The rapid discrimination of bacteria is currently an emerging trend in the fields of food safety, medical detection, and environmental observation. Traditional methods often require lengthy culturing processes, specialized analytical equipment, and bacterial recognition receptors. In response to this need, we have developed a paper-based fluorescence sensor array platform for identifying different bacteria. The sensor array is based on three unique carbon quantum dots (CQDs) as sensing units, each modified with a different antibiotic (polymyxin B, ampicillin, and gentamicin). These antibiotic-modified CQDs can aggregate on the bacterial surface, triggering aggregation-induced fluorescence quenching. The sensor array exhibits varying fluorescent responses to different bacterial species. To achieve low-cost and portable detection, CQDs were formulated into fluorescent ink and used with an inkjet printer to manufacture paper-based sensor arrays. A smartphone was used to collect the responses generated by the bacteria and platform. Diverse machine learning algorithms were utilized to discriminate bacterial types. Our findings showcase the platform's remarkable capability to differentiate among five bacterial strains, within a detection range spanning from 1.0 × 103 CFU/mL to 1.0 × 107 CFU/mL. Its practicality is further validated through the accurate identification of blind bacterial samples. Large language models (LLMs) are an exciting breakthrough in the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence (AI), offering unparalleled potential in a variety of application domains such as finance, business, healthcare, cybersecurity, and so on. However, concerns regarding their trustworthiness and ethical implications have become increasingly prominent as these models are considered black-box and continue to progress. This position paper explores the potentiality of LLM from diverse perspectives as well as the associated risk factors with awareness. Towards this, we highlight not only the technical challenges but also the ethical implications and societal impacts associated with LLM deployment emphasizing fairness, transparency, explainability, trust and accountability. We conclude this paper by summarizing potential research scopes with direction. Overall, the purpose of this position paper is to contribute to the ongoing discussion of LLM potentiality and awareness from the perspective of trustworthiness and responsibility in AI. Real-world information is often characterized by uncertainty and partial reliability, which led Zadeh to introduce the concept of Z-numbers as a more appropriate formal structure for describing such information. However, the computation of Z-numbers requires solving highly complex optimization problems, limiting their practical application. Although linguistic Z-numbers have been explored for their computational straightforwardness, they lack theoretical support from Z-number theory and exhibit certain limitations. To address these issues and provide theoretical support from Z-numbers, we propose a Z-number linguistic term set to facilitate more efficient processing of Z-number-based information. Specifically, we redefine linguistic Z-numbers as Z-number linguistic terms. By analyzing the hidden probability density functions of these terms, we identify patterns for ranking them. These patterns are used to define the Z-number linguistic term set, which includes all Z-number linguistic terms sorted in order. We also discuss the basic operators between these terms. Furthermore, we develop a multi-criteria group decision-making (MCGDM) model based on the Z-number linguistic term set. Applying our method to predict the acceptance of academic papers, we demonstrate its effectiveness and superiority. We compare the performance of our MCGDM method with five existing Z-number-based MCGDM methods and eight traditional machine learning clustering algorithms. Our results show that the proposed method outperforms others in terms of accuracy and time consumption, highlighting the potential of Z-number linguistic terms for enhancing Z-number computation and extending the application of Z-number-based information to real-world problems. Traditionally, specific bioreceptors such as antibodies have rapidly identified bacterial species in environmental water samples. However, this method has the disadvantages of requiring an additional process to conjugate or immobilize bioreceptors on the assay platform, which becomes unstable at room temperature. Here, we demonstrate a novel mix-and-match method to identify bacteria species by loading the bacterial samples with simple bacteria interacting components (not bioreceptors), such as lipopolysaccharides, peptidoglycan, and bovine serum albumin, and carboxylated particles, all separately on multiple channels. Neither covalent conjugation nor surface immobilization was necessary. Interactions between bacteria and the above bacteria interacting components resulted in varied surface tension and viscosity, leading to various flow velocities of capillary action through the paper fibers. The smartphone camera and a custom Python code recorded multiple channel flow velocity, each loaded with different bacteria interacting components. A multi-dimensional data set was obtained for a given bacterial species and concentration and used as a machine learning training model. A support vector machine was applied to classify the six bacterial species: Escherichia coli, Salmonella Typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium, and Bacillus subtilis. Microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) have been widely used in point-of-care testing owing to their simple operation, low volume of the sample required, and the lack of the need for an external force. To obtain accurate semi-quantitative or quantitative results, μPADs need to respond to the challenges posed by differences in reaction conditions. In this paper, multi-layer μPADs are fabricated by the imprinting method for the colorimetric detection of C-reactive protein (CRP). Different lighting conditions and shooting angles of scenes are simulated in image acquisition, and the detection-related performance of μPADs is improved by using a machine learning algorithm. The You Only Look Once (YOLO) model is used to identify the areas of reaction in μPADs. This model can observe an image only once to predict the objects present in it and their locations. The YOLO model trained in this study was able to identify all the reaction areas quickly without incurring any error. These reaction areas were categorized by classification algorithms to determine the risk level of CRP concentration. Multi-layer perceptron, convolutional neural network, and residual network algorithms were used for the classification tasks, where the latter yielded the highest accuracy of 96%. To achieve clinical impact in daily oncological practice, emerging AI-based cancer imaging research needs to have clearly defined medical focus, AI methods, and outcomes to be estimated. AI-supported cancer imaging should predict major relevant clinical endpoints, aiming to extract associations and draw inferences in a fair, robust, and trustworthy way. AI-assisted solutions as medical devices, developed using multicenter heterogeneous datasets, should be targeted to have an impact on the clinical care pathway. When designing an AI-based research study in oncologic imaging, ensuring clinical impact in AI solutions requires careful consideration of key aspects, including target population selection, sample size definition, standards, and common data elements utilization, balanced dataset splitting, appropriate validation methodology, adequate ground truth, and careful selection of clinical endpoints. Endpoints may be pathology hallmarks, disease behavior, treatment response, or patient prognosis. Ensuring ethical, safety, and privacy considerations are also mandatory before clinical validation is performed. The Artificial Intelligence for Health Imaging (AI4HI) Clinical Working Group has discussed and present in this paper some indicative Machine Learning (ML) enabled decision-support solutions currently under research in the AI4HI projects, as well as the main considerations and requirements that AI solutions should have from a clinical perspective, which can be adopted into clinical practice. Investigating the relevant literature is very important for research activities. However, it is difficult to select the most appropriate and important academic papers from the enormous number of papers published annually. Researchers search paper databases by combining keywords, and then select papers to read using some evaluation measure—often, citation count. However, the citation count of recently published papers tends to be very small because citation count measures accumulated importance. This paper focuses on the possibility of classifying high-quality papers superficially using attributes such as publication year, publisher, and words in the abstract. To examine this idea, we construct classifiers by applying machine-learning algorithms and evaluate these classifiers using cross-validation. Additive manufacturing (AM) offers the advantage of producing complex parts more efficiently and in a lesser production cycle time as compared to conventional subtractive manufacturing processes. It also provides higher flexibility for diverse applications by facilitating the use of a variety of materials and different processing technologies. With the exceptional growth of computing capability, researchers are extensively using machine learning (ML) techniques to control the performance of every phase of AM processes, such as design, process parameters modeling, process monitoring and control, quality inspection, and validation. Also, ML methods have made it possible to develop cybermanufacturing for AM systems and thus revolutionized Industry 4.0. This paper presents the state-of-the-art applications of ML in solving numerous problems related to AM processes. We give an overview of the research trends in this domain through a systematic literature review of relevant journal articles and conference papers. Low energy surface coatings have found wide range of applications for generating hydrophobic and superhydrophobic surfaces. Most of the studies have been related to use of a single coating material over a single substrate or using a single technique. The degree of hydrophobicity is highly dependent on fabrication processes as well as materials being coated and as such warrants a high-level study using experimental optimization leading to the evaluation of the parametric behavior of coatings and their application techniques. Also, a single platform or system which can predict the required set of parameters for generating hydrophobic surface of required nature for given substrate is of requirement. This work applies the powerful machine learning algorithms (Levenberg Marquardt using Gauss Newton and Gradient methods) to evaluate the various processes affecting the anti-wetting behavior of coated printable paper substrates with the capability to predict the most optimized method of coating and materials that may lead to a desirable surface contact angle. Industry involvement in the machine learning (ML) community seems to be increasing. However, the quantitative scale and ethical implications of this influence are rather unknown. For this purpose, we have not only carried out an informed ethical analysis of the field, but have inspected all papers of the main ML conferences NeurIPS, CVPR, and ICML of the last 5 years—almost 11,000 papers in total. Our statistical approach focuses on conflicts of interest, innovation, and gender equality. We have obtained four main findings. (1) Academic–corporate collaborations are growing in numbers. At the same time, we found that conflicts of interest are rarely disclosed. (2) Industry papers amply mention terms that relate to particular trending machine learning topics earlier than academia does. (3) Industry papers are not lagging behind academic papers with regard to how often they mention keywords that are proxies for social impact considerations. (4) Finally, we demonstrate that industry papers fall short of their academic counterparts with respect to the ratio of gender diversity. We introduce a comprehensive benchmark for local features and robust estimation algorithms, focusing on the downstream task—the accuracy of the reconstructed camera pose—as our primary metric. Our pipeline's modular structure allows easy integration, configuration, and combination of different methods and heuristics. This is demonstrated by embedding dozens of popular algorithms and evaluating them, from seminal works to the cutting edge of machine learning research. We show that with proper settings, classical solutions may still outperform the perceived state of the art. Besides establishing the actual state of the art, the conducted experiments reveal unexpected properties of structure from motion pipelines that can help improve their performance, for both algorithmic and learned methods. Summary: Due to the convenience of virtualization, the live migration of virtual machines is widely used to fulfill optimization objectives in cloud/edge computing. However, live migration may lead to side effects and performance degradation when migration is overused or an unreasonable migration process is carried out. One pressing challenge is how to capture the best opportunity for virtual machine migration. Leveraging rough sets and AI, this paper provides an innovative strategy based on Q-learning that is designed for migration decisions. The highlight of our strategy is the harmonious mechanism for applying rough sets and Q-learning. For the ABDS (adaptive boundary decision system) strategy in this paper, the exploration space of Q learning is confined by the boundary region of rough sets, while the thresholds of the boundary region can be dynamically adjusted by the reaction results from the computing cluster. The structure and mechanism of the ABDS strategy are described in this paper. The corresponding experiments show a firm advantage for the cooperation of rough sets and reinforcement learning algorithms. Around a third of the total population of Europe suffers from mental disorders. The use of electroencephalography (EEG) together with Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to diagnose mental disorders has recently been shown to be a prominent research area, as exposed by several reviews focused on the field. Nevertheless, previous to the application of ML algorithms, EEG data should be correctly preprocessed and prepared via Feature Engineering (FE). In fact, the choice of FE techniques can make the difference between an unusable ML model and a simple, effective model. In other words, it can be said that FE is crucial, especially when using complex, non-stationary data such as EEG. To this aim, in this paper we present a Systematic Mapping Study (SMS) focused on FE from EEG data used to identify mental disorders. Our SMS covers more than 900 papers, making it one of the most comprehensive to date, to the best of our knowledge. We gathered the mental disorder addressed, all the FE techniques used, and the Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithm applied for classification from each paper. Our main contributions are: (i) we offer a starting point for new researchers on these topics, (ii) we extract the most used FE techniques to classify mental disorders, (iii) we show several graphical distributions of all used techniques, and (iv) we provide critical conclusions for detecting mental disorders. To provide a better overview of existing techniques, the FE process is divided into three parts: (i) signal transformation, (ii) feature extraction, and (iii) feature selection. Moreover, we classify and analyze the distribution of existing papers according to the mental disorder they treat, the FE processes used, and the ML techniques applied. As a result, we provide a valuable reference for the scientific community to identify which techniques have been proven and tested and where the gaps are located in the current state of the art. This paper provides a systematic literature review of text analysis methodologies used in blockchain-related research to comprehend and synthesize existing studies across disciplines and define future research directions. We summarize the research scope, text data, and methodologies of 124 papers and identify the two most common combinations of these dimensions: (1) papers that focus on specific cryptocurrencies tend to apply sentiment analysis to instant user-generated content or news articles to discover the correlations between public opinion and market behavior, and (2) studies that examine the broad concept of blockchain with text data from documents published by companies tend to apply topic modeling techniques to explore classifications and trends in blockchain development. We discover five major research topics in the academic literature: relationship discovery, cryptocurrency performance prediction, classification and trend, crime and regulation, and perception of blockchain. Nowadays, literature review is a necessary task when trying to solve a given problem. However, an exhaustive literature review is very time-consuming in today's vast literature landscape. It can take weeks, even if looking only for abstracts or surveys. Moreover, choosing a method among others, and targeting searches within relevant problem and solution domains, are not easy tasks. These are especially true for young researchers or engineers starting to work in their field. Even if surveys that provide methods used to solve a specific problem already exist, an automatic way to do it for any use case is missing, especially for those who don't know the existing literature. Our proposed tool, SARBOLD-LLM, allows discovering and choosing among methods related to a given problem, providing additional information about their uses in the literature to derive decision-making insights, in only a few hours. The SARBOLD-LLM comprises three modules: (1: Scopus search) paper selection using a keyword selection scheme to query Scopus API; (2: Scoring and method extraction) relevancy and popularity scores calculation and solution method extraction in papers utilizing OpenAI API (GPT 3.5); (3: Analyzes) sensitivity analysis and post-analyzes which reveals trends, relevant papers and methods. Comparing the SARBOLD-LLM to manual ground truth using precision, recall, and F1-score metrics, the performance results of AI in the oncology case study are 0.68, 0.9, and 0.77, respectively. SARBOLD-LLM demonstrates successful outcomes across various domains, showcasing its robustness and effectiveness. The SARBOLD-LLM addresses engineers more than researchers, as it proposes methods and trends without adding pros and cons. It is a useful tool to select which methods to investigate first and comes as a complement to surveys. This can limit the global search and accumulation of knowledge for the end user. We present a deep learning-based framework to design and quantify point-of-care sensors. As a use-case, we demonstrated a low-cost and rapid paper-based vertical flow assay (VFA) for high sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP) testing, commonly used for assessing risk of cardio-vascular disease (CVD). A machine learning-based framework was developed to (1) determine an optimal configuration of immunoreaction spots and conditions, spatially-multiplexed on a sensing membrane, and (2) to accurately infer target analyte concentration. Using a custom-designed handheld VFA reader, a clinical study with 85 human samples showed a competitive coefficient-of-variation of 11.2% and linearity of R2 = 0.95 among blindly-tested VFAs in the hsCRP range (i.e., 0–10 mg/L). We also demonstrated a mitigation of the hook-effect due to the multiplexed immunoreactions on the sensing membrane. Evaluation of researchers' output is vital for hiring committees and funding bodies, and it is usually measured via their scientific productivity, citations, or a combined metric such as the h-index. Assessing young researchers is more critical because it takes a while to get citations and increment of h-index. Hence, predicting the h-index can help to discover the researchers' scientific impact. In addition, identifying the influential factors to predict the scientific impact is helpful for researchers and their organizations seeking solutions to improve it. This study investigates the effect of the author, paper/venue-specific features on the future h-index. For this purpose, we used a machine learning approach to predict the h-index and feature analysis techniques to advance the understanding of feature impact. Utilizing the bibliometric data in Scopus, we defined and extracted two main groups of features. The first relates to prior scientific impact, and we name it 'prior impact-based features' and includes the number of publications, received citations, and h-index. The second group is 'non-prior impact-based features' and contains the features related to author, co-authorship, paper, and venue characteristics. We explored their importance in predicting researchers' h-index in three career phases. Also, we examined the temporal dimension of predicting performance for different feature categories to find out which features are more reliable for long- and short-term prediction. We referred to the gender of the authors to examine the role of this author's characteristics in the prediction task. Our findings showed that gender has a very slight effect in predicting the h-index. Although the results demonstrate better performance for the models containing prior impact-based features for all researchers' groups in the near future, we found that non-prior impact-based features are more robust predictors for younger scholars in the long term. Phenotypic plasticity, the ability to produce multiple phenotypes from a single genotype, represents an excellent model with which to examine the relationship between gene expression and phenotypes. Analyses of the molecular foundations of phenotypic plasticity are challenging, however, especially in the case of complex social phenotypes. Here we apply a machine learning approach to tackle this challenge by analyzing individual-level gene expression profiles of Polistes dominula paper wasps following the loss of a queen. We find that caste-associated gene expression profiles respond strongly to queen loss, and that this change is partly explained by attributes such as age but occurs even in individuals that appear phenotypically unaffected. These results demonstrate that large changes in gene expression may occur in the absence of outwardly detectable phenotypic changes, resulting here in a socially mediated de-differentiation of individuals at the transcriptomic level but not at the levels of ovarian development or behavior. Connecting genotypes to complex social behaviour is challenging. Taylor et al. use machine learning to show a strong response of caste-associated gene expression to queen loss, wherein individual wasp's expression profiles become intermediate between queen and worker states, even in the absence of behavioural changes. The number of autism spectrum disorder individuals is dramatically increasing. For them, it is difficult to get an early diagnosis or to intervene for preventing challenging behaviors, which may be the cause of social isolation and economic loss for all their family. This SLR aims at understanding and summarizing the current research work on this topic and analyze the limitations and open challenges to address future work. We consider papers published between 2015 and the beginning of 2021. The initial selection included about 2140 papers. 11 of them respected our selection criteria. The papers have been analyzed by mainly considering: (1) the kind of action taken on the autistic individual, (2) the considered wearables, (3) the machine learning approaches, and (4) the evaluation strategies. Results revealed that the topic is very relevant, but there are many limitations in the considered studies, such as reduced number of participants, absence of datasets and experimentation in real contexts, need for considering privacy issues, and the adoption of appropriate validation approaches. The issues highlighted in this analysis may be useful for improving machine learning techniques and highlighting areas of interest in which experimenting with the use of different noninvasive sensors. Over the past decade, the world has experienced a remarkable shift in the automotive landscape, as electric vehicles (EVs) have appeared as a viable and increasingly popular alternative to the long-standing dominance of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and their ability to absorb the surplus of electricity generated from renewable sources. This paper presents a detailed examination of the different categories of EVs, charging methods and explores energy generation systems tailored for EVs. As vehicle complexity and road congestion increase with the growth of EVs, the need for intelligent transport systems to improve road safety and efficiency becomes imperative. Machine learning (ML), recognized as a powerful approach for adaptive and predictive system development, has gained importance in the vehicle domain. By employing a variety of algorithms, ML effectively addresses pressing issues related to electric vehicles, including battery management, range optimization, and energy consumption. As the number and cleverness of cyber-attacks keep increasing rapidly, it's more important than ever to have good ways to detect and prevent them. Recognizing cyber threats quickly and accurately is crucial because they can cause severe damage to individuals and businesses. This paper takes a close look at how we can use artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), alongside metaheuristic algorithms to detect cyber-attacks better. We've thoroughly examined over sixty recent studies to measure how effective these AI tools are at identifying and fighting a wide range of cyber threats. Our research includes a diverse array of cyberattacks such as malware attacks, network intrusions, spam, and others, showing that ML and DL methods, together with metaheuristic algorithms, significantly improve how well we can find and respond to cyber threats. We compare these AI methods to find out what they're good at and where they could improve, especially as we face new and changing cyber-attacks. This paper presents a straightforward framework for assessing AI Methods in cyber threat detection. Given the increasing complexity of cyber threats, enhancing AI methods and regularly ensuring strong protection is critical. We evaluate the effectiveness and the limitations of current ML and DL proposed models, in addition to the metaheuristic algorithms. Recognizing these limitations is vital for guiding future enhancements. We're pushing for smart and flexible solutions that can adapt to new challenges. To deal with the highly nonlinear and time-varying characteristics of Batch Process, a model named adaptive stacking approximate kernel based broad learning system is proposed in this paper. This model innovatively introduces the approximate kernel based broad learning system (AKBLS) algorithm and the Adaptive Stacking framework, giving it strong nonlinear fitting ability, excellent generalization ability, and adaptive ability. The Broad Learning System (BLS) is known for its shorter training time for effective nonlinear processing, but the uncertainty brought by its double random mapping results in poor resistance to noisy data and unpredictable impact on performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an AKBLS algorithm that reduces uncertainty, eliminates redundant features, and improves prediction accuracy by projecting feature nodes into the kernel space. It also significantly reduces the computation time of the kernel matrix by searching for approximate kernels to enhance its ability in industrial online applications. Extensive comparative experiments on various public datasets of different sizes validate this. The Adaptive Stacking framework utilizes the Stacking ensemble learning method, which integrates predictions from multiple AKBLS models using a meta-learner to improve generalization. Additionally, by employing the moving window method—where a fixed-length window slides through the database over time—the model gains adaptive ability, allowing it to better respond to gradual changes in industrial Batch Process. Experiments on a substantial dataset of penicillin simulations demonstrate that the proposed model significantly improves predictive accuracy compared to other common algorithms. In this paper, we propose a profiling and tracing method for dataflow applications with GPU acceleration. Dataflow models can be represented by graphs and are widely used in many domains like signal processing or machine learning. Within the graph, the data flows along the edges, and the nodes correspond to the computing units that process the data. To accelerate the execution, some co-processing units, like GPUs, are often used for computing intensive nodes. The work in this paper aims at providing useful information about the execution of the dataflow graph on the available hardware, in order to understand and possibly improve the performance. The collected traces include low-level information about the CPU, from the Linux Kernel (system calls), as well as mid-level and high-level information respectively about intermediate libraries like CUDA, HIP or HSA, and the dataflow model. This is followed by post-mortem analysis and visualization steps in order to enhance the trace and show useful information to the user. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the method, it was evaluated for TensorFlow, a well-known machine learning library that uses a dataflow computational graph to represent the algorithms. We present a few examples of machine learning applications that can be optimized with the help of the information provided by our proposed method. For example, we reduce the execution time of a face recognition application by a factor of 5X. We suggest a better placement of the computation nodes on the available hardware components for a distributed application. Image segmentation is a key problem in the field of machine vision. Its core goal is to separate the target and background in the region of interest from the image and directly affect the accuracy of subsequent operations such as target recognition and image understanding. In the past decades, there have been many good image segmentation algorithms. In recent years, the deep learning method represented by deep learning has made great progress in the field of image segmentation. In this paper, some commonly used image segmentation algorithms based on machine learning were reviewed, and their theoretical and experimental studies were carried out. In this paper, the application prospect of machine learning in image segmentation was prospected. The existing image segmentation methods are mainly divided into the following categories: threshold-based segmentation methods, region-based segmentation methods, edge-based segmentation methods, and segmentation methods based on specific theories. In recent years, with the rapid progress of computer vision technology, the requirements for the accuracy of object image edge information segmentation have become increasingly high. The main reason for image segmentation is to better obtain object information. However, due to interference conditions such as lighting and noise, image blurry edge information segmentation has become the most difficult point in the development of computer vision technology. In the comparative experiment of algorithms, the results showed that in the training set, the response time of Deep Neural Network (DNN) algorithm, Cluster Analysis (CA) algorithm, and Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm was 13.72 s, 16.88 s and 17.29 s when the number of samples was 150. In the test set, when the sample number was 50, the recognition rate of DNN algorithm was 93.7%; the recognition rate of CA algorithm was 87.9%; the recognition rate of SVM algorithm was 84.3%. Aiming at the problems of insufficient extraction of asynchronous motor fault features by traditional deep learning algorithms and poor diagnosis of asynchronous motor faults in robust noise environments, this paper proposes an end-to-end fault diagnosis method for asynchronous motors based on IInception-CBAM-IBiGRU. The method first uses a signal-to-grayscale image conversion method to convert one-dimensional vibration signals into two-dimensional images and initially extracts shallow features through two-dimensional convolution; then the Improved Inception (IInception) module is used as a residual block to learning features at different scales with a residual structure, and extracts its important feature information through the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM) to extract important feature information and adjust the weight parameters; then the feature information is input to the Improved Bi-directional Gate Recurrent Unit (IBiGRU) to extract its timing features further; finally, the fault identification is achieved by the SoftMax function. The primary hyperparameters in the model are optimized by the Weighted Mean Of Vectors Algorithm (INFO). The experimental results show that the method is effective in fault diagnosis of asynchronous motors, with an accuracy rate close to 100%, and can still maintain a high accuracy rate under the condition of low noise ratio, with good robustness and generalization ability. The paper examines whether the structure of the risk factor disclosure in an IPO prospectus helps explain the cross-section of first-day returns in a sample of Chinese initial public offerings. This paper analyzes the semantics and content of risk disclosure based on an unsupervised machine learning algorithm. From both long-term and short-term perspectives, this paper explores how the information effect and risk effect of risk disclosure play their respective roles. The results show that risk disclosure has a stronger risk effect at the semantic novelty level and a more substantial information effect at the risk content level. A novel aspect of the paper lies in the use of text analysis (semantic novelty and content richness) to characterize the structure of the risk factor disclosure. The study shows that initial IPO returns negatively correlate with semantic novelty and content richness. We show the interaction between risk effect and information effect on risk disclosure under the nature of the same stock plate. Schizophrenia (SZ) is a prevalent mental disorder characterized by cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes. Symptoms of SZ include hallucinations, illusions, delusions, lack of motivation, and difficulties in concentration. While the exact causes of SZ remain unproven, factors such as brain injuries, stress, and psychotropic drugs have been implicated in its development. SZ can be classified into different types, including paranoid, disorganized, catatonic, undifferentiated, and residual. Diagnosing SZ involves employing various tools, including clinical interviews, physical examinations, psychological evaluations, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), and neuroimaging techniques. Electroencephalography (EEG) recording is a significant functional neuroimaging modality that provides valuable insights into brain function during SZ. However, EEG signal analysis poses challenges for neurologists and scientists due to the presence of artifacts, long-term recordings, and the utilization of multiple channels. To address these challenges, researchers have introduced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, encompassing conventional machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) methods, to aid in SZ diagnosis. This study reviews papers focused on SZ diagnosis utilizing EEG signals and AI methods. The introduction section provides a comprehensive explanation of SZ diagnosis methods and intervention techniques. Subsequently, review papers in this field are discussed, followed by an introduction to the AI methods employed for SZ diagnosis and a summary of relevant papers presented in tabular form. Additionally, this study reports on the most significant challenges encountered in SZ diagnosis, as identified through a review of papers in this field. By the end of 2020, over 16,300 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from 950 universities worldwide had enrolled over 180 million students. Interest in MOOCs has been matched by significant research on the topic, including a considerable number of reviews. This study uses Machine Learning techniques and human expert supervision to generate a comprehensive systematic literature mapping review that overcomes some limitations of the traditional ones and provides a broader overview of the content and main topics studied in the specialized literature devoted to MOOCs. The sample consisted of 6320 publications automatically classified within six research topics, denominated by human experts: institutional approach, pedagogical approach, evaluation, analytics, participation, and educational resources. The content analysis of the topics identified was conducted using visual network analysis, which supported the identification of different thematic sub-clusters and endorsed the classification. Results from the review show that the lowest production of MOOC papers is within the topics of the pedagogical approach and educational resources. In contrast, participation and evaluation are the most frequent ones. In addition, the most cited papers are on the topics of analytics and resources, being the pedagogical approach and the institutional approach the less cited. This study proposes an innovative deep learning algorithm for pose estimation based on point clouds, aimed at addressing the challenges of pose estimation for objects affected by the environment. Previous research on using deep learning for pose estimation has primarily been conducted using RGB-D data. This paper introduces an algorithm that utilizes point cloud data for deep learning-based pose computation. The algorithm builds upon previous work by integrating PointNet + + technology and the classical Point Pair Features algorithm, achieving accurate pose estimation for objects across different scene scales. Additionally, an adaptive parameter-density clustering method suitable for point clouds is introduced, effectively segmenting clusters in varying point cloud density environments. This resolves the complex issue of parameter determination for density clustering in different point cloud environments and enhances the robustness of clustering. Furthermore, the LineMod dataset is transformed into a point cloud dataset, and experiments are conducted on the transformed dataset to achieve promising results with our algorithm. These days, Internet coverage and technologies are growing rapidly, hence, it makes the network more complex and heterogeneous. Software defined network (SDN) revolutionized the network architecture and simplified the network by separating the control and data plane. In industry, robots are widely used to solve repetitive or dangerous actions in product production, so that product production can be more efficient. However, the problem that robots are often challenged is the convenience and the efficiency of introducing the production line. Therefore, the intuitive robot guidance method is an important issue; this paper will introduce the concept of human–robot interactions (HRI) and use deep learning methods on the machine vision system to complete the robot-guided assembly operation analysis, and the assembly operation analysis requires semantic segmentation as pre-processing. Therefore, we propose a novel semantic template correlation model architecture based on zero-shot learning (ZSL) to achieve the effect of rapid deployment. The semantic template correlation model is to search for the object area offline learning through the semantic template generated by the physics engine, and when inferring online, we can directly enter the semantic template to obtain the relevant object region. One of the challenges in managing cloud computing clusters is assigning resources based on the customers’ needs. For this mechanism to work efficiently, it is imperative that there are sufficient resources reserved to maintain continuous operation, but not too much to avoid overhead costs. Additionally, to avoid the overhead of acquisition time, it is important to reserve resources sufficiently in advance. This paper presents a novel reliable general-purpose mechanism for prediction-based resource usage reservation. The proposed solution should be capable of operating for long periods of time without drift-related problems, and dynamically adapt to changes in system usage. To achieve this, a novel signature-based ensemble prediction method is presented, which utilizes multiple distinct prediction algorithms suited for various use-cases, as well as an anomaly detection mechanism used to improve prediction accuracy. This ensures that the mechanism can operate efficiently in different real-life scenarios. Thanks to a novel signature-based selection algorithm, it is possible to use the best available prediction algorithm for each use-case, even over long periods of time, which would typically lead to drifts. The proposed approach has been evaluated using real-life historical data from various production servers, which include traces from more than 1,500 machines collected over more than a year. Experimental results have demonstrated an increase in prediction accuracy of up to 21.4 percent over the neural network approach. The evaluation of the proposed approach highlights the importance of choosing the appropriate prediction method, especially in diverse scenarios where the load changes frequently. This paper examines the paradoxical transparency involved in training machine-learning models. Existing literature typically critiques the opacity of machine-learning models such as neural networks or collaborative filtering, a type of critique that parallels the black-box critique in technology studies. Accordingly, people in power may leverage the models' opacity to justify a biased result without subjecting the technical operations to public scrutiny, in what Dan McQuillan metaphorically depicts as an "algorithmic state of exception". This paper attempts to differentiate the black-box abstraction that wraps around complex computational systems from the opacity of machine-learning models. It contends that the degree of asymmetry in knowledge is greater in the former than the latter. In the case of software systems, software codes are difficult to understand as only software experts with sufficient domain knowledge are equipped to formulate a sound critique. In contrast, the meanings of trained parameters in a machine-learning model are obscure even to the data scientists who configure and train the model. Hence, the asymmetry of knowledge lies only in how data examples are collected, the choice and configuration of machine-learning models, and the specification of features in model design. Under the trend of algorithmic decision-making proliferating with machine-learning heuristics, the paper contends that the more symmetric distribution of knowledge in machine learning could lead to a more transparent production process if proper policies are in place. This paper analyses and compares some of the automated reasoners that have been used in recent research for compliance checking. Although the list of the considered reasoners is not exhaustive, we believe that our analysis is representative enough to take stock of the current state of the art in the topic. We are interested here in formalizations at the first-order level. Past literature on normative reasoning mostly focuses on the propositional level. However, the propositional level is of little usefulness for concrete LegalTech applications, in which compliance checking must be enforced on (large) sets of individuals. Furthermore, we are interested in technologies that are freely available and that can be further investigated and compared by the scientific community. In other words, this paper does not consider technologies only employed in industry and/or whose source code is non-accessible. This paper formalizes a selected use case in the considered reasoners and compares the implementations, also in terms of simulations with respect to shared synthetic datasets. The comparison will highlight that lot of further research still needs to be done to integrate the benefits featured by the different reasoners into a single standardized first-order framework, suitable for LegalTech applications. Intelligent transport systems (ITS) provide various cooperative edge cloud services for roadside vehicular applications. These applications offer additional diversity, including ticket validation across transport modes and vehicle and object detection to prevent road collisions. Offloading among cooperative edge and cloud networks plays a key role when these resources constrain devices (e.g., vehicles and mobile) to offload their workloads for execution. ITS used different machine learning and deep learning methods for decision automation. However, the self-autonomous decision-making processes of these techniques require significantly more time and higher accuracy for the aforementioned applications on the road-unit side. Thus, this paper presents the new offloading ITS for IoT vehicles in cooperative edge cloud networks. We present the augmented convolutional neural network (ACNN) that trains the workloads on different edge nodes. The ACNN allows users and machine learning methods to work together, making decisions for offloading and scheduling workload execution. This paper presents an augmented federated learning scheduling scheme (AFLSS). An algorithmic method called AFLSS comprises different sub-schemes that work together in the ITS paradigm for IoT applications in transportation. These sub-schemes include ACNN, offloading, scheduling, and security. It is nowadays widely understood that undeclared work cannot be efficiently combated without a holistic view on the mechanisms underlying its existence. However, the question remains whether we possess all the pieces of the holistic puzzle. To fill the gap, in this paper, we test if the features so far known to affect the behaviour of taxpayers are sufficient to detect noncompliance with outstanding precision. This is done by training seven supervised machine learning models on the compilation of data from the 2019 Special Eurobarometer on undeclared work and relevant figures from other sources. The conducted analysis not only does attest to the completeness of our knowledge concerning the drivers of undeclared work but also paves the way for wide usage of artificial intelligence in monitoring and confronting this detrimental practice. The study, however, exposes the necessity of having at disposal considerably larger datasets compared to those currently available if successful real-world applications of machine learning are to be achieved in this field. Alongside the apparent theoretical contribution, this paper is thus also expected to be of particular importance for policymakers, whose efforts to tackle tax evasion will have to be expedited in the period after the COVID-19 pandemic. Machine learning (ML) is increasingly used to enhance production systems and meet the requirements of a rapidly evolving manufacturing environment. Compared to larger companies, however, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) lack in terms of resources, available data and skills, which impedes the potential adoption of analytics solutions. This paper proposes a preliminary yet general approach to identify low-cost analytics solutions for manufacturing SMEs, with particular emphasis on ML. The initial studies seem to suggest that, contrarily to what is usually thought at first glance, SMEs seldom need digital solutions that use advanced ML algorithms which require extensive data preparation, laborious parameter tuning and a comprehensive understanding of the underlying problem.
