Christophe Boesch, a pioneer in primatology, passed away suddenly on January 14, 2024. His dedication to understanding and protecting chimpanzee societies has inspired research and conservation efforts worldwide. Boesch conducted groundbreaking research on nut-cracking behavior and hunting behavior in chimpanzees, and his studies supported the idea that chimpanzees are cultural beings. He established the Taï Chimpanzee Project and the Ozouga chimpanzee field site, resulting in numerous scientific publications and documentaries. Boesch also played a crucial role in chimpanzee conservation, founding the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation and advocating for the establishment of national parks in West Africa. His legacy will continue through his field sites and the work of the Wild Chimpanzee Foundation. [Extracted from the article]
