted from each patient’s images. The feature dimensions were reduced by MRMR and LASSO methods, and the radiomics features with the greatest predictive value were screened. The weight coefficient of radiomics features was calculated, and the linear combination of the feature parameters and the weight coefficient was used to calculate Radscore. Univariate cox regression analysis was used to screen out the factors significantly associated with prognosis from the radiomics and clinical features, and multivariate cox regression analysis was performed to establish the prognosis prediction model of extensive stage small cell lung cancer. The degree of metastases was selected as a significant clinical prognostic factor by univariate cox regression analysis. Seven radiomics features with significance were selected by LASSO-COX regression analysis, and the Radscore was calculated according to the coefficient of the radiomics features. An alignment diagram survival prediction model was constructed by combining Radscore with the number of metastatic lesions. The study population was stratified into those who survived less than 11 months, and those with a greater than 11 month survival. The C-index was 0.722 (se = 0.044) and 0.68(se = 0.074) in the training and the validation sets, respectively. The Log_rank test results of the combination model were as follows: training set: p < 0.0001, validation set: p = 0.00042. In this study, a combined model based on radiomics and clinical features could predict OS in patients with extensive stage small cell lung cancer after chemotherapy with immunotherapy, which could help guide clinical treatment strategies. Online trolling, an emerging and rapidly developing form of anti-social behavior characterized by inciting and disrupting online activities to cause controversy and conflict, has a detrimental impact on both online participants and the online environment. This study aimed to investigate the association between parental phubbing (parents ignoring children by focusing on their mobile phones) and online trolling among early adolescents. Additionally, it explored the mediating role of alexithymia (difficulty in identifying and expressing emotions) and the moderating role of online disinhibition (reduced self-regulation in the online environment) in this relationship. A total of 1073 Chinese early adolescents were recruited to complete scales assessing parental phubbing, alexithymia, online disinhibition, and online trolling. After controlling for gender and age, the results showed that parental phubbing was positively correlated with online trolling in Chinese early adolescents, and alexithymia mediated this relationship. Furthermore, online disinhibition moderated the relationship between parental phubbing and online trolling, as well as the relationship between alexithymia and online trolling. Specifically, both associations strengthened as the online disinhibition of early adolescents increased. Parents should reflect on negative interaction patterns with early adolescents to increase positive attention and reduce phubbing. Recent evidence has demonstrated that abnormal expression and regulation of circular RNA (circRNAs) are implicated in the development and progression of various tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of circ_SMA4 in Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GISTs) malignant progression. Human circRNAs microarray analysis was conducted to identify differentially expressed (DE) circRNAs in GISTs. The effect of circ_SMA4 on cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and apoptosis was assessed in both in vitro and in vivo settings. Dual-luciferase reporter assay, RT-qPCR, Western-blot, and rescue assay were employed to confirm the interaction between circ_SMA4/miR-494-3p/ KIT axis. The results revealed that circ_SMA4 was significantly upregulated in GISTs, and exhibited high diagnostic efficiency with an AUC of 0.9824 (P < 0.01). circ_SMA4 promoted cell proliferation, invasion, migration, while inhibiting apoptosis in GISTs cells, both in vitro and in vivo. Silencing circ_SMA4 partially inhibited GISTs malignant progression. Additionally, circ_SMA4 acted as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by targeting miR-494-3p, and KIT was identified as a functional gene for miR-494-3p in GISTs. Furthermore, the results confirmed that circ_SMA4/miR-494-3p/ KIT axis plays a role in activating the JAK/STAT signaling pathway in GISTs. Therefore, for the first time, we have identified and emphasized that circ_SMA4 is significantly upregulated and plays an oncogenic role in GISTs by sponging miR-494-3p to activate the KIT/JAK/STAT pathway. Molecular imaging holds the potential for noninvasive and accurate grading of liver fibrosis. It is limited by the lack of biomarkers that strongly correlate with liver fibrosis grade. Here, we discover the grading potential of fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAPα) for liver fibrosis through transcriptional analysis and biological assays on clinical liver samples. The protein and mRNA expression of FAPα are linearly correlated with fibrosis grade (R2 = 0.89 and 0.91, respectively). A FAPα-responsive MRI molecular nanoprobe is prepared for quantitatively grading liver fibrosis. The nanoprobe is composed of superparamagnetic amorphous iron nanoparticles (AFeNPs) and paramagnetic gadoteric acid (Gd-DOTA) connected by FAPα-responsive peptide chains (ASGPAGPA). As liver fibrosis worsens, the increased FAPα cut off more ASGPAGPA, restoring a higher T1-MRI signal of Gd-DOTA. Otherwise, the signal remains quenched due to the distance-dependent magnetic resonance tuning (MRET) effect between AFeNPs and Gd-DOTA. The nanoprobe identifies F1, F2, F3, and F4 fibrosis, with area under the curve of 99.8%, 66.7%, 70.4%, and 96.3% in patients' samples, respectively. This strategy exhibits potential in utilizing molecular imaging for the early detection and grading of liver fibrosis in the clinic. Molecular imaging holds promise for liver fibrosis grading but limited by a lack of effective biomarker. Titanium plates and screws are common material used for rigid bone flap fixation after retrosigmoid craniotomy such as microvascular decompression (MVD). We conducted this study to evaluate outcomes of the free bone flap cranioplasty without fixation in MVD and compared its postoperative complication rate with routine methods. We retrospectively reviewed all patients who underwent MVD at our institution from May 2017 to August 2022. Patients were divided into two groups according to whether the bone flap was fixed or not. Follow-ups periods spanned 6–28 months after the operation. Of 189 patients who underwent MVDs via retrosigmoid approach, 79 cases (42%) had their bone flaps replaced without titanium fixation after craniotomies (< 3 cm x 3 cm). Compared to fixed bone flap group, free bone flap group had shorter operative time (105.56 ± 15.87 min vs. 113.72 ± 17.80 min, P = 0.001), less in-patient costs (¥23059.66 ± 4488.54 vs. ¥27714.82 ± 2705.74, P < 0.001), and less proportion of postoperative headache and incisional pain (43.0% vs. 60.9%, P = 0.015). One case of incisional cerebrospinal fluid leak happened in free bone flap group while one case of incisional infection happened in fixed bone flap group. No statistical difference in bone flap displacement, duration of postoperative hospital stays or complication rate was found between the two groups. Nineteen patients in free bone flap group received long-term CT follow-up and all were proved to have good skull union. This study proves that free bone flap cranioplasty in MVD without titanium plate fixation can shorten the operation time and reduce hospitalization expenditure without increasing complication rates. Purpose: To provide an in-depth analysis of the association of peripheral lymphocytes and the disease activity of thyroid eye disease (TED). Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 65 active TED patients and 46 inactive TED patients. Comparative analyses of peripheral lymphocyte subsets were conducted between active and inactive patients. Subgroup analyses were performed based on sex, age, disease duration, and severity. Correlation analyses explored the associations between lymphocyte subsets and TED activity indicators. Prediction models for TED activity were established using objective indicators. Results: Significantly elevated levels of CD3+CD4+ T cells were observed in active TED patients compared to inactive patients (P = 0.010). Subgroup analyses further revealed that this disparity was most prominent in females (P = 0.036), patients aged 50 years and younger (P = 0.003), those with long-term disease duration (P = 0.022), and individuals with moderate-to-severe disease (P = 0.021), with age exerting the most substantial impact. Subsequent correlation analysis confirmed the positive association between CD3+CD4+ T cells and the magnetic resonance imaging indicator of TED activity among patients aged 50 years and younger (P = 0.038). The combined prediction models for TED activity, established using objective indicators including CD3+CD4+ T cells, yielded areas under curve of 0.786 for all patients and 0.816 for patients aged 50 years and younger. Conclusions: Peripheral CD3+CD4+ T cells are associated with disease activity of TED, especially in patients aged 50 years and younger. Objectives: To compare the facial asymmetry after bimaxillary surgery between mild craniofacial microsomia (CFM) and non-syndromic class II asymmetry. Materials and methods: Cone-beam computed tomography scans of adults with Pruzansky-Kaban types I and IIA CFM (CFM groups, n = 20), non-syndromic skeletal class II asymmetry (Class II group, n = 20), and normal controls (control group, n = 20) were compared. The area asymmetry of lower face and jaw bones was quantified. Landmark-based method was used to evaluate the lower facial asymmetry regarding midline, cants, and contour. Results: There were no significant postoperative differences in the hemi-facial and hemi-jaw area asymmetry between CFM and Class II groups, both of which were significantly larger than the control group. No significant difference was found in the midline deviation and lip and occlusal cants between CFM and Class II groups. The vertical contour asymmetry in CFM group became significantly larger than Class II group. Compared to the control group, the deviation of pronasale, subnasale, and soft-tissue menton, lip and occlusal cants, and sagittal and vertical contour asymmetry in CFM group were significantly larger, as were the deviation of subnasale and soft-tissue menton and vertical contour asymmetry in Class II group. Conclusions: The vertical contour asymmetry of mild CFM was significantly larger than non-CFM class II after surgery, while the area asymmetry, midline deviation, cants, and sagittal contour asymmetry of lower face showed no significant difference. Fatty acid-binding protein 4 (FABP4), a fatty acid transporter that coordinates lipid metabolism, is reported to exert a tumorigenic role in certain cancers. We investigated the effects of FABP4 in the carcinogenesis of thyroid cancer. Bioinformatics data about FABP4 in thyroid cancer were collected from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Sixteen paired papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) tissues from Taipei Medical University (TMU) were gathered, and commercial thyroid cancer complementary (c)DNA and tissue arrays were purchased to measure FABP4 messenger (m)RNA and protein levels. By analyzing data from the GEO and TCGA, we showed that FABP4 mRNA was reduced in PTC and follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC). In addition, a lower FABP4 mRNA level in PTC was associated with poor clinical parameters and outcomes in the TCGA database. Moreover, FABP4 transcripts and proteins were downregulated in PTC and FTC, and its mRNA expression was associated with PTC staging in clinical specimens. In the TCGA database and TMU cohort, FABP4 mRNA levels were associated with thyroglobulin (r = 0.511 and r = 0.656, respectively), thyroid peroxidase (r = 0.612 and r = 0.909, respectively), and sodium iodide symporter (r = 0.485 and r = 0.637, respectively) transcripts. In conclusion, FABP4 mRNA and protein levels were reduced in PTC and FTC, and may be used as a potential indicator for thyroid cancer evolution in clinical settings.
