Scheelite, one kind of common REE-rich and U-bearing hydrothermal mineral, is extensively developed in various types of gold deposits, which can be used to record nature and timing of metallogenesis. The Zhaishang Carlin-like gold deposit in the Qinling Orogen is a giant Au deposit, hosting 127t of Au @ 2.67 g/t with economic concentrations of tungsten and antimony. The study reports two types of scheelite based on the characteristics of petrography and geochemistry. Sch A shows significant oscillatory zoning with dark gray cathodoluminescence (CL) response, whereas Sch B displays patchy textures with brighter CL response. Systematic LA-ICP-MS U–Pb dating of Sch A and Sch B yields ages of 227.1 ± 3.2 Ma and 226.2 ± 6.9 Ma, respectively. The new dates, constraining the Zhaishang Au–W mineralization to ~ 227Ma, coincide well with the western Qinling magmatism, metallogenic and tectonic events. There are significant variations in concentration, the Sch A has low REE content (mean = 41.3 ppm), negative Eu-anomaly with slightly positive Ce-anomaly, whereas Sch B, with small negative or positive Eu-anomaly, has higher REE content (mean = 247 ppm) and higher positive Ce-anomaly. The positive correlation of EuN and EuN* records oxidizing condition during the whole W mineralization event. Additionally, Sch B intergrown with selenides with an increase in the Ce-anomaly supports that the latter has higher oxygen fugacity environment. The Sr isotope signature for scheelite supports that ore-forming metals mostly inherited the host rock component, while the proportion of magma-derived Sr increased in the Sch B. Fluid–rock interactions co-precipitated Au and W caused by the release of Fe and Ca cations and the increase of pH. The study highlights that scheelite as a recorder can help in deciphering the nature and timing of metallogenesis of the studied Au–Sb–W deposit, and thus other similar Au–W deposits. It is established for the first time that biotite plagiogneisses from the Garevka metamorphic complex of the North Yenisei Ridge have geochemical characteristics of C-type adakites with island-arc melt sources. The Hf isotopic composition of zircons indicates the participation of several sources in the formation of the granite melt, including the juvenile mantle and older crustal rock protoliths with model ages THf(DM)с = 1838–1916 and 1965–2357 Ma, respectively. Based on the results of U–Pb dating of zircons, new pulses of Neoproterozoic endogenous activity at the western margin of the Siberian Craton (913 ± 11 and 915 ± 36 Ma for adakite-like granites and 932 ± 26 Ma for leucogranites), correlating with the Grenville tectonic events, were determined. These Grenville episodes of regional crustal evolution are correlated with the synchronous successions and a similar style of tectonothermal events along the Arctic margin of the supercontinent Rodinia. This confirms the spatial proximity of Siberia and the North Atlantic cratons (Laurentia and Baltica), which is consistent with the proposed Neoproterozoic paleogeographic reconstructions of Rodinia. Anorogenic granite xenoliths occur in alkali basalts coeval with the Pliocene-Pleistocene continental rifting of the Pannonian Basin. Observed granite varieties include peraluminous, calcic to peralkalic, magnesian to ferroan types. Quartz and feldspars are dominant rock-forming minerals, accompanied by minor early ilmenite and late magnetite-ulvöspinel. Zircon and Nb-U-REE minerals (oxycalciopyrochlore, fergusonite, columbite) are locally abundant accessory phases in calc-alkalic types. Absence of OH-bearing Fe, Mg-silicates and presence of single homogeneous feldspars (plagioclase in calcic types, anorthoclase in calc-alkalic types, ferrian Na-sanidine to anorthoclase in alkalic types) indicate water-deficient, hypersolvus crystallization conditions. Variable volumes of interstitial glass, absence of exsolutions, and lacking deuteric hydrothermal alteration and/or metamorphic/metasomatic overprint are diagnostic of rapid quenching from hypersolidus temperatures. U-Pb zircon ages determined in calcic and calc-alkalic granite xenoliths correspond to a time interval between 5.7 and 5.2 Ma. Positive εHf values (14.2 ± 3.9) in zircons from a 5.2-Ma-old calc-alkalic granite xenolith indicate mantle-derived magmas largely unaffected by the assimilation of crustal material. This is in accordance with abundances of diagnostic trace elements (Rb, Y, Nb, Ta), indicating A-type, OIB-like source magmas. Increased accumulations of Nb-U-REE minerals in these granites indicate higher degree of the magmatic differentiation reflected in Rb-enrichment, contrasting with Ba-enrichment in barren xenoliths. Incipient charnockitization, i.e. orthopyroxene and ilmenite crystallization from interstitial silicate melt, was observed in many granite xenoliths. Thermodynamic modeling using pseudosections showed that the orthopyroxene growth may have been triggered by water exsolution from the melt during ascent of xenoliths in basaltic magma. Euhedral-to-skeletal orthopyroxene growth probably reflects contrasting ascent rates of basaltic magma with xenoliths, intermitted by the stagnation in various crustal levels at a <3 kbar pressure. The Tertiary suite of intra-plate, mantle-derived A-type granites and syenites is geochemically distinct from pre-Tertiary, post-orogenic A-type granites of the Carpatho-Pannonian region, which exhibit geochemical features diagnostic of crustal melting along continental margins. The results of investigations of gneissose hornblende granitoids, which intrude terrigenous deposits of the Murandav Formation of the Khingan Group and which were deformed together with them due to later structural transformations, are given. It is shown that by their geochemical properties these granitoids are comparable with granitoids of type I and are 535 ± 6 Ma old (U-Pb method on zircons). The obtained data indicate that dikes of hornblende granites, which intrude terrigenous rocks of the Murandav Formation of the Khingan Group and are deformed together with them, were embedded at the Cambrian and Ediacaran transition. The assumption that terrigenous deposits of the Khingan Group (at least the Murandav and underlying Igincha formations) were accumulated in the Neoproterozoic is supported. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article presents a study regarding Uranium-Lead (U-Pb) dating of Zircon from the Chelyabinsk meteorite. Topics include Distribution of rare elements in zircon from the Chelyabinsk meteorite; ,processes that resulted in the formation of zircon grains in the meteorite with the different concentrations of rare and rare earth elements and with the different oxygen isotope compositions; and effect of repeated impacts of the meteorite parental body with other objects on zircon formation.

This report presents the results of U-Pb-geochronological studies (LA-ICP-MS) of detrital zircons from metasedimentary rocks of the west of the Yankan terrane (one of the largest within the structure of the Mongolian-Okhotsk mobile belt). The performed studies ascertain sufficiently the current notions of the geological development of the terrane. It is shown that the rocks are different in age from the main populations of detrital zircons and in the Sm-Nd isotope-geochemical characteristics. In view of this, one may suppose that these rocks do not belong to the unified stratigraphic series but are included into the structures of different-aged accretionary complexes. The terrigenous deposits of the Baldizhak series, as well as those of the Krestovka and Dzhalinda suites, probably belong to the accretionary complexes formed in front of the southeastern margin of the North-Asian craton. On the contrary, the sedimentary formations of the Preobrazhenovka suite are most likely constituents of the accretionary complex formed near the southern margin of the Amur superterrane. The absence of detrital zircons of Mesozoic age in the treated rocks allows one to assume that the considered accretionary complexes were formed during the Paleozoic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article focuses on the study on which aims to determine the Riphean age of zircons from alkaline syenites of the Karsakpai massif of South Ulutau in Central Kazakhstan with the uranium-lead (U-Pb) method. It mentions that the granitoids varying in chemical composition associated with Precambrian metamorphic strata were considered as coarse-grained gneissic granites (Zhaunkarskii complex), porphyroblastic granite-gneisses, and sub-alkaline potassic granites (Aktas complex). It states that the characteristics features of syenites of the Karsakpai granites and massif of the Aktas complex are massive structures and an absence of metamorphic transformations. Furthermore, it says that the age of intrusion of the massif allows to consider more ancient metamorphic complexes as Pre-Riphean.

In a geochemical and geochronological investigation of Archean and Proterozoic magmatism in the Nellore Schist Belt, we conducted SHRIMP U-Pb analyses of zircons from two cospatial granitic bodies at Guramkonda and Vendodu. The former is a Ba- and Sr-rich hornblende-bearing tonalite, whereas the latter is a Rb-, Zr-, Pb-, Th-, U-, and REE-rich biotite-bearing leucogranite. The Guramkonda tonalite displays a restitic texture with remnants of trapped granitic melt, whereas the Vendodu leucogranite contains residual/partially melted plagioclase grains. Both rock types contain two generations of zircon: tonalite contains a group of euhedral zoned zircons enclosed within plagioclase and a group of subhedral patchy zircons associated with trapped melt (quartz + feldspar matrix), and leucogranite also contains a group of doubly terminated euhedral zircons included within orthoclase as well as a group of zircons with visible cores mantled by later rim growth. Cathodoluminescence images also clearly document two distinctly textured varieties of zircon: the tonalite contains a population characterized by narrowly spaced uninterrupted oscillatory zoning and a second population lacking zoning but exhibiting a random distribution of dark (U-rich) and light (U-poor) regions; the leucogranite contains U-rich zoned zircons and U-poor zircon cores mantled by U-rich rims. The REE chemistry of zircon cores from the Vendodu leucogranite is very similar to the REE of zoned zircons from the Guramkonda tonalite. Zircon ages from both plutons exhibit bimodal distributions in U-Pb concordia diagrams. The tonalite defines an age of 2,521 Ma ± 5 Ma for zoned magmatic zircons and 2,485 Ma ± 5 Ma for unzoned newly precipitated zircons, whereas the leucogranite has an age of 2,518 Ma ± 5 Ma for U-poor zircon cores (relics of the tonalite pluton) and 2,483 Ma ± 3 Ma for U-rich zoned magmatic zircons. The trace element geochemistry of the ~2,520 Ma zircons is distinctly different from the ~2,485 Ma zircons, irrespective of the host rock. Our textural, CL image, and SHRIMP U-Pb analyses document the origin of the leucogranite by partial melting of the tonalite. High alkalis (NaO + KO), Rb, Nb, HREE, FeO/MgO and low Ca, Al, Ba, Sr, and large negative Eu anomalies characterize the leucogranite as a thermal minimum melt, whereas the very low K and Rb of the tonalite attests to its residual nature. We suggest that the leucogranite formed by high-T (900-950°C), moderate-pressure (<10 kbar) dehydration partial melting of the tonalite under reducing conditions. The calculated source compositions of the leucogranite melt and the tonalite residue show strong similarities to melts that are considered to have been produced in a subduction-zone environment. The article discusses the study on the mineralogy, geochemistry and age peculiarities of zircon distribution on gneissose leucocratic miaskites of the Ilmenogorsk massif deposit at the southern region of Ural Mountains in Russia. Researchers conducted recrystallization of the zircon samples from amphibole miaskites that yielded formation of emulsion structures, crushing and corrosion, and new growth. From the authors' findings, ages of miaskite crystallization, 434 plus 15 minus 10 million years (Ma), and metamorphism, 239 plus 40 minus 45 Ma, were determined by standard uranium-lead (U-Pb) dating method.

Granulite facies rocks frequently show a large spread in their zircon ages, the interpretation of which raises questions: Has the isotopic system been disturbed? By what process(es) and conditions did the alteration occur? Can the dates be regarded as real ages, reflecting several growth episodes? Furthermore, under some circumstances of (ultra-)high-temperature metamorphism, decoupling of zircon U-Pb dates from their trace element geochemistry has been reported. Understanding these processes is crucial to help interpret such dates in the context of the P-T history. Our study presents evidence for decoupling in zircon from the highest grade metapelites (> 850 °C) taken along a continuous high-temperature metamorphic field gradient in the Ivrea Zone (NW Italy). These rocks represent a well-characterised segment of Permian lower continental crust with a protracted high-temperature history. Cathodoluminescence images reveal that zircons in the mid-amphibolite facies preserve mainly detrital cores with narrow overgrowths. In the upper amphibolite and granulite facies, preserved detrital cores decrease and metamorphic zircon increases in quantity. Across all samples we document a sequence of four rim generations based on textures. U-Pb dates, Th/U ratios and Ti-in-zircon concentrations show an essentially continuous evolution with increasing metamorphic grade, except in the samples from the granulite facies, which display significant scatter in age and chemistry. We associate the observed decoupling of zircon systematics in high-grade non-metamict zircon with disturbance processes related to differences in behaviour of non-formula elements (i.e. Pb, Th, U, Ti) at high-temperature conditions, notably differences in compatibility within the crystal structure.
