Abstract

Perceptual grouping refers to principles by means of which a set of discrete elements are partitioned into groups by the visual system, thus forming higher-order perceptual units. Perceptual grouping was first studied by Max Wertheimer, one of the fathers of Gestalt psychology [1]. It is a core topic within the studies of perceptual organization, along with figure-ground segmentation [2]. As regards to color, one can consider either the role of color in perceptual grouping or the effects of perceptual grouping on the perception of color. In the first case the focus is on how color can aid and affect the perceptual organization of the visual scene. In the second case the focus is on how the color appearance of a given surface is affected by the color of other surfaces with which it is perceptually grouped.

Abstract

The Mt. Canin massif, from a hydrogeological and geomorphological point of view, is a unique structure, being an independent part of the Italian Julian Alps (north east Italy) bounded on all sides by impressive karst springs. Extensive outcropping limestones go from the top (2587 m a.s.l.) to the bottom of the valleys (about 500 m a.s.l.) creating an hydrostructure subdivided between two countries originating two transboundary watersheds: the Mediterranean one to the South and the Black Sea to the North. The aim of this paper is to define the dynamic and the characteristics of the groundwaters and to identify the superficial and deep watersheds in order to elaborate the aquifer vulnerability.

Abstract

Many observations suggest that HII regions could play an important role in spreading star formation throughout the Galaxy. As reviewed in [6], most of the embedded young stellar clusters in the solar neighbourhood are adjacent to HII regions excited by more evolved stars: Orion, Perseus OB2, the Rosette nebula, W3-5, M17, to name but a few. [13] estimate that 10%-30% of stars in mass in the Galaxy are formed under the influence of adjacent HII regions.
