Mineral wool is considered the best known insulation type among the wide variety of insulation materials. There are three types of mineral wool, and these consist of glass, stone (rock), and slag wool. The overall manufacturing processes, along with features such as specifications and characteristics for each of these types, as well as the role of the binder within the process are described.

Consideration and solution of environmental and workplace-related problems in production and processing of phenolic resins (Fig. 8.1) have been emphasized in continued development of phenolic resins for many years [1]. The diagram in Fig. 8.1 helps to illustrate the topics that are addressed under the above heading.

There are potential risks associated with handling or use of chemical starting materials that are transformed into resinous products and ultimately cured products. The burgeoning use of enormous amounts of natural and chemical raw materials for energy, transportation, agriculture, and industry has had a debilitating effect on air/water quality, the environment, and even inhabitants. Most highly developed nations require vast amounts of energy due to technological advancements. These factors were instrumental in many countries adopting necessary legislation to improve the health, well-being of the citizens as well as the environment.
