Tin oxide (SnO2) nanoparticles were prepared by green synthesis process using extract of leaf from buckthorn and tin (IV) chloride pentahydrate (SnCl4·5H2O). The materials calcined at 400 °C for 3 h to produce of SnO2 NPs. SnO2 nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, optical microscope, and optical spectroscopy techniques.The result of XRD showed formation tin oxide nanoparticles with tetragonal crystal structure. The optical properties were enhanced with rising concentration from 1.25gm/100 ml to 5gm/100 ml. The optical absorbance (A) enhanced of 42.3% at λ = 340 nm (UV-spectrum), 55.8% at λ = 540 nm (VIS-spectrum) and 53.3% at λ = 840 nm (NIR-spectrum). The energy gap is reduced from 3.31 eV to 3.16 eV while the SnO2 concentration increases from 1.25gm/100 ml to 5gm/100 ml. The obtained results showed that SnO2 thin film are appropriate for numerous electronic, photocatalytic and photonics fields. The SnO2 thin film employed for self cleaning against organic dyes. Eu-doped WO3 (WO3:Eu3+) nanoparticles were prepared by the Pechini method. Tetrabutyl titanate (TBOT) was used to prepare TiO2-encapsulated WO3:Eu3+ nanoparticles (TiO2@WO3:Eu3+). Microstructure and morphology of the prepared nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The results show that the mean diameter of the TiO2@WO3: Eu3+ nano powder prepared at pH = 10 is the smallest, up to 50 nm. The tribological properties of the TiO2@WO3:Eu3+ as extreme pressure and wear resistance agents in water-based lubricant were investigated by a four-ball machine. The results showed that TiO2@WO3:Eu3+ exhibits excellent load-carrying capacity, anti-wear, and anti-friction properties in water-based lubricant, especially when the concentration of TiO2@WO3:Eu3+ was 0.4 wt%. The average wear scar diameter (WSD) was decreased from 0.62 to 0.34 mm and the coefficient of friction (COF) was reduced from 0.0721 to 0.053. Green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) through simple, rapid, eco-friendly and an economical method with a new haloalkaliphilic bacterial strain (Alkalibacillus sp. W7) was investigated. Response surface methodology (RSM) based on Box-Behnken design (BP) was used to optimize the process parameters (ZnSO4.7H2O concentration, temperature, and pH) affecting the size of Alkalibacillus-ZnO NPs (Alk-ZnO NPs). The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using UV–visible spectrum, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM–EDX), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Zeta potential. The UV–Vis spectrum of ZnO NPs revealed a characteristic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) peak at 310 nm. XRD pattern confirmed the hexagonal wurtzite structure of highly pure with a crystallite size 19.5 nm. TEM proved the quasi-spherical shape nanoparticles of size ranging from 1 to 30 nm. SEM–EDX showed spherical shaped and displayed a maximum elemental distribution of zinc and oxygen. ZnAl2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) doped with Cr3+ (1.0 mol%) were prepared by citric acid assisted sol–gel method at pH values of 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 with the use of ammonia as pH controller. Analysis of x-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra show that the synthesized ZnAl2O4 NPs are cubic structured and the pH did not affect the structure significantly. The average crystallite size increases with an increase in pH. The photoluminescence (PL) intensity was found to be minimum and maximum for the sample synthesized at pH 3 and pH 13, respectively. The PL emission intensity was found to depend on the synthesis pH conditions. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) revealed that the morphology of ZnAl2O4:Cr3+ NPs changed with the pH values of the solution. Ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) measurements show that reflectance is maximum in UV and visible region for sample synthesized under acidic pH of 5. The energy band gap energy was tuned from 3.10 to 3.88 eV with increase in pH value from 3 to 13. In the present work (0-20%) Mn doped NiO, (10-20%) Ni doped Mn3O4, and composite NiO/Mn3O4 nanoparticles were synthesized using the solid state reaction method. The purity of the nanoparticles was confirmed using x-ray diffraction (XRD) study. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images confirmed the formation of irregularly shaped nanoparticles with an average diameter of 50-100 nm. Then humidity sensors based on these nanoparticles were fabricated and tested. The doping up to certain content enhanced the sensitivity, and the maximum sensitivity of 70% was observed for 10% Ni doped Mn3O4. These sensors exhibited reasonably fast response and recovery times and were better or comparable to those of similar materials. A series of monodisperse Y2WO6: Dy3+, Gd3+ hierarchical microspheres were synthesized via a facile surfactant-assisted hydrothermal method followed by heat treatment. The as-synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. XRD patterns of the samples with Gd3+ codoping exhibit a merging of (− 232) and (232) peaks, indicating the distorted deformation in Y2WO6 host structure. SEM images demonstrate that the Y2WO6: Dy3+, Gd3+ microspheres are well-dispersed and assembled by many irregular nanoparticles. Upon ultraviolet (UV) excitation at 291 nm, the emission peaks of Dy3+ ions is observed at 480 nm (blue), 579 nm (yellow) and 669 nm (red), corresponding to the characteristic transitions of 4F9/2 → 6H15/2, 4F9/2 → 6H13/2 and 4F9/2 → 6H11/2 of Dy3+, respectively. The optimal PL intensity was obtained in Y2WO6: 2.5 mol% Dy3+ microspheres which can be further enhanced with the codoping of Gd3+. The strongest luminescence is achieved at Gd3+ concentration of 40 mol% with a quantum yied (QY) of 34.45%. In addition, the thermal stability of the sample was also investigated. The CIE of the investigated samples exhibit little change by varying the concentration of Gd3+ ions. TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) doped with different concentrations of manganese (1-8 at.%) were synthesized by sol-gel method and characterized to determine their structure, optical, and magnetic properties. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of Mn-doped TiO2 NPs with anatase structure and that no impurity phases were present. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic data indicated that the amount of Mn in the doped TiO2 samples was slightly lower than the theoretical value, and scanning electron microscope images illustrated a morphology consisting of un-aggregated, well-arranged NPs with a homogeneous size distribution. Particle sizes determined from transmission electron microscope images were found to be 17 and 11 nm for pure and Mn-doped TiO2, respectively. The band gap for pure TiO2 was calculated to be 3.26 eV from ultraviolet-visible reflectance spectra, which decreased to 2.70 eV following 8% Mn-doping. The as-prepared pure TiO2 NPs were found to be weakly paramagnetic at room temperature from vibrating sample magnetometer; however, a transformation from paramagnetic to weak ferromagnetism at room temperature was observed for Mn-doped TiO2 (5 at.%) NPs. Abstract: Nano-functionalization of textiles has been developed for various applications that should be adapted to reduce the utilization of chemicals, energy, processing steps and time of the finishing in view of the ecological and economical restrictions. In the current study, for the first time, we introduce an eco-friendly, feasible and facile approach for producing synthetic or natural fabrics with multi-functional properties via green assembling of copper-based nanoparticles in one single step without the use of further chemicals or external physical apparatuses. Copper acetate was only used as a metal salt with textile substrate as a template at boil without using other chemicals. X-ray diffraction analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, mapping, field-emission scanning electron microscope images, Fourier transform infrared spectra and UV-Vis spectrum were proved the formation of copper or copper oxide nanoparticles on the textile substrates. The treated fabrics indicated very good properties regarding antibacterial, self-cleaning, photocatalytic, UV protection and coloring effect with enhanced mechanical properties. The magnetic behavior of NiZnFeO nanoparticles synthesized by the sol-gel technique route was clarified To figure out the influence of annealing temperature on the structure of NiZnFeO particles, x-ray diffraction (XRD) tool was used and revealed spinel cubic structure without any secondary phases. The particle formation and sizes were obtained using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Elemental composition of the nanoparticles was also provided by an energy-dispersive x-ray analysis tool (EDX). The magnetic behaviors of the synthesized powders annealed at varying temperatures were determined by vibrating sample quantum design PPMS measurement system tool. The present study report is on synthesis and characterization of cadmium oxide nanoparticles (CdO) which were prepared by the microwave irradiation method. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized by various techniques such as X-ray diffraction, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectroscopy, transmission electron microscope, ultraviolet visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and photoluminescence techniques. The CdO nanoparticles are found to be cubic in structure from its XRD pattern. The average particle size was calculated from XRD analysis, which varies from 37 to 19 nm. The nail shaped morphology was confirmed by TEM analysis. Linear optical studies were used to determine the band gap energy of CdO nanoparticles. The DC electrical conductivity studies described the annealed CdO have a maximum conductivity compared to as prepared. In the present study, this report discusses the preparation and photocatalytic properties of pure, Ag and Zn doped and Ag-Zn codoped TiO nanoparticles by sol-gel method. The powder X-ray diffraction study showed that crystallite size of doped and codoped TiO nanoparticles was decreased compared with pure TiO. The decreased particles size was confirmed by high resolution transmission electron microscope and the particle size was in the range of 7-19 nm. The influence of codopant on the morphology of Ag-Zn codoped TiO was clearly observed in the field electron scanning electron microscope. From the UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectrum, it was observed that the doping and codoping of Ag and Zn reduce the energy gap of TiO. The reduced emission intensity of doped and codoped TiO in the photoluminescence spectrum suggests that the Ag and Zn lower the recombination of electron-hole pairs. The increase of Zn dopant level (0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 mol%) at 1 mol% of Ag in the codoped TiO further reduces the emission intensity. The 0.6 mol% of Zn at 1 mol% of Ag in the codoped TiO shows higher photocatalytic degradation ability against Reactive Yellow 145 under visible light compared with all other nanoparticles. In this study, cupric oxide (CuO) nanoparticles were synthesized via sonochemical method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, and transmission electron microscopy. The spherical CuO nanoparticles were dispersed in sodium hexametaphosphate under sonication (25 kHz) to analyze the particle size distribution and UV absorption spectra. Using these absorption spectra, we further examined the CuO nanoparticle to explore the possibility of using them as a material for applications such as solar cell and textile production. Orthorhombic structure perovskite ErCrO nanocrystals were prepared by glycine combustion method. The ErCrO nanocrystals were characterized by XRD, SEM, and BET. The catalytic activity measurements were carried out by DSC and TG-MS. The results indicate that ErCrO nanoparticles have an intense catalytic effect on the decomposition of AP. Adding 2% of ErCrO obtained product to AP decreases the decomposition temperature by 82°C and increases the heat of decomposition by 0.6 kJ g. Gaseous products of thermal decomposition of AP were NH, HO, O, HCl, NO, HNO, NO, NO, and Cl. The mechanism of catalytic action is based on the presence of superoxide ion (O) and oxygenic ion (O, O) on the surface of ErCrO, and they can accelerate the thermal decomposition process of AP and the oxidation of NH. Photocatalysis has emerged as an advance and environmental-friendly process for breakdown of organic contaminants in wastewater. This work reports facile synthesis and characterization of stable magnetic core-shell-shell FeO/SiO/TiO nanoparticles and their effectiveness for photocatalysis. The surface morphology, crystal structure, and chemical properties of the photocatalyst were characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and nitrogen physisorption. Stability of synthesized nanoparticles in aqueous medium was tested by leaching test. The photocatalytic degradation of 2-chlorophenol was investigated and reaction parameters for best catalyst performance were optimized. Catalyst dose of 0.5 g/L under optimized conditions produced complete degradation of 25 mg/L 2-chlorophenol (2-CP) within 130 min of 100-W ultraviolet (UV) irradiation while 97.2 % degradation of 50 mg/L 2-CP was achieved within 3 h. The rate of photocatalytic degradation was determined by considering pseudo first-order kinetics and Hugul's kinetic equations. The Hugul's kinetics was found to provide a better interpretation of the experimental results than the generally adopted pseudo first-order reaction kinetics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study demonstrates the 100% repeated recyclability of hybrid membranes without any pretreatment. Composite membranes designed with titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) and polysulfone (PSf) membranes were used for reduction of chromium (Cr) (VI) to Cr (III) under sunlight. Different concentrations of TiO2 NPs varying from 1.5% to 2.5% with the difference of 0.5% were incorporated into the membrane matrix. Increase in weight percentage of TiO2 particles enhances the reduction to 100% within 2.5 h with an increase in recyclable capacity as well. The effect of recycling on the surface of the membrane was studied using x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The observations in general indicate an increase in roughness without affecting the catalytic efficiency up to six recycles. The study on surface membrane morphology and catalytic efficiency with reusability opens a scope for a feasible economical chromium reduction via a membrane process. Macro and micro structure of the membrane before reduction and after recycling were studied and compared with scientific evidence. MnFeO nanoparticles were synthesized by low-power ultrasonic assisted co-precipitation at two different aging times. In order to investigate the effect of ultrasonic waves on phase formation and magnetic properties of Mn ferrite nanoparticles, two other samples were synthesized in the same conditions but in the absence of ultrasonic waves. Structural and morphological properties of the nanoparticles were examined by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The presence of ultrasonic waves through the reaction medium led to form a single phase of MnFeO at 15 min aging time, while this time was insufficient to form a single phase in the absence of ultrasonic waves. At 60 min aging time, the crystallinity of the sample synthesized in the presence of ultrasonic waves was greater and its particle size was bigger than those of the sample synthesized in the absence of ultrasonic waves. The observed results were evaluated from physico-chemical point of view. It was concluded that the ultrasonic waves led to a slower nucleation rate. The magnetic properties of the nanoparticles were examined by permeameter and Faraday-balance equipment. Copper oxide nanoparticles within zeolite Y have been synthesized by a procedure comprising (i) ion-exchange of copper ions into the zeolite, (ii) precipitation of copper ions with sodium hydroxide within the supercages of the zeolite, and (iii) calcination. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Superconductor samples of the type (CoFeO)GdBaCuO, 0.0≤ x≤0.1 wt.%, were synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction technique and were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). XRD analysis indicated that the orthorhombic structure of Gd-123 is not affected by nanosized ferrite CoFeO addition, whereas the volume fraction of Gd-123 increased up to x=0.01 wt.%. Excess conductivity analysis of the investigated samples was analyzed as a function of temperature using the Aslamazov and Larkin (AL) model. It exhibited four different fluctuation regions, namely critical (cr), three-dimensional (3D), two-dimensional (2D), and short-wave (sw). The zero-temperature coherence length along c-axis, effective layer thickness of the two-dimensional system, and inter-layer coupling strength were estimated as functions of nanosized ferrite CoFeO concentration. In addition, the thermodynamics, lower and upper critical magnetic fields, and critical current density were calculated from the Ginzburg number. It was found that the low concentration of nanosized ferrite CoFeO addition up to x=0.01 wt.% improved the physical properties of Gd-123, while for x>0.01 wt.%, these properties were deteriorated. ZnS:Cu thin films have been deposited on glass substrate by a simple neutral pH solution synthesis route and chemical bath deposition technique. The copper concentration was varied between 0 and 0.1 M%. The X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope studies show the average size of the nanoparticles are below 4 nm (Bohr diameter). The effect of film thickness on the optical and structural properties has been studied. The optical absorption studies show the band gap energy of ZnS:Cu films decreases from 3.68 to 3.43 eV as thickness varied from 318.3 to 334.1 nm. The structural estimation shows the variation in particle size from 2.67 to 3.14 nm with thickness. Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) nanofibers embedding Ag nanoparticles (5–18 nm) have been prepared successfully by electrospinning at room temperature. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Fourier transform IR spectra (FTIR), and Raman scattering were used to characterize the structure and properties of Ag nanoparticle-embedded PVA and PVP nanofibers before and after heat treatment at different temperature. The antibacterial activity of Ag nanoparticle-embedded PVP nanofibers after heat treatment was also tested, which indicated that the biological activity of yeast cells was effectively inhibited by these Ag nanoparticle-embedded PVP nanofibers. pulgite@helical polyurethane composites (ATT@HPU and ATT@PU) were prepared after the surface modification of the attapulgite nano-fibrillar clay (ATT). ATT@HPU and ATT@PU were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results indicate that the helical polyurethane has been successfully grafted onto the surfaces of the modified ATT without destroying the original crystalline structure of ATT. The rod-like fibrous nanoparticles were confirmed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HTEM). The infrared emissivity of ATT@HPU and ATT@PU was also investigated. The results indicate that the singlehanded helical conformation is favored to the reduction of infrared emissivity due to the more regular structure and ordered stereo structures. All-cellulose nanocomposites using bacterial cellulose (BC) as a single raw material were prepared by a surface selective dissolution method. The effect of the immersion time of BC in the solvent (lithium chloride/ N, N-dimethylacetamide) during preparation on the nanocomposite properties was investigated. The structure, morphology and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and tensile testing. The optimum immersion time of 10 min allowed the preparation of nanocomposites with an average tensile strength of 411 MPa and Young's modulus of 18 GPa. With the longest immersion time of 60 min, the prepared composite sheet turns to express a very high toughness characteristic possessing a work-to-fracture as high as 16 MJ/m3. In the present investigation, a multicomponent glass-forming Al83Y5La5Ni5Co2 (at. pct) alloy was spray deposited on a copper substrate to produce an 8-mm-thick plate. The substrate was 30-mm thick and heated to a temperature of 160 °C prior to spray deposition. The temperature of the substrate and the deposit was measured during and after deposition. The deposits as well as oversprayed powders were characterized in terms of the microstructural features by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The phase constitution and transformation were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The oversprayed powder revealed different microstructural characteristics showing crystalline, partially crystalline, and fully featureless particles. The spray deposit showed large fraction of featureless regions with embedded dendrites of 1- to 10- μm size intermetallic phases. These regions were observed to have a nanocrystalline structure with an average grain size of approximately 100 nm. The XRD analysis also revealed the nanocrystallinity in terms of a halo and peak broadening. These microstructural features have been attributed to the deposition of undercooled liquid on a highly conductive copper substrate and rapid heat extraction from the droplets due to proper metallic contact between the deposit and the substrate. Pure and Cr3+-doped hydroxyapatite (HAP) were prepared via chemical precipitation route. The XRD measurements revealed that the typical HAP powder pattern was obtained. SEM analysis indicated that aggregates of nanoparticles were formed. EDX analysis indicates that the [Ca]/[P] concentration ratio was higher than the expected values but can be explained by the presence of carbonate groups as dopants. The optical absorption spectra of the doped samples presented absorption bands typical of Cr3+ occupying to different crystalline sites. From the position of the bands, it was possible to estimate the crystal field parameters for both sites of Cr3+ in the HAP matrix. The emission spectra of the Cr-doped samples were also investigated and typical transitions of the dopant ion, in trivalent state, were identified. Abstract: A rapid combustion process for the preparation of magnetic NixCu(1−x)Fe2O4 (x = 0.1-0.9) nanoparticles was introduced. Magnetic NixCu(1−x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, SAED, and VSM. The results showed that x value, the volume of absolute alcohol and the calcination temperature were the three key factors to the size and properties of NixCu(1−x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles. Ni0.5Cu0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles calcined at 400 °C for 2 h with absolute alcohol of 25 mL were employed to research their adsorption characteristics of methyl blue (MB). The results indicated that the adsorption kinetics of MB onto Ni0.5Cu0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles could match the pseudo-second-order kinetics model very well, while the adsorption isotherm could be described by Langmuir model. It revealed that the adsorption of MB onto Ni0.5Cu0.5Fe2O4 nanoparticles was monolayer adsorption mechanism.
