To achieve sustainable desalination and water purification, solar interface evaporation technology is an effective means due to its high energy efficiency. Reasonable photothermal conversion materials and surface design are crucial for the interfacial solar evaporation process. How to design water transport routes and thermal insulating layers simultaneously is one of the major challenges to solar interface evaporation technology today. Herein, this work reports an arch-shaped wood evaporator (pine@carbon black (CB)-metal-organic framework-801 (MOF-801)-36%) for efficient, fast and continuous interfacial solar evaporation, which is composed of an arch-shaped wood substrate, MOF-801, and CB as a light absorption layer. The arch-shaped structure has a double-sided evaporation effect, which has a synergistic effect on augmenting solar evaporation efficiency. In addition, the in-situ growth of MOF-801 in pretreated wood microchannels renders the wood evaporator a significant function of reducing the equivalent enthalpy of evaporation due to the reduction of the hydrogen bonding density of water molecules as they pass through the wood channels. The best evaporation rate of the arch-shaped wood evaporator can reach 2.535 kg·m−2·h−1, and the efficiency reaches 93.7% under the irradiation of 1 sun illumination. Notably, it could be used for desalination and wastewater treatment to collect fresh water that meets drinking requirements set by the World Health Organization (WHO). Dopamine is not only a widely used commodity pharmaceutical for treating neurological diseases but also a highly attractive base for advanced carbon materials. Lignin, the waste from the lignocellulosic biomass industry, is the richest source of renewable aromatics on earth. Efficient production of dopamine direct from lignin is a highly desirable target but extremely challenging. Here, we report an innovative strategy for the sustainable production of dopamine hydrochloride from softwood lignin with a mass yield of 6.4 wt.%. Significantly, the solid dopamine hydrochloride is obtained by a simple filtration process in purity of 98.0%, which avoids the tedious separation and purification steps. The approach begins with the acid-catalyzed depolymerization, followed by deprotection, hydrogen-borrowing amination, and hydrolysis of methoxy group, transforming lignin into dopamine hydrochloride. The technical economic analysis predicts that this process is an economically competitive production process. This study fulfills the unexplored potential of dopamine hydrochloride synthesis from lignin. Curcumin, a polyphenolic compound extracted from Curcuma longa, has drawn attention for its effective bioactivities against ischemia-induced injury. This study aimed to evaluate the neuroprotective effect of curcumin and investigate the underlying mechanism that mediates autophagy and inflammation in an animal model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) in rats. Curcumin was delivered to Sprague Dawley male rats at a dose of 200 mg/kg curcumin by intraperitoneal injection 30 min after ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). LY294002, a specific inhibitor of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, as well as anisomycin, an activator of TLR4/p38/MAPK, was administered by ventricle injection 30 min before MCAO. The same volume of saline was given as a control. Brain infarction and neurological function were determined 24 h post-MCAO. Immunoblotting and immunofluorescence were used to detect alterations in autophagy-relevant proteins Akt, p-Akt, mTOR, p-mTOR, LC3-II, and LC3-I, and inflammation-related proteins TLR4, p-38, p-p38, and IL-1 in the ipsilateral hemisphere. Cerebral I/R injury resulted in significant alterations of LC3-II/LC3-I, IL-1, TLR4, and p-p38. Curcumin in MCAO rats significantly improved brain damage and neurological function by upregulating p-Akt and p-mTOR and downregulating LC3-II/LC3-I, IL-1, TLR4, p-38, and p-p38. However, these protective effects against ischemia could be suppressed when LY294002 or anisomycin was included. Curcumin exerts neuroprotective effects by attenuating autophagic activities through mediating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, while also suppressing an inflammatory reaction by regulating the TLR4/p38/MAPK pathway. The inevitable problem of machining accuracy that follows accelerated tool wear deters severely the drilling of carbon fiber reinforced plastics/titanium (CFRP/Ti) stacks and is attributed to the cutting mechanism inherent to drilling and drill geometry. This paper develops orbital drilling of this stacked material by use of a special cutter under a dry machining condition and analyzes the characteristics of the variation in hole diameter and roundness. The influence of spindle speed for both CFRP and Ti alloy segments, and the bore and tool diameter ratio on these indexes with progressive tool wear is further studied. The experimental results show that the hole diameter at the CFRP exit always maintained the maximum value; spindle speed when machining different segments can improve or decrease these hole accuracy indexes, and the ratio of bore and tool diameter has greater influence on the roundness of the CFRP layer than that of the Ti alloy layer.
