The paper concerns information and control systems that are employed by mining industries. These systems function in specific and often extreme conditions. As such, the design and manufacture of these systems is not only the matter of information technologies but a lot of concurrent problems must be solved like ensuring deliveries of fire and blast resistant components, inspection and auditing provisions, certification, authority licensing, etc. Nevertheless, the technologies are being constantly developed, implying new possibilities for system applications. One of the new information system trends, on which our Institute has also focused its attention, is represented by the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT key idea is an on-line Internet cross connection of information systems, computers, technical equipment, etc., in an unified system. An important constituent of the concept is also the unequivocal identification of individual objects (especially the ever moving forward technology of the RFID). The design of systems of such level of integration inevitably needs an integrated databases provision and solving the problems of converting data that have been collected at various places and yielded by different equipment sensors. The IoT concept provides for substantially wider integration possibilities concerning key information needed for control, as well as availability of such information for further application. An important part of the overall system design is the presentation layer, which asks for processing of clearly presented, synoptically easy to take information flows. As such, providing for a sophisticated visualization of information is a prerequisite for the system functional success.
