Abstract Blue economy has the potential to promote economic growth, improve livelihoods, and create jobs while protecting marine ecosystems. This research uses a comprehensive analysis of secondary data sources to assess various blue economy sectors, including maritime transport, fisheries, aquaculture, offshore renewable energy, marine tourism, marine biotechnology, and ocean mining. By examining the blue economy experiences of developed nations like the United States, Canada, Japan, Norway, and Australia, the study identifies the best SDG practices and strategic lessons applicable to Bangladesh. In the case of Bangladesh, the research focuses on the blue economy initiatives, opportunities, and challenges associated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The blue economy and SDGs nexus in the context of Bangladesh demonstrates that out of 17 goals, 12 SDGs (SDG 1, SDG 2, SDG 3, SDG 7, SDG 8, SDG 9, SDG 11, SDG 12, SDG 13, SDG 14, SDG 16 and SDG 17) are linked with blue economy practices in Bangladesh. However, in the case of developed countries, only six SDGs (SDG 7, SDG 8, SDG 9, SDG 12, SDG 13, SDG 14) are connected to the blue economy because of the diversity of blue economy practices across the countries. Situated along the Bay of Bengal, Bangladesh has significant potential to utilize its marine resources for sustainable development. However, it faces challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, regulatory gaps, environmental risks, and limited technological advancements. The study thus emphasizes the need for integrated policy frameworks, stakeholder coordination, investments in sustainable infrastructure, public–private partnerships, technological innovation, and community engagement.

Background: Advances in treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies including cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS±HIPEC) have led to long-term survivorship, yet the subsequent quality of life (QOL) and values of these patients are unknown., Patients and Methods: Survivors were offered surveys via online support groups. Novel items assessed how patients prioritized experience, costs, longevity, and wellbeing., Results: Of the 453 gastrointestinal/hepatobiliary (GI/HPB) surgical patients that responded, 74 underwent CRS±HIPEC and were 54±12 years old, 87% female, and 93% white. Respondents averaged 29 months from diagnosis, with a maximum survival of 20 years. With a moderate level of agreement (W = 39%), rankings of value metrics among respondents were predictable (p < 0.001). Longevity and functional independence were ranked highest; treatment experience and cost of treatment were ranked lowest (p < 0.001). Those who underwent CRS±HIPEC or other GI/HPB surgeries reported the same rank order. QOL in CRS±HIPEC survivors, both mental (M-QOL) (44±13) and physical (P-QOL) (41±11) were lower than in the general population (50±10); p < 0.001. Impairments persisted throughout survivorship, but M-QOL improved over time (p < 0.05). When comparing CRS±HIPEC with other GI/HPB cancer surgery survivors, M-QOL (43±13 versus 43±14, p = 0.85) and P-QOL (40±11 versus 42±12, p = 0.41) were similar., Conclusions: Although CRS±HIPEC survivors experience long-term mental and physical health impairments, they were similar to those experienced by survivors of other GI/HPB cancer surgeries, and their QOL improved significantly throughout survivorship. As CRS±HIPEC survivors prioritize longevity above all other metrics, survival benefit may outweigh a temporary reduction in QOL., (© 2023. Society of Surgical Oncology.)

Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLnPs) are usually utilized as lipid-based formulations for enhancing oral bioavailability of BCS class IV drugs. Accordingly, the objective of this work was to investigate the effect of formulation and processing variables on the properties of the developed SLnPs for oral delivery of apixaban. Randomized full factorial design (2 4 ) was employed for optimization of SLnPs. With two levels for each independent variable, four factors comprising both formulations and processing factors were chosen: the GMS content (A), the Tween 80 content (B), the homogenization time (C), and the content of poloxamer 188 used (D). The modified hot homogenization and sonication method was employed in the formulation of solid lipid nanoparticles loaded with apixaban (APX-SLnPs). The size of APX-SLnPs formulations was measured to lie between 116.7 and 1866 nm, polydispersity index ranged from 0.385 to 1, and zeta potential was discovered to be in the range of - 12.6 to - 38.6 mV. The entrapping efficiency of APX-SLnPs formulations was found to be in the range of 22.8 to 96.7%. The optimized formulation was evaluated in vivo after oral administration to rats. Oral administration of APX-SLnPs resulted in significant prolongation in bleeding time compared with both positive and negative control. This indicates the ability of this system to enhance drug therapeutic effect either by increasing intestinal absorption or trans-lymphatic transport. The current study investigated the effects of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZONPs) and oxytetracycline (OTC) supplementation on broilers' behavior, performance, carcass quality, biochemical parameters, and intestinal microbial populations and birds' response to Newcastle disease (ND) vaccine. A total of 336 seven-day-old IR broiler chicks were randomly allotted to six dietary treatments containing 0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 ppm ZONPs or 50 ppm OTC. Each diet was fed to 7 replicates (8 birds/pen). The results clarified that 10 ppm ZONPs significantly improved the body weight gain and feed conversion in comparison to the control. No changes in behavior were recorded. The 10 ppm and 30 ppm ZONPs and OTC significantly reduced the gizzard weight in comparison to the control. While, 10 ppm ZONPs significantly increased the spleen weight, and all ZONPs doses increased bursa weight in comparison to the control and OTC groups. 20 ppm ZONPs increased the eviscerated yield and edible yield in comparison to the control and OTC groups. 40 ppm ZONPs increased pH, reduced meat color and overall acceptability in comparison to the control. In addition, results revealed that the 20 ppm ZONPs increased Calcium (Ca), High density low cholesterol (HDL-C), reduced urea (UA) and triglyceride (TG). Also, 40 ppm ZONPs and OTC increased creatinine (Cr) and reduced ND-HI titer in comparison to the control. For microbial population, OTC group was significantly lower than ZONPs groups in the total anaerobic, aerobic and lactobacilli count. In conclusion, the dietary inclusion of ZONPs can be applied as antibiotic growth promoter substitutions in broilers' diet. However, further investigations are still needed.

To identify neuroinflammatory biomarkers in patients with various severity of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) increases the insight about the pathogenesis and pathophysiology of this neurodevelopmental disorder. The aim of the present study was to analyze the levels in plasma of TGFβ2, Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70), and hematopoietic prostaglandin D2 synthase (H-PGDS) in Saudi ASD children and healthy age-matched neurotypical controls. Also, it was in the present study examined the correlation among these neuroinflammatory biomarkers and the sensory deficit exhibited by the ASD children. Blood samples from 38 Saudi children with ASD and 32 age-matched neurotypical controls were withdrawn after an overnight fast. For the blood taking 3 mL EDTA containing blood collection tubes was used. The samples were centrifuged for 20 min (4 °C; 3000×g) directly after the blood sampling. The harvested plasma was used for in vitro quantification of TGF-β2, HSP70, and H-PGDS by using the sandwich enzyme immunoassay. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and predictiveness curves showed that each of TGF-β2, HSP70 or H-PGDS alone could not be used as a predictive neuroinflammatory biomarker for ASD. However, when TGF-β2 and HSP70 were combined in one ROC curve, the AUC was increased to an appreciable value that makes them together robust predictors of variation between the ASD and neurotypical control groups. Overall, it was in the present study found significant differences for TGF-β2 and HSP70 when the ASD and neurotypical control groups were compared, independently of the sensory deficit level. In conclusion, the present study highlights the usefulness of TGF-β2, HSP70, and H-PGDS as diagnostic tools to differentiate between ASD and neurotypical control children, but not among subgroups of ASD children exhibiting different severity levels of sensory dysfunction. The presented data also suggest the effectiveness of ROC as a powerful statistical tool, which precisely can measure a combined effect of neuroinflammatory biomarkers intended for diagnostic purposes.

Insulin plays an important role in the wound healing process, but its method of delivery to the wound bed and subsequent effect on rate of healing is less well investigated. In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic effectiveness of topical human insulin delivery using a nanoparticulate delivery system suspended in a structured hydrogel vehicle. Poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) nanoparticles (NP) of 202.6 nm diameter and loaded with 33.86 μg insulin per milligram of polymer were formulated using a modified double-emulsion solvent evaporation technique and dispersed in a dilatant hydrogel (poly(vinyl alcohol)-borate). Importantly, this hydrogel formulation was used to achieve ultimate contact with the wound bed. A comparison of wound healing rates following local administration of insulin in the free and nanoencapsulated forms was performed in diabetic and healthy rats. In non-diabetic rats, there was no significant difference between healing observed in control and wounds treated with free insulin (p > 0.05), whereas treatment with insulin encapsulated within PLGA NP showed a significant difference (p < 0.001). In diabetic cohorts, both free insulin and nanoencapsulated insulin induced significant improvement in wound healing when compared to controls, with better percentage wound injury indices observed with the colloidal formulation. At day 10 of the experiment, the difference between percentage wound injury indices of insulin-PLGA NP and free insulin comparing to their controls were 29.15 and 12.16%, respectively. These results support strongly the potential of insulin-loaded colloidal carriers for improved wound healing when delivered using dilatant hydrogel formulations.

The study was conducted in Saudi Arabia to assess the nutritional status of primary school Sudanese pupils and explore its' correlates. Anthropometric measurements of 400 (200 males and 200 females) students of age 6-12 were taken. Their daily food intake was assessed using food frequency and 24 h recall method. Data about the socio-economic characteristics of the students' families was collected through personal interview using a questionnaire. The study revealed that 31 and 8.75 % of the respondents suffer from underweight and overweight, respectively. The respondents' average daily intake of calories and fiber was significantly lower than that of the DRI, while their intake of protein, carbohydrates, unsaturated fat, some vitamins and iron was significantly higher than that of the DRI (unbalanced meals). Apart from the family monthly income none of the hypothesized predictors of the respondents' nutritional status were found to be significantly correlated with the students' nutritional status indicators.
