The study of the α-particle energy distributions associated with ND and SD states in 151,152Dy has been carried out. The Dy isotopes were produced in the reaction 37Cl +123Sb at 191 MeV via the (α5n) and (α4n) channels, respectively. In 151Dy the α-particle energy distributions associated to ND and SD are very different from each other, both at the low and high energy sides inducing a difference of 3 MeV in the α-particle mean energy. In 152Dy the situation is different; the α-particle spectral shapes are similar and a difference in the α-particle mean energy of only 0.7 MeV is deduced. The nucleusPb has been populated with theW+O reaction at 113 MeV. Two dipole γ-ray cascades have been observed using the EUROGAM spectrometer. A comprehensive level scheme related to these structures has been established. Multiparticle configurations are attributed to these high-spin structures from detailed comparison with the neighbouring nuclei,Hg,Pb andTl. The high spin state structure of the nucleusAc was investigated by means of theBi(C, 3 n) reaction. In beam γ ray spectroscopy was carried out using the Château de Cristal multidetector array. Gamma ray multipolarities were established by extracting directional correlation ratios from the Ge-Ge coincidence data and by intensity balance considerations. The level scheme, established up to 18 ħ above the lowest observed state, consists of three alternating parity bands. The data are interpreted in terms of the reflection asymmetric shapes of the nucleus. The analysis of the parity doublet candidates does not show the decrease of the parity splitting predicted for an odd-odd nucleus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Excited states ofAc have been investigated by means of theBi(C,3n) reaction and using the 'Château de Cristal' gamma ray facility. The observation of bands with alternating parity states reveals the reflection asymmetric nuclear shape ofAc. The extracted B(E1)/B(E2) ratios display a clear spin dependence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recent data from the EUROGAM array have revealed the population of the yrast superdeformed (SD) band ofHg in the α4n exit channel of theO+W reaction at 113 MeV beam energy. The nucleus assignment was made on the basis of the SD band transition energies, and the observation of characteristic X-rays and lowlying yrast γ-transition ofHg in coincidence with the SD band γ-rays.
