Automatically monitoring see turtles over extensive coastlines is an important task for environmental research and conservation nowadays. Unfortunately, some of the sea turtle species have become endangered today and this is why there is a need for search-and-rescue. Computer vision algorithms can be used for sea turtle detection and monitoring. Recently, due to the powerful Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), computer vision crucial applications came to reality. Although such algorithms are computationally expensive, they have proved promising results where real-time applications can be feasibly implemented given high-capability GPUs. In this paper, we present a system of sea turtles detection using a Faster R-CNN algorithm. This system performs the sea turtles’ detection on a cloud (off-board). Our detection algorithm can be performed using a static camera, or a moving camera that is mounted on UAVs for surveillance, search-and-rescue purposes.

Lichen is a rather common chronic inflammatory, immune-mediated disease which affects the skin and the mucous membranes; it occurs in Caucasian and in pigmented skin populations without ethnic predilection. The clinical manifestations represent a non-specific mucocutaneous reactive pattern, precipitating after diverse irritating factors and environmental conditions. It seems that individuals with heavily pigmented or black skin are predisposed to develop a lichenoid response after chronic irritation.

Although most dermatoses inducing changes of the content and distribution of melanin discoloring the skin are not life-threatening, they have a tremendous psychological and socioeconomic impact among people with skin of color, particularly in African populations with darkly pigmented or black skin. There is a plethora of genetic and/or acquired diseases associated with various types of leukoderma; postinflammatory hypo- and hyperpigmentations are most common in African populations as secondary response after various dermatoses, burns, injuries, surgical interventions, injections, and action of chemicals [1]. They are all disfiguring and cause major psychological discomfort to the patients, with vitiligo being the most prevalent cause of deep concern [2].

Erythema multiforme (EM) is an acute, self-limited, occasionally recurring skin disease considered to be a type IV hypersensitivity reaction to certain infections, medications, and other triggering factors. The skin disease may present within a wide spectrum of severity: EM minor is characterized by pathognomonic target- or iris-like cutaneous lesions with minimal or no mucosal involvement, whereas EM major shows extensive involvement of the mucosal membranes and frequently systemic symptoms. The timely affection of skin and mucous membranes in EM has created confusion with other severe dermatoses, such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). In recent years, evidence has been provided that EM major and SJS/TEN are separate entities clinically manifested with similar cutaneous and mucosal involvement differing not only in severity but also in several demographic characteristics and causes [1, 2].
