Objective: Direct magnetic resonance arthrography (dMRA) is often considered the most accurate imaging modality for the evaluation of intra-articular structures, but utilization and performance vary widely without consensus. The purpose of this white paper is to develop consensus recommendations on behalf of the Society of Skeletal Radiology (SSR) based on published literature and expert opinion. Materials and methods: The Standards and Guidelines Committee of the SSR identified guidelines for utilization and performance of dMRA as an important topic for study and invited all SSR members with expertise and interest to volunteer for the white paper panel. This panel was tasked with determining an outline, reviewing the relevant literature, preparing a written document summarizing the issues and controversies, and providing recommendations. Results: Twelve SSR members with expertise in dMRA formed the ad hoc white paper authorship committee. The published literature on dMRA was reviewed and summarized, focusing on clinical indications, technical considerations, safety, imaging protocols, complications, controversies, and gaps in knowledge. Recommendations for the utilization and performance of dMRA in the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle/foot regions were developed in group consensus. Conclusion: Although direct MR arthrography has been previously used for a wide variety of clinical indications, the authorship panel recommends more selective application of this minimally invasive procedure. At present, direct MR arthrography remains an important procedure in the armamentarium of the musculoskeletal radiologist and is especially valuable when conventional MRI is indeterminant or results are discrepant with clinical evaluation. Energy storage devices (ESD) which are intended to power electronic devices, used in close contact of human skin, are desirable to be safe and non-toxic. In light of this requirement, Zn based energy storage devices seem to provide a viable pathway as they mostly employ aqueous based electrolytes which are safe and non-toxic in their functioning. Additionally, having a flexible ESD will play a crucial role as it will enable the ESD to conform to the varying shapes and sizes of wearable electronics which they energize. In this work, we have developed an inkjet-printed Zinc ion battery (IPZIB) with planar electrode configuration over bond paper substrate. Zn has been used as the negative electrode, MnO2 is used as the positive electrode with Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) as the active binder. Conducting tracks of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) are used to construct the current collector on the paper substrate. The fabricated IPZIB delivered a high discharge capacity of 300.14 mAh g−1 at a current density of 200 mA g−1. The energy density of the IPZIB is observed as 330.15 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 220 W kg−1 and retains an energy density of 94.36 Wh kg−1 at a high power density of 1650 W kg−1. Finally, we have demonstrated the capability of the IPZIB to power a LED at various bending and folding conditions which indicates its potential to be used in the next generation flexible and wearable electronic devices. The flame spread behavior over a filter paper in opposed flow was investigated on the ISS/Kibo, and the results were compared with the flammability map predicted in advance by scale analysis for a two-dimensional flame. The on-orbit experiments were conducted in the solid combustion experimental module (SCEM) as the first combustion test of the FLARE project by JAXA. A filter paper with a length of 130 mm, a width of 40 mm or 20 mm, and a thickness of 0.12 mm was used as the specimen. The opposed flow velocity and the oxygen concentration were varied from 0 cm/s to 25 cm/s, and from 13.5% to 34%, respectively. The ambient pressure is 101.3 kPa. The predicted limiting curve reasonably agreed with the minimum limiting oxygen concentration observed. On the other hand, in extremely slow flows, very robust flames were observed beyond the limiting curve. When the condition reached the limit of two-dimensional flame, the flame front changed from a linear shape to a spherical shape (flamelet) to shorten the preheat zone length, reducing the radiative heat loss to survive. In these cases, the flamelet was sustained for a long time (> 100 s), and a large amount of decomposed gas was released at the periphery of the pyrolysis zone generating a combustible vapor cloud around the spherical flame font. The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Konrad Lorenz, Niko Tinbergen and Karl von Frisch in 1973 for their pioneering work during the 1930s and 1940s, in the study of animal behaviour. Lorenz established the foundations of ethology in 1935 in what has become known as his "Kumpan paper". The paper focussed on the social relationships between conspecifics (i.e. 'kumpans', companions) and provided a much-needed conceptual framework for the study of animal behaviour. We describe the origins and immediate reception of Lorenz's paper using his correspondence with colleagues, mainly Erwin Stresemann who was then the influential editor of Journal für Ornithologie. The Kumpan paper was notable for its extraordinary originality, but also for its length and—in parts—its incomprehensible language. Most of Lorenz's concepts were rapidly superseded as the field of Ethology/Animal Behaviour developed over the following decades. The paper (translated in full into English only in 1970) is rarely read today, but as we show, many of Lorenz's observations of birds are both timeless and highly original and have the potential to inspire further research today. A method for recording the spatial distribution of radiation scattered from laser plasma in a wide angular range, up to 4π, using preexposed and developed photographic paper is proposed. This method makes it possible to obtain a radiation pattern of scattered radiation with a sufficiently high spatial and angular resolution. By calibrating the sensitivity of photographic paper, one can quantify the energy of scattered radiation in various directions and determine the integral value of the energy loss due to scattering in a wide spectral range from UV to IR. The European Journal of Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging has published a position paper on the use of theranostics in brain tumors. Theranostics, which involves using diagnostic imaging to identify specific molecular targets and then delivering targeted therapy, has shown promise in thyroid diseases, neuroendocrine tumors, and prostate cancer. The paper discusses the potential of theranostics in treating brain tumors, including meningiomas, gliomas, brain metastases, and pediatric brain tumors. It highlights the challenges in delivering therapeutics to the brain due to the blood-brain barrier and calls for further research and clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of theranostic approaches in neuro-oncology. A wide variety of biomass is available all around the world. Most of the biomass exists as a by-product from manufacturing industries. Pulp and paper mills contribute to a higher amount of these biomasses mostly discarded in the landfills creating an environmental burden. Biomasses from other sources have been used to produce different kinds and grades of biomaterials such as those used in industrial and medical applications. The present review aims to investigate the availability of biomass from pulp and paper mills and show sustainable routes for the production of high value-added biomaterials. The study reveals that using conventional and integrated biorefinery technology the ample variety and quantity of waste generated from pulp and paper mills can be converted into wealth. As per the findings of the current review, it is shown that high-performance carbon fiber and bioplastic can be manufactured from black liquor of pulping waste; the cellulosic waste from sawdust and sludge can be utilized for the synthesis of CNC and regenerated fibers such as viscose rayon and acetate; the mineral-based pulping wastes and fly ash can be used for manufacturing of different kinds of biocomposites. The different biomaterials obtained from the pulp and paper mill biomass can be used for versatile applications including conventional, high performance, and smart materials. Through customization and optimization of the conversion techniques and product manufacturing schemes, a variety of engineering materials can be obtained from pulp and paper mill wastes realizing the current global waste to wealth developmental approach. Paper, as a foldable, pollution-free, and low-cost material, has become a suitable support substrate for producing flexible thermoelectric (TE) generators to realize waste heat recycling and the application of human-powered electronic devices. We propose a facile fabrication method to modify cellulose paper with inorganic TE powders via vacuum filtration, making a modified paper that possesses good thermoelectric properties. By connecting the modified paper to copper foils, flexible paper-based TE generators (PTGs) are fabricated. The obtained PTG with three units of P–N modules can generate an output voltage of ∼41.2 mV at a temperature difference of 50 K. Based on this modified paper, a thermal sensor that responds to heat sources, such as fingers, is proposed with a rapid response time of 0.25 s. In offset printing process, poor mechanical properties and printability of paper substrate usually result in printing problems, low quality of print and waste of paper materials. Therefore, many researches focus on the quality improvement of paper substrates using suitable additives. In this work, N-methylated chitosan, including N, N-dimethyl chitosan (DMC) and N, N, N-trimethyl chitosan (TMC), were prepared and employed as coating agents to ameliorate the mechanical properties and printability of paper sheets. Analysis results showed that the mechanical strength of coated papers with DMC and TMC were largely improved, because the fibers with negative charges were prone to form electrostatic bonding with the positively charged N-methylated chitosan, thus enhancing paper strength. Particularly, compared with chitosan and DMC, the TMC-coated paper exhibited better mechanical properties, printability and surface properties due to the high cationic charge density of TMC. Therefore, surface coating with TMC is of great benefit to decrease the printing problem of paper sheets and enhance the operation speed in offset printing. Autistic individuals often experience a wide range of barriers and challenges with employment across their lifetime. Despite their strengths and abilities to contribute to the workforce, many individuals experience unemployment, underemployment and malemployment. However, current supports and services are often inadequate to meet their needs. To allow autistic people to achieve vocational success, we explore four contributors to employment and expand upon the issues and potential solutions to each. These positions include the importance of family support and its consideration in the application of vocational support interventions, addressing transitional needs for autistic youth, building employer capacity, and conducting research that advises the development of meaningful programs and policies. The possibility of analyzing the general and functional diversity of the ecosystem is considered, as is unambiguous interpretation of the results obtained based on our work experience and previously obtained data. The prospects for studying small mammals without removal from the wild are discussed. We discuss distinguishing in a sample the resident component, which makes it possible to characterize local resource flows, and the nonresident component, dependent on the state of the territory as a whole. A description of the capture–mark–recapture protocol, methods for assessing spatial activity, calculating the density of the resident population per unit area, and the completeness of species richness estimate is provided. The estimates of animal numbers per unit of trapping effort in pooled sample, the population density of residents, and the index of the nonresident flow are compared. The possibility of analyzing the resource flows in "historical," "novel," and "hybrid" ecosystems, as well as using data to analyze the resilience of the ecosystem and detect the threshold point, is considered. Given the key roles of the cerebellum in motor, cognitive, and affective operations and given the decline of brain functions with aging, cerebellar circuitry is attracting the attention of the scientific community. The cerebellum plays a key role in timing aspects of both motor and cognitive operations, including for complex tasks such as spatial navigation. Anatomically, the cerebellum is connected with the basal ganglia via disynaptic loops, and it receives inputs from nearly every region in the cerebral cortex. The current leading hypothesis is that the cerebellum builds internal models and facilitates automatic behaviors through multiple interactions with the cerebral cortex, basal ganglia and spinal cord. The cerebellum undergoes structural and functional changes with aging, being involved in mobility frailty and related cognitive impairment as observed in the physio-cognitive decline syndrome (PCDS) affecting older, functionally-preserved adults who show slowness and/or weakness. Reductions in cerebellar volume accompany aging and are at least correlated with cognitive decline. There is a strongly negative correlation between cerebellar volume and age in cross-sectional studies, often mirrored by a reduced performance in motor tasks. Still, predictive motor timing scores remain stable over various age groups despite marked cerebellar atrophy. The cerebello-frontal network could play a significant role in processing speed and impaired cerebellar function due to aging might be compensated by increasing frontal activity to optimize processing speed in the elderly. For cognitive operations, decreased functional connectivity of the default mode network (DMN) is correlated with lower performances. Neuroimaging studies highlight that the cerebellum might be involved in the cognitive decline occurring in Alzheimer's disease (AD), independently of contributions of the cerebral cortex. Grey matter volume loss in AD is distinct from that seen in normal aging, occurring initially in cerebellar posterior lobe regions, and is associated with neuronal, synaptic and beta-amyloid neuropathology. Regarding depression, structural imaging studies have identified a relationship between depressive symptoms and cerebellar gray matter volume. In particular, major depressive disorder (MDD) and higher depressive symptom burden are associated with smaller gray matter volumes in the total cerebellum as well as the posterior cerebellum, vermis, and posterior Crus I. From the genetic/epigenetic standpoint, prominent DNA methylation changes in the cerebellum with aging are both in the form of hypo- and hyper-methylation, and the presumably increased/decreased expression of certain genes might impact on motor coordination. Training influences motor skills and lifelong practice might contribute to structural maintenance of the cerebellum in old age, reducing loss of grey matter volume and therefore contributing to the maintenance of cerebellar reserve. Non-invasive cerebellar stimulation techniques are increasingly being applied to enhance cerebellar functions related to motor, cognitive, and affective operations. They might enhance cerebellar reserve in the elderly. In conclusion, macroscopic and microscopic changes occur in the cerebellum during the lifespan, with changes in structural and functional connectivity with both the cerebral cortex and basal ganglia. With the aging of the population and the impact of aging on quality of life, the panel of experts considers that there is a huge need to clarify how the effects of aging on the cerebellar circuitry modify specific motor, cognitive, and affective operations both in normal subjects and in brain disorders such as AD or MDD, with the goal of preventing symptoms or improving the motor, cognitive, and affective symptoms. Immune-mediated cerebellar ataxias (IMCAs) have diverse etiologies. Patients with IMCAs develop cerebellar symptoms, characterized mainly by gait ataxia, showing an acute or subacute clinical course. We present a novel concept of latent autoimmune cerebellar ataxia (LACA), analogous to latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA). LADA is a slowly progressive form of autoimmune diabetes where patients are often initially diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The sole biomarker (serum anti-GAD antibody) is not always present or can fluctuate. However, the disease progresses to pancreatic beta-cell failure and insulin dependency within about 5 years. Due to the unclear autoimmune profile, clinicians often struggle to reach an early diagnosis during the period when insulin production is not severely compromised. LACA is also characterized by a slowly progressive course, lack of obvious autoimmune background, and difficulties in reaching a diagnosis in the absence of clear markers for IMCAs. The authors discuss two aspects of LACA: (1) the not manifestly evident autoimmunity and (2) the prodromal stage of IMCA's characterized by a period of partial neuronal dysfunction where non-specific symptoms may occur. In order to achieve an early intervention and prevent cell death in the cerebellum, identification of the time-window before irreversible neuronal loss is critical. LACA occurs during this time-window when possible preservation of neural plasticity exists. Efforts should be devoted to the early identification of biological, neurophysiological, neuropsychological, morphological (brain morphometry), and multimodal biomarkers allowing early diagnosis and therapeutic intervention and to avoid irreversible neuronal loss. Every year, thousands of papers are published in journals and conferences by researchers in many different fields. These papers are an important guide for other researchers. However, the increasing amount of digital data with the development of information technologies makes it difficult to reach the desired information. Recommendation systems play an important role in facilitating researchers' access to studies on their subjects. It provides faster and easier access to papers on the desired subject. Recommendation systems are developed according to the user profile or subject. In this paper, a novel hybrid paper recommendation system based on deep learning is proposed. The method uses a combination of document similarity, hierarchical clustering, and keyword extraction. Our aim is to group papers in different fields such as computer science, economics, medicine, or in a specific field, according to their subjects, and to present papers with high semantic similarity to the user according to the query entered. The study has been applied on real dataset containing papers from different categories such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, human–computer interaction in computer science. The success of each stage of the study has been evaluated separately. However, looking at the system as a whole, the overall performance of the proposed approach is 80%. Papers having high similarity with their queries have been recommended to users. Thus, access to the studies on the desired subject in the huge amount of papers has been made faster and easier. Higher tensile and bursting strength are paramount concerns in paper-based packaging materials. Herein, the aminated cellulose nanocrystal (A-CNC) was synthesized by the amination reactions firstly, and the base paper was reinforced via coating hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) and A-CNC. The surface morphology and tensile strength of the coated composite paper were characterized and the rheological performance of A-CNC was also investigated. The results clearly demonstrated that coating of HPMC/A-CNC significantly increased the dry tensile strength of composite paper by 1.035 times (32.88 MPa) as compared with base paper (16.16 MPa). In addition, the paper strength as coated with A-CNC was also higher than that of unmodified CNC, which was attributed to the improvement of viscosity of A-CNC. This research uses WP to investigate the effect of two types of Shredded Waste Paper (SWP) comprising Shredded Copier Waste Paper (SCPWP) and Shredded Cardboard Waste Paper (SCBWP) as additives on the properties of concrete and the structural behaviour of Reinforced Concrete Beam (RCB). The slump, compressive, flexural, and splitting tensile strengths increase by 4–13% for 5–10% addition of SCPWP and decrease by 16–23% for 15% addition of SCPWP compared to 0% addition. For SCBWP, the slump, compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strengths increase by 10–23% for 5–10% addition and decrease by 15–21% for 15% addition compared to 0% addition. 15% of SCPWP and SCBWP addition records the highest effect in water absorption and efflorescence, showing 11% and 10.28% increases with 15% addition of SCBWP and SCPWP. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis reveals that the crack is repaired, and the presence of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) and calcium–silicate–hydrate (C–S–H) links enhances the concrete strength. The addition of 10% SCPWP and 10% SCBWP in the concrete mixtures improves the structural behaviour of RCB with stirrup spacing (SS) = 100 mm (full), 150 mm and 200 mm (reduced) by increasing the load and reducing the deflection. Apart from that, the concrete bending and shear strains also increase by 44.17% and 34.9%. The failure mode of the RCB changes from shear to bending. This study indicates that SCPWP and SCBWP can be used as additives in concrete at 5% and 10%, and 10% for RCB with significant strength and structural improvement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With oil pollution in water posing a serious threat to the ecosystem, it's of great importance to explore superhydrophobic materials that are environment-friendly and easy to obtain for oil–water separation. Herein, we report a novel one-step silanization strategy to fabricate superhydrophobic cellulose paper based on the air-induced vertical polymerization of a long-chain alkyltrichlorosilane. The as-prepared paper exhibited remarkable superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle of ~ 165° and a water sliding angle of ~ 1.9° owing to the formation of micro/nanostructured, honeycomb-like polyorganosiloxane agglomerates anchored on the surface. Moreover, when subjected to strong acid/alkali solutions and mechanical forces (sonication and sandpaper abrasion), the superhydrophobic paper showed excellent durability. Due to the extreme wetting properties, namely superhydrophobicity and superoleophilicity, such paper could be used for selectively separating oil from various oil/water mixtures. The proposed method for fabricating superhydrophobic paper has many advantages in terms of cost, simplicity and scalability, making it very promising for real-world application. The development of paper-based flexible electronic devices can reduce the use of traditional petroleum-based polymer substrates, thereby reducing environmental pollution. However, paper substrates tend to absorb moisture, which would degrade the performance of electronic devices. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) films were proposed as coatings for the paper substrate to improve the hydrophobic performance of the paper, thereby enhancing the stability of paper-based device. Hydrophobic PTFE films were deposited on both sides of the paper substrate using electron beam evaporation, which block the paper substrate from absorbing moisture. The zinc oxide (ZnO) film was sputtered onto the paper substrate and fabricated into ultraviolet photodetectors (UVPD). Numerical simulations show that the introduction of PTFE films can greatly reduce the stress from 3.21 × 109 N m−2 to 3.50 × 107 N m−2 in the ZnO epitaxial layer on the paper substrate. The stability and detectivity of the UVPD with PTFE coatings are greatly improved compared to that without PTFE coatings, providing a promising avenue for fabricating stable, superior, and sustainable paper-based electronic devices. In this work, we demonstrate an effective anion capturing in an aqueous medium using a highly porous carbon paper decorated with ZnO nanorods. A sol–gel technique was first employed to form a thin and compact seed layer of ZnO nanoparticles on the dense network of carbon fibers in the carbon paper. Subsequently, ZnO nanorods were successfully grown on the pre-seeded carbon papers using inexpensive chemical bath deposition. The prepared porous electrodes were electrochemically investigated for improved charge storage and stability under long-term operational conditions. The results show effective capacitive deionization with a maximum areal capacitance of 2 mF/cm2, an energy consumption of 50 kJ per mole of chlorine ions, and an excellent long-term stability of the fabricated C-ZnO electrodes. The experimental results are supported by COMSOL simulations. Historically, the recording of information over paper has always been regarded as the most important factor for maintaining records of human activities and spreading civilization. The present work is focusing to formulate hydride paper polymer sheets (HPPSs) using two fluorescence dyes (4-(2,6-diphenylpyridin-4-yl)-N,N-dimethylaniline) (F1) and (4-(2,6-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)pyridin-4-yl)-N,N-dimethylaniline) (F2) for the production of secure hybrid paper polymer sheets each with a different concentration. Mechanical properties, including tensile strength (MPa), Young's modulus (MPa), elongation (mm), folding endurance, and tear resistance (mN m2/g), were determined. Furthermore, a topographical study was carried out using field emission scanning electron microscopes (FE-SEM). In comparison with native paper and polymer films, HPPSs demonstrated a significant improvement in mechanical properties. The fluorescence behavior of applied dyes was evaluated in both solution and solid states with UV–vis and photoluminescence (PL). The results confirmed that excitation of F1 and F2 dyes occurred at 393 nm and 448 nm and emission at 505 nm and 496 nm, respectively. Additionally, the third concentration (3% w/v) of both dyes was observed in solid state to achieve excellent resolution. In the first image, a note is shown under normal light, and in the second image, a picture is shown of the fluorescent security markings under UV light at 365 nm. Based on the results obtained, it is proven that the developed high stable as well as excellent mechanical security HPPSs can be used for paper-based information security due to their optical properties. Further, the density function theory (DFT) calculation was performed in order to identify the composition of the excited and ground states. The pursuit for sustainability in the papermaking industry calls for the elimination or reduction of synthetic additives and the exploration of renewable and biodegradable alternatives. Cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs), due to their inherent morphological and biochemical properties, are an excellent alternative to synthetic additives. These properties enable CNFs to improve the mechanical, functional, and barrier properties of different types of paper. The nanosize diameter, micrometre length, semicrystalline structure, high strength, and modulus of CNFs have a direct influence on the mechanical properties of paper, such as tensile index, burst index, Scott index, breaking length, tear index, Z-strength, E-modulus, strain at break, and tensile stiffness. This review details the role played by CNFs as an additive to improve strength properties of paper and the factors affecting the improvement in paper quality when CNFs are added as additives. In this article, we report the development and optimization of a cost-effective, biodegradable, disposable, and lightweight conductive polymer deposited on exfoliated graphite paper battery. The anode is made of aluminum foil and the cathode using electrochemically deposited anthraquinone conductive polymers on exfoliated graphite paper. Concentrated sodium chloride salt is used as the electrolyte. The battery shows a maximum capacity of 235 mA h g−1 and a superior cyclability of up to 500 cycles at 50.0 mA cm−2 current density. There are many paper manuscripts at museums, stores, and libraries that have different stains. The dust stains and soil remains played an important role in the degradation of these manuscripts. Therefore, the cleaning process for these stains is important to process. Unfortunately, the removal of stains by some traditional techniques can be hazardous to the paper's fibers. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate innovative nanoparticle gels in the cleaning process of dust stains from paper manuscripts. The synthesized nanomaterials [Fe3O4, TiO2, and ZnO]/Carbopol hybrid nanogel were examined in order to investigate the surface morphology, determine the physio-chemical properties, for phase structure, using scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), AFM, DLS, XRD, and Zeta potential. Some stained paper samples were prepared and exposed to accelerated thermal aging at 100 °C for 72 h. The evaluation of the cleaning by nanogel was performed by different analytical procedures containing investigation with a USB digital microscope, SEM, color change, mechanical properties, and ATR-FTIR analysis. The results of this study showed that ZnO/Carbopol hybrid nanogel at high viscosity gave the best results in the cleaning process of mud stains through the ability to dismantle mud particles and increase surface contact with the solvent. The aged treated sample with high viscosity form of ZnO NPs/carbopol hybrid nanogel gave the highest tensile strength value of (56.0 N). The treated samples with the high viscosity form of ZnO NPs/carbopol hybrid nanogel gave the highest value of elongation (1.398%) before aging. It also does not affect the chemical composition of the paper after cleaning it, but rather on the whole, it bites the hydration of the paper, which positively affects the properties of the treated paper. It is a well-established fact that legally sound evidences are required to prove or disprove any criminal activity. When a particular activity occurs, it leaves a trace out of mutual contact and failure to detect that trace proves the activity did not occur. To enhance the capabilities of the justice system in evaluating evidence, researchers are continuously engaged in the development of novel analytical techniques which provide scientific methodologies for effectively assessing and interpreting the evidence associated with criminal activities. Among the several devices available, paper-based microanalytical devices (μPADs) have attracted the interest of forensic scientists/experts in recent years. These devices are designed with microchannels to which dedicated reagents are added for promoting selective reactions. As a result, they offer a practical and convenient solution for on-site detection of physical evidence, providing ready-to-use capabilities for forensic investigations. This does not only help the investigators in collection of legally sound evidences but also open avenues in apprehending the potential offender who might be present in the scene by detecting the traces. μPADs are inexpensive, simpler to operate, require less chemical consumption, portable, and provides results visible to naked eye. Furthermore, with the aid of digital scoring of color intensity, semi-quantitative results can be generated. This review explains current state of applications and operating chemistry of µPADs involved in analysis of evidences of forensic interest such as explosives, gunshot residue, drugs of abuse, pesticides, body fluids, and estimation of time since death. Korean hand papermaking is a renowned cultural tradition in the Korean peninsula. It is still practiced while scientific analysis of paper itself from a large data set is rare. In this study, a set of more than three hundred Korean handmade papers, collected in a reference collection book Hanji: Korean handmade paper, were chemically investigated, and their property data such as colour, pH, grammage, thickness, tensile strength, folding endurance were statistically analysed in order to determine general features for Korean papers. The influence of different paper sheet formation methods (Heullimtteugi vs Gadumtteugi) were revealed by multivariate data analysis and the chemical profiles of raw materials were studied by pyrolysis–gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS). The Korean handmade paper samples display colour gamut in the colour space L* (69.9–95.9), a* [(−3)-3], b* (0–20), most have neutral/alkaline pH values. Paper density, fiber orientation and physical properties are influenced by the sheet formation techniques. For instance, Gadumtteugi tends to produce papers with strong fiber orientation while Heullimtteugi produces papers with more evenly distribution of fibers. In addition, Py-GC/MS analysis results show that paper mulberry fibers contain less intensity lignin monomers and more terpenic compounds in comparison with gampi and mitsumata fibers. This study provides paper analysis from large sample set, statistics reveal that the material preparing and making craft determined the paper structure which reflected in their physical properties. These properties influenced paper performance and applications in art creations as well as relics conservation and restoration. The characterized paper sample database could be used for handmade paper studies in East Asian region. Cellulose-based materials represent a renewable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly alternative to plastic from fossil resources. Nanopaper is a strong and lightweight material formed from cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs). Paper and nanopaper have been considered as excellent alternatives to plastics for use in agriculture and for packaging applications. However, common for both paper and nanopaper is their hydrophilic character, and consequently, poor water-resistance properties. ORMOCER®s are a class of inorganic–organic polymers with excellent barrier and protective properties used for a range of coating applications. Here we present ORMOCER®-coated paper and nanopaper. The coated papers and nanopapers are characterized, both in terms of their morphology, hydrophobicity, and mechanical properties. We demonstrate that the pressure used during the pressing and drying of paper and nanopaper influence their tear and tensile—properties, and that the morphology of the coated nanopaper differs significantly from that of the coated paper. While the ORMOCER® was impregnated within the porous network of the paper, a well-defined two-layered morphology was obtained with the coated nanopaper. Further, the biodegradability of the nanopaper with and without coating was assessed. The degradation study demonstrated that both the pressure used during the pressing and drying of the nanopaper, and the composition of the ORMOCER®, influenced the rate of degradation. Since oily wastewater has serious harm to the environment and human health, a green paper-based material with underwater superoleophobicity, high wet strength and high flux was developed for the efficient oil–water emulsion separation. A series of key steps, including fiber beating, citric acid (CA) crosslinking, and dielectric barrier discharges (DBD) plasma treatment, were successfully adopted to control the pore size in micron scale, enhance the wet strength, and improve the underwater superoleophobicity, respectively. Moreover, DBD plasma treatment led to a significant increase in the porosity while maintaining the pore size, which is beneficial to improve the flux with high separation efficiency. The maximum porosity and flux can reach 59.7% and 106 L/m2∙h, respectively. The separation efficiency of emulsified oil is high up to 99.60% even when the average droplet size is as low as 0.98 µm. This high-efficiency, low-cost, environmentally-friendly, and recyclable paper-based separation material possesses potential applications in oily wastewater treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Paper-based analytical devices have prominently emerged as a group of diagnostic tools with prospective to eliminate the expensive, time-consuming, and intricate analytical methodologies. Wax printing has been a dominant technique to fabricate hydrophobic patterns on paper for fluid control, but the discontinuation of commercial solid ink printers has begun a genesis of alternate wax patterning strategies. In this study, a simple and rapid fabrication methodology for realizing a 96-well microtiter plate on paper has been developed. The method involves the use of commercially available polystyrene microplates as a stamp for wax patterning. The technique further eradicates the requirement of customized stamps and the step of heating paper substrates for creating wax barriers. Thus, wax stamped paper microplates can be used for a wide range of bioanalytical tests maneuvering reduced generation of non-biodegradable waste, minimal reagent usage, and inexpensive readout strategies. The viability of the fabricated platform has been assessed by colorimetric detection of glutathione using 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine–H2O2 redox system. In quest of developing sustainable separator for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), this research focuses on functionalization of low cost cellulose based commercial paper using duo-polymer and nano-SiO2 by designing a facile aqueous based industry friendly wet-coating process. Unlike commercial plastic based polyolefin separators (polypropylene/polyethylene), the developed paper separator shows superior thermal stability > 200 °C without dimensional shrinkage, excellent electrolyte wettability (147%) with zero contact angle, quicker electrolyte saturation and satisfactory mechanical strength (34.86–38.31 MPa). The electrochemical performance carried out in 2032 coin cells using fabricated paper separators shows comparable performance to that of commercial polypropylene (PP) based separator at different current densities of 0.05–0.4 mA/cm2 with excellent columbic efficiency (> 96%) and good capacity retention on cycling. The developed separator is found to be compatible with most of the commercial electrodes (MCMB, LiCoO2, LiFePO4) used in today's LIBs. The functionalized cellulose-ceramic composite paper separator shows excellent flame retardant properties by offering an added safety features for its successful use in lithium-ion batteries. The softness is an important property of tissue papers products and can be a differentiating factor in terms of consumers preference. So, the manufactures have a concern of optimizing this property starting in their industrial base tissue papers. In this work, a dedicated optical system was used for the surface topography reconstruction to characterize the crepe of 13 different industrial base tissue papers, and to study the relationships with their structural properties. In this context, the main objective was the analysis of the 3D reconstruction surface maps of the samples and the corresponding Fourier transformations for the crepe characterization considering the dominant spatial frequencies, depth, and wavelengths of the crepe folds per length unit. A thorough and detailed study was carried out using only the 4 samples that were found to be the extreme cases in terms of handfeel (HF), the worst two and the best two. These calculations, together with the 3D maps obtained with the optical system, the global and magnified images of their surfaces, and the images of their fibrous suspensions, allowed to infer and discriminate the differences that exist between them, which are important for the evaluation and optimization of the global tissue paper quality in line with the conventional methods. Poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole) (PBO) fibre-based specialty paper has become a promising candidate for high-performance insulating materials due to the remarkable properties of PBO fibres. However, the porous structure and poor interfacial interaction of PBO paper seriously weaken its mechanical strength and greatly limit its practical application. Herein, proposed for the first time, a homogeneous reinforcement strategy is developed to regulate the microstructure of PBO paper and efficiently enhance its overall properties. For this reason, flexible ortho-hydroxy polyamic acid (HPAA) was first synthesized and used to impregnate PBO paper. Subsequently, HPAA was thermally converted into a benzoxazole-containing resin, manifesting excellent interfacial compatibility with PBO paper. As a result, the compact structure and solid interface endow the composite paper with impressive performance. The tensile strength, modulus, and electrical breakdown strength of the composite paper are 116.86 MPa, 5.47 GPa, and 63.7 kV mm−1, respectively, increasing by 33.1, 8.1, and 1.1 times compared with those parameters of the original paper (3.43 MPa, 0.60 GPa, and 30.5 kV mm−1). Moreover, the composite paper also exhibits an ultra-low dielectric constant and loss tangent (1.6 and 0.004 at 106 Hz, respectively), as well as superhigh thermal stability (maximum decomposition temperature, Tmax ≈ 600 °C) due to the elaborate design of the structure. Thus, the mechanical strength has been successfully integrated with the outstanding insulation and thermal properties, rendering the lightweight PBO composite paper promising in the field of high-temperature and high-voltage electrical insulation. The knowledge graph based on research papers can accurately identify and present the latest developments in scientific and technological (S&T) innovation and is of great significance for supporting strategic decision-making relating to S&T innovation in undeveloped areas. Based on the international research papers produced in Gansu Province during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016–2020), five metrics, including the number and characteristics of papers, co-authors, main publications and their fields, major supporting institutions, and main research areas, are established herein. The results indicate that: (i) the total of 29,951 papers were published, which is about 2.89 times that in 2010–2015; (ii) Gansu Province collaborated with 149 countries/regions globally; (iii) the top 5 journals in terms of the number of papers were Medicine, Scientific Reports, RSC Advances, Science of the Total Environment, and Physical Reviews D; (iv) the funding sources were mainly from the national level; and (5) the top 5 research areas were chemistry, engineering, physics, material science, environmental science, and ecology, which accounted for 64.7% of all papers. This study aims to study the possibility of distinguishing the UV–Vis–NIR spectra of filamentous fungi on a paper substrate from the background. Model samples of five filamentous fungi were used: Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger, Cladosporium herbarum, Penicillium chrysogenum, and Trichoderma atroviride. The model samples were cultivated on paper substrates, and two methods, cross-validation (CV) and principal component analysis (PCA), were utilised to compare their spectra with the reference background spectra. The results of the CV analysis indicated that certain combined spectra sets of Cladosporium herbarum, Penicillium chrysogenum, Trichoderma atroviride, Aspergillus niger, and Alternaria alternata, at specific surface concentrations, exhibited two active components, signifying distinguishable differences from the background spectra. Additionally, the score scatter diagrams derived from PCA revealed clusters of samples, further confirming the distinguishability of the filamentous fungi spectra from the background. However, for Trichoderma atroviride, the scatter diagram demonstrated a relatively large scattering of points, impeding the resolution of spectra with a surface concentration of 2 105 cm−2 due to measurement inaccuracies. Based on the combined results of CV and PCA, the study concluded that the lower threshold of measurability for UV–Vis–NIR spectra varied among the different filamentous fungi. For example, Cladosporium herbarum, Penicillium chrysogenum, and Trichoderma atroviride exhibited a threshold around a surface concentration of 2 106 cm−2, while Aspergillus niger had a threshold around 2 105 cm−2, and Alternaria alternata had a threshold around 2 103 cm−2. In summary, this research provides insights into the distinguishability of filamentous fungi spectra on the paper substrate from background spectra using spectral analysis techniques, offering potential applications in fungal identification and characterisation. Mechanical properties of paper coating layers are very important in converting and printing operations. Kaolin is commonly used in paper coating as cheap pigment in addition to its superior properties. In this study, a new approach for improving coated paper mechanical properties using doped kaolin with ammonium molybdate was presented. Kaolin and modified kaolin were characterized using several analyses tools (e.g., XRD, SEM, and EDX), and then they were applied in paper coating mixture. The results revealed that the dopant was found in the kaolin as MoOx; this oxide form with its needle shapes led to change in the kaolin crystals, and its presence in high concentrations led to exfoliation of kaolin. Also, at high concentration it was found that MoOx reacted with γ-alumina that is found in kaolin after its heating at 300°C to form aluminum molybdate. It can be observed that modified kaolin increased the coated paper porosity and consequently the opacity; also bulk and thickness were increased. Significant improvement in coated paper tensile strength, bursting strength, tensile energy absorption, and bending stiffness was also noticed. The effect of in-situ reservoir conditions (high temperature and pressure) on the fracture characteristics (aperture, asperities) and behaviour of fluid through the fractures is a very niche study area for varied energy fields like (i) enhanced geothermal energy systems (ii) nuclear energy storage (iii) CO2 sequestration, (iv) petroleum engineering and (v) storage of liquified natural gas. Keeping this in view many researchers have conducted studies to understand the heat and mass transfer processes occurring in the fractures. Along the same lines Tan et al., 2023 published the paper Thermal Effects Promotes Non-Darcian Flow in Heated Rock Fractures to understand the effect of fluid flow through rock fractures at high temperatures. However, the data presented in the paper by Tan et al., Rock Mech Rock Eng 2023 related to (i) the fracture closure, (ii) the time required for the changes along the fracture, (iii) the thermal expansion effect, and (iv) changes to the phase of water while heating requires further explanation and will otherwise result in the dissemination of incomplete information if not taken care of. Medieval paper, a handmade product, is made with a mould which leaves an indelible imprint on the sheet of paper. This imprint includes chain lines, laid lines and watermarks which are often visible on the sheet. Extracting these features allows the identification of the paper stock and gives information about the chronology, localisation and movement of manuscripts and people. Most computational work for feature extraction of paper analysis has so far focused on radiography or transmitted light images. While these imaging methods provide clear visualisation of the features of interest, they are expensive and time consuming in their acquisition and not feasible for smaller institutions. However, reflected light images of medieval paper manuscripts are abundant and possibly cheaper in their acquisition. In this paper, we propose algorithms to detect and extract the laid and chain lines from reflected light images. We tackle the main drawback of reflected light images, that is, the low contrast attenuation of chain and laid lines and intensity jumps due to noise and degradation, by employing the spectral total variation decomposition and develop methods for subsequent chain and laid line extraction. Our results clearly demonstrate the feasibility of using reflected light images in paper analysis. This work enables feature extraction for paper manuscripts that have otherwise not been analysed due to a lack of appropriate images. We also open the door for paper stock identification at scale. In this work, a disposable sensor array was designed based on the chemi-resistive behavior of the conducting polymers to detect three volatile organic compounds (VOCs), i.e., acetone, ethanol, and methanol in air and breath. Four disposable resistive sensors were designed by coating polypyrrole and polyaniline (in their doped and de-doped forms) on filter paper substrates and tested against VOCs in air. Change in conductivity of the polymer resulting from exposure to various VOC concentration was measured as percentage resistance change using a standard multimeter. The lowest concentration detected for acetone, ethanol, and methanol vapors was 400 ppb, 150 ppb, and 300 ppb, respectively within 2 min. These VOC-responsive sensors, housed in an indigenous inert chamber, showed good stability, repeatability, and reversibility while sensing, thus making it suitable for environmental pollutant detection at room temperature. Furthermore, the non-specific nature of these easy to fabricate sensors towards all VOCs is considered favorable and upon classifying with principal component analysis (PCA), the gases were qualitatively distinguished in separate clusters. The use of solar-driven interfacial evaporation for seawater desalination and wastewater treatment is a promising solution to the pressing freshwater crisis. However, the challenge of developing low-cost, easy-to-make, scalable, and high-performance evaporators for efficient steam generation and stable desalination remains enormous. Herein, a cellulose-based carbon paper (CBCP) with outstanding flexibility and structural stability was successfully prepared by a simple and scalable strategy. The formation of ice crystals during the freeze-drying process effectively enlarges and links the pores among cellulose-based fibers, which would facilitate the evaporation and salt-rejecting capability of the as-obtained photothermal paper. The hierarchical porous structure, high light absorption, and excellent solar-thermal conversion capability give CBCP superior interfacial evaporation performance to produce clean water from a wide range of water sources, including real seawater, high salt wastewater, and dye-contained wastewater. The evaporator achieves a high evaporation rate of 1.25 kg m−2 h−1 (energy conversion efficiency of 80.6%) for real seawater under one sun irradiation and has good salt-rejecting capability. During 10 evaporation cycles (100 h in total), the obtained evaporation rate keeps constant around 1.31 kg m−2 h−1. In addition, about 7.7 kg m−2 of freshwater was produced from seawater per day in the outdoor evaporation test. The disposal of paper mill wastewater (PMW) is a serious environmental issue for the Mediterranean countries. In present study, the Box-Behnken design was used to determine the optimum experimental conditions of coproduct sugarcane bagasse, yeast extract, inoculum size, and temperature on biodegradation of PMW by Pseudomonas putida. This species has manganese and lignin peroxidase activities inducing the valorisation of the treated paper mill effluent in agriculture. The variables involved in Box-Behnken design included sugarcane bagasse (0–0.5–1 ppm), yeast extract (1–2–3%), temperature (20–25–30 °C), and inoculum size (0.6–0.8–1) level with bacterial-treated PMW to determine the effects on batter chemical oxygen demand (COD) and color removal. Predicted values of parameters using model equations were in good agreement with the experimental values with R2 ≥ 0.94. The maximum color and COD removal were obtained at optimized conditions of 1 ppm sugarcane bagasse at 2% of yeast extract with 1.0 inoculum size in temperature 25 °C. It must be noted that the valorization and exploitation of a coproduct such as sugarcane and yeast extract can have a considerable impact on the COD and color removal of PMW. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Paper-based electrochemical analytical devices (ePADs) have gained significant interest as promising analytical units in recent years because they can be fabricated in simple ways, are low-cost, portable, and disposable platforms that can be applied in various fields. In this sense, paper-based electrochemical biosensors are attractive analytical devices since they can promote diagnose several diseases and potentially allow decentralized analysis. Electrochemical biosensors are versatile, as the measured signal can be improved by using mainly molecular technologies and nanomaterials to attach biomolecules, resulting in an increase in their sensitivity and selectivity. Additionally, they can be implemented in microfluidic devices that drive and control the flow without external pumping and store reagents, and improve the mass transport of analytes, increasing sensor sensitivity. In this review, we focus on the recent developments in electrochemical paper-based devices for viruses' detection, including COVID-19, Dengue, Zika, Hepatitis, Ebola, AIDS, and Influenza, among others, which have caused impacts on people's health, especially in places with scarce resources. Also, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the main electrode's fabrication methods, device designs, and biomolecule immobilization strategies. Bloodstream infection (BSI) is a major complication in patients with cancers due to therapy-induced neutropenia and underlying conditions, which increases hospitalization time and mortality rate. Targeted and timely antimicrobial management is crucial to save the patients' lives and reduce the social and economic burdens. Blood culture is a routine clinical diagnostic method of BSI with a long turnaround time, and generally identifies monomicrobial BSI. Thus, polymicrobial BSI often goes undetected although it occurs more frequently in these patients and results in more severe outcomes compared to monomicrobial BSI. In this work, we apply glutaric anhydride, N-hydroxysuccinimide and N,N′-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide to fabricate a functional surface on cellulose filter paper. Targeting three pathogens (Escherichia coli, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and human cytomegalovirus) commonly occurring in BSI in neutropenic patients, we demonstrate rapid and accurate triplex pathogen DNA detection using the functionalized paper. All three pathogen DNA was identified in 1–5 min with a detection limit of 0.1–0.5 ng/µL. The developed test tool has the potential to provide rapid polymicrobial BSI diagnosis in support of timely, accurate antimicrobial treatment, and could be integrated into an automatic sample-to-result portable equipment. Unlike in developed countries, most public toilets in China do not provide toilet paper onsite and users must bring their toilet paper. Moreover, an open waste bin is placed in each user's cubicle to collect used toilet paper and tissues. Such practices, which are common in East Asia and central America, have induced a dilemma of toilet paper disposal because some municipalities have removed waste bins from public toilets to prevent virus transmission by fecal matter. As a consequence, users were forced to flush down their used toilet paper and tissues. Yet, it is unknown whether standard toilet paper can be flushed easily without causing issues in sewer operations. Here, we surveyed the conditions of toilets in university campus and other public facilities in different regions across China. We also evaluated the disintegration characteristics of toilet paper products both by conducting online surveys and by physical disintegration experiments. We found that only 15% of toilets provided toilet paper, while open waste bins occurred at nearly all sites. Further, our survey indicated that 82% of toilet paper products sold in China did not give any indication on their flushability, whereas 77% of US products did. Disintegration results showed that none of the five popular, best-selling toilet paper products passed the flushability standard. The use of microfluidic fuel cells (μFCs) as power sources in the development of non-implantable biomedical devices, such as patch sensors, could be broadened with the use of physiological fluids as fuels and the use of low-cost materials. In this work, we report the evaluation of a paper-based photo-μFC working with human blood as fuel, and we implement a nanocomposite as anode that presents photoactivity under visible light. The electrocatalyst was synthesized using Zn(NO3)2 and TiCl4 as precursors of the ZnO and the TiO2, respectively, which were coated with Au nanoparticles. It was demonstrated that ZnO and TiO2 nanoparticles consisted of crystals with wurtzite and anatase phases, with average sizes of 26.6 and 19.5 nm, respectively, and the TiO2/ZnO/Au nanocomposite presents 2.62 eV of band gap energy, demonstrating its photoactivity under visible light irradiation. The photocatalyst was tested as photoanode in half-cell for glucose oxidation in aqueous solutions, under illumination and dark conditions, showing characteristics peaks of glucose oxidation in both cases, but higher current was generated under illumination. Finally, we present the implementation of this anode and the construction of a paper-based photo-μFC using human blood as fuel; its performance was evaluated under visible light irradiations and in the dark. The results show a better performance under illumination with voltage, current, and power density values of 0.95 V, 1.2 mA cm−2, and 0.458 mW/cm2, respectively, compared to the corresponding values of 0.8 V, 0.96 mA cm−2, and 0.274 mW/cm2 in dark conditions. The aim of the present study is to reconcile previous findings (a) that testing mode has no effect on test outcomes or cognitive load (Comput Hum Behav 77:1–10, 2017) and (b) that younger learners' working memory processes are more sensitive to computer-based test formats (J Psychoeduc Assess 37(3):382–394, 2019). We addressed key methodological limitations in past cognitive load research by employing a repeated measures design with 263, year 9 (aged 13–14) science students in Western Australia. Question difficulty (intrinsic cognitive load) and test mode (extraneous cognitive load) were manipulated to measure changes in test performance, cognitive load and scratch paper use on equivalent paper and computer-based versions of an Ohm's Law revision quiz. Hierarchical linear modelling indicated significantly higher paper-based test performance on difficult questions in addition to greater cognitive load and scratch paper use for all paper questions. Testing mode effects on test score, as well as both measures of cognitive load, were not significant when controlling for working memory capacity, although the testing mode*question difficulty interaction remained significant. Together, these results contradict previous findings that computer-based testing can be implemented without consequence for all learners. With the increased use of computer-based testing in national and international-level assessments, these findings warrant further research into the effect of different testing modes on school-aged students. As the social organism, Polistes wasps build a communal nest using woody fibers with saliva for sustaining brood and adult population throughout the season. Limited information exists regarding the identification specific plant materials employed in wasp nest building. Thus, we firstly tested if the DNA metabarcoding approach utilizing rbcL and trnL molecular markers could identify the plant species quantitatively and qualitatively inform the mixed-origin woody samples. A threshold of 0.01 proportion of reads was applied for rbcL and trnL molecular markers, while this threshold for median proportion was 0.0025. In assessing taxa richness, the median proportion demonstrated superior performance, exhibiting higher taxa detection power, however, rbcL marker outperformed in quantitative analysis. Subsequently, we applied DNA metabarcoding to identify the plant materials from the nests of two Polistes species, P. mandarinus and P. rothneyi. The results showed that higher preference of Quercus and Robinia as the major nest building materials regardless of the surrounding plant communities, by two wasp species. Material diversity was higher for P. rothneyi than P. mandarinus, which may explain the abundance of this species possibly with heightened adaptive capacities in their nesting behavior. This study demonstrated that DNA metabarcoding could identify the complex nest-building plant materials of paper wasps and provide insights into their ecological interactions in the natural ecosystem. Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) may develop following interpersonal and cumulative traumatic events, usually during early development. In addition to the core PTSD symptom profile, CPTSD presents emotional dysregulation symptoms that can be resistant to conventional treatments. Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) may be an effective intervention for addressing the more resistant symptoms in the emotional stabilisation phase of treatment rather than the trauma-processing phase. This paper explores the diagnostic validity and prevalence of CPTSD, treatment recommendations and the role of CFT in mediating shame and stabilising emotional dysregulation. We also evaluate current evidence utilising compassion-based interventions for the components of the CPTSD symptom profile and the viability of CFT as a whole. The novelty of CPTSD as a clinical condition means there is limited evidence regarding recommended treatment. Research into the efficacy of CFT and its suitability to target CPTSD's symptom profile will contribute to the current gap in recommended treatment approaches for this condition. Background: Digital surgery is a new paradigm within the surgical innovation space that is rapidly advancing and encompasses multiple areas. Methods: This white paper from the SAGES Digital Surgery Working Group outlines the scope of digital surgery, defines key terms, and analyzes the challenges and opportunities surrounding this disruptive technology. Results: In its simplest form, digital surgery inserts a computer interface between surgeon and patient. We divide the digital surgery space into the following elements: advanced visualization, enhanced instrumentation, data capture, data analytics with artificial intelligence/machine learning, connectivity via telepresence, and robotic surgical platforms. We will define each area, describe specific terminology, review current advances as well as discuss limitations and opportunities for future growth. Conclusion: Digital Surgery will continue to evolve and has great potential to bring value to all levels of the healthcare system.
