Despite a growing body of literature focused on understanding experiences of workplace dignity, attention has centered almost exclusively on employees with lower-level jobs. As a result, little is known about how workplace dignity and indignity are experienced by employees with middle- and upper-level jobs and how their experiences differ from those with lower-level jobs. We address these absences by interviewing employees from a diversity of lower-, middle-, and upper-level jobs about their experiences of indignity at work. We outline common dignity threats, along with typical emotional responses and recourses employees use at each level. We find lower-level employees experience chronic dignity threats from being disrespected, devalued, demeaned, and dehumanized, to which their most typical response is endurance. Middle-level employees experience periodic dignity threats due to undermining of their work, confidence, and reputation. For them, the typical response is strategizing. Finally, on the rare occasions upper-level employees experience dignity threats, it usually is due to a disregard of their special expertise or denial of special rights, to which they respond by rising above. The rapid change in information technology has made online or blended learning a new norm in higher education. However, the problem of low student engagement in online learning is becoming more prominent. This study explores how college students' proactive personality affects their online learning engagement through the mediating effects of positive emotions and learning motivation. A survey was conducted on college students (N = 1049), and the interrelationships among these variables were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings unveiled that: proactive personality positively predicts online learning engagement, positive emotions and learning motivation. Positive emotions and learning motivation significantly positively influence online learning engagement. Moreover, Positive emotions also exert a significant positive impact on learning motivation. In addition, the mediation of positive emotions and learning motivation further strengthened a significant positive correlation between proactive personality and online learning engagement. Terrorism causes emotional reactions among public audiences, with downstream consequences for their well-being, attitudes and policy preferences. We utilise a novel approach which harnesses a unique dataset of Twitter activity from 324K users to precisely capture emotional responses to terrorism. Our results demonstrate that terrorist attacks induce dramatic spikes in various discrete emotions of a negative valence, which vary based on the characteristics of the attacks. Playing music is a complex task that relies on the combination of musicians' technical and expressive skills. While the literature has investigated the effects of musical expressivity on the listeners, the way how technical difficulty and emotional expressivity affect musicians during playing has surprisingly received no attention. In an attempt to fill this gap in the literature, we collected behavioral and physiological data from twelve violinists playing 29 pieces that included both technical exercises and excerpts from classical repertoire for violin. After playing each stimulus, participants rated it for emotional expressivity and technical difficulty. During the entire session, cardiac parameters and electrodermal activity were collected, together with the kinematic parameters of the bowing gesture. A set of Linear Mixed-Effect (LME) models suggested that emotional expressivity attributed to music affected the fluidity of bowing (i.e., smoothness), with the excerpts rated as more expressive being performed in a less smooth way. In contrast, LME models revealed no effects of expressivity and technical difficulty on any of the physiological parameters of violinists. Our results offer novel insights into the psychophysiological dynamics that link motor parameters with musical expressivity. In the current dynamic society, creativity stands as a crucial asset, empowering individuals to devise new and inventive solutions to navigate the shifts accompanying societal evolution. This trend significantly influences both the preparation of future educators and the ongoing professional growth of practicing teachers. It's essential to consider the connection between students' emotional experiences during the learning process to foster their creativity. The correlation between a person's emotional state and their creativity shows that both negative and positive emotions can influence creative expression. Furthermore, emotional intelligence (EI) is assumed to help prioritize thinking and manage emotions in different life situations, with the initial EI process being assessing and expressing of emotions. This study evaluates the emergence of emotions experienced by students in an academic context, focusing on action-research with Master's students (n = 10), who are future teachers for Secondary schools in Switzerland. Throughout the creative course, participants utilized a Creative Process Report Diary (CRD) to document the emotions they experienced while engaging in the diverse creative activities. The findings of this study indicate that participants predominantly encountered positive emotions during creative activities, such as enthusiasm and pleasure. Initial emotions sometimes leaned towards the negative spectrum, characterized by frustration or fear. However, as the creative activity unfolded, these emotions evolved into more positive ones, such as pleasure or interest. This study contributes to our understanding of the interplay between emotions and creativity and provides insights into how managing these emotions can foster a productive and creative learning environment for future teachers, even though emotional intelligence was not directly tested in this research. Contending with discrimination can yield a cascade of negative psychological and physiological outcomes which adversely affect health. How individuals manage their emotions in response to discrimination can influence the extent of these negative health outcomes. Research finds, however, that Black and Latine individuals are more likely to use expressive suppression (vs. cognitive reappraisal) in response to discrimination, which is associated with adverse mental health outcomes. In the present research, we explored whether self-control (the ability to manage impulses and regulate thoughts, emotions, and behavior to achieve long-term goals) and impression management emotion-regulation goals (regulating emotions to shape others' perceptions of one's personality and skills) could help explain the differential use of suppression and reappraisal in response to discrimination. Across two cross-sectional studies, we found that Black and Latine participants' everyday discrimination experiences were related to lower self-control and increased impression management emotion-regulation goals. Reduced self-control was, in turn, linked to less use of reappraisal, while impression management emotion-regulation goals were associated with both greater reappraisal and suppression use in response to discrimination. Reappraisal was also related to participants' self-reported depressive symptoms. According to the available studies, mobile applications have provided significant support in improving the diverse skills of special individuals with social pragmatic communication disorder (SPCD). Over the last decade, SPCD has affected 8 to 11% of individuals, and therapy sessions cost between $50 and $150 per hour. This preliminary study aims to develop an interactive, user-friendly intervention to enhance social and emotional interaction skills in individuals with SPCD. The proposed intervention is an Android application that enhances social and emotional interaction skills. This pilot study involved 29 human subjects aged 7–13 years with pragmatic communication deficits. In a randomized controlled trial, the intervention was developed and implemented with consideration of caregiver and professional requirements. The improvement was analyzed using standard scales, including the Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) and the Social Communication Disorder Scale (SCDS). Moreover, the outcomes were examined through statistical parameters (mean, standard deviation) and tests (t-test). The intervention significantly improved the social and emotional skills of individuals with deficits. Before using the intervention, the identified statistical values for SCQ (mean = 6.48 and standard deviation = 3.37) and SCDS (mean = 8.17 and standard deviation = 4.79). However, after using the intervention, values for SCQ (mean = 8.24 and standard deviation = 3.95) and SCDS (mean = 9.48 and standard deviation = 4.72) were improved in comparison to the before-intervention outcome. The evaluation of the t-scores and p-values indicates that there has been significant improvement in the performance of individuals after the successful completion of the intervention. The proposed and applied intervention resulted in a significant impact in terms of improvement in social and emotional skills. The study concluded that it allows individuals to practice social and emotional interaction skills in a structured, controlled, and interactive environment. The proposed intervention has been found acceptable as per the reviews of caregivers and professionals, based on essential criteria including user experience, usability, interactive nature, reliability, and creditability. Although bidirectional associations between parenting and adolescents' social and emotional outcomes have been investigated, how parental warmth and harsh parenting as two different parenting dimensions, adolescents' prosocial behaviors, and emotional problems were longitudinally and bidirectionally related at between- and within-person levels remains unclear. With a three-wave longitudinal design, the present study examined these associations by employing the random-intercept cross-lagged panel model. Data from 606 Chinese adolescents (Mage = 13.80 years, SD = 0.52, at T1; 45.7% girls) were collected at six-month intervals over one year, and participants completed questionnaires assessing their perception of parenting, prosocial behaviors, and emotional problems online. The results indicated that parental warmth and harsh parenting were significantly associated with adolescents' prosocial behaviors and emotional problems at the between-person level. At the within-person level, adolescents' more prosocial behaviors at T1 predicted later within-person decreases in their emotional problems at T2, which in turn predicted subsequent increased prosocial behaviors and more parental warmth at T3. Additionally, a higher level of harsh parenting at T2 unidirectionally predicted more adolescents' emotional problems at T3. These findings highlighted the developmental cascade processes among adolescents' prosocial behaviors, emotional problems, and parenting and the importance of fostering adolescents' prosocial behaviors in reducing their emotional problems and then promoting subsequent psychosocial adjustment and parent-child bonding. Human emotions are easy to identify through facial expressions, body movements, and gestures. Speech carries a lot of emotional cues including variations in pitch, tone, intensity, and rhythm. In recent years, the increasing demand for human–computer interaction has spurred the development of speech recognition methods. Traditional Speech emotion detection methods are less effective in recognizing emotions, considering features like pitch, intensity, and spectral characteristics. To address these issues, this paper proposed a novel method named Dual Kernel Support Vector based Levy Dung Beetle (DKSV-LDB) Algorithm to accurately identify emotions like happiness, anger, sadness, etc. from speech patterns. In this study, the model is designed by combining a Dual Kernel Support Vector Machine (SVM) method with a Dung beetle Optimization algorithm, enriched by the Levy Flight strategy. This work conducted experiments in the datasets namely the CREMA-D, TESS, and EMO-DB (German). The performance evaluation measures such as accuracy, precision, recall, F-measure, and specificity are utilized for the evaluation of the proposed DKSV-LDB method and these results are compared with existing methods. The DKSV-LDB method achieved accuracy, precision, recall, F-measure, and specificity of 98.57%, 97.91%, 97.86%, 97.84%, and 97.78%. Based on Folk theory, Media Equation, and AI literacy research, the study constructed an interview outline and selected 72 students in 4th and 5th grade in three primary schools located in the Minhang and Putuo districts of Shanghai (two in the Minhang district and one in the Putuo district) as the study participants for focus group interviews. The study found that the availability of voice interaction is an essential basis for children to judge the level of intelligence of a machine; additionally, chatting is also the starting point for young children to build a close relationship with AI. Although AI cannot replace their friends, it can become a friend to them. While children expect the future of AI to be beyond the current level of intelligence and emotion and to enable the full use of machines in multiple scenarios and various fields, they are also concerned about issues such as privacy breaches that devices may cause in the future and believe that technology should not develop outside of human control. Affective and cognitive processes may be jointly researched to better understand mathematics learning, paying special interest to emotions related to knowledge acquisition. However, it remains necessary to explore these processes in studies linked to the education of pre-service mathematics teachers. This study aims to characterize epistemic emotions in different practices linked to the practice of mathematics teaching: problem-solving, anticipating what would happen with the students and reflecting on classroom implementation. It considers the theory of Mathematical Working Spaces to describe the mathematical and cognitive dimensions generated by epistemic emotions, paying special attention to the cognition-affect interaction and the workspace created. The results indicate that the epistemic emotions of the pre-service mathematics teachers associated with the distinct practices were different. Differences are observed in the interaction between emotions and cognitive epistemic actions, depending on whether the pre-service mathematics teachers analyze them within the framework of their own solving or anticipate them in their students. This reveals how personal work relates to what is considered to be suitable for students. Specifically, certain antecedents and consequences have been specified for the emotions of surprise and boredom in relation to the characteristics of the optimization problems and the cognitive activity of the subject when solving them. These results highlight the need to enhance the education of pre-service mathematics teachers through training that helps regulate their epistemic emotions and model effective strategies for regulating their own emotions and those of their students. Individuals' emotions, such as hesitation and unwavering confidence, can influence the ability of decision-makers (DMs) to make rational judgments. The emotion is always hidden in individual preference series, which is referred to as emotion soft factors, It is a prerequisite for avoiding unfavorable impacts on consensus reaching process. This study focuses on structuring a consensus model with emotion soft factors in linguistic preference time sequence. Specifically, a personalized individual semantics (PIS) learning process is implemented to obtain the personalized numerical scales of DMs' linguistic terms. Subsequently, we propose a consensus model incorporating the consensus measurement and feedback modification phase. In the process, a grey clustering scheme is devised to mine emotion soft factors from DMs' preference sequences and manage individuals in different grey classes. Finally, numerical examples, simulation analysis, and comparison study are presented to illustrate the influence of different parameters and justify the validity of the proposed model. We sometimes say about certain things (such as philosophical questions) that they are ‘deep’ or ‘profound’. But what does it mean exactly? Surprisingly, philosophers have been quite silent on this topic and there is neither consensual nor prominent conceptual analysis of ‘depth’. After surveying different proposals that have tried to capture depth in terms of explanatory depth, subject matter, emotional impact, understanding or complexity, we present the results of three studies in which we combine qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate the everyday concept of ‘depth’. Our results suggest that depth and profundity are generally characterized as (i) something with a meaning, (ii) that stimulates cognitive activity, to (iii) promote epistemic progress about (iv) important issues, thus (v) having an emotional impact. Our study examines managerial vulnerability in a bureaucratic context, namely in Finnish immigration centres. We bring a care ethics perspective to the study of vulnerability and address how managers navigate relationships with vulnerable clients and their own vulnerability. Based on empirical data collected through interviews with immigration centre managers, we show how managers negotiated their (in)vulnerability through two alternating positionalities: (1) professionalism, through which they seek to control negative emotions in order to manage their own experiences of vulnerability and affective relationships with clients, and (2) temporal disconformity, which provides space to engage and manage with a variety of emotions and manoeuvre bureaucratic professional norms. Our study then contributes to the literature on managerial work by demonstrating how managers cope with their vulnerable selves and how different notions of care emerge in complex, ethically sensitive managerial situations. Emotion enhances the subjective experience of recollection. Previous research examined associations between memory accuracy and metamemory confidence judgments, but these studies have not quantified the relationship between accuracy and metacognitive confidence judgments. In this study we utilize signal detection theory frameworks to investigate how memory accuracy (measured by discrimination sensitivity) and the alignment between metamemory confidence judgments and memory accuracy (ie. metacognitive efficiency) varies for neutral and negative valence, as well as item and associative detail memory types. Our results indicate that valence and memory type have different effects on accuracy, confidence, and metacognitive efficiency. Negative valence was associated with enhanced accuracy for both items and associated details, but its relationship with response bias varied across memory types, with conservative recognition responses observed for items and liberal responses for associative details. We also observed a double dissociation between metamemory confidence judgements across valence and memory type with negative valence associated with increased confidence for item memory, but decreased confidence for associated details. Examining the association between memory accuracy and metamemory confidence revealed that metacognitive efficiency was greater for negatively valenced items compared to neutral, but this effect did not generalize to details associated with negatively valenced items. The current study sought to explain the connection between biological control and video game usage. Specifically, the study examined video game usage at three levels to determine if there were differences in the ability to control biological responses such as heart rate variability to complete different biofeedback activities. A biological feedback software package, ALIVE, was used to measure "heart rate smoothness" and time task completion during a tutorial training, autopilot control video game car race, and manual control video game car race. Participants were instructed to use biological control techniques including breathing and heart rate "smoothness" to complete the biofeedback video games. Results found that there were significant differences in average heart rate smoothness in autopilot and manual car races and the amount of time it took for participants to complete the manual car race between three levels of video game usage. Although several studies examined the relationship between high levels of dispositional mindfulness and low scores of prejudices referred to various social groups, the findings have sometimes been inconsistent. Such inconsistency may be explained by the fact that much research has relied exclusively on self-oriented dispositional mindfulness as predictor of intergroup biases, thus underestimating the role of the nonjudgmental regard towards others. In the current study, we explored the associations between dispositional mindfulness related to the self, Nonjudgmental Regard towards Others (NRO), sexual prejudice, genderism/transphobia and gender bashing. We expected that higher scores on both dimensions of NRO traits (i.e. Ideological Acceptance and Emotion Acceptance) would be negatively associated with sexual prejudice, genderism/transphobia and gender bashing over mindful traits related to the self. 911 cis-heterosexual participants recruited through Prolific completed the online questionnaire. Dominance analyses were conducted to test our hypotheses. The results partially confirmed the predictions. NRO Emotion Acceptance was the best predictor of sexual prejudice, genderism/transphobia and gender bashing among the mindful traits, above socio-anagraphics, religiosity, political, and ideological variables. However, NRO Ideological Acceptance was not associated with the measures of prejudice. These results suggest that having a nonjudgmental attitude toward others' emotions bay be a better factor in reducing prejudice. Although achievement situations trigger multiple emotions and learners experience both negative and positive emotions simultaneously, procrastination research typically examines isolated relationships between specific emotions and procrastination. The potential interplay of negative and positive emotions regarding procrastination is often overlooked, although this perspective can shed light on their dynamic relationships. Moreover, past studies primarily address the behavioral aspect of procrastination (delay) while overlooking its emotional facet (subjective discomfort), albeit this differentiation could enhance understanding of procrastination and its correlates. The present study explores the understudied interplay of the two most frequently experienced negative (anxiety) and positive (hope) exam-related emotions regarding students' procrastination tendencies with differentiated behavioral and emotional dimensions. The study analyzes cross-sectional data from two independent studies (Nstudy1 = 266, Nstudy2 = 468) conducted in Germany among university students. Latent profile analyses (LPA) reveal three similar profiles across both studies—High Anxiety–Low Hope, Low Anxiety–High Hope and Moderate Anxiety–Moderate Hope— and two study-specific profiles namely, Low Anxiety–Moderate Hope (Study 1) and High Anxiety–Moderate Hope (Study 2). Females compared to males are more likely to belong to the anxiety-dominated profiles. Overall, students in anxiety-dominated profiles report higher scores whereas students in hope-dominated profiles report lower scores on both behavioral and emotional dimensions of academic procrastination. This study advances an integrated approach that incorporates the combined effects of both negative and positive emotions concerning procrastination. Empathy, a cornerstone of social interaction, involves shared representation, eliciting vicarious emotions. However, its influence on shared perceptual representations, particularly in foundational domains such as distance perception, remains unexplored. In this study, we introduce a novel adaptation of the empathy for pain task to investigate empathy's influence on distance perception. We also examine how two personality traits, trait empathy and alexithymia, modulate this relationship. Utilizing eye-tracking technology, we examine how attention allocation to different facial and bodily features affects empathy's impact on distance perception. Our findings indicate that empathy biases individuals to perceive targets as closer, with trait empathy reinforcing this effect and alexithymia attenuating it. Furthermore, we demonstrate that heightened attention to eyes and face correlates with perceiving targets as closer, while attention to hand shows the opposite trend. These results underscore the broader influence of empathy beyond shared emotions, revealing its capacity to alter perceptual processes. By elucidating the interplay between personality traits and visual inputs in shaping these alterations, our study offers valuable insights for future research exploring the role of shared representation in empathy across various perceptual domains. Academic achievement, as one of the main tasks for adolescents, could be affected by mindfulness mindset. However, there is limited investigation into relative importance of different mindfulness dimensions to academic engagement and the underlying emotion-related mechanisms among adolescents. This study first examined the relative importance of five mindfulness facets on academic engagement and then explored the mediating role of academic emotions (enjoyment, calm, anxiety, and exhaustion-upset) in the relationship between mindfulness and academic engagement. A total of 713 (52.5% male; Mage= 12.81, SD = 0.69) Chinese junior high school students completed a set of questionnaires assessing mindfulness, academic emotions and academic engagement in classroom settings. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to examine relationships between five dimensions of mindfulness and academic engagement, as well as the mediating role of academic emotions between mindfulness and academic engagement. Results showed that four mindfulness facets were positively correlated with academic engagement, except for non-judging of inner experiences showing a negative association. Among the five mindfulness facets, acting with awareness was the strongest predictor of academic engagement. In addition, academic enjoyment and exhaustion-upset mediated the association of mindfulness with academic engagement respectively, and the mediation effect size of exhaustion-upset was larger than enjoyment. These findings emphasize the unique roles of five mindfulness dimensions in academic settings, stress the need for a nuanced understanding of mindfulness facets when designing interventions, and encourages mindfulness-based interventions to relieve academic exhaustion-upset and enhance academic enjoyment so as to improve adolescents' academic engagement. Emotion is an episode involving changes in multiple components, specifically subjective feelings, physiological arousal, expressivity, and action tendencies, all these driven by appraisal processes. However, very few attempts have been made to comprehensively model emotion episodes from this full componential perspective, given the statistical and methodological complexity involved. Recently, network analyses have been proposed in the field of emotion and cognition as an innovative theoretical and statistical framework able to integrate several properties of emotions. We therefore addressed the call for more multi-componential evidence by modeling the network of a comprehensive list of emotion components drawn from the Component Process Model of Emotion. Five-hundred students were confronted with mildly ambiguous scenarios from everyday life, and reported on their situational appraisals and emotion responses. Network analyses were applied to the emotion components related to a positive and a negative scenario to explore 1) how the components organize themselves into networks and dimensions; 2) which components are the most central within networks and dimensions; and 3) the patterns of components relation between and within dimensions. A three-dimensional solution emerged in both scenarios. Additionally, some appraisals and responses appeared to be differentially relevant and related to each other in both scenarios, highlighting the importance of context in shaping the strength of emotion component relations. Overall, we enriched the field of affective science by exploring the connections between emotion components in three novel ways: by using network analyses, by integrating them into a multi-componential framework, and by providing context to our emotion components. Our results can also potentially inform applied research, where understanding the interconnections and the centrality of components could aid the personalization of interventions. This meta-analysis investigates the effect of classic psychedelic drugs on empathy and focuses on cognitive and emotional empathy measured using the Multifaceted Empathy Test (MET). Empathy entails the ability to understand and share the feelings of another and is a significant component of social interaction. Several studies have examined the effects of psychedelic drugs such as LSD, psilocybin and ayahuasca on empathy, yet their overall effect has not been studied so far. In this meta-analysis, we reviewed data from studies up to November 2023 with the aim of examining the effects of various psychedelic drugs on empathic abilities broadly. Our findings suggest that classical psychedelics significantly enhance explicit and implicit emotional empathy without affecting measures of cognitive empathy. Speaking up during inpatient medical rounds involves medical trainees voicing ideas, concerns, or information when unprompted for the benefit of patient care and education. Medical residents encounter a unique set of considerations regarding the decision to speak up during rounds. However, little is known about the role of trainees' emotions in speaking up in this context. The objective of this study was to explore the role of emotions in speaking up behaviours among medical residents during inpatient medical rounds. We conducted interviews with 21 medical residents inquiring about perspectives on speaking up. We developed a framework for classifying emotions, which consisted of valence (positive or negative), moral emotions (condemning, self-conscious, suffering, or praising), and non-moral emotions (fear, love, schadenfreude). Interview transcripts were deductively coded and analyzed to identify patterns of emotions and their drivers in the context of speaking up during rounds. Medical residents shared a range of positively- and negatively-valenced emotions in association with speaking up during rounds. We identified five types of emotions in speaking up during rounds that were commonly experienced by residents: praising emotions, self-conscious emotions, condemning emotions, suffering emotions, and fear. Specific drivers of these emotions were identified and classified into workplace, relational, patient-related, or personal factors. Ultimately, we found that medical residents experience both positive and negative emotions that influence speaking up behaviours during inpatient rounds. Further exploration into the role that emotions play in speaking up on inpatient medical rounds may provide valuable insights for medical education research and teaching practices. Hope is a vital coping mechanism, enabling individuals to effectively confront life's challenges. This study proposes a technique employing Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools like Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC), NRC-emotion-lexicon, and vaderSentiment to analyze social media posts, extracting psycholinguistic, emotional, and sentimental features from a hope speech dataset. The findings of this study reveal distinct cognitive, emotional, and communicative characteristics and psycholinguistic dimensions, emotions, and sentiments associated with different types of hope shared in social media. Furthermore, the study investigates the potential of leveraging this data to classify different types of hope using machine learning algorithms. Notably, models such as LightGBM and CatBoost demonstrate impressive performance, surpassing traditional methods and competing effectively with deep learning techniques. We employed hyperparameter tuning to optimize the models' parameters and compared their performance using both default and tuned settings. Micro-expression is a special kind of human emotion. Due to its characteristics of short time, low intensity, and local region, micro-expression recognition is a difficult task. At the same time, it is a natural, spontaneous, and unconcealable emotion that can well convey a person's actual psychological state and, therefore, has certain research value and practical significance. This paper focuses on micro-expression recognition in the field of deep learning through the survey and understanding of existing micro-expression recognition research, as well as grasping the research trend, for the previous literature on micro-expression review ignored the handcrafted features as an important part of the micro-expression recognition framework, and at the same time lacked the analysis of the various enhancement processing, a new micro-expression recognition framework based on deep learning is proposed. The model is designed from the perspective of modularity and streaming data. On the other hand, unlike the previous process of feeding the data directly into the network for training and recognition, the handcrafted features are used as the initial encoding of the micro-expression recognition data, followed by the training and learning of the deep model and at the same time the modular embedding approach is used to incorporate the feature enhancement module, and finally the classification and recognition. The article provides a detailed summary and analysis of each part of the whole framework and a comprehensive introduction to the current problems, experimental protocols, evaluation metrics, and application areas. Finally, it summarizes and gives possible future research directions. Therefore, this paper provides a comprehensive summary and analysis of micro-expression recognition in deep learning so that the related personnel can have a new understanding of the development of this field. The atmosphere is one of the game elements that can significantly influence player's emotions. However, creating an immersive atmosphere that effectively influences player emotions poses several challenges, necessitating the utilization of various elements, such as audio-visual coordination and gameplay design. This paper introduces a general framework for procedurally generating dungeons with joyful and horror atmospheres in games, providing an abstract perspective to address these challenges. The proposed framework introduces a categorization system for game elements based on their role within the game. Leveraging this categorization, the Comprehensive Arrangement of Game Elements (CAGE) pattern is introduced, which facilitates the appropriate placement of elements within the dungeon environment. Subsequently, the General Framework for Generating Dungeons with Atmosphere (GFGDA) is employed to procedurally create the dungeon using the Feasible–Infeasible Two-Population (FI-2Pop) algorithm. To enhance gameplay experience, similar elements in the dungeon environment that impact gameplay are grouped and their coordination is evaluated by creating a graph based on the CAGE pattern. The transition and coordination of audio-visual elements along the path between these impactful elements are assessed in order to generate an immersive atmosphere within the dungeon. To ensure diversity, examining the variety of dungeons generated over 100 runs demonstrates that our method consistently produces distinct results in each iteration. Moreover, two comparative studies were conducted, one with 51 volunteers and another with 10 volunteers. In the first study, the Game Experience Questionnaire (GEQ) was utilized to assess the emotional impact of dungeons generated by our method. These were compared to dungeons created using a uniform random approach, alongside relevant research. The results suggest that our method significantly influences player emotions across the four components of the GEQ—sensory and imaginary immersion, flow, negative effects, and challenge—when compared to dungeons generated by the uniform random approach and another researched method. In another study, the emotional impact of two dungeons, one generated with joyful elements and the other with eerie elements, was evaluated using the GEQ. The findings indicate significant differences between the two components of the GEQ—tension and positive effects—when players interacted with the level containing joyful elements compared to the one with eerie elements. There is growing evidence that mindfulness-based interventions reduce test anxiety in university-level students, but less is known about high school students. Adolescence is a time of frequent testing, identity concerns, and increases in self-conscious emotions. We hypothesized that test anxiety would be associated with negative self-referential thinking (negative self-thinking, study 1) and that Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) would reduce test anxiety, negative self-thinking, and self-judgment (study 2). 455 high school students (M age = 17.1 years (SD = 1.07), 43.2% female) reported their test anxiety and negative self-thinking in a cross-sectional study (study 1) and 33 high school students (mean age = 17.5 years (SD = 1.60, 88% female) reported measures at the pre-, post, and one-year follow-up during an 8-week MBSR course (study 2). Test anxiety was positively related to negative self-thinking (study 1). Test anxiety and self-judgment were reduced after participating in MBSR and remained low one year after (study 2). Negative self-thinking was not reduced during the intervention. MBSR seems promising in reducing test anxiety and self-judgment in adolescents and might increase awareness of negative self-thinking, perhaps also reducing the impact of such thoughts by encouraging observation of the thoughts as "events in the mind" rather than facts. In some situations, goal striving does not go without problems, leading to intrapsychic decisional conflict between giving up and persisting in problematic goal striving, known as an action crisis. However, only limited attention has been devoted to cultivable positive psychological resources that can shield individuals from an action crisis development. In the six studies, we examined the role of psychological capital (PsyCap), the higher-order construct based on similarities between hope, self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism and their unique characteristics in an action crisis experience. A pilot study (N = 295) established a link between variables, indicating that the more PsyCap participants had, the fewer action crises they experienced (and vice versa). In a preregistered follow-up study (N = 210), this finding was replicated. Furthermore, it was shown that the relationship was indirect, potentially mediated by the appraisals of goal attainment. In the third study (N = 411), some essential aspects were varied. The main findings were conceptually replicated, showing that PsyCap was associated with action crisis and predicted it above and beyond selected personality traits (negative emotionality and conscientiousness). In the fourth and fifth study (N = 272 and N = 268), the indirect role of goal-related negative emotions, controlled motivation, and effort was supported. Also, results were partially extended to goal progress. However, in a longitudinal study (N = 254) with the random intercept cross-lagged panel model, it was shown that although the average level of PsyCap across time points is negatively associated with the average level of action crisis (i.e., the between-person effect was supported), the cross-lagged within-subject effect of PsyCap on action crisis was not supported. This study aimed to validate emotion decoding using a facial landmark-based prediction model trained on real-world data. We used facial landmark data and behavioral ratings measured while 29 participants (21 female, 22 male; age = 19–29, M = 22.37, SD = 2.25). viewed short video clips eliciting 10 different emotions including amusement, anger, awe, disgust, enthusiasm, fear, liking, sadness, surprise, and neutrality. Cross-participant classifications with support vector machine classifier were conducted to predict emotions across individuals. The results demonstrated promising predictive capabilities, achieving over 40% accuracy for behavioral ratings, facial landmarks, and their combination. Notably, classification based on combined features reached 75% accuracy, excelling in emotions like disgust, fear, and surprise. In summary, this study demonstrates the ability of facial landmark-based model to decode emotions accurately, particularly emphasizing negative and high-arousal emotions, and underscores the importance of supplementary tools in enhancing emotional response prediction. Mental health issues have increased substantially since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, health policymakers do not have adequate data and tools to predict mental health demand, especially amid a crisis. Using time-series data collected in Singapore, this study examines if and how algorithmically measured emotion indicators from Twitter posts can help forecast emergency mental health needs. We measured the mental health needs during 549 days from 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2021 using the public's daily visits to the emergency room of the country's largest psychiatric hospital and the number of users with "crisis" state assessed through a government-initiated online mental health self-help portal. Pairwise Granger-causality tests covering lag length from 1 day to 5 days indicated that forecast models using Twitter joy, anger and sadness emotions as predictors perform significantly better than baseline models using past mental health needs data alone (e.g., Joy Intensity on IMH Visits, χ2 = 14·9, P < ·001***; Sadness Count on Mindline Crisis, χ2 = 4·6, P = ·031*, with a one-day lag length). This study explores how citizens develop a sense of commonality by investigating the motivations that underlie their environmental activism. Our theoretical framework is based on engagement theory, from which we derive three fundamental components (i.e. cognitive, affective, and behavioural). Data derived from explorative fieldwork and in-depth interviews with engaged citizens and public servants provide the empirical grounding. Set in Brussels, Belgium, we focus on two cases that involve green spaces earmarked for future development and have been contested by citizens who have expressed various ecological and political demands. We find that the cognitive, affective, and behavioural dimensions are fundamental to understand environmental activism. In addition, we show that personal values are relational in nature and that indignation and anger are identified as pivotal for collective action. Also internal/external efficacy is important to understand citizens' engagement. Whereas the effects of emotional intensity (the perceived strength of an item's valence or arousal) have long been studied in true- and false-memory research, emotional ambiguity (the uncertainty that attaches to perceived emotional intensity) has only been studied recently. Available evidence suggests that emotional ambiguity has reliable effects on true memory that are distinct from those of emotional intensity. However, those findings are mostly restricted to recall, and the effects of emotional ambiguity on false memory remain unexplored. The current study addressed both limitations by measuring the effects of emotional ambiguity and emotional intensity on true and false recognition. In two experiments, we manipulated valence ambiguity and valence intensity (Experiment 1) and arousal ambiguity and arousal intensity (Experiment 2) of Deese/Roediger/McDermott lists. Multiple linear regression analyses were conducted for Experiment 1, Experiment 2, and the combined data of the experiments to separate the effects of emotional ambiguity and emotional intensity. Our results showed that both valence ambiguity and arousal ambiguity improved true recognition, and the effects of valence ambiguity remained robust even when controlling for valence intensity, arousal intensity, and arousal ambiguity. More importantly, for both valence and arousal, there was an interaction between ambiguity and intensity in false memory. Specifically, we found that valence ambiguity increased false recognition with positive valence, while arousal ambiguity amplified the effect of arousal intensity on false recognition. Although numerous studies exist on the sibling relationships of children with disabilities, much less research has examined the sibling relationships of children with visual impairments. Considering the contributions of siblings to each other in terms of personality development and social functioning, the impact of visual impairments on the quality and dynamics of sibling relationships needs to be studied. We therefore investigated the sibling relationships of children with visual impairments. We performed a case study by conducting semi-structured interviews with a total of 24 participants including siblings with visual impairments, sighted sibling(s), and their parents from six families. Inductive thematic analysis was conducted for data analysis. Four superordinate themes emerged from the interviews: diverse aspects of the relationship, differing roles, mutual support, and transformative experiences. The results reveal that although the dynamics of the relationships between children with visual impairments and their siblings were similar to those of sibling relationships of typical dyads, visual impairments disturbed the natural flow of the relationship between siblings. The sibling relationships were mostly guided by feelings, and sighted siblings were a powerful source of support. Sibling dyads had a limited social life and their shared activities and times were mostly home-based. Within the context of sibling relationships of children with visual impairments, the relationships were characterized by challenges, differing roles, and positive aspects. Family members of children with visual impairments perceived the sibling relationships on a spectrum including non-disability experiences at one end and the challenge to manage typical relationships at the other end. For future directions, longitudinal research may be conducted to examine the development of sibling relationships across life, while practitioners can provide support to sibling dyads about how to spend time together and manage their relationship more effectively. Gratitude in the workplace can enhance work achievements and promote individual well‐being in organizational contexts. Although the Gratitude at Work Scale (GAWS) was developed in the USA, it has not been corroborated in the Persian culture. The purpose of this study was to validate the Persian version of the Gratitude at Work Scale (GAWS). Scale validation procedures included linguistic validation and face and content validity assessment by experts and analysis. There was a correlation of approximately 0.592 between two subscales of GAWS-MW and GAWS-SWE, indicating a moderate level of association. Scale validity analysis demonstrated a positive correlation between GAWS and measures gratitude (GQ6), gratitude toward God, subjective happiness and satisfaction with life scales. The Gratitude at Work Scale exhibited good psychometric properties in assessing the sense of gratitude at work in our population. Research suggests that religious activity and spiritual experiences are associated with well-being among emerging adults. This research is primarily evaluated on the between-person level, leaving within-person effects largely unexplored. We examined relations between religious activity and spiritual experiences and their relation to life satisfaction and alcohol use among 383 college students at a moderately large university in the southwest USA. Participants completed daily reports of study measures. Multilevel regression indicated that daily religious activities and spiritual experiences were directly, and indirectly through moral emotions, associated with satisfaction with life. This qualitative study was conducted to explore the common dyadic coping (DC) efforts of married couples, with a chronically ill partner. The sample for the study consisted of twelve couples chosen from Gujrat, Pakistan. The semi-structured interviews were conducted with the help of an interview guide and analyzed using thematic analysis (Braun and Clarke, 2006). The following four major themes were emerged: "common problem-focused DC," "common emotion-focused DC," "common religious DC," and "combined pattern of intimate relationships." The findings indicated that partners are not preferring relational coping resources for problem- and emotion-focused DC. However, the majority of couples participate in religious DC process in a complementary way to cope with stressful situation in the result of chronic illness. The study also indicated various indigenous factors, for example, socioeconomic status, family culture, lack of physical resource, and religious standpoints contributing in the lack of connectivity and sexual intimacy. To conclude, the results revealed that future research is required to investigate the patient and partner's relationship in greater depth, focusing on above-mentioned contextual factors. Sodium oxybate extended-release suspension (LUMRYZ™; hereafter referred to as sodium oxybate ER) represents a promising novel option for the treatment of narcolepsy. It is the first once-nightly sodium oxybate formulation to be approved in the USA for the treatment of cataplexy or excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) in adults with narcolepsy. Sodium oxybate ER has a pharmacokinetic profile that supports a single bedtime dose. In a pivotal phase 3 trial, once-nightly sodium oxybate ER dose-dependently increased sleep latency during the daytime, reduced cataplexy and daytime sleepiness, and improved disrupted nighttime sleep (DNS) compared with placebo in patients aged ≥ 16 years with narcolepsy. These improvements were statistically significant and clinically meaningful. Most patients who switched from twice-nightly immediate-release sodium oxybate (hereafter referred to as sodium oxybate IR) to once-nightly sodium oxybate ER in an open-label extension/switching study preferred the once-nightly formulation. Once-nightly sodium oxybate ER was generally well tolerated, including over the longer term, with a tolerability profile consistent with that of twice-nightly sodium oxybate IR. Plain Language Summary: Narcolepsy, a disorder of sleep-wake instability, is a lifelong condition characterized primarily by overwhelming and persistent daytime sleepiness. Other symptoms include sudden muscle weakness associated with strong emotions (cataplexy), disturbed nighttime sleep, sleep paralysis, and vivid hallucinations when falling asleep or when awakening. The standard of care for patients with narcolepsy has been sodium oxybate, which requires twice-nightly dosing. Patients take their first dose at bedtime and must then awaken 2.5–4 h later to take their second dose. A less burdensome once-nightly formulation, sodium oxybate extended-release suspension (LUMRYZ™; hereafter referred to as sodium oxybate ER), has been approved for the treatment of cataplexy or excessive daytime sleepiness in patients with narcolepsy. In a clinical trial, patients treated with once-nightly sodium oxybate ER were able to stay awake longer during the day, felt less sleepy in the daytime, had fewer cataplexy attacks, and had less disruption to nighttime sleep than placebo recipients. Sodium oxybate ER was generally well tolerated. Nausea, dizziness, bed-wetting, headache, and vomiting were the most common treatment-related adverse events. Spiritual struggles are common for religion-affiliated and non-affiliated individuals, religious skeptics, agnostics, and atheists. They gain particular importance for people under significant stress, such as those who are alcohol dependent. This study examined the role of positive religious coping and God's support in the spiritual growth and recovery of alcohol-dependent individuals participating in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The study was cross-sectional. The participants were 115 alcohol-dependent individuals from Poland who were members of AA. A path analysis statistical method was used. The research emphasized the beneficial role of strong God's support in the relationship between positive religious coping and spiritual growth, abstinence, and happiness. The mechanism underlying the relationship between positive religious coping, God's support, spiritual growth, and recovery was confirmed. God's support was a moderator in the relationship between positive religious coping and spiritual growth. In a group with stronger God's support, positive religious coping was positively related to spiritual growth, which in turn was associated with a happy and alcohol-abstinent life for alcohol-dependent individuals participating in AA. Among individuals with weak God's support, positive religious coping was not directly related to spiritual growth, nor was it indirectly related to recovery through spiritual growth. Cerebellum is a key-structure for the modulation of motor, cognitive, social and affective functions, contributing to automatic behaviours through interactions with the cerebral cortex, basal ganglia and spinal cord. The predictive mechanisms used by the cerebellum cover not only sensorimotor functions but also reward-related tasks. Cerebellar circuits appear to encode temporal difference error and reward prediction error. From a chemical standpoint, cerebellar catecholamines modulate the rate of cerebellar-based cognitive learning, and mediate cerebellar contributions during complex behaviours. Reward processing and its associated emotions are tuned by the cerebellum which operates as a controller of adaptive homeostatic processes based on interoceptive and exteroceptive inputs. Lobules VI-VII/areas of the vermis are candidate regions for the cortico-subcortical signaling pathways associated with loss aversion and reward sensitivity, together with other nodes of the limbic circuitry. There is growing evidence that the cerebellum works as a hub of regional dysconnectivity across all mood states and that mental disorders involve the cerebellar circuitry, including mood and addiction disorders, and impaired eating behaviors where the cerebellum might be involved in longer time scales of prediction as compared to motor operations. Cerebellar patients exhibit aberrant social behaviour, showing aberrant impulsivity/compulsivity. The cerebellum is a master-piece of reward mechanisms, together with the striatum, ventral tegmental area (VTA) and prefrontal cortex (PFC). Critically, studies on reward processing reinforce our view that a fundamental role of the cerebellum is to construct internal models, perform predictions on the impact of future behaviour and compare what is predicted and what actually occurs. Raising the user's self-confidence is a promising strategy to reduce product-related user stigma. In the context of product usage, the commonly used term self-confidence refers to the psychological construct of self-efficacy. To strengthen a user's self-efficacy through product design, providing both good usability and emotionality in a product seems to be a reasonable starting point. However, their suitability and validity for this purpose has not yet been sufficiently assessed. This paper examines whether self-efficacy would be associated with perceptions of a product's usability and emotionality. By conducting an online survey (n = 105; stigma-sensitive product demonstrator: walker), it was confirmed that the perception of good usability and emotionality of walkers were positively associated with the user's perceived self-efficacy. Moreover, a negative interaction effect was identified showing that the association between emotionality and self-efficacy increased with lower levels of perceived usability and vice versa. Numerous studies have indicated that both the broaden-and-build model and the motivational dimensional model emphasize the impact of emotion on spatial attention by altering the attentional scope. However, no prior research has investigated the impact of emotional valence and motivational intensity on spatial attention within the same paradigm. Furthermore, object-based attention, characterized by distinct neural mechanisms from space-based attention and also susceptible to attentional scope, represents a major pattern of selective attention. Nevertheless, it is still unclear whether and how emotional valence and motivation play a role in object-based attentional selection. Therefore, the present study aimed to explore these areas. Using a two-rectangle paradigm, Experiment 1 found that motivational intensity modulated space-based effects, whereas emotional valence modulated object-based effects. Experiment 2 used a traditional spatial cueing paradigm to further study the stability of modulating effect of motivation intensity on space-based attention, yielding results consistent with those of Experiment 1. The present study indicated that the broaden-and-build model and motivational dimensional model were not either one or the other, but both played a role in object- and space-based attention. Studies on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on autistic children's psychosocial outcomes have shown mixed results. In the current study we aimed to gain a better insight into the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic by comparing psychosocial outcomes collected pre-pandemic with data collected during the pandemic. We used the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) to examine change over time in psychosocial outcomes of autistic children from pre-pandemic (T0) to lockdown I (T1) and lockdown II (T2) in the Netherlands. We expected a deterioration in psychosocial outcomes. There were 224 participants in T0 and T1, of which 141 also participated in T2. The results showed a surprising improvement in psychosocial outcomes from T0 to T1. Special education and female gender were associated with increased difficulties over time, while higher age was associated with decreased difficulties. At the subdomain level we found that emotional problems remained stable, while hyperactivity, conduct problems, and peer problems decreased, and prosocial behavior increased. Attending special education predicted increased peer problems over time, while higher age predicted both decreased conduct problems and increased prosocial behavior over time. However, there are few studies on the impact of these psychological problems on college students' English learning. As a special group about to enter society, studying the mental health of college students in foreign language learning is of great significance. This paper discusses the principle of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology and the interactive mechanism to support college students' foreign language learning. Additionally, the adaptability supporting college students' foreign language learning is analyzed according to the current situation of AI supporting foreign language learning. Then, the mental health of college students in the AI environment is investigated and analyzed. This paper takes foreign and non-foreign language majors of Changchun University of Technology as the object and uses questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observation to obtain basic data. The results show that college students' adaptability to foreign language learning is higher than that of non-foreign. Students' intelligent operation and knowledge storage level impact their adaptability to foreign language learning. Psychological health problems include learning anxiety, loneliness, depression, and inferiority in college students' foreign language learning. These negative emotions, to a certain extent, affect the learning effect of college students' foreign language learning. Background: Sleep hygiene behaviours are a suggested set of behaviours people can engage in to improve sleep. However, there are numerous issues relating to the measurement of sleep hygiene, primarily, the lack of consensus as to which behaviours impact sleep and should therefore be included in scales. Method: Cross-sectional correlational methods were used to assess the association between sleep quality, a highly inclusive range of sleep hygiene behaviours, and individual perceptions of those behaviours in a non-clinical sample of 300 participants. Results: Of the 35 sleep hygiene behaviours assessed, 18 were independently associated with sleep quality. Post-hoc factor analysis revealed that behaviours clustered together across four factors. A 'routine' factor included behaviours such as going to bed and waking up at the same time each night, and were important predictors of sleep quality, as were behaviours belonging to the 'perseverative cognition' and 'negative emotionality' factor. Other behaviours related to physiological processes like exposure to sunlight during the day and going to bed hungry were also significantly associated with sleep. Negative perceptions moderated the relationship between daytime exposure to sunlight and sleep. Conclusions: Although certain behaviours were significantly related to sleep, almost half were not, supporting the need to examine the association between sleep and behaviours used for sleep hygiene recommendations more critically. Reframing sleep hygiene recommendations into a condensed set of shared underlying mechanisms may be of benefit for the development of sleep hygiene scales and interventions in non-clinical populations. Previous studies have found that individuals with high empathy tend to describe ambiguous faces as negative expressions that convey helplessness. However, the cognitive mechanism behind this processing pattern (i.e. whether it is due to interpretation bias or perceptual sensitivity) and whether the pattern is specific to emotions implying helplessness or applicable to all negative emotions are still unclear. The present study aimed to fill these gaps. Fifty-four undergraduates with high empathy and fifty-four with low empathy completed an emotion recognition paradigm. In this paradigm, they were presented with sad–happy and angry–happy expression continua and then were asked to indicate which emotion the presented facial images most resembled. For the sad–happy continuum, the high-empathy group showed higher shift points compared to the low-empathy group, but with comparable slopes. No significant differences were found when using the angry–happy continuum. The findings indicate that the negative facial recognition of high empathizers is attributed to interpretation bias rather than perceptual sensitivity, and this pattern is specific to faces conveying helplessness. This may help to understand the distress in high empathizers and lay the groundwork for alleviating mental and interpersonal problems of high-empathy individuals through interpretation bias intervention. The purpose of this research was to test if the ways sport fans felt while supporting their favourite teams – both in terms of typical feelings and changes in feelings over time – were associated with different combinations of harmonious passion (HP) and obsessive passion (OP) for being a sports fan. We conducted two studies in which fans reported how they typically felt while watching their favourite teams (Study 1, N = 430), and how they were feeling at three time points throughout an 8-month season (Study 2, N = 418). The results showed that the most adaptive fan outcomes (i.e., low negative feelings, high positive feelings and enjoyment) were associated with high HP combined with low OP. In contrast, the least adaptive fan outcomes (i.e., high negative feelings, low positive feelings and enjoyment) were associated with low HP combined with high OP. Negative emotional stimuli are typically recognized more accurately and with a more liberal response bias than neutral stimuli. We assessed whether those effects on recognition memory are present at similar magnitudes for specific negative emotions by contrasting emotions that theoretically vary across different emotional dimensions. Although anger, fear, and disgust are all highly-arousing and negative emotions, they differ in motivational tendencies and/or appraisal properties such as (un)certainty about the source or the consequence of emotion: Fear and disgust trigger avoidance motivation, whereas anger triggers approach motivation (Carver, C. Also, anger and disgust are associated with high certainty, but fear is associated with low certainty (Lerner, J. S., & Keltner, D. (2000). In two experiments, participants studied lists of negative (anger-, fear-, or disgust-related) and neutral words and then completed a delayed recognition memory test. In both experiments, fear-related words showed no recognition memory advantage compared to neutral words, while anger-related words were recognized less well than neutral words. Disgust-related words were better recognized than their neutral counterparts, but only when within-subject design was employed in Experiment 2. Therefore, neither effect could solely be attributed to the motivational or certainty-related properties of emotions. Across all of the specific emotions, negative words led to large liberal bias shifts in both experiments. Notably, this liberal bias was more pronounced for disgust-related words in Experiment 2. Overall, although motivational/appraisal differences across specific negative emotions affected recognition memory, these effects could not be exclusively attributed to a particular emotion dimension. Incongruent perceptions of parental emotional expressivity between parents and adolescents may signify relational challenges, potentially impacting adolescents' socioemotional adjustment. Direct evidence is still lacking and father-adolescent discrepancies are overlooked. This study employed a multi-informant design to investigate whether both mother-adolescent and father-adolescent discrepancies in perceptions of parental expressivity are related to adolescents' mental well-being, specifically focusing on loneliness and depression. Analyzing data from 681 families (mean age of adolescents = 15.5 years old, 51.2% girls, 40% only-children) in China revealed that adolescents tended to perceive paternal and maternal emotional expressivity more negatively than their parents, particularly fathers. Polynomial regression and response surface analysis showed significant links between parent-adolescent congruence and incongruence and adolescent loneliness. (In)Congruence between adolescents and mothers or fathers predicted later adolescent depression, mediated by adolescent loneliness and varied by the dimension of emotional expressivity. Prior research suggests that youth experience immediate emotional distress following privacy invasion, but it is unclear whether and how persistent privacy invasion over longer periods destabilizes the intrapersonal emotional regulatory functions that privacy serves. This study investigated whether late adolescents and emerging adults who reported different patterns of maternal privacy invasion over a full academic year showed differences in emotion regulation, as reflected by the frequency and lability of negative and positive emotional experiences. Participants were first-year university students (n = 349; 60.2% female) in Hong Kong, aged 17 to 24 (MT1 = 18.20, SDT1 = 1.10). They self-reported maternal privacy invasion perceptions and negative and positive emotions 16 times, at bi-weekly intervals. Latent class growth analyses divided participants into a Higher Invasion Perceptions group (24.9%), a Moderate Invasion Perceptions group (46.4%), and a Lower Invasion Perceptions group (28.7%). A one-way MANCOVA examined potential differences in negative and positive emotion dynamics across groups, indexed by frequency (means) and instability (mean square of successive differences and probability of acute change). In line with predictions, both the Higher Invasion and Moderate Invasion groups reported higher negative emotion frequency and instability, compared to the Lower Invasion group. However, groups showed no significant differences regarding positive emotion frequency and instability. The findings indicate that perceptions of maternal privacy invasion predict youth's negative emotion regulation processes over their first collegiate year. Married individuals and those in committed romantic relationships generally report having better mental health outcomes than their single or divorced counterparts. However, studies of romantic relationships for adults with mental illness have often ignored rewarding aspects of romantic relationships and have focused primarily on relationship difficulties. In this study, 23 adults with serious mental illness in long-term romantic relationships described their relationship strengths and struggles in small focus group discussions. Content analysis was used to characterize themes from participant accounts. Overall, participants described deep emotional bonds with their partners, a mutual willingness to work on their relationship, and good communication skills as relationship strengths. Mental health symptoms and internalized stigma were identified as major contributors to relationship struggles. Participants spontaneously identified intentional strategies that they used to navigate mental health challenges in their relationship that included self-directed, partner-directed, and couple-directed actions.
