The authors discuss studies related to fluid therapy in kidney patients that were released in 2012. They describe a study which investigated patients with severe sepsis who were assigned to fluid resuscitation with six percent hydroxyethyl starch (HES). They also mention a study which examined the link between a chloride-liberal or a chloride-restrictive fluid administration strategy and acute kidney injury. They conclude that the studies pave way for more evidence-based fluid administration.
