Introduction: Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) refer to a broad range of diseases including developmental delay, intellectual disability, epilepsy, autism spectrum disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder caused by dysfunctions in tightly controlled brain development. The genetic backgrounds of NDDs are quite heterogeneous; to date, recessive or dominant variations in numerous genes have been implicated. Herein, we present a large consanguineous family from Turkiye, who has been suffering from NDDs with two distinct clinical presentations. Methods and results: Combined in-depth genetic approaches led us to identify a homozygous frameshift variant in NALCN related to NDD and expansion of dodecamer repeat in CSTB related to Unverricht-Lundborg disease (ULD). Additionally, we sought to functionally analyze the NALCN variant in terms of mRNA expression level and current alteration. We have both detected a decrease in the level of premature stop codon-bearing mRNA possibly through nonsense-mediated mRNA decay mechanism and also an increased current in patch-clamp recordings for the expressed truncated protein. Conclusion: In conclusion, increased consanguinity may lead to the revealing of distinct rare neurogenetic diseases in a single family. Exome sequencing is generally considered the first-tier diagnostic test in individuals with NDD. Heavy metal concentrations, which have increased continuously in the environment this century due to anthropogenic factors, severely threaten human and environmental health. Antimony (Sb) is one of the most toxic and harmful heavy metals in terms of human and environmental health. Therefore, the priority research subjects are monitoring the alteration of Sb pollution in the airborne and reducing pollution. This study was conducted to conclude the proper species to monitor and drop airborne Sb contamination on trees grown in Düzce, the 5th most polluted European city. This study examined samples taken from Pseudotsuga menziesii, Cupressus arizonica, Pinus pinaster, Picea orientalis, and Cedrus atlantica, and the Sb concentration changes based on tree species, route, tissue, and age range in the last 40 years were evaluated. The study hypothesizes that Sb concentration varies depending on (1) tree species, (2) direction, (3) plant tissue, and (4) age range, all confirmed in this study. In conclusion, the maximum concentrations were achieved in the outer bark and east (5.45 µg g−1) and north directions (6.72 µg g−1), with high traffic density. In addition, the mining and industrial places (sources of metal pollution) are not close to the study area. Therefore, it was concluded that traffic pollution was the primary source of Sb pollution in the study area. The study revealed that C. arizonica is the most suitable species for monitoring and reducing the change in Sb pollution because the highest Sb concentration (4.47 µg g−1) in wood (the largest organ) was obtained in C. arizonica. Aim: The availability of disease-modifying therapies and newborn screening programs for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) has generated an urgent need for reliable prognostic biomarkers to classify patients according to disease severity. We aim to identify cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) prognostic protein biomarkers in CSF samples of SMA patients collected at baseline (T0), and to describe proteomic profile changes and biological pathways influenced by nusinersen before the sixth nusinersen infusion (T302). Methods: In this multicenter retrospective longitudinal study, we employed an untargeted liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS)-based proteomic approach on CSF samples collected from 61 SMA patients treated with nusinersen (SMA1 n=19, SMA2 n=19, SMA3 n=23) at T0 at T302. The Random Forest (RF) machine learning algorithm and pathway enrichment analysis were applied for analysis. Results: The RF algorithm, applied to the protein expression profile of naïve patients, revealed several proteins that could classify the different types of SMA according to their differential abundance at T0. Analysis of changes in proteomic profiles identified a total of 147 differentially expressed proteins after nusinersen treatment in SMA1, 135 in SMA2, and 289 in SMA3. Overall, nusinersen-induced changes on proteomic profile were consistent with i) common effects observed in allSMA types (i.e. regulation of axonogenesis), and ii) disease severity-specific changes, namely regulation of glucose metabolism in SMA1, of coagulation processes in SMA2, and of complement cascade in SMA3. Conclusions: This untargeted LC-MS proteomic profiling in the CSF of SMA patients revealed differences in protein expression in naïve patients and showed nusinersen-related modulation in several biological processes after 10 months of treatment. Installation noise is a dominant source associated with aircraft jet engines. Recent studies show that linear wavepacket models can be employed for prediction of installation noise, which suggests that linear control strategies can also be adopted for mitigation of it. We present here a simple model to test different control approaches and highlight the potential restrictions on a successful noise control in an actual jet. The model contains all the essential elements for a realistic representation of the actual control problem: a stochastic wavepacket is obtained via a linear Ginzburg-Landau model; the effect of the wing trailing edge is accounted for by introducing a semi-infinite half plane near the wavepacket; and the actuation is achieved by placing a dipolar point source at the trailing edge, which models a piezoelectric actuator. An optimal causal resolvent-based control method is compared against the classical wave-cancellation method. The effect of the causality constraint on the control performance is tested by placing the sensor at different positions. We demonstrate that when the sensor is not positioned sufficiently upstream of the trailing edge, which can be the case for the actual control problem due to geometric restrictions, causality reduces the control performance. The NiO/Ag/NiO (NAN) structure, a member of the oxide/metal/oxide (OMO) structures, was developed as an alternative to conventional transparent electrodes. The fabrication process employed combination of RF-magnetron sputter and e-beam evaporation techniques, and to optimize the electrode performance, the Ag layer thickness within the NAN structures was varied between 4 and 20 nm. The resulting configurations were evaluated through the Fraser-Cook and Haacke figures of merit (FoM). The optimized structure exhibited high optical transmittance of 75% and a low sheet resistance (RS) of ∼5 Ω/□. Compared to a commercial sample of indium tin oxide (ITO) coated polyethylene terephthalate (PET), the NAN/PET structures show higher Fraser-Cook FoM, closely aligned with the Haacke FoM, owing to their lower RS values. In addition, the flexural resistance of the electrodes was assessed by subjecting the samples to 10,000 bending cycles. Following this test, the RS value of ITO/PET increased 26.3 times to 3312.89 Ω/□, while the NAN/PET only increased 1.25 times to 7.82 Ω/□. Even the least performing NAN sample, deposited on polyethylene naphthalate (NAN/PEN), experienced a moderate increase in resistance, stabilizing at 59.93 Ω/□. This study explores the time-varying effects of crude oil prices (OP) and gold prices (GP) on the Turkish stock market using a weekly data series from November 26, 1989 to July 10, 2022. For this purpose, we develop a new hybrid technique, the rolling window-based nonparametric quantile causality test, which allows the investigation of time-varying causality at various quantiles. The results reveal that (i) under all market conditions, there is time-varying causality from crude OP and GP to Turkish stock market returns (SMR) and volatility. (ii) The causal effects of both crude OP and GP on stock market volatility are larger than their causal effects on SMR. (iii) The crude OP have a greater impact on SMR than the GP, while the GP has a greater impact on stock market volatility than the crude OP. (iv) Both crude OP and GP have the strongest (least) causal impact on SMR and volatility under normal (bullish) market conditions. (v) Crude OP and GP have a greater impact on stock market volatility than on stock returns under all market conditions. Overall, our results highlight that OP and GP have a strong impact on the Turkish stock market, and this impact varies by returns and volatility. Purpose: Despite several factors that may have been associated with poor disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), only a few studies have evaluated the prognostic factors affecting DFS in MTC patients. Therefore, this study evaluated the prognostic factors affecting DFS, in a large number of patients with MTC. Methods: Patients treated for MTC were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were stratified as having persistent/recurrent disease and no evidence of disease (NOD) at the last follow-up. The factors affecting DFS after the initial therapy and during the follow-up period were investigated. Results: This study comprised 257 patients [females 160 (62.3%), hereditary disease 48 (18.7%), with a mean follow-up time of 66.8 ± 48.5 months]. Persistent/recurrent disease and NOD were observed in 131 (51%) and 126 (49%) patients, respectively. In multivariate analysis, age > 55 (HR: 1.65, p = 0.033), distant metastasis (HR: 2.41, p = 0.035), CTN doubling time (HR: 2.7, p = 0.031), and stage III vs. stage II disease (HR 3.02, p = 0.048) were independent predictors of persistent/recurrent disease. Although 9 (8%) patients with an excellent response after the initial therapy experienced a structural recurrence, the absence of an excellent response was the strongest predictor of persistent/recurrent disease (HR: 5.74, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The absence of an excellent response after initial therapy is the strongest predictor of a worse DFS. However, a significant proportion of patients who achieve an excellent response could experience a structural recurrence. In this study, the impacts of LEDs on the phytoremediation of arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) by Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst. were investigated, along with the examination of the biochemical characteristics of plants exposed to metal-induced toxicity. In vitro multiple and rapid plant propagations were successfully achieved by adding 1.0 mg/L 6-Benzyl amino purine (BAP) to the Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal salt and vitamin culture medium. For plant-based remediation experiments, different concentrations of As (0–1.0 mg/L) and Hg (0–0.2 mg/L) were added to the water environment, and trials were conducted for four different application periods (1–21 days). White, red, and blue LEDs, as well as white fluorescent light, were preferred as the light environment. The results revealed that LED lights were more effective for heavy metal accumulation, with red LED light significantly enhancing the plant's phytoremediation capacity compared to other LED applications. Moreover, when examining biochemical stress parameters such as levels of photosynthetic pigments, protein concentrations, and lipid peroxidation, plants under red LED light showed better results. Generally, the lowest results were obtained under white fluorescent light. These findings contribute to phytoremediation studies by highlighting the integration of LED lights, thereby enabling the development of a more effective, cost-efficient, and environmentally sustainable remediation system compared to other treatment methods. Natural stones are widely used environmentally appropriate building materials as dimension stone both for exterior cladding and floor coverings in urban areas. Depending on their solar reflectivity, these materials may absorb more solar radiation, especially with noontime summer sunlight exposure, which may cause both increasing cooling costs in commercial buildings and overheating of a city with the formation of urban heat islands. Solar reflectance index (SRI) is defined as the ability of a surface to reject solar heat which tends to change with physical, chemical and biological degradation processes by varying solar reflectance (SR) and thermal emissivity (TE) values. Weakening of the stone matrix structure by physical degradation mechanism, such as thermal shock (T-S) cycles mostly have significant impact on SRI. Within the scope of this study, SRI values were calculated before and after cyclic T-S by measuring the optical properties such as SR and TE values of 30 selected sedimentary and metamorphic originated carbonate-based natural stone types. The changes in surface properties such as color, roughness, and gloss, that may have an impact on the SRI values were also analyzed. In addition, a multivariate regression analysis was established to predict SRI value from such properties with a high degree of accuracy. Finally, it was found that, initial SRI values of 9 natural stone types (mostly metamorphic originated) have been increased considerably by cyclic T-S and tend to increase their ability to reduce urban temperatures by higher SRI values, one of the most important selection criteria in energy consumption for natural stones. Background: The advancements in wearable technology have made the detection of arrhythmias more accessible. While smartwatches are commonly used to detect patients with atrial fibrillation, their effectiveness in the differential diagnosis of supraventricular tachycardias (SVT) lacks consensus. Methods: A study was conducted on 47 patients with documented SVTs on a 12-lead ECG. All patients in the cohort underwent electrophysiology study with induction of SVT. A 6th generation Apple Watch was used to record ECG tracings during baseline sinus rhythm and during induced SVT. Cardiology residents and attending cardiologists evaluated these recordings to diagnose the differential diagnosis of SVT. Results: The evaluation revealed 27 cases of typical atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT), 11 cases of atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia (AVRT), and 9 cases of atrial tachycardia/atrial flutter (AT/AFL) among the induced tachycardias. Attending physicians achieved an accuracy of 66.0 to 76.6%, and residents demonstrated accuracy rates between 68.1 and 74.5%. Interrater reliability was assessed using Fleiss's Kappa method, resulting in a moderate level of agreement between residents (Kappa = 0.465, p < 0.001, 95% CI 0.30–0.63) and attendings (Kappa = 0.519, p < 0.001, 95% CI 0.35–0.68). The overall Kappa value was 0.417 (p < 0.001, 95% CI 0.34–0.49). Conclusions: Smartwatch recordings demonstrate moderate feasibility in diagnosing SVT when following a pre-specified algorithm. Plants rhizosphere and bacterial communities' association offer great advantages for its adaptation to adverse conditions in desert ecosystems. In the Sonoran Desert, Mexico, there is low diversity of species due to the significant incidence of high salinity, drought and extreme temperatures. However, Parkinsonia aculeata L. is an endemic species adapted to these adverse environmental conditions. Here, we aimed to isolate and molecularly characterize bacterial isolates associated with P. aculeata rhizosphere grown in saline soils (BL site) and drought (RT site). A total of thirty-three bacteria isolates from the P. aculeata rhizosphere were identified by 16S rDNA sequencing finding members of the genera: Bacillus, Enterobacter, Priestia, Sinomonas, Micrococcus, Kocuria, Staphylococcus, Streptomyces, Arthrobacter and Peribacillus. Priestia followed by Bacillus and Staphylococcus genus showed the major abundance percentages in both sites. The isolated strains were previously reported to exhibit plant beneficial traits, promote plant growth preserve the soil, provide an opportunity for the development of environmentally friendly alternatives for agriculture and to be used as experimental models to study drought/salt mitigation. Authorities have long proved the utility of bioindicators in monitoring the state of environmental pollution. Some biological indicators can measure environmental pollutant levels, and many tree species have been tested for suitability for monitoring purposes. The differences in morphological characteristics in the trees have demonstrated the effects of human activities on different materials. Measuring bark and wood biomass from contaminated sites was identified and directly compared with those from a clean site or areas characterized by distinct contamination sources. However, preliminary results demonstrate the approach's potential in the realization of strategies for disease control and promoting health to reduce environmental and health inequalities in at-risk urban areas. Picea orientalis L. and Cedrus atlantica Endl., especially their bark, can be regarded as a more robust storage of Cu (37.95 mg/kg) and Mn (188.25 mg/kg) than Pinus pinaster, Cupressus arizonica, and Pseudotsuga menziesii, which and is therefore a better bioindicator for Cu and Mn pollution. Considering the total concentrations as a result of the study, the pollution is thought to be caused by environmental problems and traffic in the region. The deposition of Cu, Mn, Ni, and Zn elements was found P. menziesii (60, 443, 58, and 258 mg/kg) and P. orientalis (76, 1684, 41, and 378 mg/kg) and seems to reflect atmospheric quite clearly compared to P. pinaster, C. arizonica, and C. atlantica. Ni and Zn concentrations have significantly increased since 1983, and P. menziesii and P. orientalis can be potentially valuable bioindicators for emphasizing polluted fields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: This study investigates the roles of HIF-2α, hepcidin, and ghrelin in iron deficiency anemia (IDA), the most widespread nutritional disorder globally. Material and methods: Fifty IDA patients (18–50 years, BMI 19–25) and 40 healthy volunteers were studied. Hemoglobin, ferritin, hepcidin, HIF-2α, and ghrelin levels were analyzed. Results: IDA patients showed lower hemoglobin, ferritin, hepcidin, and ghrelin levels than the control group, but HIF-2α levels were similar. Positive correlations were observed in both groups between hepcidin and HIF-2α (p < 0.001), hepcidin and ghrelin (p < 0.001), and HIF-2α and ghrelin (p < 0.001). Hemoglobin was correlated positively with HIF-2α, and ferritin was correlated positively with HIF-2α in the patient group. Conclusion: The study suggests that the low hepcidin levels in IDA patients enhance iron absorption. The lack of significant HIF-2α level differences may be due to the absence of chronic hypoxia in current hemoglobin levels of IDA patients. In line with global warming, decarbonization of economies is a much-discussed topic in climate policies and economic forecasts. However, estimating the output cost of decarbonizing economies has not received attention. Therefore, this study examines the costs of decarbonization in the USA, the leading country in the global economy, by proposing a "Green Sacrifice Ratio" based on estimating the output costs of emission abatement policy. To do this, the study employs Structural Vector Autoregression analysis to measure the Green Sacrifice Ratio in the USA from 1973/Q1 to 2023/Q2. The empirical results show that a permanent 1% reduction in carbon emissions results in a cumulative loss of 0.0001% of output in the USA. The implication is that the cost of decarbonization in the USA can be lower than the economic burden of environmental pollution. Therefore, policymakers in the USA should take determined actions to prevent irreversible environmental degradation and avoid heavy economic costs in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) are potential targets for T cell-based immunotherapy approaches in cutaneous melanoma. BNT111, an investigational lipoplex-formulated mRNA-based therapeutic cancer vaccine encoding melanoma TAAs NY-ESO-1, tyrosinase, MAGE-A3, and TPTE, is undergoing clinical testing in adults. Expression of these TAAs in pediatric melanoma is unclear but is a prerequisite for feasibility of this treatment approach in children with melanoma. Our main objective was to characterize expression of those TAAs in pediatric melanomas compared to control cohorts. In this retrospective case control study, protein and transcript expression of NY-ESO-1, tyrosinase, MAGE-A3, and TPTE were analyzed in a cohort of 25 pediatric melanomas, 31 melanomas of young adults, 29 adult melanomas, and 30 benign melanocytic nevi in children using immunohistochemical staining and digital pathology (QuPath) and reverse transcription quantitative PCR. Based on IHC analysis, pediatric melanomas expressed tyrosinase (100.0%), TPTE (44.0%), MAGE-A3 (12.0%), and NY-ESO-1 (8.0%). Young adult melanomas expressed tyrosinase (96.8%), NY-ESO-1 (19.4%), MAGE-A3 (19.4%), and TPTE (3.2%). Adult melanomas expressed tyrosinase (86.2%), MAGE-A3 (75.9%), NY-ESO-1 (48.3%), and TPTE (48.3%). Childhood melanocytic nevi only expressed tyrosinase (93.3%). Expression prevalence of individual TAAs did not differ between subtypes of pediatric melanoma, and no association with prognosis was found. All four TAAs were expressed in pediatric melanoma, albeit NY-ESO-1 and MAGE-A3 to a lesser extent than in adult melanoma. Background: The increasing global incidence and prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) necessitates an investigation into the potential influence of environmental risk factors on its origin. Aim: This multicenter case-control study aimed to investigate potential environmental risk factors contributing to IBD development in Turkey. Methods: The study included 156 Crohn's disease (CD), 277 ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, and 468 controls (matched for age and gender) from six hospitals' gastroenterology departments. Data collection relied on the International Organization of IBD's questionnaire on environmental factors. Each environmental factor was initially analyzed using univariate and subsequently multivariate logistic regression models. Results: In the multivariate model, regular coffee consumption was associated with decreased odds for both CD (OR 0.28; 95% CI 0.14–0.55) and UC (OR 0.25; 95% CI 0.15–0.42). Stress was associated with UC (OR 3.27; 95% CI 1.76–6.10) and CD (OR 4.40; 95% CI 2.12–9.10) development. A history of childhood infectious diseases (gastroenteritis, upper respiratory tract infections, etc.) raised the odds for both CD (OR 9.45; 95% CI 2.51–35.6) and UC (OR 7.56; 95% CI 1.57–36.4). Conversely, consuming well/spring water (OR 0.22; 95% CI 0.10–0.50) and childhood antibiotic use (OR 0.41; 95% CI 0.18–0.93) showed a positive association against UC. Increased consumption of refined sugar and industrial food products emerged as risk factors for IBD. Smoking increased the risk for CD (OR 2.38; 95% CI 1.16–4.91), while ex-smoking increased the risk for UC (OR 3.16; 95% CI 1.19–8.37). Conclusions: This study represents the first multicenter case–control study in Turkey examining the effects of environmental factors on IBD. It revealed that coffee consumption is positively associated, while stress and childhood infection-related diseases are risk factors. Objectives: The inferior and middle turbinates have crucial roles in nasal function, but their enlargement can cause obstructive effects, which can lead to breathing difficulties, sleep and smell disorders, and headaches. Partial turbinectomy is a common surgical technique used to address this issue during septorhinoplasty, but it carries risks such as empty nose syndrome. A clinical trial was designed to evaluate the functional outcomes of middle and inferior partial turbinectomy with a holistic approach. Methods: Patients with NOSE questionnaire scores of 30 or higher, and grade 4 inferior turbinates and/or advanced middle concha bullosa were included. Patients completed questionnaires related to breathing, empty nose syndrome, headache, and olfaction preoperatively and at one-month, three-month, six-month, and first-year periods postoperatively. The partial excisions of the inferior and middle turbinates were carried out with serrated scissors while trying to preserve adequate turbinate size to maintain function. Results: This study found that NOSE scores, headache frequency, and severity improved postoperatively. The olfactory-related quality of life of the patients with impairments in this area significantly improved found to be improved at all postoperative evaluations. None of the patients experienced prolonged bleeding requiring surgical intervention. No cases of anosmia and empty nose syndrome were reported. Conclusion: Partial turbinectomy of middle and inferior turbinates during septorhinoplasty can alleviate symptoms of turbinate hypertrophy, such as breathing issues, olfactory disorders, and headaches. It is an easy, reliable, and efficient surgical maneuver. Proper technique can minimize the risk of empty nose syndrome and other complications of turbinectomy surgery. Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related mortality, chemo-resistance, and toxicity limit treatment. The focus is on innovative combined phytotherapy to improve treatment outcomes. Our aim was to investigate the potential effects of daidzein nanosuspension (DZ-NS) and its combination with cisplatin (CIS) on A549 non-small lung cancer cells. Cytotoxicity was investigated using MTT and Chou-Talalay methods. Oxidative, apoptotic, and inflammatory markers were analyzed by ELISA and qRT-PCR. The IC50 value for DZ-NS was 25.23 µM for 24 h and was lower than pure DZ (IC50 = 835 µM for pure DZ). DZ-NS (at IC50x2 and IC50 values) showed synergistic cytotoxicity with CIS. The cells treated with DZ-NS had low TOS and OSI levels. However, DZ-NS failed to regulate Cas3 and TGF-β1 activation in A549 cells. MMP-9 gene expression was significantly suppressed in DZ-NS-treated cells, especially in combination therapy. DZ represents a potential combination option for the treatment of lung cancer, and its poor toxicokinetic properties limit its clinical use. To overcome these limitations, the effects of the nanosuspension formulation were tested. DZ-NS showed a cytotoxic effect on A549 cells and optimized the therapeutic effect of CIS. This in vitro synergistic effect was mediated by suppression of MMP-9 and not by oxidative stress or Cas3-activated apoptosis. Energy transition is crucial for sustainable development, but its drivers have been neglected due to data limitations. Germany has adopted a low-carbon, secure, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly energy transition policy to achieve its 2050 carbon-neutrality goals. Despite the fact that the sub-components of energy have often been considered, to the author's knowledge, there is currently no study available that empirically examines the drivers of the energy transition in Germany. Therefore, the investigation examines the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT), research and development (R&D) investments in nuclear (NRD) and renewable (RRD) energy, and urbanization on the energy transition in Germany for the period 2000/Q1-2022/Q4. The results show that ICT, NRD, and RRD have an increasing impact, while urbanization hinders the energy transition. Accordingly, German policymakers make greater use of the increasing impacts of ICT and R&D investments to improve the energy transition and implement an urbanization plan to expand the use of green energy. Energy systems require radical changes due to the conflicting needs of combating climate change and meeting rising energy demands. These revolutionary decentralization, decarbonization, and digitalization techniques have ushered in a new global energy paradigm. Waves of disruption have been felt across the electricity industry as the digitalization journey in this sector has converged with advances in artificial intelligence (AI). However, there are risks involved. As AI becomes more established, new security threats have emerged. Among the most important is the cyber-physical protection of critical infrastructure, such as the power grid. This article focuses on dueling AI algorithms designed to investigate the trustworthiness of power systems’ cyber-physical security under various scenarios using the phasor measurement units (PMU) use case. Particularly in PMU operations, the focus is on areas that manage sensitive data vital to power system operators’ activities. The initial stage deals with anomaly detection applied to energy systems and PMUs, while the subsequent stage examines adversarial attacks targeting AI models. At this stage, evaluations of the Madry attack, basic iterative method (BIM), momentum iterative method (MIM), and projected gradient descend (PGD) are carried out, which are all powerful adversarial techniques that may compromise anomaly detection methods. The final stage addresses mitigation methods for AI-based cyberattacks. All these three stages represent various uses of AI and constitute the dueling AI algorithm convention that is conceptualised and demonstrated in this work. According to the findings of this study, it is essential to investigate the trade-off between the accuracy of AI-based anomaly detection models and their digital immutability against potential cyberphysical attacks in terms of trustworthiness for the critical infrastructure under consideration. Learning sensorimotor trajectories through flexible neural representations is fundamental for robots as it facilitates the building of motor skills as well as equipping them with the ability to represent the world as predictable temporal events. Recent advances in deep learning led to the development of powerful learning from demonstration (LfD) systems such as Conditional Neural Movement Primitives (CNMPs). CNMPs can robustly represent skills as movement distributions and allow them to be 'recalled' by conditioning the movement on a few observation points. In this study, we focus on improving CNMPs to achieve a higher resource economy by adopting a divide-and-conquer approach. We propose a novel neural architecture called Coupled CNMP (C-CNMP), that couples the latent spaces of a pair of CNMPs that splits a given sensorimotor trajectory into segments whose learning is undertaken by smaller sub-networks. Therefore, each sub-network needs to deal with a less complex trajectory making the learning less resource-hungry. With systematic simulations on a controlled trajectory data set, we show that the overhead brought by the coupling introduced in our model is well offset by the resource and performance gain obtained. To be specific, with CNMP model as the baseline, it is shown that the proposed model is able to learn to generate trajectories in the data set with a lower trajectory error measured as the mean absolute difference between the generated trajectory and the ground truth. Importantly, our model can perform well with relatively limited resources, i.e., with less number of neural network parameters compared to the baseline. To show that the findings from the controlled data set well-transfer to robot data, we use robot joint data in an LfD setting and compare the learning performance of the proposed model with the baseline model at equal complexity levels. The simulation experiments show that with also the robot joint data, the proposed model, C-CNMP, learns to generate the joint trajectories with significantly less error than the baseline model. Overall, our study improves the state of the art in sensorimotor trajectory learning and exemplifies how divide-and-conquer approaches can benefit deep learning architectures for resource economy. Purpose: This paper evaluates user performance in telesurgical tasks with the da Vinci Research Kit (dVRK), comparing unilateral teleoperation, bilateral teleoperation with force sensors and sensorless force estimation. Methods: A four-channel teleoperation system with disturbance observers and sensorless force estimation with learning-based dynamic compensation was developed. Palpation experiments were conducted with 12 users who tried to locate tumors hidden in tissue phantoms with their fingers or through handheld or teleoperated laparoscopic instruments with visual, force sensor, or sensorless force estimation feedback. In a peg transfer experiment with 10 users, the contribution of sensorless haptic feedback with/without learning-based dynamic compensation was assessed using NASA TLX surveys, measured free motion speeds and forces, environment interaction forces as well as experiment completion times. Results: The first study showed a 30% increase in accuracy in detecting tumors with sensorless haptic feedback over visual feedback with only a 5–10% drop in accuracy when compared with sensor feedback or direct instrument contact. The second study showed that sensorless feedback can help reduce interaction forces due to incidental contacts by about 3 times compared with unilateral teleoperation. The cost is an increase in free motion forces and physical effort. We show that it is possible to improve this with dynamic compensation. Conclusion: We demonstrate the benefits of sensorless haptic feedback in teleoperated surgery systems, especially with dynamic compensation, and that it can improve surgical performance without hardware modifications. Background: Skin sensation changes are common after rhinoplasty and can be troublesome for patients postoperatively. The closed technique may be considered as causing less sensory loss compared to the open technique due to its conservative approach, minimal dissection and low tissue damage potential. A randomized study was planned to compare the sensory changes in the subunits of the nasal skin caused by the two main methods using objective and subjective parameters. Methods: In the analysis of the patients, the nose was divided into seven subunits: nasion, rhinion, nasal tip, left alar wing, right alar wing, infratip lobule and columella base. Evaluations were done preoperatively and at the first, third, sixth and twelfth months postoperatively. Objective sensory evaluations were done using the Semmes–Weinstein monofilament test. The subjective sensory changes of each nasal unit were subjectively evaluated by the patients on a three-point Likert scale. Results: Both objective and subjective evaluations showed a statistically significant decrease in sensation in the nasal tip and infratip lobule in the open group one month after surgery. In the closed group, no significant differences were observed between the preoperative and postoperative sensory values for nasal subunits across all periods. Conclusion: While a decrease in sensation was observed in the tip and infratip lobule in the open technique by the first month postoperatively, this loss of sensation returned to a normal level by the third month. In the closed technique, however, no significant loss of sensation was detected in the postoperative period. In light of our findings, surgeons can have a better insight into postoperative sensory changes in the subunits of nasal skin which makes them more confident and reassuring when there are concerns regarding altered sensation after rhinoplasty. Wildfires have become a growing global concern due to the environmental and economic damage they cause. Climate change is a primary cause of wildfires as it increases the frequency, extent, and severity of wildfires. In addition to climate change, human activities have become a major cause of wildfires, particularly in the Mediterranean region. Since wildfire is a very complicated environmental problem, effectively responding to and minimising the danger of a wildfire necessitates the integration of all available information into decision-making systems. The complexity of wildfires can have a negative impact on decision-making, particularly when decisions are temporally made under dynamic, uncertain, and contradictory conditions. Since the early 1990s, there has been a rise in the occurrence of "mega-fires" throughout Europe, which are characterised by wildfires that surpass the present firefighting capabilities. Controlling mega-fires exceeds the response capacity of the individual institutions as effective wildfire management requires extensive coordination of the institutions and all available resources at a local, regional, and national level. This cooperation necessitates the integration of advanced technologies with scientific knowledge, as well as the combination of various heterogeneous spatial and non-spatial data. GIS technology provides an efficient, expedited, and economical process of data collection and analysis. In the last decades, GIS-based decision support systems have been used to improve the efficiency of firefighting processes like planning, management, and decision-making. In this study, a conceptual framework of a GIS-based decision support system for wildfire prevention and fighting in Turkey was proposed. Spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2) is a dominantly inherited ataxia primarily characterised by progressive cerebellar syndrome, which is developed due to the expansion of the CAG trinucleotide repeat within the first exon of the ATXN2 gene. We report a rare case of a 41-year-old woman with coexistent genetically verified SCA2 and primary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS). Considering our case and a few others reported in the literature, as well as a possible genetic association between ATXN2 and MS susceptibility, we suggest that the coexistence of SCA and MS may not be coincidental, especially in patients with a progressive MS course. As a strategy to improve the therapeutic success of chimeric antigen receptor T cells (CART) directed against solid tumors, we here test the combinatorial use of CART and IMSA101, a newly developed stimulator of interferon genes (STING) agonist. In two syngeneic tumor models, improved overall survival is observed when mice are treated with intratumorally administered IMSA101 in addition to intravenous CART infusion. Transcriptomic analyses of CART isolated from tumors show elevated T cell activation, as well as upregulated cytokine pathway signatures, in particular IL-18, in the combination treatment group. Also, higher levels of IL-18 in serum and tumor are detected with IMSA101 treatment. Consistent with this, the use of IL-18 receptor negative CART impair anti-tumor responses in mice receiving combination treatment. In summary, we find that IMSA101 enhances CART function which is facilitated through STING agonist-induced IL-18 secretion. It has been previously suggested that STING agonists can improve response to CAR-T therapy. A de-embedding method for determining all scattering (S-) parameters (e.g., characterization) of a sensing area of planar microstrip sensors (two-port network or line) is proposed using measurements of S-parameters with no calibration. The method requires only (partially known) non-reflecting line and reflecting line standards to accomplish such a characterization. It utilizes uncalibrated S-parameter measurements of a reflecting line, direct and reversed configurations of a non-reflecting line, and direct and reversed configurations of the sensing area. As different from previous similar studies, it performs such a characterization without any sign ambiguity. The method is first validated by extracting the S-parameters of a bianisotropic metamaterial slab, as for a two-port network (line), constructed by split-ring-resonators (SRRs) from waveguide measurements. Then, it is applied for determining the S-parameters of a sensing area of a microstrip sensor involving double SRRs next to a microstrip line. The root-mean-square-error (RMSE) analysis was utilized to analyze the accuracy of our method in comparison with other techniques in the literature. It has been observed from such an analysis that our proposed de-embedding technique has the lowest RMSE values for the extracted S-parameters of the sensing area of the designed sensor in comparison with those of the compared other de-embedding techniques in the literature, and have similar RMSE values in reference to those of the thru-reflect-line calibration technique. For example, while RMSE values of real and imaginary parts of the forward reflection S-parameter of this sensing area are, respectively, around 0.0271 and 0.0279 for our de-embedding method, those of one of the compared de-embedding techniques approach as high as 0.0318 and 0.0324. Purpose of Review: The purpose of this review is to discuss a wide variety of novel therapies recently studied or actively undergoing study in patients with glioblastoma. This review also discusses current and future strategies for improving clinical trial design in patients with glioblastoma to maximize efficacy in discovering effective treatments. Recent Findings: Over the years, there has been significant expansion in therapy modalities studied in patients with glioblastoma. These therapies include, but are not limited to, targeted molecular therapies, DNA repair pathway targeted therapies, immunotherapies, vaccine therapies, and surgically targeted radiotherapies. Summary: Glioblastoma is the most common malignant primary brain tumor in adults and unfortunately remains with poor overall survival following the current standard of care. Given the dismal prognosis, significant clinical and research efforts are ongoing with the goal of improving patient outcomes and enhancing quality and quantity of life utilizing a wide variety of novel therapies. The environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) has been analyzed in many studies, but none of them has focused on countries with high energy imports. COP27 reiterated that fossil fuels are the main cause of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and highlighted the importance of net-zero targets for CO2 reduction by 2050. Analyzing the determinants of CO2 emissions in countries that import a lot of fossil energy is an important issue for achieving the net-zero targets within the scope of COP27. The study therefore empirically analyzes the effects of resource rents, energy prices, urbanization, and income on CO2 emissions. To this end, the study uses second-generation panel data analyses for the top 10 energy-importing countries for the period 1990–2020. The results suggest that (i) natural resources rent and urbanization increase CO2 emissions; (ii) an increase in energy prices helps to achieve carbon neutrality goals; (iii) GDP has a U-shaped link with CO2 emissions; and (iv) the EKC hypothesis is not valid for energy import-dependent countries. These findings suggest that energy import-dependent countries should strive for COP27 goals by adopting green urbanization policies, resource rent regulation laws, and energy price adjustments in domestic markets that accompany the transition to clean energy. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multisystemic disease in which airway obstruction, infection, and inflammation play a critical role in the pathogenesis and progression of CF lung disease. The carbohydrate-binding protein Galectin-3 is increased in several inflammatory and fibrotic diseases and has recently been forwarded as a biomarker in these diseases. We aimed to define the role of serum Galectin-3 in children with CF by comparison with healthy subjects. This is a cross-sectional, case–control study. 143 CF and 30 healthy subjects were enrolled in the study. Peripheral blood and sputum concentrations of Galectins-3, interleukin (IL)-17A, IL-8, and neutrophil elastase (NE) were determined with commercial ELISA kits. There was no significant difference between the groups in age and gender (p = 0.592, p = 0.613, respectively). Serum Galectin-3 and NE concentrations were higher in the patient group than in healthy controls (p = 0.002, p < 0.001, respectively). There were no significant differences between groups according to IL-17A and IL-8 concentrations. Serum Galectin-3 was correlated with age (r = 0.289, p < 0.001) and body mass index (BMI) (r = 0.493, p < 0.001) in children with CF. Sputum Galectin-3 levels are negatively correlated with percent predictive forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1) (r = − 0.297, p = 0.029), FEV1 z-score, (r = − 0.316, p = 0.020), percent predictive forced vital capacity (FVC) (r = − 0.347, p = 0.010), and FVC z-score (r = − 0.373, p = 0.006). Conclusion: The study shows that serum Galectin-3 levels increased in clinically stable CF patients, and serum Galectin-3 response may depend on age, gender, and BMI. The sputum Galectin-3 was found to be negatively correlated with patients' lung functions. A simple and inexpensive microwave measurement setup based on measurements of magnitudes of transmission properties ( | S 21 | dB ) is proposed for industrial-based microwave aquametry (moisture or water content) applications. An easy-to-apply calibration procedure based on normalization is implemented to eliminate systematic errors in the measurement system. As a case study, we applied this setup for the quantification of water-adulteration in flower honey. After validating this system by distilled water and pure flower honey measurements, | S 21 | dB measurements of the pure flower honey with various adulteration percentages (δ ) up to 9% are conducted to examine the performance of the measurement setup for quantification of water adulteration. A multi-dimensional fitting procedure is implemented to predict δ using the proposed inexpensive microwave measurement setup. It is shown that it is possible to quantify an adulteration level with an accuracy better than ∓ 1 % by the proposed measurement setup and the applied multi-dimensional fitting procedure. Defects at the top and bottom interfaces of three-dimensional (3D) perovskite photoabsorbers diminish the performance and operational stability of perovskite solar cells owing to charge recombination, ion migration and electric-field inhomogeneities1–5. Here we demonstrate that long alkyl amine ligands can generate near-phase-pure 2D perovskites at the top and bottom 3D perovskite interfaces and effectively resolve these issues. At the rear-contact side, we find that the alkyl amine ligand strengthens the interactions with the substrate through acid–base reactions with the phosphonic acid group from the organic hole-transporting self-assembled monolayer molecule, thus regulating the 2D perovskite formation. With this, inverted perovskite solar cells with double-side 2D/3D heterojunctions achieved a power conversion efficiency of 25.6% (certified 25.0%), retaining 95% of their initial power conversion efficiency after 1,000 h of 1-sun illumination at 85 °C in air.A study presents a technique to sandwich 3D perovskite with 2D perovskites at the top and bottom, improving the performance and stability of perovskite solar cells. Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is an endocrinological disease that affects systemic inflammation. This study is aimed to investigate the preoperative and postoperative effect of PHPT on systemic inflammation. A total of 203 patients who were successfully operated for PHPT and 98 healthy controls were included in the study. The blood tests of the patients in the last month preoperatively and in the postoperative 6th month were compared. In addition, preoperative and postoperative tests were compared with the healthy control group. When the preoperative neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), and systemic inflammation index (SII) values of the patients who were operated for parathyroid adenoma were compared with the control group (p values were < 0.05, 0.01, 0.19, < 0.05), the NLR, PLR, and SII values were significantly lower in the patient group with parathyroid adenoma than in the control group. When the preoperative and postoperative 6th month NLR, PLR, LMR, and SII values of the patients were compared (p values: 0.026, 0.56, 0.023, 0.016, respectively), there was a significant increase in NLR and SII values after excision, while a significant decrease was observed in the LMR value. When the postoperative 6th month NLR, PLR, LMR, SII values were compared with the healthy control group (p values: 0.22, 0.29, 0.19, 0.29, respectively), no significant difference was observed between all values. Purpose of Review: This review aims to discuss recent research regarding the biomolecules explored in liquid biopsies and their potential clinical uses for adult-type diffuse gliomas. Recent Findings: Evaluation of tumor biomolecules via cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is an emerging technology in neuro-oncology. Studies to date have already identified various circulating tumor DNA, extracellular vesicle, micro-messenger RNA and protein biomarkers of interest. These biomarkers show potential to assist in multiple avenues of central nervous system (CNS) tumor evaluation, including tumor differentiation and diagnosis, treatment selection, response assessment, detection of tumor progression, and prognosis. In addition, CSF liquid biopsies have the potential to better characterize tumor heterogeneity compared to conventional tissue collection and CNS imaging. Summary: Current imaging modalities are not sufficient to establish a definitive glioma diagnosis and repeated tissue sampling via conventional biopsy is risky, therefore, there is a great need to improve non-invasive and minimally invasive sampling methods. CSF liquid biopsies represent a promising, minimally invasive adjunct to current approaches which can provide diagnostic and prognostic information as well as aid in response assessment. The Public Safety Network (PSN) is important for providing communication after a possible disaster. It provides a communication opportunity between the victims under the wreckage and the rescue team in the case of base stations do not function. Device-to-device (D2D) discovery and communication provides communication services in such difficult situations without the requirement of network infrastructure and by reducing call traffic in cellular communication networks. Therefore, device discovery according to different parameter values in the simulator environment for 3GPP and PSN provides great convenience to users in the application phase. In this study, we presented a device-to-device (D2D) discovery simulator based on the Matlab Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the students and researchers related to the wireless communication area. In this simulator, there are different pathloss models for D2D communication along with the parameters suggested by 3GPP and PSN for educational and research purposes. D2D discovery results are given in visual graphics with the parameter settings in the simulator's interface. Thanks to the D2D discovery simulator, the students and researchers can easily understand how the user mobile devices discover each other which is necessary for D2D communication in the disaster area. They can also compare device discovery algorithms with different parameters and models. Six different scenario examples and an evaluation questionnaire about the D2D discovery simulator were proposed to students and researchers at a University in Turkey. The users (students and researchers) can easily test D2D discovery algorithms with different simulation parameters with a user-friendly interface thanks to the developed simulator. The death toll and monetary damages from landslides continue to rise despite advancements in predictive modeling. These models' performances are limited as landslide databases used in developing them often miss crucial information, e.g., underlying movement types. This study introduces a method of discerning landslide movements, such as slides, flows, and falls, by analyzing landslides' 3D shapes. By examining landslide topological properties, we discover distinct patterns in their morphology, indicating different movements including complex ones with multiple coupled movements. We achieve 80-94% accuracy by applying topological properties in identifying landslide movements across diverse geographical and climatic regions, including Italy, the US Pacific Northwest, Denmark, Turkey, and Wenchuan in China. Furthermore, we demonstrate a real-world application on undocumented datasets from Wenchuan. Our work introduces a paradigm for studying landslide shapes to understand their underlying movements through the lens of landslide topology, which could aid landslide predictive models and risk evaluations. Electrical stimulation is a fundamental tool in studying neural circuits, treating neurological diseases, and advancing regenerative medicine. Injectable, free-standing piezoelectric particle systems have emerged as non-genetic and wireless alternatives for electrode-based tethered stimulation systems. However, achieving cell-specific and high-frequency piezoelectric neural stimulation remains challenging due to high-intensity thresholds, non-specific diffusion, and internalization of particles. Here, we develop cell-sized 20 μm-diameter silica-based piezoelectric magnetic Janus microparticles (PEMPs), enabling clinically-relevant high-frequency neural stimulation of primary neurons under low-intensity focused ultrasound. Owing to its functionally anisotropic design, half of the PEMP acts as a piezoelectric electrode via conjugated barium titanate nanoparticles to induce electrical stimulation, while the nickel-gold nanofilm-coated magnetic half provides spatial and orientational control on neural stimulation via external uniform rotating magnetic fields. Furthermore, surface functionalization with targeting antibodies enables cell-specific binding/targeting and stimulation of dopaminergic neurons. Taking advantage of such functionalities, the PEMP design offers unique features towards wireless neural stimulation for minimally invasive treatment of neurological diseases. Wireless and localized stimulation of neural cells remains challenging. Halal certified cosmetic products are increasingly finding an important market in the market and are preferred by consumers. Heavy metals, which can be seen as the biggest pollutants of recent times, are also mentioned in the cosmetics world. Studies on the levels of heavy metal pollution in the cosmetics industry have not yet reached a sufficient number in the literature. In the present study, nine halal certified cosmetic products (lipstick, eye shadow, face powder) were digested with hydrogen peroxide and nitric acid by microwave acid digestion method. The toxic element (Cr, Hg, Mn, Ni, Co, Cu, Se, As, Fe, Zn, Cd, Al, Pb) contents of purchased halal certified cosmetic products (lipstick, eye shadow, face powder) were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The results provide interesting data on heavy metal levels in the cosmetics industry. The presence of Ni and Cu in brand 1 powder, Hg, Ni, Cu and Zn in brand 2 powder, Hg, Ni and Cu in brand 3 powder were not found. The increase in heavy metal concentrations in the air, especially after the Industrial Revolution, is notable for the scientific world because of the adverse effects that threaten environmental and human health. Among the trace elements, nickel (Ni) is carcinogenic, and all barium (Ba) compounds are toxic. Trace elements are critical for human and environmental health. Their threat further increases, especially in the urban areas and surroundings with a high population. In urban areas, the trace element contamination in the airborne can be reduced using plants. However, which plant and plant organs absorb trace elements could not be determined. In the present study, Ni and Ba concentrations in the branch, wood, and leaf samples of 14 species collected from the city center of Mersin province were determined. As a result, broad-leaved species' Ni and Ba concentrations in their leaf sample were generally higher than other species. Almost all species had the lowest Ni and Ba concentrations in their wood samples. Among these 14 species, it was found that Ni concentration was very high, especially in non-washed leaves of Platanus orientalis, Photinia serrulata, and Citrus reticulate, and Ba concentration was very high in Citrus reticulata, Chamaecyparis lawsoniana, Laurus nobilis, and Acer hyrcanum. Using broad-leaved species in urban areas where pollution is at high levels will significantly contribute to reducing Ni and Ba pollution. This paper proposes an index-based simultaneous permutation-diffusion image encryption algorithm (ISPD-IEA) based on chaos theory and a permutation-diffusion coupled encryption mechanism. The proposed method introduces a novel two-dimensional (2D) Price map derived from the Price function and classical maps, exhibiting superior chaotic dynamical properties compared to existing alternatives. By integrating the permutation-diffusion process, ISPD-IEA effectively diffuses minor changes in pixel values while altering their positions, enhancing both encryption efficiency and resistance against differential analysis attacks. Experimental results and thorough security analysis confirm the outstanding security and high encryption efficiency of ISPD-IEA. The algorithm not only achieves excellent encryption performance but also demonstrates its ability to resist various attacks commonly encountered in image encryption scenarios. Objectives: Despite the presumed overdiagnosis of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) which has resulted in a new trend toward less-extensive surgery and a preference for active surveillance, the impact of microscopic extrathyroidal extension (mETE) on the clinical outcomes of PTMC is still controversial. This study assessed the impact of mETE on the clinical outcomes of patients with classic subtype PTMC. Methods: The data of consecutive patients who underwent thyroidectomy and were histopathologically diagnosed as classic subtype PTMC were analyzed. Cox's proportional hazards model was used to assess the impact of contributing variables on persistent/recurrent disease. Disease-free survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. Results: This study included 1013 patients (84% females), with a mean follow-up period of 62.5 ± 35.3 months. Patients with mETE had a significantly higher rate of locoregional persistent/recurrent disease than patients without mETE (9.8% vs 2.1%, p < 0.001). The disease-free survival rate was significantly lower in patients with mETE than in those without (90.2% vs 97%, Log-Rank p < 0.001). Furthermore, mETE and neck lymph node involvement were independent predictors of persistent/recurrent disease in multivariate analysis (HR: 2.43, 95% CI:1.02–5.81, p = 0.043; HR: 4.38, 95% CI: 1.7–11.2, p = 0.002, respectively). Conclusions: In patients with the classic subtype of PTMC, mETE is an independent predictor of persistent/recurrent disease and is associated with a lower DFS rate. However, neck lymph node involvement is the strongest predictor of persistent/recurrent disease. Therefore, PTMCs with mETE and neck lymph node involvement are at a higher risk of persistent/recurrent disease than individuals lacking both characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study constructs a proposed model to investigate the link between environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosures and ESG scores for publicly traded companies in the Borsa Istanbul Sustainability (XUSRD) index. In this context, this study considers 66 companies, examining recently structured ESG disclosures for 2022 that were published for the first time as novel data and applying a multilayer perceptron (MLP) artificial neural network algorithm. The relevant results are fourfold. (1) The MLP algorithm has explanatory power (i.e., R2) of 79% in estimating companies' ESG scores. (2) Common, environment, social, and governance pillars have respective weights of 21.04%, 44.87%, 30.34%, and 3.74% in total ESG scores. (3) The absolute and relative significance of each ESG reporting principle for companies' ESG scores varies. (4) According to absolute and relative significance, the most effective ESG principle is the common principle, followed by social and environmental principles, whereas governance principles have less significance. Overall, the results demonstrate that applying a linear approach to complete deficient ESG disclosures is inefficient for increasing companies' ESG scores; instead, companies should focus on the ESG principles that have the highest relative significance. The studies have focused on changes in CO2 emissions over different periods, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Even if CO2 emissions are temporarily reduced during the pandemic according to annual figures, this may be misleading. Considering annual figures is important to understand the overall trend, but using data with much higher frequency (e.g., daily) is much better suited to investigate dynamic relationships and external effects. Therefore, this study comprehensively analyzes the association between CO2 emissions and disaggregated electricity generation (EG) sources across the globe by employing the novel wavelet local multiple correlation (WLMC) approach on daily data from 1st January 2020 to 31st March 2023. The results demonstrate that (1) based on the main statistics, daily CO2 emissions range between 69 MtCO2 and 116 MtCO2, indicating that there is an oscillation, but no sharp changes over the analyzed period. (2) based on the baseline regression using the dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS) approach, the constructed estimation models have a high predictive ability of CO2 emissions, reaching ~ 94%; (3) in the further analysis employing the WLMC approach, there are significant externalities between EG resources, which affect CO2 emissions. The results present novel insights about time- and frequency-varying effects as well as a disaggregated analysis of the effect of EG on CO2 emissions, demonstrating the significance of the energy transition towards clean sources around the world. Context: In this study, the molecular structure of the mexiletine molecule was investigated. Since the Mexiletine molecule is a drug active ingredient, its molecular structure and spectroscopic properties are important. The effects of intramolecular hydrogen bonding on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Parameters (NMR), Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) parameters and molecular docking studies were examined in the mexiletine molecule. The effects of intramolecular hydrogen bonding on EPR parameters and molecular docking studies are the most important steps for this study. Method: Conformational space scanning required for molecular structure calculations was carried out with the Molecular Mechanic Force Field method. DFT method with 6–311 + + G(d,p) basis set level was used to obtain the most stable structure among the conformations. NMR parameters (1H and 13C chemical shift values) were also performed using the same basis set as the DFT method. The radicals created to calculate the Electron Paramagnetic Resonance parameters were modeled using the DFT/B3LYP/6–311 + + G(d,p) method basis set level. There are only 10 validly characterized species in the genus Sinomonas, all of which are isolated from various soil types in Asia and have been reported as a result of useful biotechnological applications. Here we described the first report of the species Sinomonas halotolerans isolated from rhizospheric soil samples of Parkinsonia aculeata based on materials collected from the Sonoran Desert, Mexico. Parkinsonia aculeata is an indigenous species that has weathered salinity, drought, and extremely high temperatures in the semiarid parts of Mexico and contributes significantly to the functionality of these ecosystems through considerable rates of vegetation. Materials were collected three times, in February, March, and August 2022 in 2 locations: Bahia de Lobos and Tesopaco, affected by two abiotic stress conditions: salinity and drought respectively. During the investigation, the strains BA8A, BA10B, and TA1 were isolated from both locations, they were identified using microbiological and molecular techniques. Based on the 16S rRNA gene sequences, the three strains were identified as Sinomonas halotolerans (99.9% sequence similarity). As the genus Sinomonas is still poorly known in America, our study may help to improve this situation and S. halotolerans might be considered a potential species to develop novel biotechnological applications with the aim to cope with the adverse effects of salinity and drought in soil. Particle dampers (PD), a passive damping technology, absorb energy from particle-particle and particle-cell wall interactions originating from friction and collision. PDs offer advantages such as design simplicity, low cost, applicability in harsh conditions, and flexibility to be used in a wide frequency band range. Additive manufacturing, specifically the powder bed fusion process, can fabricate structures with integrated PDs in a single printing process, eliminating the need to implement external dampers. However, the dynamic behavior of PDs must be determined to utilize their full potential. In this study, we examined 16 cases of integrated PDs by varying specific parameters including size, number, and locations on the structure to understand the effects of these parameters on the dynamic behavior of the first and second modes of the structure. Modal tests were conducted on additively manufactured samples to extract frequency response functions and calculate modal parameters (natural frequency and damping ratio) using the rational fraction polynomial method, studying the effects of PDs. The results showed that the damping performance of the parts was increased by a factor of up to 10 using body-integrated PDs compared with the fully fused specimen. The effectiveness of body-integrated PDs was shown to be strongly dependent on their volume and location. For instance, the damping generally increased as the volume fraction increased, which also reduced the total weight of the specimens by up to 60 g. Thermally evaporated C60 is a near-ubiquitous electron transport layer in state-of-the-art p–i–n perovskite-based solar cells. As perovskite photovoltaic technologies are moving toward industrialization, batch-to-batch reproducibility of device performances becomes crucial. Here, we show that commercial as-received (99.75% pure) C60 source materials may coalesce during repeated thermal evaporation processes, jeopardizing such reproducibility. We find that the coalescence is due to oxygen present in the initial source powder and leads to the formation of deep states within the perovskite bandgap, resulting in a systematic decrease in solar cell performance. However, further purification (through sublimation) of the C60 to 99.95% before evaporation is found to hinder coalescence, with the associated solar cell performances being fully reproducible after repeated processing. We verify the universality of this behavior on perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells by demonstrating their open-circuit voltages and fill factors to remain at 1950 mV and 81% respectively, over eight repeated processes using the same sublimed C60 source material. Notably, one of these cells achieved a certified power conversion efficiency of 30.9%. These findings provide insights crucial for the advancement of perovskite photovoltaic technologies towards scaled production with high process yield. Recently, the need for thermal management of lithium-ion batteries in electrical transportation engineering has received increased attention. To get maximum performance from lithium-ion batteries, battery thermal management systems are required. This paper quantitatively presents the effects of several factors on both maximum battery temperature and temperature gradient. These factors include ambient temperature (288 K, 293 K, 298 K, 303 K, 308 K), C-rate (1C, 2C, 3C, 4C, 5C), mixing ratio (1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%), and inlet velocity (0.01 m s−1, 0.02 m s−1, 0.03 m s−1, 0.04 m s−1, 0.05 m s−1). Five levels for each parameter were considered to develop the orthogonal array. The significance of the variables was orderly shown through the L25 experiment. Results indicated that for maximal battery temperature, C-rate and ambient temperature are the most significant factors while for temperature gradient, C-rate and inlet velocity play an important role. For maximum battery temperature ambient temperature, C-rate, mixing ratio, and inlet velocity of 288 K, 1C, 4%, and 0.05 m s−1, respectively, were obtained at the optimal setting. An ambient temperature of 308 K, a C-rate of 1, a mixing ratio of 5%, and an inlet velocity of 0.05 m s−1 was the optimal setting for the temperature gradient. The results showed that the confirmatory test validates the optimization process for maximum battery temperature and temperature gradient. This study may provide a pathway for manufacturers and researchers interested in minimizing battery temperature and improving temperature gradient in electric vehicle applications.
