Abstract

Composting is a good recycling operation for organic waste because it reduces the volume of waste in landfills up to 41% compared to other biotechnological solutions. In the present study, the Simplex-centroid design mixture is used to optimize the mixing ratios of the substrate involved in the composting process, such as green waste (GW), oil mill wastewater (OMW), waste solid oil mills (OMSW) and poultry litter (PL). The main goal of this optimization is to define the final parameters of the compost from the initial proportion of the different ingredients using a mathematical forecasting model for an efficient composting process in terms of cost, quality and timing. The performance of the response models; the organic matter content and the carbon / nitrogen ratio as a function of the raw material flow rate were measured using the deviation standard, the predicted R squared, the predicted sum of squares (PRESS) and the correlation coefficient (R2). Indeed, they were respectively 2.26, 42.71, 1441.71, 98.58 for the C/N and 8.45, 8.27, 6065.35, 87.02 for the organic matter content. The best mixture satisfying the response constraints was 7.07% GW, 36.67% OMSW, 21.22% OMW and 35.03% PL.
