Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses a global health challenge, demanding innovative approaches for effective treatments. Clerodendrum infortunatum Linn. (Lamiaceae) is a shrub traditionally used as a medicinal plant to treat inflammation, skin diseases, and bronchitis. This study aims to identify the main bioactive metabolites in C. infortunatum using LC-QTOF-MS/MS and investigate its potential in protecting against cognitive decline in rats with scopolamine-induced AD disease. Metabolite profiling was performed on the methanol extract of the plant's aerial parts using LC-QTOF-MS/MS. The inhibitory activity of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme was measured in vitro. To evaluate the cognitive effects, the methanol extract was orally administered at three doses (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) to scopolamine-induced AD rats, and their cognitive functions were assessed using the novel object recognition test. Additionally, acetylcholinesterase enzyme activity, as well as the levels of acetylcholine, dopamine, noradrenaline, glutathione, malondialdehyde, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, and amyloid-β in the rat hippocampus, were measured using ELISA, followed by histopathological evaluation. A total of 79 metabolites, spanning various chemical classes, such as organic acids, phenolic acids, phenylpropanoids and phenylethanoids, flavonoids, coumarins, other phenolics, and fatty acids and their derivatives, were identified. The results showed that the extract promoted enhanced cognitive functions in the novel object recognition test. Scopolamine administration significantly altered the acetylcholinesterase enzyme activity and biomarker levels in the rat's hippocampus. However, treatment with C. infortunatum at 200 and 400 mg/kg almost restored these neurotransmitter levels to normal, which was further confirmed by histopathological analysis. This study demonstrates the therapeutic potential of C. infortunatum in mitigating cognitive decline in AD, with its first metabolite profiling revealing a range of bioactive compounds. The extract improved cognitive function in scopolamine-induced AD rats, restored acetylcholinesterase activity, normalized neurotransmitter levels, and reduced oxidative stress and inflammation. Background: This study investigated the impact of preoperative right ventricular (RV) dysfunction and dilatation on survival outcomes following left ventricular surgical restoration (LVSR) in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 137 patients who underwent LVSR between 2009 and 2021. Results: The results indicated that hospital mortality was significantly associated with older age [OR, 1.10; P = 0.01], higher EuroSCORE II [OR, 1.08, P = 0.03], recent myocardial infarction [OR, 4.24, P = 0.02], lower creatinine clearance [OR, 0.97, P = 0.02], and left ventricle longitudinal [OR, 0.95, P < 0.01] and transverse diameter [OR, 0.95; P < 0.01]. Although RV dysfunction alone did not significantly impact survival (log-rank P = 0.48), a trend toward lower survival rates was observed in patients with concurrent RV dilatation and dysfunction (log-rank P = 0.08). Long-term follow-up revealed no significant reduction in RV diameter after surgery. Multivariable analysis revealed that EuroSCORE II [HR, 1.05; P < 0.01], atrial fibrillation [HR, 3.34; P < 0.01], left ventricular longitudinal diameter [HR, 0.97; P < 0.01], and right ventricular basal diameter [HR, 1.06, P < 0.01] were independent predictors of long-term mortality. Conclusions: This study underscores the importance of comprehensive preoperative evaluation of RV dimensions and function in predicting outcomes after LVSR, emphasizing the need for tailored management strategies for patients with RV abnormalities. Background: An unhealthy diet, characterized by elevated consumption of fats and sugars, has detrimental effects on the incidence, progression, and treatment outcomes of arthritis. However, adherence to healthy dietary regimens among these patients remains low. This study aims to assess the knowledge of healthy diet and lifestyle among a cohort of autoimmune arthritis Egyptian patients. Methods: We conducted this cross-sectional study on 502 patients diagnosed with autoimmune arthritis, using 302 online and 200 printed questionnaire forms. The questionnaire comprised sections on socioeconomic status (five questions), information on autoimmune diseases (three questions), nutrition (15 questions), and lifestyle habits (four questions). Results: A total of 502 respondents were enrolled, with 64.5% having rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Only 26.9% of patients were aware of the lifestyle and dietary impact on their disease symptoms. Most patients (89.6%) had good knowledge about the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, and 63.3% knew that consuming fish is beneficial. However, 55.7% were aware of the benefits of physical activity. The total knowledge score was 57.8%. Responses were classified as poor in 217 patients, primarily those unemployed and living in rural areas; moderate in 150 patients; and good in only 135 patients. Additionally, younger individuals demonstrated better knowledge scores. Conclusions: Egyptian patients with autoimmune arthritis exhibited fair to moderate knowledge regarding the impact of anti-inflammatory diets and exercise on the symptoms of autoimmune arthritis and the influence of nutrients on immunity and inflammation. This paper reports a search for a light CP-odd scalar resonance with a mass of 20 GeV to 90 GeV in 13 TeV proton-proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1 collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis assumes the resonance is produced via gluon-gluon fusion and decays into a τ+τ− pair which subsequently decays into a fully leptonic μ + ν μ ν ¯ τ e − ν ¯ e ν τ or e + ν e ν ¯ τ μ − ν ¯ μ ν τ final state. No significant excess of events above the predicted Standard Model background is observed. The results are interpreted within a flavour-aligned two-Higgs-doublet model, and a model-independent cross-section interpretation is also given. This paper presents a search for supersymmetric particles in models with highly compressed mass spectra, in events consistent with being produced through vector boson fusion. The search uses 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at s = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Events containing at least two jets with a large gap in pseudorapidity, large missing transverse momentum, and no reconstructed leptons are selected. A boosted decision tree is used to separate events consistent with the production of supersymmetric particles from those due to Standard Model backgrounds. The data are found to be consistent with Standard Model predictions. The results are interpreted using simplified models of R-parity-conserving supersymmetry in which the lightest supersymmetric partner is a bino-like neutralino with a mass similar to that of the lightest chargino and second-to-lightest neutralino, both of which are wino-like. Lower limits at 95% confidence level on the masses of next-to-lightest supersymmetric partners in this simplified model are established between 117 and 120 GeV when the lightest supersymmetric partners are within 1 GeV in mass. During the 2015–2018 data-taking period, the Large Hadron Collider delivered proton-proton bunch crossings at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV to the ATLAS experiment at a rate of roughly 30 MHz, where each bunch crossing contained an average of 34 independent inelastic proton-proton collisions. The ATLAS trigger system selected roughly 1 kHz of these bunch crossings to be recorded to disk. Offline algorithms then identify one of the recorded collisions as the collision of interest for subsequent data analysis, and the remaining collisions are referred to as pile-up. Pile-up collisions represent a trigger-unbiased dataset, which is evaluated to have an integrated luminosity of 1.33 pb−1 in 2015–2018. This is small compared with the normal trigger-based ATLAS dataset, but when combined with vertex-by-vertex jet reconstruction it provides up to 50 times more dijet events than the conventional single-jet-trigger-based approach, and does so without adding any additional cost or requirements on the trigger system, readout, or storage. The pile-up dataset is validated through comparisons with a special trigger-unbiased dataset recorded by ATLAS, and its utility is demonstrated by means of a measurement of the jet energy resolution in dijet events, where the statistical uncertainty is significantly reduced for jet transverse momenta below 65 GeV. Multi-stable systems, known for having complex nonlinear dynamics, have been shown in past studies to outperform their linear counterparts when designed for operation in vibration energy harvesters. This work investigates the dynamics and performance of a multi-stable electromagnetic energy harvesting device. The objectives are to enhance the levels of generated power and evaluate the useful bandwidths for the various modes of stability. Nonlinearity is introduced through a set of inclined springs and strongly influenced by the geometric parameters, as the shape of the potential energy curves can be adjusted by the selection of these properties. The effect of the geometric parameters' uncertainties on the potential energy as a result of imperfections in manufacturing and installation, and the performance of the proposed harvester, is examined. A nominal tri-stable configuration is considered, and the sensitivity of the system to input design uncertainties is explored. The system's response bifurcation diagrams and dynamical characteristics as well as the power output under up- and reverse-sweeping excitations are also reported. It is shown that the overall response and effectiveness of the nominal multi-stable harvester may drastically change in terms of resonance regions, periodicity of the motion, and levels of harvested power. We establish two key results regarding pseudo symmetric and pseudo Ricci symmetric space-times. Firstly, we demonstrate that in pseudo symmetric generalized Robertson-Walker space-times either the scalar curvature remains constant or the associated vector field B i is irrotational. Secondly, in pseudo Ricci symmetric generalized Robertson-Walker space-times, we establish that either the scalar curvature is zero or the associated vector field A i is irrotational. We identify the conditions to ensure both B i and A i of these manifolds are acceleration-free and vorticity-free. We provide evidence that a pseudo symmetric and pseudo Ricci symmetric GRW space-time can be described as a perfect fluid. In a pseudo symmetric space-time, the state equation is given by p = 4 - n 2 n - 2 μ , whereas in a pseudo Ricci symmetric space-time, the state equation takes the form p = 3 - n n - 1 μ , where p and μ are the isotropic pressure and the energy density. Nowadays, manufacturing of ultraviolet (UV) protective textiles is quite interesting for the outdoor workers to protect their bodies from harmful radiation. Herein, for the first time, durable UV-protective cotton textiles were produced by modification with the mixed metal–Ce organic framework. Cotton was first interacted with 1,2,4-tricarboxybenzene-2,4-anhydride through benzylation reaction. The benzylated cotton (BTC–C = O@Cotton) was then reacted with two metal salts including Cerium salt to obtain Ce–M–BTC–C = O@Cotton. The estimated contents of Ce and the mixed metal within Ce–M–BTC–C = O@Cotton were 3.3% and 0.4%, respectively. The color of cotton was turned to bluish-green color, greenish-yellow color and reddish color after incorporation with Ce–Cu–BTC, Ce–Ni–BTC and Ce–Co–BTC, respectively. The all-modified fabrics exhibited UV-blocking character from good to excellent, depending on the inserted mixed metal. The measured UV-protection factor (UPF) was 34.7 (very good) for Ce–Cu–BTC–C = O@Cotton, 43.1 (excellent) for Ce–Ni–BTC–C = O@Cotton, 26.4 (good) for Ce–Zn–BTC–C = O@Cotton, and 33.3 (very good) for Ce–Co–BTC–C = O@Cotton. After 5 washing cycles, Ce–Ni–BTC–C = O@Cotton and Ce–Co–BTC–C = O@Cotton showed good UV protection. The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith), is a significant pest threatening crops like maize across Africa, necessitating sustainable pest management alternatives. This study evaluates the efficacy of Trichogramma evanescens as a biological control agent against FAW egg masses in Egypt under laboratory and semi-field conditions. FAW larvae were initially collected from infested maize fields and reared on castor-oil plant leaves. Meanwhile, T. evanescens was propagated using Sitotroga cerealella eggs as hosts. The host eggs, aged 18 to 24 h, were sterilized with UV light to prevent host development while maintaining suitability for parasitism. Using custom-designed parasitoid incubators and hemisphere clip-cages, experiments focused on various egg mass configurations, assessing the effects of scales and layering. Laboratory conditions were controlled at 25 ± 2ºC and 55 ± 5% relative humidity, while semi-field trials used large cages in maize fields to approximate natural conditions. The results showed that in laboratory settings, parasitism rates averaged 5.96%, 2.00%, and 1.56% for non-, average-, and dense-scale egg masses, respectively. For egg masses with varying layers, parasitism rates were 5.24% for single-layer, 3.09% for double-layer, and 1.18% for ple-layer, regardless of scale presence. In semi-field conditions, parasitism rates were 1.01% for single-layer, 1.13% for double-layer, and 0.59% for triple-layer egg masses. Correspondingly, parasitism rates for non-, average-, and dense-scale eggs were 1.85%, 0.60% and 0.27%. The study concludes that T. evanescens shows promise for integrated pest management programs; however, its effectiveness is constrained by physical and environmental variables. Optimizing the timing of parasitoid releases and selecting robust strains could enhance the effectiveness of biological control, reducing reliance on chemical pesticides in Egypt. A search is presented for new particles produced in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV that result in final states comprising a massive vector (W or Z) boson that decays hadronically and large missing transverse momentum. The data sample was collected with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider from 2015 to 2018 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. No significant excess over the Standard Model expectation is observed. Model-independent 95% confidence-level limits on the visible cross-section that range from 0.3 fb to 79.5 fb are obtained for non-Standard-Model processes. Exclusion limits are also presented for models with axion-like particles, for two-Higgs-doublet models with a pseudo-scalar mediator between the Standard Model and the dark sector, for the invisible decay of the Higgs boson and for pair-produced weakly interacting dark matter candidates. This paper reports the observation of top-quark pair production in proton-lead collisions in the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is performed using 165 nb−1 of p+Pb data collected at s NN = 8.16 TeV in 2016. Events are categorised in two analysis channels, consisting of either events with exactly one lepton (electron or muon) and at least four jets, or events with two opposite-charge leptons and at least two jets. In both channels at least one b-tagged jet is also required. Top-quark pair production is observed with a significance over five standard deviations in each channel. The top-quark pair production cross-section is measured to be σ t t ¯ = 58.1 ± 2.0 stat. − 4.4 + 4.8 syst. nb, with a total uncertainty of 9%. In addition, the nuclear modification factor is measured to be R p A = 1.090 ± 0.039 stat. − 0.087 + 0.094 syst. . A search for neutral long-lived particles (LLPs) decaying in the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV delivered by the LHC is presented. The analysis is composed of three channels. The first targets pair-produced LLPs, where at least one LLP is produced with sufficiently low boost that its decay products can be resolved as separate jets. The second and third channels target LLPs respectively produced in association with a W or Z boson that decays leptonically. In each channel, different search regions target different kinematic regimes, to cover a broad range of LLP mass hypotheses and models. No excesses of events relative to the background predictions are observed. Higgs boson branching fractions to pairs of hadronically decaying neutral LLPs larger than 1% are excluded at 95% confidence level for proper decay lengths in the range of 30 cm to 4.5 m depending on the LLP mass, a factor of three improvement on previous searches in the hadronic calorimeter. The production of long-lived dark photons in association with a Z boson with cross-sections above 0.1 pb is excluded for dark photon mean proper decay lengths in the range of 20 cm to 50 m, improving previous ATLAS results by an order of magnitude. Finally, long-lived photo-phobic axion-like particle models are probed for the first time by ATLAS, with production cross-sections above 0.1 pb excluded in the 0.1 mm to 10 m range. Developing effective material for pesticide adsorption is a vital issue to protect the environment from their harmful effects. Copper-based metal–organic frameworks including Cu-BTC and its mixed metal derivatives (Fe-Cu-BTC, Co–Cu-BTC, and Mn-Cu-BTC) were successfully formed. Fe-Cu-BTC, Co–Cu-BTC and Mn-Cu-BTC MOFs were synthesized by direct substituting one Cu atom in Cu-BTC with Fe, Co, or Mn. Their structures were characterized using Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR, scanning electron microscopy with EDX, Transmission electron microscopy, BET surface area analysis, and Size distribution. Prepared MOFs adsorbed chlorpyrifos from wastewater and their adsorption capacities were compared. Pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isothermal models were the best to describe the adsorption of chlorpyrifos from water. The coordination bonding was the dominant mechanism; physical adsorption, π-π stacking interaction, and hydrogen bonding were also participated in the adsorption process. Cu-BTC, Fe-Cu-BTC, Co–Cu-BTC and Mn-Cu-BTC had elimination capacities of 379, 851, 683, and 762 mg/g, respectively. This study also investigates their antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and they exhibited a good inhibition effect. The inhibition zone of Co–Cu-BTC is greater than Cu-BTC with 1.44, 1.38, and 1.60 times for E. coli, Ps. Aeruginosa, S. aureus, respectively. Phyllostachys heterocycla is well-known for its high diversity of bioactive metabolites, which are the reason for its various potential medical uses for which anticancer activity has been proven. Herein, Phyllostachys heterocycla extract was prepared in two different metallic nanoparticle formulas such as iron oxide nanoparticle-boron, and iron oxide nanoparticle-humic acid (Fe2O3 NP-B and Fe2O3 NP-HA) with average particle sizes of 12.25 nm and 15.80 nm, respectively. Phyllostachys heterocycla extract and the two nano-formulas were investigated to obtain their cytotoxic activity. The crude extract exhibited potent cytotoxic activity against the ovarian (OVCAR-3) cancer cell line, with IC50 values of 16.3 µg/mL. In comparison, the two nano-loaded forms displayed a much more promising cytotoxic activity with IC50 values of 0.9 µg/mL for Fe2O3 NP-HA, and 6.4 µg/mL for Fe2O3 NP-B. Additionally, NP-HA and NP-B showed potent cytotoxic activities against prostate (PC-3) and pancreatic (Panc1) cancer cell lines with IC50 values of 2.31, 6.3 µg/mL for Fe2O3 NP-HA, and 14.9, 16.8 µg/mL for Fe2O3 NP-B. For apoptosis investigation, Fe2O3 NP-HA induced total ovarian apoptotic cell death by a 87.34-fold change, and necrosis by 1.29-fold change. Regarding cell cycle analysis, Fe2O3 NP-HA-PHE arrested the cell proliferation of OVCAR-3 cells in S-phase, with an increased cell population at S-phase of 42.6%. Additionally, it confirmed the apoptosis mechanism by inhibiting the antiapoptotic gene and activating the proapoptotic gene markers. Moreover, upon continuation of our phytochemical investigation of the plant, additional chemical components of the crude extract of Phyllostachys heterocycla were isolated using various chromatographic techniques. As a result, six compounds were isolated. By using different spectroscopic data, the chemical structures of the pure isolated compounds were assigned as stigmasterol (1), glyceryl monobehenate (2), vanillic acid (3), ferulic acid (4), catechin (5), and thymidine (6). These isolated compounds were previously reported for their potent cytotoxic activities against panel of cancer cell lines including pancreatic cancer and prostate cancer cell lines (Ferulic acid), beside the anti-tumor potential against ovarian cell lines (Stigmasterol). In addition to the cytotoxic activity against human larynx carcinoma HepG-2 cell lines (Catechin), human breast cancer MCF7 (Thymidine), and human colon cancer cell line HT-29 (Vanillic acid). A search for a hypothetical heavy scalar particle, X, decaying into a singlet scalar particle, S, and a Standard Model Higgs boson, H, using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at the centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The explored mass range is 300 ≤ mX ≤ 1000 GeV and 170 ≤ mS ≤ 500 GeV. The signature of this search is one or two leptons (e or μ) from the decay of vector bosons originating from the S particle, S → W±W∓/ZZ, and two photons from the Higgs boson decay, H → γγ. No significant excess is observed above the expected Standard Model background. The observed (expected) upper limits at the 95% confidence level on the cross- section for gg → X → SH, assuming the same S → WW/ZZ branching ratios as for a SM-like heavy Higgs boson, are between 530 (800) fb and 120 (170) fb. Introduction: Unicompartmental Knee Arthroplasty (UKA) and High Tibial Osteotomy (HTO) are two valid options in the treatment of Anteromedial Osteoarthritis (AMOA) of the knee with UKA being mainly performed in cases of Intraarticular deformity (IA) and HTO in cases of Extraarticular deformity (EA). The exact unintentional effect of UKA on EA deformity and HTO on IA deformity is still not well understood. The aim of this study was to assess this unintentional effect of UKA on EA and HTO on IA deformities respectively. Materials and methods: This a single-center retrospective study in which 50 patients who underwent UKA and 50 patients who underwent medial opening wedge HTO (MWOHTO) for the treatment of AMOA were included. Overall, 35 males and 15 females underwent HTO with a mean age of 44.3 ± 11.2 years while the mean age of the UKA group was 71.8 ± 7.9 years in 23 males and 27 females. The radiological effect of UKA and HTO on each of the following angles: Hip-Knee-Ankle angle (HKA), Medial Proximal Tibial Angle (MPTA), mechanical Lateral Distal Femoral Angle (mLDFA) and Joint Line Convergence Angle (JLCA) on long film radiographs both pre- and postoperatively was measured. The postoperative values were compared to the preoperative values to detect the expected and unintended effects of each technique on IA and EA deformities. Results: In the HTO group, the MPTA has changed significantly as expected from 83.1 ± 4.5 preoperatively to 88.9 ± 3.9 postoperatively (p value < 0.001) correcting the existing preoperative EA varus without overcorrection. Similarly in the UKA group, the JLCA has also changed significantly as expected to correct the IA varus from 3.8 ± 1.7 preoperatively to 0.9 ± 1 postoperatively (p value < 0.001). On the other hand, the JLCA was unintentionally changed in the HTO group from 2.6 ± 2.1 preoperatively to 1.6 ± 2.4 postoperatively (p value = 0.03) partly correcting the IA varus deformity. Similarly, the MPTA showed a significant change that occurred inadvertently in the UKA group from 84.8 ± 2.1 to 86.3 ± 1.6 postoperatively (p value < 0.001). This unintentional increase in the MPTA also partly corrected the preexisting EA varus deformity. The mLDFA did not show a significant change neither in the HTO group (p value = 0.96) nor in the UKA group (p value = 0.94). Conclusion: In addition to intraarticular varus correction, UKA can partly correct the extraarticular varus deformity in AMOA even when resurfacing is exclusively attempted. Plants encounter many biotic entities, such as fungi, bacteria, and nematodes, which induce biotic stress that disrupts normal metabolism and limits the growth and productivity of plants. Currently, the use of plant growth-promoting bacterial endophytes instead of synthetic fungicides is intriguingly eco-friendly. An in vitro and in vivo antagonistic approach using Bacillus amyloliquefaciens RaSh1 was used to mimic the pathogenic effect of Alternaria alternata. (pepper plants) were grown and subjected to inoculation with B. amyloliquefaciens and infected with A. alternata, and then the growth attributes, photosynthetic pigments, physio-biochemical parameters, and the level of endogenous phytohormones were assessed. Under the pathogen attack, the main responses, such as plant length, total fresh and dry weights, total chlorophylls, and pigments, were reduced, accompanied by increases in H2O2. As well, infection of pepper with A. alternata caused downregulation in the plant hormonal system by significantly decreasing gibberellins, indole-3-acetic acid, abscisic acid, as well as cytokinin concentrations. Although, with B. amyloliquefaciens application, an enhancement in growth, photosynthetic pigments, proline, thiol content, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, and peroxidase in pepper plant leaves appeared while the content of H2O2 decreased. Endogenous phytohormones were found to be upregulated in B. amyloliquefaciens-inoculated and diseased plants. The current study found that B. amyloliquefaciens RaSh1 rescued pepper plant growth by modulating antioxidant defense and regulating hormones, and could be used to control A. alternata in an environmentally friendly manner while maintaining sustainable agriculture and food security. This paper presents a measurement of the production cross-section of a Z boson in association with b- or c-jets, in proton–proton collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb - 1 . Inclusive and differential cross-sections are measured for events containing a Z boson decaying into electrons or muons and produced in association with at least one b-jet, at least one c-jet, or at least two b-jets with transverse momentum p T > 20 GeV and rapidity | y | < 2.5 . Predictions from several Monte Carlo generators based on next-to-leading-order matrix elements interfaced with a parton-shower simulation, with different choices of flavour schemes for initial-state partons, are compared with the measured cross-sections. The results are also compared with novel predictions, based on infrared and collinear safe jet flavour dressing algorithms. A search for dark mesons originating from strongly-coupled, SU(2) dark flavor symmetry conserving models and decaying gaugephobically to pure Standard Model final states containing top and bottom quarks is presented. The search targets fully hadronic final states and final states with exactly one electron or muon and multiple jets. The analyzed data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions collected at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess over the Standard Model background expectation is observed and the results are used to set the first direct constraints on this type of model. The two-dimensional signal space of dark pion masses m π D and dark rho-meson masses m ρ D is scanned. Soft denture liners have limitations like short lifespan and increased microbial buildup. Despite promise as a non-leaching antimicrobial polymer in dentistry, the impact of dimethylaminododecyl methacrylate (DMADDM) on soft liner performance remains unexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of integrating different concentrations of DMADDM to cold cure acrylic resin soft liner, on its antimicrobial activity, cytotoxicity, and physical properties. The same properties were compared to a conventional commercially available denture soft liner. The study employed a control group (conventional soft liner) and three test groups containing 3.3%, 6.6%, and 10% (total mass fraction) DMADDM, respectively. Antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans was assessed through colony counts and biofilm biomass. Cytotoxicity was evaluated using an oral epithelial cell line. Additionally, wettability and hardness were measured to assess physical properties. Incorporation of DMADDM significantly reduced Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans counts, and biofilm biomass, compared to the control. Additionally, DMADDM improved the soft liner's wettability and mitigated long-term hardness increase. In conclusion, DMADDM holds promise in enhancing soft liner performance. A search is presented for non-resonant Higgs boson pair production, targeting the bbZZ, 4V (V = W or Z), VVττ, 4τ, γγVV and γγττ decay channels. Events are categorised based on the multiplicity of light charged leptons (electrons or muons), hadronically decaying tau leptons, and photons. The search is based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. No evidence of the signal is found and the observed (expected) upper limit on the cross-section for non-resonant Higgs boson pair production is determined to be 17 (11) times the Standard Model predicted cross-section at 95% confidence level under the background-only hypothesis. The observed (expected) constraints on the HHH coupling modifier, κλ, are determined to be −6.2 < κλ< 11.6 (−4.5 < κλ< 9.6) at 95% confidence level, assuming the Standard Model for the expected limits and that new physics would only affect κλ. A combination of searches for Higgs boson decays into a visible photon and a massless dark photon (H → γγd) is presented using 139 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The observed (expected) 95% confidence level upper limit on the Standard Model Higgs boson decay branching ratio is determined to be B (H → γγd) < 1.3% (1.5)%. The search is also sensitive to higher-mass Higgs bosons decaying into the same final state. The observed (expected) 95% confidence level limit on the cross-section times branching ratio ranges from 16 fb (20 fb) for mH = 400 GeV to 1.0 fb (1.5 fb) for mH = 3 TeV. A search for heavy pseudo-scalar (A) and scalar (H) Higgs bosons decaying into a top-quark pair (t t ¯ ) has been performed with 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV. Interference effects between the signal process and Standard Model (SM) t t ¯ production are taken into account. Final states with exactly one or exactly two electrons or muons are considered. No significant deviation from the SM prediction is observed. The results of the search are interpreted in the context of a two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM) of type II in the alignment limit with mass-degenerate pseudo-scalar and scalar Higgs bosons (mA = mH) and the hMSSM parameterisation of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. Ratios of the two vacuum expectation values, tan β, smaller than 3.49 (3.16) are excluded at 95% confidence level for mA = mH = 400 GeV in the 2HDM (hMSSM). Masses up to 1240 GeV are excluded for the lowest tested tan β value of 0.4 in the 2HDM. In the hMSSM, masses up to 950 GeV are excluded for tan β = 1.0. Erwinia amylovora, the causative agent of fire blight of pome fruits and other rosaceous plants belongs to the group of regulated quarantine pests. The aim of this work was to characterize the populations of E. amylovora in Norway and their geographical distribution. A total of 238 E. amylovora isolates recovered from symptomatic host plants in Norway between 1986 and 2004 were genotyped by means of a short sequence repeat (SSR) marker (ATTACAGA) on plasmid pEa29. The SSR region was amplified and amplicon size determined using fluorescent labelling and rapid, automated capillary gel electrophoresis. All isolates contained the pEa29 plasmid harbouring the investigated marker. In total, ten genotypes were identified, of which two were detected only once. The number of repeats varied from 3 to 13, with 43% of the isolates containing five repeats. Of 17 isolates collected between 1986 and 1991, all but one contained five repeats, whereas more variation was observed in isolates from the period 2000 to 2004. Most of the isolates (80%) originated from Cotoneaster bullatus, hence no relationship between genotype of the isolate and host species that it was isolated from could be detected. Antimicrobial and UV-blocking textiles (protective textiles) are quite required especially for outdoor workers and in hot weather countries. Herein, for the first time, under the effect of infrared radiation, the preparation of multi-finished viscose fabrics via the incorporation of metal organic framework-based on Cesium (Ce-MOF) is investigated. Ce-MOF using different ligands including 1,4-benzendicarboxylic acid (BDC), 1,2,4-benzene tricarboxylic acid (BDC-COOH) and 2-amino-1,4-dicarboxyic acid (BDC-NH2) were incorporated within viscose and cationic viscose (Q-viscose) fabrics in one-pot process. MOF uptake was significantly improved from 88.6 – 96.8 mg/g to 122.5 – 152.2 mg/g after the cationization process. Due to incorporation of Ce-MOF, viscose fabrics acquired creamy to yellowish color and became more thermally stable. Tensile strength was lowered by 8.9 – 17.4% for viscose and 17.1 – 20.3% for Q-viscose, after modification with Ce-MOFs. The estimated UV-protection factor (UPF) for Q-viscose fabrics was significantly increased to be 50.1– 88.1 after incorporation of Ce-BDC-COOH & Ce-BDC-NH2, achieving maximum UV protection. By comparing between Ce-BDC and Ce-BDC-COOH, the fabrics treated with Ce-BDC-NH2 showed the highest microbial protection against bacteria and fungus. After immobilization of Ce-MOF, the estimated inhibition zones were 11–14 mm & 15–18 mm against E. coli and 13–15 mm & 17–19 mm against C. albicans, for viscose and Q-viscose, respectively. Environmental conditions profoundly impact the health, welfare, and productivity of laying hens in commercial poultry farming. We investigated the association between microclimate variations, production indices, and histopathological responses to accidental Newcastle disease virus (NDV) infection within a controlled closed-house system. The study was conducted over seven months in a laying hen facility in Cairo, Egypt. Microclimate measurements included temperature, relative humidity (RH%), air velocity (AV), and the temperature humidity index (THI) that were obtained from specific locations on the front and back sides of the facility. Productivity indices, including the egg production percentage (EPP), egg weight (EW), average daily feed intake, and feed conversion ratio, were assessed monthly. During an NDV outbreak, humoral immune responses, gross pathology, and histopathological changes were evaluated. The results demonstrated significant (p < 0.05) variations in EPP and EW between the front and back sides except in April and May. AV had a significant (p = 0.006) positive effect (Beta = 0.346) on EW on the front side. On the back side, AV had a significant (p = 0.001) positive effect (Beta = 0.474) on EW, while it negatively influenced (p = 0.027) EPP (Beta = − 0.281). However, temperature, RH%, and THI had no impact and could not serve as predictors for EPP or EW on either farm side. The humoral immune response to NDV was consistent across microclimates, highlighting the resilience of hens. Histopathological examination revealed characteristic NDV-associated lesions, with no significant differences between the microclimates. This study underscores the significance of optimizing microclimate conditions to enhance laying performance by providing tailored environmental management strategies based on seasonal variations, ensuring consistent airflow, particularly near cooling pads and exhaust fans, and reinforcing the importance of biosecurity measures under field challenges with continuous monitoring and adjustment. A simple, one-pot method was designed for preparing nanocomposite material and its potential applications for water remediation. X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transform infrared, scanning, and transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and derivative thermogravimetry, and N2 adsorption and desorption isotherm techniques were used to examine the chemical and physical characteristics of the prepared nanomaterials. The developed nano-sized sorbent has a good surface area of about 106.788 m2 g−1. The synthesized nanocomposite was employed as a sorbent to remove several heavy metals, such as Cd(II), Cu(II), Fe(III), Pb(II), Mn(II), and Cr(VI), and different pesticides (e.g., Diazinon, Parathion Methyl, Malathion, Parathion ethyl, Epoxide, DDE, Dieldrin, and Aldrin). The removal efficiencies were found to be in the range of 9.52–94.8%, 23.14–99.40%, and 8.91–85.50% for pesticides, heavy metals, and physical contaminants, respectively. In addition, the sorption capacities of the different metals ranged from 2.31 to 9.94 mg g−1, and from 2.67 to 28.00 mg g−1 for different pesticides. In this study, we determined the refractive index of the air at different pressures and temperatures using a home-built Mach–Zehnder interferometer. The pressure and temperature were controlled using a home-built gas flow system and a temperature controller. A He–Ne laser operating at wavelengths of 632.8 nm was used to illuminate the Mach–Zehnder interferometer to obtain interference fringes. The changes in the number of fringes that crosses the field of view were exploited to calculate the variation in the refractive index with temperature and pressure. Some refractive index-dependent physical constants such as the thermo-optical constant (refractive index temperature coefficient dn/dT), dielectric constant, molar refractivity, and molecular polarizability were calculated for the air at different temperatures and pressure. In the pressure (66–80 cmHg) and temperature (303–338 K) range, the refractive index, dielectric constant, molar refractivity, and molecular polarizability of the air were found to vary between 1.000189 ± 0.000006–1.000281 ± 0.000007, 1.000379 ± 0.000010–1.000562 ± 0.000014, 4.03396 ± 0.13693–4.42908 ± 0.10860 cm3/mol, and 2.01 ± 0.07 × 10–29–2.21 ± 0.05 × 10–29 m3, respectively. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is considered a severe disease mitigating lung physiological functions with high mortality outcomes, insufficient therapy, and pathophysiology pathways which is still not fully understood. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) derived from bone marrow play an important role in improving the function of organs suffering inflammation, oxidative stress, and immune reaction. It might also play a role in regenerative medicine, but that is still questionable. Additionally, Melatonin with its known antioxidative and anti-inflammatory impact is attracting attention nowadays as a useful treatment. We hypothesized that Melatonin may augment the effect of MSCs at the level of angiogenesis in COPD. In our study, the COPD model was established using cigarette smoking and lipopolysaccharide. The COPD rats were divided into four groups: COPD group, Melatonin-treated group, MSC-treated group, and combined treated group (Melatonin–MSCs). We found that COPD was accompanied by deterioration of pulmonary function tests in response to expiratory parameter affection more than inspiratory ones. This was associated with increased Hypoxia inducible factor-1α expression and vascular endothelial growth factor level. Consequently, there was increased CD31 expression indicating increased angiogenesis with massive enlargement of airspaces and thinning of alveolar septa with decreased mean radial alveolar count, in addition to, inflammatory cell infiltration and disruption of the bronchiolar epithelial wall with loss of cilia and blood vessel wall thickening. These findings were improved significantly when Melatonin and bone marrow-derived MSCs were used as a combined treatment proving the hypothesized target that Melatonin might augment MSCs aiming at vascular changes. The regulatory circuits dictating CD8+ T cell responsiveness versus exhaustion during anti-tumor immunity are incompletely understood. Here we report that tumor-infiltrating antigen-specific PD-1+ TCF-1− CD8+ T cells express the immunosuppressive cytokine Fgl2. Conditional deletion of Fgl2 specifically in mouse antigen-specific CD8+ T cells prolongs CD8+ T cell persistence, suppresses phenotypic and transcriptomic signatures of T cell exhaustion, and improves control of the tumor. In a mouse model of chronic viral infection, PD-1+ CD8+ T cell-derived Fgl2 also negatively regulates virus-specific T cell responses. In humans, CD8+ T cell-derived Fgl2 is associated with poorer survival in patients with melanoma. Mechanistically, the dampened responsiveness of WT Fgl2-expressing CD8+ T cells, when compared to Fgl2-deficient CD8+ T cells, is underpinned by the cell-intrinsic interaction of Fgl2 with CD8+ T cell-expressed FcγRIIB and concomitant caspase 3/7-mediated apoptosis. Our results thus illuminate a cell-autonomous regulatory axis by which PD-1+ CD8+ T cells both express the receptor and secrete its ligand in order to mediate suppression of anti-tumor and anti-viral immunity. Diffuse horizontal irradiance (DHI) forecasts are critical for adopting solar photovoltaic technology. Yet, they can lack reliability given the limited and uncertain meteorological data available for desert areas. This research develops a new sine cosine dipper throated optimization (SCDTO) technique, targeting DHI prediction even given such data constraints. SCDTO uniquely hybridizes sine cosine metaheuristics, adept at exploration, with dipper throat optimization, providing focused exploitation. This hybridization aims to create a robust ensemble model capable of delivering reliable DHI predictions despite climatic uncertainty. The ensemble model, employing various input combinations, was rigorously evaluated across multiple meteorological stations. The SCDTO algorithm exhibited remarkable performance improvements, yielding substantial reductions exceeding 93% in root mean squared error and 98% in mean absolute error at key stations in Morocco, including Tan-Tan, Zagora, Erfoud, and Oujda. Comparative analyses against established optimization algorithms consistently underscored the superior predictive capabilities of SCDTO. Visualizations, including box plots and histograms, demonstrated SCDTO's efficacy in minimizing prediction errors, particularly for Tan-Tan, Zagora, and Erfoud stations. Also, statistical validation through one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) further affirmed the significance of the proposed SCDTO method. Multifunctional cellulosic fibers are in high demand for use in a variety of applications. Functional cellulosic fibers obtained through green and sustainable approaches are getting special attention because of the need to limit the environmental impact of hazardous chemicals. Herein, a novel facile, efficient, and eco-friendly approach for multifunctional viscose fibers@Ag NPs (VF-Ag) was designed by a rapid, facile, and one-pot biosynthesis green route using guava leaf extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent. UV–Vis, TEM, SEM, EDX, FTIR, and XPS were used to analyze the formation of silver nanoparticles and their subsequent deposition on the surface of viscose fibers. The silver nanoparticles immobilized on the surface of viscose fibers endowed a yellow/brownish color to the fibers as well as improving the dyeing with reactive dye. The VF-Ag samples have multifunctional properties like protective activities against UV radiation and microorganisms, antioxidant activity, and sensor ability toward Hg2+. The results demonstrated that the UPF values of VF-Ag samples ranged from 280 to 355 compared to 103 for VF. The antioxidant activities of VF-Ag ranged from 79 to 85% compared to 9% for VF. VF-Ag samples exhibited excellent antimicrobial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, very good activities against yeast, and low activities against fungus. VF and VF-Ag were dyed using reactive dye (CI-reactive blue-19) at two color intensities (2.5, and 5%). The results show that the color of VF turned blue, while the color of VF-Ag turned greenish. The color strength of VF-Ag significantly increased with increasing silver content. Furthermore, VF-Ag showed high sensitivity to naked-eye colorimetric sensing for the detection of Hg2+. In straightforward, this innovative approach provides an easy, quick, and low-cost that will open the door for a range of versatile applications for modified viscose fibers in the fields of medical and analytical applications. Measurements of integrated and differential cross-sections for electroweak W±Z production in association with two jets (W±Zjj) in proton-proton collisions are presented. The data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider from 2015 to 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. The W±Zjj candidate events are reconstructed using leptonic decay modes of the gauge bosons. Events containing three identified leptons, either electrons or muons, and two jets are selected. Processes involving pure electroweak W±Zjj production at Born level are separated from W±Zjj production involving a strong coupling. The measured integrated fiducial cross-section of electroweak W±Zjj production per lepton flavour is σ WZjj − EW → ℓ ′ ν ll jj = 0.368 ± 0.037 (stat.) ± 0.059 (syst.) ± 0.003 (lumi.) fb, where ℓ and ℓ′ are either an electron or a muon. Respective cross-sections of electroweak and strong W±Zjj production are measured separately for events with exactly two jets or with more than two jets, and in three bins of the invariant mass of the two jets. The inclusive W±Zjj production cross-section, without separating electroweak and strong production, is also measured to be σ WZjj → ℓ ′ ν ll jj = 1.462 ± 0.063 (stat.) ± 0.118 (syst.) ± 0.012 (lumi.) fb, per lepton flavour. The inclusive W±Zjj production cross-section is measured differentially for several kinematic observables. The aim of this study was to develop nano-structured lipid carriers (NLCs) loaded with propolis which is a natural antifungal agent with a pronounced activity against resistant fungal strains as Candida albicans which is the primary cause of vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC), one of the common vaginitis that affects over 75% of females. In this study, NLCs carrying propolis within their framework were developed for bioavailability enhancement. Such systems were assessed through the examination of their entrapment efficiency (EE), release behaviour, physicochemical assessments, and transmission electron microscopy. High EE (above 95%) and homogeneity were observed in the systems; polydispersity index (PDI) values < 1. Additionally, they exhibited sustained release behaviour for up to 24 h with nano-sized particle size. Propolis NLCs (P1) showed efficient antioxidant activity as well as in vitro antifungal activity against fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans. Moreover, P1 showed a remarkable advantage in depositing propolis in the vaginal tissues and the in vivo study demonstrated that P1 significantly reduced the microbial viable count of Candida albicans after 3 days in the vaginal secretions of the group treated with the nano-formula in compare to the free drug group, with a significant alleviation of the reduced catalase activity in addition to the modulation of tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) secretion and downregulation of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression in a manner that was dose dependent. Additionally, normal histological structure of the vaginal tissue was observed in the nano-formula treated groups. Polymer gears are used in applications requiring small to moderate loads to effectively transmit power and use the limited place available as possible. Various commercial standards have been provided designers with the rating criteria and acquaintance of different polymer material properties for the process of design. However, the result was unsatisfactory in terms of economy, time, and the optimality of the product. Thus, classic and stochastic algorithms have been embraced to reach the best design of polymer gears. Taking advantage of the former and latter algorithm' methods, optimal design of gears could be attained with an increased gear life span and decreased failure modes. In this study, polyoxymethylene (POM) spur gear set has been optimized combining the mathematical model from plastic standards and hybrid optimization approach of multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) and sequential quadratic programming (SQP). Weight and power loss were the objective functions. Five design variables were optimized with the satisfaction of bending and contact stresses, temperature, wear, and deformation as constraints. Solutions of the problem were formulated as Pareto optimal set. The results of multi-objective were compared with previously published single-objective optimization. The results favored multi-objective optimization (82.67%, 31.39% reduction in weight and power loss respectively) as it gave the best applicable solution fitting in real life situations. The results also went hand in hand with literature confirming the efficiency of the proposed algorithm. Water quality is very dominant for humans, animals, plants, industries, and the environment. In the last decades, the quality of water has been impacted by contamination and pollution. In this paper, the challenge is to anticipate Water Quality Index (WQI) and Water Quality Classification (WQC), such that WQI is a vital indicator for water validity. In this study, parameters optimization and tuning are utilized to improve the accuracy of several machine learning models, where the machine learning techniques are utilized for the process of predicting WQI and WQC. Grid search is a vital method used for optimizing and tuning the parameters for four classification models and also, for optimizing and tuning the parameters for four regression models. Random forest (RF) model, Extreme Gradient Boosting (Xgboost) model, Gradient Boosting (GB) model, and Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost) model are used as classification models for predicting WQC. K-nearest neighbor (KNN) regressor model, decision tree (DT) regressor model, support vector regressor (SVR) model, and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) regressor model are used as regression models for predicting WQI. In addition, preprocessing step including, data imputation (mean imputation) and data normalization were performed to fit the data and make it convenient for any further processing. The dataset used in this study includes 7 features and 1991 instances. To examine the efficacy of the classification approaches, five assessment metrics were computed: accuracy, recall, precision, Matthews's Correlation Coefficient (MCC), and F1 score. To assess the effectiveness of the regression models, four assessment metrics were computed: Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Median Absolute Error (MedAE), Mean Square Error (MSE), and coefficient of determination (R2). In terms of classification, the testing findings showed that the GB model produced the best results, with an accuracy of 99.50% when predicting WQC values. According to the experimental results, the MLP regressor model outperformed other models in regression and achieved an R2 value of 99.8% while predicting WQI values. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Erigeron bonariensis is widely distributed throughout the world's tropics and subtropics. In folk medicine, E. bonariensis has historically been used to treat head and brain diseases. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most widespread form of dementia initiated via disturbances in brain function. Herein, the neuroprotective effect of the chemically characterized E. bonariensis ethanolic extract is reported for the first time in an AD animal model. Chemical profiling was conducted using UPLC–ESI-MS analysis. Female rats underwent ovariectomy (OVX) followed by 42 days of D-galactose (D-Gal) administration (150 mg/kg/day, i.p) to induce AD. The OVX/D-Gal-subjected rats received either donepezil (5 mg/kg/day) or E. bonariensis at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg/day, given 1 h prior to D-Gal. UPLC–ESI-MS analysis identified 42 chemicals, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, terpenes, and nitrogenous constituents. Several metabolites, such as isoschaftoside, casticin, velutin, pantothenic acid, xanthurenic acid, C18-sphingosine, linoleamide, and erucamide, were reported herein for the first time in Erigeron genus. Treatment with E. bonariensis extract mitigated the cognitive decline in the Morris Water Maze test and the histopathological alterations in cortical and hippocampal tissues of OVX/D-Gal-subjected rats. Moreover, E. bonariensis extract mitigated OVX/D-Gal-induced Aβ aggregation, Tau hyperphosphorylation, AChE activity, neuroinflammation (NF-κBp65, TNF-α, IL-1β), and apoptosis (Cytc, BAX). Additionally, E. bonariensis extract ameliorated AD by increasing α7-nAChRs expression, down-regulating GSK-3β and FOXO3a expression, and modulating Jak2/STAT3/NF-ĸB p65 and PI3K/AKT signaling cascades. These findings demonstrate the neuroprotective and memory-enhancing effects of E. bonariensis extract in the OVX/D-Gal rat model, highlighting its potential as a promising candidate for AD management. To effectively remove pharmaceuticals, nitroaromatic compounds, and dyes from wastewater, an efficient multifunctional material was created based on silver nanoparticles (Ag) and MIL-125-NH2 (MOF) immobilized on viscose fibers (VF) as a support substrate. Firstly, silver nanoparticles (Ag) were immobilized on the surface of viscose fibers (VF) via in situ synthesis using trisodium citrate (TSC) as a reducing agent to create (VF-Ag). Then, VF and VF-Ag were decorated with the titanium metal–organic framework MIL-125-NH2 (MOF) to create VF-MOF and VF-Ag-MOF. The influence of VF-Ag, VF-MOF, and VF-Ag-MOF on the sonocatalytic or sonophotocatalytic degradation of sulfa drugs was investigated. The results show that VF-Ag-MOF showed excellent sonocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic activity towards the degradation of sulfa drugs compared to VF-Ag and VF-MOF. Furthermore, sonophotodegradation showed a dramatic enhancement in the efficiency of degradation of sulfa drugs compared to sonodegradation. The sonophotodegradation degradation percentage of sulfanilamide, sulfadiazine, and sulfamethazine drugs in the presence of VF-Ag-MOF was 65, 90, and 95 after 45 min of ultrasonic and visible light irradiation. The catalytic activity of VF-Ag, VF-MOF, and VF-Ag-MOF was evaluated through the conversion of p-nitrophenol (4-NP) to p-aminophenol (4-AP). The results demonstrate that VF-Ag-MOF had the highest catalytic activity, followed by VF-Ag and VF-MOF. The conversion percentage of 4-NP to 4-AP was 69%. The catalytic or photocatalytic effects of VF-Ag, VF-MOF, and VF-Ag-MOF on the elimination of methylene blue (MB) dye were investigated. The results demonstrate that VF-Ag-MOF showed high efficiency in removing the MB dye through the reduction (65%) or photodegradation (71%) after 60 min. VF-Ag-MOF composites structure–activity relationships represent that doping within silver NPs enhanced the photocatalytic activity of MIL-125-NH2, which could be explained as follows: (i) Due to the formation of a Schottky barrier at the junction between MIL-125-NH2 and Ag NPs, the photogenerated electrons in the conduction band of MIL-125-NH2 were supposed to be quickly transferred to the valence band of the Ag NPs, and subsequently, the electrons were transferred to the conduction band of Ag NPs. This considerable electron transferring process, which is reported as Z scheme heterojunction, can efficiently suppress the recombination of electron/hole pairs in VF-Ag-MIL-125-NH2 composites. (ii) Sufficient separation between the photogenerated charge carriers (holes and electrons) and avoiding their recombination enhanced the photocatalytic activity of composites. Improvements in drinking water quality (DWQ) can lead, according to some estimates, to a 10% reduction of the world's disease load. The drinking water distribution system (DWDS) plays a crucial role in influencing DWQ and can contribute to the emergence of poultry-related epidemics. This study aims to monitor the variations in DWQ throughout the seasons within the DWDS of Egyptian poultry farms experiencing epidemics. The study assessed DWQ at four different points along the DWDS, including the water source (WS), water tank (WT), broiler drinker (BD), and layer drinker (LD), across 86 farms. Statistical analysis was employed to establish correlations between DWQ and the sampling points within the DWDS, as well as between water temperature (Tw.C°), ambient temperature (Ta.C°), and microbial DWQ. The survey revealed significant differences between Tw.C° and Ta.C°, with notable effect sizes (d = 0.89–1). Additionally, the results revealed significant differences in physicochemical DWQ between WS and house drinkers (HD), with medium to large effect sizes (d = 0.56–0.85). Furthermore, significant differences were identified in microbial DWQ between winter and summer, with a small to large effect size (d = 0.40–0.87). Notably, we recorded significant differences in microbial DWQ between WS and WT, with a small to medium effect size (d = 0.40–0.61), and between WT and BD, with a small to medium effect size (d = 0.48–0.53). Additionally, we found significant differences in microbial DWQ between WS and LD, with a medium effect size (d = 0.59–0.68). In conclusion, Tw.C° is influenced by seasonal variations in Ta.C°. While the physicochemical DWQ was unaffected by seasonal temperature variations, it was significantly impacted by the DWDS from WS to HD. Key message: Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi generated systemic acquired resistance in cucumber to Zucchini yellow mosaic virus, indicating their prospective application in the soil as a sustainable, environmentally friendly approach to inhibit the spread of pathogens. The wide spread of plant pathogens affects the whole world, causing several plant diseases and threatening national food security as it disrupts the quantity and quality of economically important crops. Recently, environmentally acceptable mitigating practices have been required for sustainable agriculture, restricting the use of chemical fertilizers in agricultural areas. Herein, the biological control of Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) plants using arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi was investigated. Compared to control plants, ZYMV-infected plants displayed high disease incidence (DI) and severity (DS) with various symptoms, including severe yellow mosaic, mottling and green blisters of leaves. However, AM fungal inoculation exhibited 50% inhibition for these symptoms and limited DS to 26% as compared to non-colonized ones. The detection of ZYMV by the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay technique exhibited a significant reduction in AM-inoculated plants (5.23-fold) compared with non-colonized ones. Besides, mycorrhizal root colonization (F%) was slightly reduced by ZYMV infection. ZYMV infection decreased all growth parameters and pigment fractions and increased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content, however, these parameters were significantly enhanced and the MDA content was decreased by AM fungal colonization. Also, the protein, proline and antioxidant enzymes (POX and CAT) were increased with ZYMV infection with more enhancements due to AM root colonization. Remarkably, defence pathogenesis-related (PR) genes such as PR-a, PR-b, and PR-10 were quickly expressed in response to AM treatment. Our findings demonstrated the beneficial function of AM fungi in triggering the plant defence against ZYMV as they caused systemic acquired resistance in cucumber plants and supported their potential use in the soil as an environment-friendly method of hindering the spread of pathogenic microorganisms sustainably. The present work demonstrates the construction and electrochemical characterization of novel disposable screen-printed carbon sensors integrated with functionalized MIL-53-NH2 metal–organic framework cross-linked with crown ethers and calixarene macrocyclic compounds for sensitive differential pulse voltammetric determination of lead ions in tap, surface water and biological fluid samples. The electroanalytical parameters were optimized regarding the nature of the electrode modifier, supporting electrolyte, the working pH value, scan rate, deposition potential, deposition time, reproducibility of measurement and the operational lifetime. Working electrodes dropcasted with MIL-53-NH2-dibenzo-24-crown-8-ether nanocomposite (MOFCE24) showed the proper performance within the lead concentration ranging from 13.75 to 217.83 ppb with LOD and LOQ values of 3.18 and 9.62 ppb, respectively. The synergistic effect of the metal–organic frameworks as transducer and dibenzo 24-crown-8-ether as sensing elements accelerates the electron transfer process at the electrode surface and improves the sensor selectivity through complexation of the lead ions with the crown ether moiety. The fabricated sensors showed high measuring reproducibility with long operational life time (60 days), which can be attributed to the formation of cross-linked ionophore/metal–organic framework with limited leaching of the sensing element in the measuring solution. The introduced sensors were utilized for the onsite voltammetric determination of lead in environmental and biological samples with acceptable average recoveries comparable with the graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometric method. Background: Differentiating acute myocarditis (AMY) from dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in a patient presenting with acute heart failure and poor systolic function is of utmost importance to initiate timely anti-inflammatory treatment in AMY. Using cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) or endomyocardial biopsies (EMB) as gold standards might be limited due to the likelihood of hemodynamic compromise. Eccentric myocardial remodeling as measured by sphericity index (SPI) might be useful in differentiating AMY from DCM, due to the progressive increase in transverse LV diameter in DCM. The primary outcome parameter of our study was to test the diagnostic accuracy of SPI in the differentiation of AMY from DCM, while the secondary outcome parameter was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of SPI to troponin I in the same context. For this purpose, we conducted a retrospective study involving a chart review of the files of sixty patients admitted with acute heart failure due to hypokinetic left ventricle in our hospital. Patients were divided after CMR imaging into two groups: group 1 with AMY (n = 30) and group 2 with DCM (n = 30). Demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients, including heart rate, need for mechanical ventilation, use of milrinone, epinephrine and norepinephrine, troponin I, and 2D-derived sphericity index, were collected from patients' files. Results: Patients with AMY had a higher need for mechanical ventilation inopressors and vasopressors; 73% of AMY patients required mechanical ventilation and epinephrine use, compared to less than 50% of DCM patients. Troponin I elevation was more marked in AMY compared to DCM patients (0.25 ± 0.04 vs. 0.21 ± 0.03, respectively). SPI was significantly higher in DCM compared to AMY cases, denoting a spherical configuration of the myocardium acquired due to progressive remodeling, because of the chronicity of the pathology. ROC analysis revealed that an SPI ≤ 0.38 was 100% sensitive in differentiating DCM from AMY, compared to a 53% sensitivity with the commonly used troponin I. Conclusion: AMY diagnosis can be achieved by the assessment of sphericity index rather than troponin I. The bedside nature and noninvasiveness of SPI should reshape the practice in this context. In this paper, the problem of scheduling smart homes (SHs) residential loads is considered aiming to minimize electricity bills and enhance the user comfort. The problem is addressed as a multi-objective constraint mixed-integer optimization problem (CP-MIP) to model the constrained load operation. As the CP-MIP optimization problem is non-convex, a novel hybrid search technique, that combines the Relaxation and Rounding (RnR) approach and metaheuristic algorithms to enhance the accuracy and relevance of decision variables, is proposed. This search technique is implemented through two stages: the relaxation stage in which a metaheuristic technique is applied to get the optimal rational solution of the problem. Whereas, the second stage is the rounding process which is applied via stochastic rounding approach to provide a good-enough feasible solution. The scheduling process has been done under time-of-use (ToU) dynamic electricity pricing scheme and two powering modes (i.e., powering from the main grid only or powering from a grid-tied photovoltaic (PV) residential power system), in addition, four metaheuristics [i.e., Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (BPSO), Self-Organizing Hierarchical PSO (SOH-PSO), JAYA algorithm, and Comprehensive Learning JAYA algorithm (CL-JAYA)] have been utilized. The results reported in this study verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique. In the 1st powering mode, the electricity bill reduction reaches 19.4% and 20.0% when applying the modified metaheuristics, i.e. SOH-PSO and CL-JAYA, respectively, while reaches 56.1%, and 54.7% respectively in the 2nd powering scenario. Background: Since inflammatory mediators play a crucial role in the pathophysiology of neonatal sepsis. Montelukast, as an anti-inflammatory drug, could be a beneficial therapy. In searching the literature, no previous research addressed the role of Montelukast in neonatal sepsis; hence, this study aimed to explore the adjuvant role of Montelukast in regulating the inflammatory response associated with neonatal sepsis and its associated effect on the clinical outcomes. Methods: An open-label, randomized controlled intervention trial conducted on 40 late preterm newborn infants (gestational age 340/7 to 366/7 weeks) admitted to NICU, with clinical evidence of sepsis. In the Montelukast group (n = 20), infants received oral Montelukast once daily for 10 days (infant's weight < 2 kg received 1.5 mg whereas > 2 kg received 2 mg) with antibiotics plus routine supportive care. In the routine care group (n = 20), infants received antibiotics plus routine supportive care. Primary outcome was the serum level of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha at day 10 of therapy. Secondary clinical and laboratory outcomes were reported along hospital admission. Results: Baseline characteristics were non-significantly different between both groups. After 10 days of therapy, TNF alpha level was significantly lower in the Montelukast group (80.73 ± 50.25 versus 119.54 ± 58.46; p = 0.03). There were non-significant differences between both groups regarding duration of NICU admission, antibiotics duration or modalities and duration of respiratory support. C-reactive protein didn't differ between both groups (p = 0.256). No documented significant adverse effects of Montelukast during the study period. Conclusions: In late preterm neonates with sepsis, 10 days of Montelukast therapy as an adjuvant to antibiotics lowered TNF alpha level without any impact on clinical outcomes. 'Bois noir' (BN) and flavescence dorèe (FD), the two main diseases of the grapevine yellows complex associated with genetically distinct phytoplasmas, have a complex epidemiology including multiple insect vectors and reservoir plants. This study investigated the presence of BN and FD phytoplasmas in nine groundcover plant species commonly utilized for inter-row vineyard green manure in Franciacorta (North Italy). The activities conducted in 2020 included monitoring and sampling groundcover plant species and symptomatic grapevines in September, and phytoplasma identification and typing by amplification and sequence analyses of stamp and map genes. Molecular analyses identified BN phytoplasma (strains carrying the stamp gene sequence variants St5, St19, St30) and FD phytoplasma (strains carrying the map gene sequence variant M54) in 72% and 28% of symptomatic grapevines, respectively. BN phytoplasma strains St5 and St30 were found also in Eruca sativa, Vicia sativa, and Polygonum fagopyrum. FD phytoplasma strain M54 was found also in Vicia faba, Trifolium incarnatum, and Polygonum fagopyrum. These results reinforced the evidence of the increasing range of BN and FD phytoplasma alternative plant hosts and suggested a criterium for the selection of the groundcover plant species utilized for green manure, excluding the ones putatively involved in BN and FD diffusion.
