Pain in the knee is a clinical condition due to several aetiopathogenetic mechanisms, primarily trauma and degenerative joint disease. Physical injury to bone and soft tissue represents the most common indication for radiological examination of the musculoskeletal system. However, radiography is not most important in the evaluation of trauma and should be never considered a substitute for the history and physical examination: serious injuries commonly exist in the absence of radiographic findings.
