This study aimed to perform an integrative review of solitary angiokeratomas cases in the oral cavity and to report a new case in a 39-year-old man. A modified PECOS strategy was used using PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science databases, and the reference lists of the selected articles. Case reports of oral solitary angiokeratoma published in English, Portuguese, and Spanish languages with histopathological diagnosis without the presence of systemic disorders were included. Of the 51 articles identified, 18 met the eligibility criteria. Solitary angiokeratomas have a slight male predilection, with a peak incidence in the fourth decade of life. The tongue was the most common localization (77.7%), followed by buccal mucosa (11.1%), labial mucosa (5.6%), and tonsillar pillar (5.6%). The granulomatous appearance was the most frequent clinical aspect. Surgical excision was implemented in 94.4% of the cases. The lesion presented a good prognosis, with no recurrence in 3 to 24 months. In summary, solitary angiokeratoma is a rare lesion in the oral cavity. The professional making the oral diagnosis should be familiar with the clinical manifestation of angiokeratoma and be prepared to consider it in the differential diagnosis of pigmented lesions since these lesions may be part of systemic disorders. This article presents a bibliometric analysis of the scientific production around the epistemic injustice construct in the period 1998–2023. The data to perform the analysis was retrieved from the Scopus and Web of Science databases, and its analysis tool was used to obtain the bibliometric indicators. As part of the analysis, the most relevant authors, the journals with the greatest impact, the countries with the greatest scientific production, and the areas where the subject has had a broader development are presented. In addition, a review of the articles with the greatest impact on scientific production under this theme is included. It is concluded that epistemic injustice is a concept that continues to develop and expand in the humanities and social sciences, health sciences, education and other fields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the increasing concern on workplace diversity, no research has been conducted to providing an objective visualization of the development of this fast-developing area and to complementing prior qualitative and meta-analytic reviews in the Asia-Pacific region. This research uses co-citation and co-occurrence analyses to trace how the landscape of diversity evolved from January 1993 to August 2021, using the scientific visualization tool CiteSpace. Based on a dataset of 636 diversity-related publications in the Asia-Pacific region collected from the Web of Science database, we conduct a bibliometric review to map the landscape, with the focus on identifying landmark researchers, articles, and journals, and the intellectual structure of, and changes in, diversity-related research themes. Further, a narrative review was adopted to summarize the frequently studied diversity themes, to capture the developing trends of diversity research, and to build an integrated model of workplace diversity in the Asia-Pacific context. The global focus on evaluating environmental performance means that sustainable development goals must be prioritized to preserve environmental sustainability. In order to accomplish the SDGs, it is crucial that activities be preferred and that methods be developed to assess their effectiveness. As a result, the techniques used for the measurement and assessment of the SDGs have increased in significance for all countries. Researchers and academics create these technologies through research and invention. By undertaking a bibliometric analysis, this study aims to identify the scholarship in the area of SDG assessment and measurement. The analysis was produced by collecting the related studies from the Web of Science database. The information was retrieved, and a thorough and organized analysis was done to give crucial insights on the chosen issue. The analysis revealed the most often cited articles, important institutions that contributed, leading research-involved nations, and institutions. To evaluate the varied collection of techniques accessible for the goal of evaluating SDGs, a thorough review of the most cited works is conducted and provides a bird's eye view of research on mechanisms for measuring the outcomes of SDGs. Analyzing the feasibility of fuel vehicle transition will be conducive to the realization of the carbon neutralization goal. However, at present, there are few studies specifically aimed at the transition of fuel vehicles. Therefore, this study first analyzed the necessity for the transition of fuel vehicles and then used CiteSpace to analyze 2081 articles in the core Web of Science database in the past decade with "fuel vehicle emission reduction" as the search keyword. After clarifying the research context and development frontier of fuel vehicle emission reduction, we found that most of the literature with the research theme on this topic ends with the research of electric vehicles. Therefore, we took new energy vehicles represented by electric vehicles as the starting point to explore the realization path of carbon neutralization by analyzing the development dilemma and residents' feedback on electric vehicles. Finally, the research review and research prospects were carried out. The study found that although the development of new energy vehicles has made obvious progress at this stage, there are still some problems in comprehensively promoting electric vehicles, such as battery power, charging facilities, and the weak willingness of consumers to accept electric vehicles. Therefore, improving the usage efficiency of new energy vehicles can more effectively force fuel vehicles and new energy vehicles to complete the relay from the perspective of market attraction. Purpose: Although distraction-based growing rods (GR) are the gold standard for the treatment of early onset scoliosis, they suffer from high failure rates. We have (1) performed a literature search to understand the deficiencies of the current protocols, (2) in vitro evaluation of GRs using our proposed protocol and performed a finite element (FE) model validation, and (3) identified key features which should be considered in mechanical testing setups. Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases were searched for articles published on (a) in vivo animal, in vitro cadaveric, and biomechanical studies analyzing the use of GRs as well as (b) failure mechanisms and risk factors for GRs. Both FE and benchtop models of a proposed TGR test construct were developed and evaluated for two cases, long tandem connectors (LT), and side-by-side connectors (SBS). The test construct consisted of five polymer blocks representing vertebral bodies, joined with springs to simulate spinal stiffness. The superior and inferior blocks accepted the pedicle screw anchors, while the three middle blocks were floating. After the pedicle screws, rods, and connectors were assembled onto this construct, distraction was performed, mimicking scoliosis surgery. The resulting distracted constructs were then subjected to static compression-bending loading. Yield load and stiffness were calculated and used to verify/validate the FE results. Results: From the literature search, key features identified as significant were axial and transverse connectors, contoured rods, and distraction, distraction being the most challenging feature to incorporate in testing. The in silico analyses, once they are validated, can be used as a complementing technique to investigate other anatomical features which are not possible in the mechanical setup (like growth/scoliosis curvature). Based on our experiment, the LT constructs showed higher stiffness and yield load compared to SBS (78.85 N/mm vs. 59.68 N/mm and 838.84 N vs. 623.3 N). The FE predictions were in agreement with the experimental outcomes (within 10% difference). The maximum von Mises stresses were predicted adjacent to the distraction site, consistent with the location of observed failures in vivo. Among territorial birds, the number of conspecific neighbours sets the social context of communication. There have been many investigations of vocal behaviour and its important role in territory defense and mate attraction in birds; however, the effect of the density of conspecific neighbours on avian communication has received little attention. In this study, we reviewed the literature on the influence of local density on vocal communication in birds, exploring how the number of conspecific neighbours influences avian vocal behaviour, by conducting a literature review following the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) in two databases: Web of Science and Scopus. We also included additional articles from a more flexible search in Google Scholar. We found 19 studies of birds that included data on vocal behaviour in relation to the number of conspecific neighbours. The majority of these studies (14 of 19) showed that local density influences avian vocal behaviour. Overall, these studies revealed an effect of local density of conspecifics on song rate (expressed as song rate, syllable rate, solo song rate, or singing rate). Other vocal behaviours that were shown to vary with local density included song-type switching, song duration, peak frequency, and song variation. Most studies focused on temperate-zone species where males are the predominant singers. Our results reveal a bias towards the study of male songs in the context of local density, with very few studies on female song; this corresponds with a historical geographical focus on temperate birds. We present experimental design suggestions for future investigations, including predictions for males and females of tropical and temperate species. Finally, we argue that more research on this topic is needed, and that investigations of vocal communication will benefit from further study of the influence of density on avian vocal behaviour. Background: The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is one of the most commonly performed procedures for surgical weight loss. It has been shown that overweight may be associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer. However, the risk of remnant gastric cancer after RYGB has not been defined yet and the development of neoplasm in the excluded stomach remains a matter of concern. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases were consulted. Articles that described the diagnosis and management of remnant gastric cancer after RYGB were considered. Results: Seventeen patients were included. The age of the patient population ranged from 38 to 71 years. The most commonly reported symptoms were abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, and anemia. Abdominal computed tomography was used for diagnosis in the majority of patients. The neoplasm was located in the antrum/pre-pyloric region in 70% of cases and adenocarcinoma was the most common tumor histology (80%). An advanced tumor stage (III–IV) was diagnosed in almost 70% of patients and 40% were considered unresectable. Gastrectomy with lymphadenectomy was performed in 9 cases (53%). Post-operative morbidity was 12%. The follow-up ranged from 3 to 26 months and the overall disease-related mortality rate was 33.3%. Conclusion: The development of remnant gastric cancer after RYGB is rare. Surgeons should be aware of this potential event and the new onset of epigastric pain, nausea, and anemia should raise clinical suspicion. Further epidemiologic studies are warranted to deeply investigate the post-RYGB-related risk of remnant gastric cancer development in high-risk populations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fibromyalgia is a multifaceted disease. The clinical picture of fibromyalgia covers numerous comorbidities. Each comorbidity stands as a distinct condition. However, common pathophysiologic factors are occupied in their background. Along with the genetic, environmental and neuro-hormonal factors, inflammation has been supposed to have role in the pathogenesis of fibromyalgia. The aim of the present article was to review the current literature regarding the potential role of inflammation in the pathogenesis and treatment of fibromyalgia. A literature search was conducted through PubMed/MEDLINE and Web of Science databases using relevant keywords. Recent evidence on this highly studied topic indicates that fibromyalgia has an immunological background. Cytokines/chemokines, lipid mediators, oxidative stress and several plasma-derived factors underlie the inflammatory state in fibromyalgia. There are potential new therapeutic options targeting inflammatory pathways in fibromyalgia patients. In conclusion, there is evidence to support the inflammation-driven pathways in the pathogenesis of fibromyalgia. However, further research is required to fully understand the network of inflammation and its possible role in diagnosis and/or treatment of fibromyalgia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The development of achalasia after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is rare. Heller myotomy (HM) is the gold standard treatment while peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is an emerging technique with promising results. The aim of this narrative review was to summarize the current knowledge on the treatment of esophageal achalasia after RYGB. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases were consulted. All articles that described the management of achalasia after RYGB were included in this narrative review. Results: Twelve studies for a total of 28 patients were included. The age of the patient population ranged from 44 to 70 years old and 80% were females. Overall, 61.5% underwent laparoscopic RYGB while 38.5% underwent open RYBG. The elapsed time from the RYGB to myotomy ranged from 14 months to 14 years. Dysphagia (64%) and regurgitation (60.7%) were the most commonly reported symptoms; type I achalasia was diagnosed in 50% of patients. Surgical HM was performed in 17 patients (61%) while POEM was performed in 11 patients (39%). Postoperative morbidity was 3.6% with no differences comparing surgical HM and POEM (6% vs. 0%, p = 0.43). The follow-up time ranged from 1 to 43 months. The overall recurrence rate requiring reoperation was 7% with no differences comparing surgical HM and POEM (12% vs. 0%; p = 0.25). Conclusion: Both HM and POEM seem feasible, safe, and effective in the management of achalasia after RYGB. The role of POEM in the management algorithm of these patients should be further evaluated.
