Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) is a virtual platform for expanding healthcare communities’ knowledge and creating communication between primary care physicians (PCP) with various specialties. Dermatology is one of the many specialties that has adopted ECHO. Information was gathered through a thorough literature review in addition to interviews with experts in Dermatology ECHO. This chapter will discuss ECHO’s basics, how it began, applications in dermatology, and benefits and limitations. This chapter also includes a discussion highlighting ECHO’s best practices that maximize the practical aspects as well as ECHO’s future.

Ergonomics training is an essential element for maintaining occupational health and safety. With the world rapidly digitizing, it is important to adopt new methods to accommodate computer-supported learning while keeping the same level of efficiency and collaboration as in-person training sessions. Emerging collaborative technologies can be a potential means to conduct training over a virtual platform. In this systematic literature review, publications for ergonomics training and collaborative technologies were analyzed using tools such as Harzing’s Publish or Perish, VOS Viewer, MAXQDA, Mendeley, CiteSpace and BibExcel. Through content and co-citation analyses, emerging trends were identified. Various databases such as Google Scholar, Web of Science, SpringerLink, and ResearchGate served as the primary sources for references. From this study, it was assessed that there was significant research on the topic of interest, however, there is immense potential for growth particularly in the context of collaborative robots and virtual reality. Performing a literature review will help bring awareness to the importance of being able to conduct ergonomics training through a virtual collaborative technology.

In order to improve the practical application effect of the virtual platform app interface for landscape design, the app interface of the virtual platform for landscape design was designed combined with iPad running environment. The processing structure module of landscape design virtual platform is improved, and the 3D virtual simulation framework of environmental landscape is optimized. Combined with the principle of neural network, the 3D landscape virtual algorithm is optimized. Finally, the effective design of APP interface of landscape design virtual platform is realized. Finally, through the experimental verification, compared with the traditional interface design effect, the design results of APP interface of landscape design virtual platform based on IAD running environment have higher accuracy and effectiveness, and fully meet the research requirements.

The domain of cyber security has gained an increased importance in the industry that is naturally reflected in the universities curricula that have included security courses and dedicated programs in their offer. The scope of this paper is to describe the requirements of a cybersecurity virtual platform, the basic mandatory tools to be included and the methods for building a flexible and extensible cyber security laboratory, taking benefit of industry support, academic programs and open source implementations.

With developments related to the Internet and digital technology, consumers have shifted from passively receiving products to actively playing a role in new product development. This aim of this study was to elucidate how a technology-based startup cocreates value with customers to develop an Internet of things–based product and service. A single case study was conducted to identify a startup’s cocreation motivations, cocreation forms, and engagement platforms throughout the entire new product development (NPD) process. Open-ended interviews with a set of cue cards were used for the research inquiry. The results show that customer cocreation occurs in all the stages of the NPD process, and the role of customers varied from ideation to the postlaunch stage. Customer cocreation assists startups in refining their offerings, generating content on a virtual platform, and establishing an active user community. We suggest that entrepreneurs consider customer cocreation as an open innovation method and search for viable cocreation opportunities to grow their business.

Modeling Cyber-Physical Systems requires aggregating semantics and languages tailored to different specific domains, while simulating these systems requires integrating different tools and technologies. Academy and Industry are working to define standard interfaces allowing to facilitate such integration. The Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) standard is one of the most promising tools produced by this effort. It allows to easily export and integrate heterogeneous models. However, the standard still shows some weaknesses. In particular, it still does not provide a proper support for describing discrete-event systems.

Multiple closing wedge osteotomies of the straight fibula bone are necessary to recreate the three-dimensional shape of the mandible or maxilla. These osteotomies have traditionally been accomplished using templates based upon a preoperative CT scan and lateral cephalogram of the patient. Alternatively, using a virtual platform, computer-assisted design and modeling in combination with additive printing have also been utilized. Each technique has pros and cons, so it is important for reconstructive surgeons to be familiar with both methods. The current chapter describes how to perform osteotomies using either technique.

This paper deals with the issue of computer literacy development in elderly people in the local intergeneration project. The project is at the crossroads: continue conducting courses in the traditional way or updating the content of courses and learning environment to reflect the changes in technologies and society. Researchers have been involved into the project for the second year and are currently participating in the preparatory phase of suggesting solutions. The aim of the paper is to describe learning environment of current courses, define its weaknesses and justify its unavoidable update. Potential ways to the solution on virtual platform will be proposed for further consideration and implementation at the meeting of directors of involved primary schools with the municipality authority of the city of Hradec Kralove. Data stem from the primary and secondary sources. Results are important for authors of the updated courses, as they are considering shift from computer-based learning environment to web-based environment with the study materials online. Schools that organize courses for seniors do not use LMS or any other tools for sharing of materials; they use printed materials. The paper brings a set of potential solutions on updating organization of courses like Clasroom in G+ , or on-line communities.

Online translator training can provide students the professional advantage of learning within the same environment they will eventually work. Yet this can only be accomplished if instructors narrow the potentially unwieldy possibilities of online course delivery to align closely with the content and contexts of professional language services. This chapter will outline how to prepare for and implement an online translation course and is especially directed to those who may be new to online learning or to formal translator training. Informed by the practice of backward course design, this chapter will start with methods for conducting a needs analysis, outline effective uses of the virtual platform, and close with a number of suggested technology-based translation activities.

In December 2016 it was presented by the Joint Laboratory LS3D of Dicar - Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture, University of Pavia, the project “Productivity and Urban Renewal Programme in East Jerusalem (PURE)” promoted by United Nations. The project, developed in a year of activities and research carried out by the laboratory of Pavia in collaboration with University of Florence, has produced a three-dimensional database for the protection of historical heritage and a project for the architectural renovation of the complex system of buildings on the streets of Salah Eddin and Sultan Suleiman, adjacent to the walls of the historic city of Jerusalem. The project, funded by the European Union and by the Islamic Development Bank has covered, in addition to the measurement of a portion of the city and the monumental cemetery of Bab Azhar, a census of all the infrastructures, commercial activities and an analysis on the structural condition of buildings. The result is a virtual platform from which to assess the development of the historic city and through which give life to the city of the future.

This chapter discusses, in detail, the verification of a complex SoC, namely, a voice over IP Network SoC. We will go through a comprehensive verification plan and describe each verification step with VoIP SoC-based real-life detail.

Using the productive abilities and capacities of citizens, the state has the opportunity to reinvigorate and upgrade its services. However, integrating citizens as free producers in the value creation chain requires new interfaces and specific institutional arrangements that both encourage self-organisation of citizens and provide some direction for their actions. The state could establish virtual platforms, tools and structures to collect and direct this surplus of ideas and capabilities. Although hopes for an augmented digital political participation still seem unjustified, there are indications that the integration of citizens in the delivery of services will lead to an increase in political participation, as new social relationships emerge that also have a political claim.

The on-line reproduction of the movements per-formed by a patient in virtual environments has been proposed for several applications, including the evaluation of new prosthetic control strategies, the training of prosthetic users and for new rehabilitation programs. Since the availability of the hardware and software technology necessary to implement various types of virtual environments, our laboratory has been interested in the development of a simulation environment which could be used as part of the rehabilitation treatment of lower limb amputees. Therefore, in this paper, a scaled prototype solution aimed at reproducing the movement of the lower limb during walking in a simulated environment was developed. A robotic simulation software was used and two forms of simulated limb control were tested: one used data from a hardware interface, collecting data from external inputs (sensors) and the other used electrophysiological signals. The soft-ware used was the free version of V REP and the hardware selected was the Arduino Mega. The implemented system complied with the requirements previously established and probed to be sufficiently versatile for the proposed application.

In this study, a virtual environment of fire condition was designed and implemented to support the research of the human behavior under anxiety states. The results gathered from this experimental platform were compared to the data from real fire condition to verification the effectiveness of the information provided from this virtual platform. The Correlation coefficient is 0.9958, which indicate that the simulation system is highly practical in research of human behavior under pressure condition. Conclusion could be made that virtual environment based on cave virtual display system is suitable for simulation of fire condition.

To prevent, detect and treat trauma brain injuries (TBI) one must understand them and know how they occur. With the integration of biomechanical and clinical theories, as well as research cases, a new era of cooperation must be initiated. For that reason, our proposal of developing a virtual platform based on the BioCAD protocol through computed tomography (CT) software, computer aided design (CAD) software and finite element method (FEM) analysis software, represents a joined effort in that direction. Results obtained with the resultant model were in line with maxillary expansion results from the literature, thus validating it. This model must be adaptable to the user and/or patient, leading to an innovative tool for research, prevention and treatment of TBI.

This chapter presents a virtual platform that is able to provide performance estimation of hardware/software systems, including communication networks (networked embedded systems). The framework is mainly focused on performance analysis of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) before deployment. The platform can also simulate the most common attacks that a WSN can suffer. This combination of unique features makes the virtual platform a key tool for simulating security in low power WSN at the first stages of the design process.

Many tools have been used to measure and disseminate sustainable actions in universities, as shown by the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF 2008). In 2011, the University of Sao Paulo developed a virtual platform called Information, Awareness and Assessment of Sustainability in Higher Education Institutions to promote the participation of the university community (students, lecturers and administrative staff) in the assessment of sustainability in the university. The initiative later attracted the attention of other Brazilian universities. This work presents the results of the “sustainability test” applied to a group of students of the Federal University of Sao Carlos. In their opinion, the university should invest more in environmental education and improve management systems related to waste reuse/recycling and clean technologies. The views concerning these and other environmental issues have contributed to improve the actions of university managers and teachers towards a sustainable future.

This book presents methodologies and algorithms that aim at obtaining efficient application execution on a target MPSoC. Note that the efficiency of a parallel execution is not only determined by the application itself and the quality of the programming flow, but also by the efficiency of the MPSoC’s runtime system.

The aim of this paper is the presentation of a scheduling method, its implementation to a software system, and its application to a commercial refrigerator factory. The method employs the modeling of the factory’s resources and the assignment of the workload of the resources in a hierarchical fashion. The developed software system simulates the operations of the factory and provides a schedule for the manufacturing system’s resources. The system is integrated with a holistic virtual platform, namely Virtual Factory Framework that allows it to exchange data related to product, process, resources, and key performance indicators along with other software components also integrated with the Virtual Factory Framework. A set of digital scheduling experiments with data, coming from a real manufacturing system are conducted in order to validate the proposed method and the implemented system under different operational conditions.
