Nanotechnology, based on the utilization of nanoparticles, has revolutionized drug delivery techniques, offering groundbreaking methods for managing and diagnosing intricate ailments over the past four decades. This article aims to underscore how the use of these particles has been used to treat previously incurable diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's disease. Recently, the integration of diagnostic imaging and targeted therapy using theranostic nanoparticles has improved cancer treatment precision. Moreover, exosome-based drug delivery has demonstrated high in vivo biocompatibility and antigen-carrying ability during vaccine development. The unique properties of these tiny particles enable their transport to specific locations inaccessible to large drug molecules. The development of these nanodrugs by either encapsulation or adsorption of drugs on particles has allowed the loading of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic drugs. Innovative engineering approaches have enabled the engineering of shear-sensitive nanoparticles for site-targeted drug release, which eliminates the requirement for frequent doses, which is common in conventional drug delivery. Factors such as size, shape as well as surface modification are considered during the top-down and bottom-up approaches for engineering nanoparticle-based systems. However, issues related to scaling up manufacturing, long-term safety, and regulatory approval for these techniques must be resolved. The use of these drug delivery systems offers many therapeutic advantages. This article examines the application of these systems across various medical domains including cancer treatment, infectious diseases, cardiovascular disorders, central nervous system ailments, and ophthalmic conditions. Purpose: Dynamic eye-tracking paradigms are an engaging and increasingly used method to study social attention in autism. While prior research has focused primarily on younger populations, there is a need for developmentally appropriate tasks for older children., Methods: This study introduces a novel eye-tracking task designed to assess school-aged children's attention to speakers involved in conversation. We focused on a primary outcome of attention to speakers' faces during conversation between three actors and during emulated bids for dyadic engagement (dyadic bids)., Results: In a sample of 161 children (78 autistic, 83 neurotypical), children displayed significantly lower overall attention to faces compared to their neurotypical peers (p <.0001). Contrary to expectations, both groups demonstrated preserved attentional responses to dyadic bids, with no significant group differences. However, a divergence was observed following the dyadic bid: neurotypical children showed more attention to other conversational agents' faces than autistic children (p =.017). Exploratory analyses in the autism group showed that reduced attention to faces was associated with greater autism features during most experimental conditions., Conclusion: These findings highlight key differences in how autistic and neurotypical children engage with social cues, particularly in dynamic and interactive contexts. Leather industry is traditionally characterized by the use of large amounts of chemical agents, some of which are toxic to human health and the environment. However, during the last years, many efforts have been made with the aim of successfully implement enzymes as agents for different leather production stages. The lipopeptides produced by the Bacillus spp. genus have excellent surfactants and antibacterial properties and may collaborate in the soaking stage of leather processing as well as in leather preservation. Moreover, Bacillus sp. proteases and lipopeptides can be co-produced in one culture medium, saving the production costs. In the present work, a screening of enzymatic activities was performed on 11 strains of the Bacillus sp. genus that have been isolated from samples of an artisan tannery from Salta, Argentina. In particular, the ability of B. amyloliquefaciens B65 to degrade α-type (nails, hair, wool) and β-type (feathers) keratin was demonstrated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The co-production of proteases, keratinases, glycosidases, and lipopeptides of this strain was conducted at 37 °C in mineral media supplemented with chicken feathers. In these nutrient-deficient media, the strain secreted amylases, pectinases, proteases, keratinases, and collagenases. A MALDI-TOF study also revealed that the strains secreted homologues of kurstakins, iturins, surfactins, and fengycines lipopeptides families. Cervical cancer is currently the second leading cause of cancer death among women in Ghana. Previous studies have identified lack of awareness, lack of perceived susceptibility, and stigmatizing beliefs as significant sociocultural barriers to cervical cancer screening among Ghanaian women. The purpose of this study was to assess the acceptability of evidence and theory-based, culturally relevant cervical cancer education intervention materials among Ghanaian healthcare providers. Central-location intercept questionnaires were completed by providers (n = 60) in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. Providers reviewed a poster, an audio message, and a brief educational video. The variables assessed included the reaction to the materials, the ability of the materials to attract the attention of the intended audience, the ability of the materials to communicate the main point of the cancer education message, and the reaction to cultural characteristics of the materials. The mean age of the providers (n = 60) was 30.6 years, and the majority (70.8%) were females. Most of the providers had a positive general reaction to the poster, audio message, and video. The majority found the materials to be motivating. Most of the providers found the information in the materials to be attention-getting, interesting, useful, direct/to the point, and related to someone like them. Very few providers (5%) indicated that they were confused by the images or messages used in the materials. The culturally relevant cervical cancer education materials were acceptable to Ghanaian healthcare providers. Based on patient-reported outcomes data analyzed at the provider level, there is evidence that psychotherapists can possess effectiveness strengths and weaknesses when treating patients with different presenting concerns. These within-therapist differences hold promise for personalizing care by prospectively matching patients to therapists' historical effectiveness strengths. In a double-masked randomized controlled trial (RCT; NCT02990000), such matching outperformed pragmatically determined usual case assignment-which leaves personalized, measurement-based matching to chance-in naturalistic outpatient psychotherapy (Constantino et al., JAMA Psychiatry 78:960-969, 2021). Demonstrating that personalization can be even more precise, some research has demonstrated that the strength of this positive match effect was moderated by certain patient characteristics. Notably, though, it could also be that matching is especially important for some therapists to achieve more effective outcomes. Examining this novel question, the present study drew on the Constantino et al. (JAMA Psychiatry 78:960-969, 2021) trial data to explore three therapist-level moderators of matching: (a) effectiveness "spread" (i.e., greater performance variability across patients' presenting problem domains), (b) overestimation of their measurement-based and problem-specific effectiveness, and (c) the frequency with which they use patient-reported routine outcomes monitoring in their practice. Patients were 206 adults, randomized to the match or control condition, treated by 40 therapists who were crossed over conditions. The therapist variables were assessed at the trial's baseline and patients' symptomatic/functional impairment and global distress were assessed regularly up to 16 weeks of treatment. Hierarchical linear models revealed that only therapist effectiveness spread significantly moderated the match effect for the global distress outcome; for therapists with more spread, the match effect was more pronounced, whereas the match effect was minimal for therapists with less effectiveness spread. Notably, two therapist-level covariates unexpectedly emerged as significant moderators for the symptomatic/functional impairment outcome; for clinicians who consistently treated patients with higher versus lower average severity levels and who relatedly treated a higher proportion of patients with primary presenting problems of substance misuse or violence, the beneficial match effect was even stronger. Thus, measurement-based matching may be especially potent for therapists with more variable effectiveness across problem domains, and who consistently treat patients with more severe presenting concerns or with particular primary problems, which provides further precision in conceptualizing personalized care., (© 2024. A streamlined one-day protocol is described to produce isotopically methyl-labeled protein with high levels of deuterium for NMR studies. Using this protocol, the D 2 O and 2 H-glucose content of the media and protonation level of ILV labeling precursors (ketobutyrate and ketovalerate) were varied. The relaxation rate of the multiple-quantum (MQ) state that is present during the HMQC-TROSY pulse sequence was measured for different labeling schemes and this rate was used to predict upper limits of molecular weights for various labeling schemes. The use of deuterated solvents (D 2 O) or deuterated glucose is not required to obtain 1 H- 13 C correlated NMR spectra of a 50 kDa homodimeric protein that are suitable for assignment by mutagenesis. High quality spectra of 100-150 kDa proteins, suitable for most applications, can be obtained without the use of deuterated glucose. Salt marshes act as natural barriers that reduce wave energy during storm events and help protect coastal communities located in low-lying areas. This ecosystem can be an important asset for climate adaptation due to its particular capability of vertically accrete to adjust to long-term changes in water levels. Therefore, understanding marsh protection benefits thresholds in the face of sea-level rise (SLR) is important for planning future climate adaptation. In this context, the main goal of this manuscript is to examine how the storm protection benefits provided by salt marshes might evolve under SLR projections with different probability levels and emission pathways. In this study, a modeling framework that employs marsh migration predictions from the Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model (SLAMM) as parameterization into a hydrodynamic and wave model (ADCIRC + SWAN) was utilized to explicitly represent wave attenuation by vegetation under storm surge conditions. SLAMM predictions indicate that the SLR scenario, a combination of probability level and emission pathways, plays a substantial role in determining future marsh migration or marsh area loss. For example, results based on the 50% probability, stabilized emissions scenario show an increase of 45% in the marsh area on Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore by 2100, whereas Dorchester County alone could experience a 75% reduction in total salt marsh areas by 2100 under the 1% probability, growing emissions scenario. ADCIRC + SWAN results using SLAMM land cover and elevation outputs indicate that distinct temporal thresholds emerge where marsh extent sharply decreases and wave heights increase, especially after 2050, and exacerbates further after 2080. Job boredom is one of the most common negative affective states experienced in the workplace, yet also among the least well-understood. One stream of research suggests that employees frequently react to job boredom by engaging in counterproductive work behaviors (CWB). However, recent studies show the converse-that engaging in CWB relates to job boredom. As studies on the job boredom-CWB relationship primarily have been cross-sectional and at the between-person level of analysis, the directionality between these constructs remains in question. Therefore, research examining the within-person dynamics of job boredom and CWB within a short timeframe is needed. In the current study, we explore whether job boredom influences subsequent changes in CWB and vice versa. We examined these relationships using latent change score (LCS) modeling with 10-day experience sampling data ( N  = 120 individuals providing 1,161 observations). Findings supported a reciprocal relationship. Employees' level of job boredom on a given day was associated with a subsequent increase in CWB on the next day, and the level of CWB on a given day was associated with a subsequent increase in job boredom on the next day. Background: Clinician burnout has become a major issue in the USA, contributing to increased mental health challenges and problems with quality of care, productivity, and retention., Objective: The objective of this study was to understand primary care clinicians' perspectives on burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as their perspectives on the causes of burnout and strategies to improve clinician well-being., Approach: This qualitative research involved in-depth interviews with 27 primary care clinicians practicing in a range of settings across the USA. Semi-structured interviews lasted between 60 and 90 min and were conducted using Zoom video conferencing software between July 2021 and February 2023. Transcripts were analyzed in NVivo software using multiple cycles of coding., Key Results: Clinicians shared their experiences with burnout and mental health challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Contributors to burnout included high levels of documentation, inefficiencies of electronic health record (EHR) systems, high patient volume, staffing shortages, and expectations for responding to patient emails and telephone calls. The majority of participants described the need to work after clinic hours to complete documentation. Many clinicians also discussed the need for health system leaders to make sincere efforts to enhance work-life balance and create a culture of health and well-being for health professionals. Suggested strategies to address these issues included supportive leadership, accessible mental health services, and additional administrative time to complete documentation., Conclusions: The results of this study provide an in-depth view of participating primary care clinicians' experiences and perceptions of burnout and other mental health challenges. These viewpoints can improve awareness of the issues and strategies to improve the health and well-being of our clinician workforce. This article describes capacity building and formative assessments completed at five faith-based organizations (FBOs) in Washington, DC to inform sustainable health promotion programming led by certified health ministers. Five FBO partners were recruited with two congregation members from each FBO completing a health minister certificate program. A series of health assessments were conducted to assess each FBO's capacity to implement evidence-based lifestyle change programs that are responsive to congregation members' health needs. Results indicated a need for programming to support older adults in managing high blood pressure and arthritis. In the first two experiments an empty tube open at one end was placed in different locations. Male hamsters, tested one at a time, tended to stay close to the tube or in it. During the first minute of the first 4 sessions of Experiment 3, the hamster was unrestrained. If it entered the tube, it was locked within the tube. If it did not enter the tube during the first min, it was placed in it, and the tube was locked. Fifteen min later, the tube was opened, and the hamster was unrestrained for a further 20 min. The tube remained open during Session 5. Hamsters spent more time near the tube than predicted by chance and continued to enter the tube although tube-occupancy duration did not differ from chance levels. In Experiment 4, male rats were tested in two groups: rats in one group had been previously trapped in a tube and rats in the other group allowed to freely explore the test space. For the first two min of each of four 20-min sessions, trapped-group subjects were permitted to move about the chamber unless they entered the tube. In that case, they were locked in for the remainder of the session. If, after two min, they did not enter the tube, they were locked in it for the remaining 18 min. Free rats were unrestricted in all sessions. In Session 5, when both groups were permitted to move freely in the chamber, trapped and free rats spent more time in and near the tube than predicted by chance. Background: Women have been under-represented in trials of antipsychotic medications., Aim: Our primary objective was to evaluate five adverse events (AE) associated with first-generation antipsychotics (FGAs) among women relative to men through an analysis of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS)., Method: We queried 24.6 million AE reports from 2000 to 2023 involving FGAs. The study cohort consisted of chlorpromazine (n = 3317), fluphenazine (n = 1124), haloperidol (n = 16,709), loxapine (n = 3151), perphenazine (n = 816), thioridazine (n = 665), thiothixene (n = 244), and trifluoperazine (n = 360). Cases of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), tardive dyskinesia (TD), Torsades de Pointes (TdP), agranulocytosis (AG), and cerebrovascular adverse events (CVAE) were identified. Reporting odds ratios (ROR) and associated 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated with logistic regression for each AE among women relative to men., Results: A total of 2,857 serious AEs were evaluated in the study cohort (NMS = 1810, TD = 434, TdP = 260, AG = 149, CVAE = 204). The ROR for women compared to men was 0.79 (95% CI, 0.71-0.87) for NMS, 0.83 (0.68-1.01) for TD, 1.21 (0.94-1.53) for TdP, 0.71 (0.51-0.98) for AG, and 0.91 (0.68-1.19) for CVAE. A secondary analysis revealed a higher odds in women compared to men of hospitalization associated with reports of TD (ROR = 1.95, 1.29-2.94) and death associated with reports of AG (ROR = 2.46, 1.15-5.24). A subgroup analysis of haloperidol revealed an ROR = 1.67 (1.26-2.21) for women relative to men for TdP., Conclusion: The subgroup analysis of haloperidol AEs revealed a significantly higher reporting odds ratio for TdP. Prior research has found that women with disabilities have often experienced disparities in receipt of cervical cancer screening. However, there is a research gap regarding receipt of cervical cancer screening by types of disability. This study examined the differences in receiving cervical cancer screening through self-reported Pap testing among women by disability type. This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the 2016, 2018, and 2020 Behavioral Risk Factor and Surveillance System (BRFSS). The relative risk of cervical cancer screening through self-reported Pap tests received within the past three years among women aged 21-65 by disability type was compared using modified Poisson regression with robust error variance. A total of 307,142 women from across the USA were sampled. In every disability group, older women were significantly less likely to receive Pap tests than their counterparts without disabilities. Women with multiple disabilities (aRR=0.91; 95% CI, 0.89-0.94) and those with ambulatory disabilities (aRR=0.93; 95% CI, 0.91-0.97) reported being less likely to receive Pap tests than women with no disability. Ambulatory disability and multiple disabilities are associated with a lower likelihood of cervical cancer screening with Pap test, increasing the need to eliminate disability-specific disparities in Pap testing. Future efforts should focus on improving cancer education programs tailored to the needs of women with disabilities, addressing barriers related to mobility and access to healthcare services, and ensuring equitable access to preventive screenings., (© 2023. Hyponatremia is a disorder of water homeostasis. Water balance is maintained by the collaboration of renal function and cerebral structures, which regulate thirst mechanisms and secretion of the antidiuretic hormone. Measurement of serum-osmolality, urine osmolality and urine-sodium concentration help to diagnose the different reasons for hyponatremia. Hyponatremia induces cerebral edema and might lead to severe neurological symptoms, which need acute therapy. Also, mild forms of hyponatremia should be treated causally, or at least symptomatically. An inadequate fast increase of the serum sodium level should be avoided, because it raises the risk of cerebral osmotic demyelination. Background: Daratumumab and isatuximab are anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies indicated for the treatment of multiple myeloma. These agents can increase the risk of infectious complications, including viral infections. Cases of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation have been reported in the literature in patients receiving anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody-based therapies., Aim: The objective of this analysis was to determine if the association between anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody exposure and the development of hepatitis B reactivation had a detectable reporting signal in the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS)., Method: We conducted a post marketing pharmacovigilance analysis by querying the FAERS for reports of HBV reactivation with daratumumab or isatuximab exposure reported between 2015 and 2022. Disproportionality signal analysis was conducted by calculating reporting odds ratios (RORs)., Results: Sixteen cases of hepatitis B virus reactivation were reported in the FAERS database among patients receiving daratumumab or isatuximab reported between 2015 and 2022. Large amounts of antibiotics have been discharged into wastewater during the COVID-19 pandemic due to overuse and misuse of antibiotics to treat patients. Wastewater-based surveillance can be used as an early warning for antibiotic resistance (AR) emergence. The present study analyzed municipal wastewater corresponding to the major pandemic waves (WW1, WW2, and WW3) in India along with hospital wastewater (Ho) taken as a benchmark for AR. Commonly prescribed antibiotics during a pandemic, azithromycin and cefixime residues, were found in the range of 2.1-2.6 μg/L in Ho and WW2. Total residual antibiotic concentration was less in WW2; however, the total antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) count was 1065.6 ppm compared to 85.2 ppm in Ho. Metagenome and RT-qPCR analysis indicated a positive correlation between antibiotics and non-corresponding ARGs (blaOXA, aadA, cat, aph3, and ere), where 7.2-7.5% was carried by plasmid in the bacterial community of WW1 and WW2. Moreover, as the abundance of the dfrA and int1 genes varied most among municipal wastewater, they can be suggested as AR markers for the pandemic. The common pathogens Streptococcus, Escherichia, Shigella, and Aeromonas were putative ARG hosts in metagenome-assembled genomes. The ARG profile and antibiotic levels varied between municipal wastewaters but were fairly similar for WW2 and Ho, suggesting the impact of the pandemic in shaping the resistome pattern. The study provides insights into the resistome dynamic, AR markers, and host-ARG association in wastewater during the COVID-19 surge. Continued surveillance and identification of intervention points for AR beyond the pandemic are essential to curbing the environmental spread of ARGs in the near future., (© 2023. Sea level rise (SLR) is the most significant climate change-related threat to coastal wetlands, driving major transformations in coastal regions through marsh migration. Landscape transformations due to marsh migration are manifested in terms of horizontal and vertical changes in land cover and elevation, respectively. These processes will have an impact on saltmarsh wave attenuation that is yet to be explored. This study stands as a comprehensive analysis of spatially distributed wave attenuation by vegetation in the context of a changing climate. Our results show that: i) changes in saltmarsh cover have little to no effect on the attenuation of floods, while ii) changes in elevation can significantly reduce flood extents and water depths; iii) overland wave heights are directly influenced by marsh migration, although iv) being indirectly attenuated by the water depth limiting effects of water depth attenuation driven by changes in elevation; v) the influence of saltmarsh accretion on wave attenuation is largely evident near the marsh edge, where the increasing elevations can drive major wave energy losses via wave breaking. Lastly, vi) considering the synergy between SLR, marsh migration, and changes in elevation results in significantly more wave attenuation than considering the eustatic effects of SLR and/or horizontal marsh migration alone, and therefore should be adopted in future studies., (© 2023. Structural and cultural barriers have led to limited access to and use of mental health services among immigrants in the United States (U.S.). This study provided a systematic review of factors associated with help-seeking attitudes, intentions, and behaviors among immigrants who are living in the U.S. This systematic review was performed using Medline, CINAHL, APA PsycInfo, Global Health, and Web of Science. Qualitative and quantitative studies examining mental help-seeking among immigrants in the U.S. were included. 954 records were identified through a search of databases. After removing duplicates and screening by title and abstract, a total of 104 articles were eligible for full-text review and a total of 19 studies were included. Immigrants are more reluctant to seek help from professional mental health services due to barriers such as stigma, cultural beliefs, lack of English language proficiency, and lack of trust in health care providers., (© 2023. Exposure to chronic stress is a major public health concern. Black youth are vulnerable to chronic stress exposure given their overrepresentation in urban neighborhoods characterized by socio-ecological stressors. We contribute to this emerging body of knowledge by (1) investigating stress-induced variability in cortisol response patterns among Black youth, and (2) examining risk and protective factors associated with physiological stress responses. Salivary cortisol was collected from a community sample of 123 low-income Black youth ages 13 to 21. Latent class analysis (LCA) and logistic regression were utilized to identify discrete groups based on cortisol reactivity, and psychological, behavioral, and socio-ecological correlates of class membership. LCA supported a 2-class model of cortisol reactivity. Youth in class one were indicative of a normative stress response with mean cortisol awakening response of 0.38 μg/dL (SD = 0.19), 0.48 μg/dL (SD = 0.20) at time 2, and 0.44 μg/dL (SD = 0.20) at time 3. Youth in class two exhibited a blunted stress response with mean cortisol awakening response of 0.20 μg/dL (SD = 0.11), 0.21 μg/dL (SD = 0.09) at time 2, and 0.18 μg/dL (SD = 0.08) at time 3. Delinquent peer exposure and post-traumatic stress symptoms were negatively associated with blunted stress responses, while greater depressive symptoms were positively associated with blunted stress responses. These S1 guidelines are an updated and expanded version of the S1 guidelines on long COVID differential diagnostic and management strategies. They summarize the state of knowledge on postviral conditions like long/post COVID at the time of writing. Due to the dynamic nature of knowledge development, they are intended to be "living guidelines". The focus is on practical applicability at the level of primary care, which is understood to be the appropriate place for initial access and for primary care and treatment. The guidelines provide recommendations on the course of treatment, differential diagnostics of the most common symptoms that can result from infections like with SARS-CoV-2, treatment options, patient management and care, reintegration and rehabilitation. To obtain more accurate and robust feedback information from the students' assessment outcomes and to communicate it to students and optimize teaching and learning strategies, educational researchers and practitioners must critically reflect on whether the existing methods of data analytics are capable of retrieving the information provided in the database. This study compared and contrasted the prediction performance of an item response theory method, particularly the use of an explanatory item response model (EIRM), and six supervised machine learning (ML) methods for predicting students' item responses in educational assessments, considering student- and item-related background information. Each of seven prediction methods was evaluated through cross-validation approaches under three prediction scenarios: (a) unrealized responses of new students to existing items, (b) unrealized responses of existing students to new items, and (c) missing responses of existing students to existing items. The results of a simulation study and two real-life assessment data examples showed that employing student- and item-related background information in addition to the item response data substantially increases the prediction accuracy for new students or items. Aim: Process evaluations for social and behavioral interventions are increasingly important as interventions become more complex and multi-faceted. Conducting process evaluations in low-resource international settings can be challenging. Process evaluations in low-resource international settings can help inform and improve quality of ongoing intervention implementation. We conducted a process evaluation of a cluster-randomized controlled trial to assess the efficacy of a microfinance and health leadership program on sexually transmitted infections and intimate partner violence perpetration among young men in Tanzania., Subject and Methods: Our trial included 1,491 participants and the intervention lasted two years. We collected process data on microfinance loan uptake and repayment, and health leaders' health conversations with peers to monitor intervention reach and dose received. We developed a database system that allowed offline data collection and synced to a central database when internet was accessible. Research staff in the U.S. accessed data from the central database to analyze and create regular implementation reports., Results: Process graphical reports facilitated identification of implementation challenges and enabled us to resolve issues before they worsened. For example, from a group with low microfinance loan repayment we learned area participants perceived the loan to be a grant, and then we clarified the misinformation with participants., Conclusions: The process evaluation helped inform ongoing intervention implementation, including approaches to improve reach and uptake of interventions. Previous studies showed that the receipt of cervical cancer screening among women with disabilities is low. Some disparities may also exist within the subpopulation of women with disabilities. This systematic review synthesized the current literature on the receipt of cervical cancer screening by disability type. PubMed, ProQuest, EBSCO, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar searches were performed to identify studies between April 2012 and January 2022. A total of ten studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. All studies employed a cross-sectional approach (n = 10) and most used multivariable logistic regression (n = 7). Two of the ten articles included classified disability types as basic action difficulties and complex activities, while eight of the articles classified it as either hearing, vision, cognitive, mobility, physical, functional, language disability, or autism. The association between disability types and cervical cancer screening was inconsistent across publications. All the studies except for one however indicated that evidence of lower screening rates exists within the subpopulation of women with disability. The available evidence supports the conclusion that disparities in cervical cancer screening are evident in disability subgroups; however, evidence is inconsistent regarding which disability type experiences lower receipt of screening. Screened articles utilized different definitions for disability adding to the inconsistency in the results. More focused research using a standardized definition for disability is required to determine which disability type experiences significant disparities in cervical cancer screening. Transition-age youth with mental health conditions from low socio-economic backgrounds often drop out of mental health services and, as such, do not receive therapeutic doses of treatment. Cornerstone is an innovative team-based, multi-component intervention designed to address the clinical needs of this understudied population through coordination and extensive provision of services in vivo (in the community). The present study used a convergent parallel mixed-methods design. Researchers collected quantitative and qualitative data during a small developmental trial, analyzing the two data types independently and then exploring them side-by-side to evaluate feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary implementation. Semi-structured interviews and quantitative surveys were conducted with transition-age youth, clinic staff, and policy makers. Qualitative interview guides were developed using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research to build understanding on implementation determinants alongside feasibility and acceptability. A two-group preliminary randomized trial was conducted to assess feasibility outcomes, such as recruitment, randomization, measurement performance, and trends in pre- to post- outcomes. Using grounded theory coding techniques, transcripts were coded by multiple coders, and themes were identified on acceptability and implementation. The team recruited fifty-six transition-age youth. Randomization was used in the study and the intervention was provided without incident. Results suggest individual components with both the social worker and mentor were more acceptable to participants than group-based approaches. Thematic analyses revealed themes associated with the inner, outer, and policy contexts describing a range of critical implementation determinants. Findings suggest that Cornerstone is feasible, acceptable, and promising for transition-age youth. The COVID-19 pandemic created a host of difficulties for college students. There is research noting the unique vulnerability of this population's DASS symptoms and further connections of coping strategies. The current study aims to provide a snapshot of this unique time in higher education by examining the relationship between perceived difficulty, retrospectively, in the Spring 2020 semester and DASS symptoms in the Fall 2020 semester, and moderators of coping strategies in a sample of USA university students ( n  = 248; M age = 21.08, SD = 4.63; 79.3% = Female). The results yielded a clear predictor relationship between perceived difficulty and symptoms of DASS. However, only problem-solving coping strategy proved a significant moderator for stress; surprisingly, problem-solving coping appeared to exacerbate the relationship. Suicide continues to be a serious public health issue for the US veteran population as its prevalence has skyrocketed over the last 15 years. This cross-sectional study estimates the prevalence of suicidal behaviors and prescription opioid misuse among veterans and identifies associations between suicidal behaviors and misuse of prescription opioids using data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. The findings show that approximately 3.7% of all veterans in this sample experienced suicidal behaviors, while nearly 3.0% reported misusing prescription opioids. Veterans who misused prescription opioids had a much higher prevalence of suicidal behaviors (16.3%) than veterans who used prescription opioids without misuse (4.8%) and those who did not use prescription opioids at all (2.5%). Opioid misuse is strongly associated with suicidal behaviors among veterans. Immediate substance use and mental health screenings, upon first contact with a healthcare system, are imperative in preventing and reducing suicide rates within this vulnerable population., (© 2022. Purpose: Intuitive eating (IE) is an adaptive eating construct for which little research exists in eating disorder (ED) samples. IE is negatively correlated with disordered eating behaviors in healthy adolescents and adults, and similar associations have been found in adults with EDs. This study aims to examine IE in a treatment seeking sample of adolescents and their caregivers to understand the role of IE in weight gain during FBT., Methods: Descriptive statistics and bivariate correlations were calculated in a sample of 47 pairs of adolescent patients and their caregivers who initiated outpatient FBT at a large academic medical center. Analyses examined associations between caregiver and adolescent IE on the Intuitive Eating Scale (IES), change in percent expected body weight (%EBW) by session 4 and end of treatment (EOT), clinical impairment, and ED pathology., Results: Significant correlations were found between aspects of adolescent IE, ED symptoms, and clinical impairment. Caregiver IES scores (Reliance on Hunger and Satiety Cues, Body-Food Choice Congruence, IES Total) were negatively related to adolescent ED symptoms (EDE-Q Weight Concerns, EDE-Q Shape Concerns, EDE-Q Global) at baseline. Caregiver IE (Eating for Physical Rather than Emotional Reasons) was positively associated with adolescent weight gain at FBT session 4 and EOT, even when statistically adjusting for gender and initial level of care., Conclusion: Study results were consistent with past research indicating adolescent IE is negatively associated with ED behaviors, cognitions, and impairment. This study is the first to provide evidence that caregiver IE is positively associated with adolescent weight gain in FBT and is the first to provide evidence that caregiver IE is negatively related to adolescent ED symptoms. The importance of public transportation service quality research is significantly increasing in recent years, it is the key to understanding and analyzing passengers' preferences. Different approaches are utilized to explore users' preferences however, dominantly these apply merely subjective scoring of the attributes and alternatives of the mobility. In this paper, we design a specific model for public transportation mode choice which is capable of integrating subjective scoring with scoring by objective measures such as distance or time. Owing to this purpose, we combine the outranking Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) as a method to evaluate passengers' preferences for tangible and intangible criteria with the fuzzy theory, and the Graphical Analysis for Interactive Aid (GAIA) plane to visualize the interactions between attributes as well as to test the robustness of the results via sensitivity analysis. The contribution of this paper is the constructed integrative method that is less subjective than the well-known models but also keeps the freedom of individual evaluators in expressing their preferences. Moreover, another significant issue of mode choice analysis is the group consideration, which is also refined in the new methodology by taking into account not only the mean of group preferences but also their range. A common characteristic of public surveys, the possible vague responses of the layman pattern is solved with the fuzzy approach to reduce the risk of uncertain scoring. The proposed model acts as a great base for the fuzzy inference system that can facilitate mode choice for passengers within a changing environment. Purpose: Blebs are known risk factors for intracranial aneurysm (IA) rupture. We analyzed differences between IAs that ruptured with blebs and those that ruptured without developing blebs to identify distinguishing characteristics among them and suggest possible mechanistic implications., Methods: Using image-based models, 25 hemodynamic and geometric parameters were compared between ruptured IAs with and without blebs (n = 673), stratified by location. Hemodynamic and geometric differences between bifurcation and sidewall aneurysms and for aneurysms at five locations were also analyzed., Results: Ruptured aneurysms harboring blebs were exposed to higher flow conditions than aneurysms that ruptured without developing blebs, and this was consistent across locations. Bifurcation aneurysms were exposed to higher flow conditions than sidewall aneurysms. They had larger maximum wall shear stress (WSS), more concentrated WSS distribution, and larger numbers of critical points than sidewall aneurysms. Additionally, bifurcation aneurysms were larger, more elongated, and had more distorted shapes than sidewall aneurysms. Aneurysm morphology was associated with aneurysm location (p < 0.01). Flow conditions were different between aneurysm locations., Conclusion: Aneurysms at different locations are likely to develop into varying morphologies and thus be exposed to diverse flow conditions that may predispose them to follow distinct pathways towards rupture with or without bleb development. Purpose: To describe the appearance of chronically hemorrhagic adenomas on adrenal protocol CT and correlate imaging with pathologic findings., Methods: Retrospective case series of adult patients with resected adrenal adenomas showing internal hemorrhage at histology. Seven of nine patients underwent pre-operative adrenal protocol CT and 2/7 underwent unenhanced CT with portal venous phase CT. Two abdominal radiologists in consensus assessed the CT images for the presence of calcifications, macroscopic fat, cystic/necrotic appearance, and the presence, pattern, and percent nodule volume of areas < 10 HU on unenhanced CT. Absolute washout was calculated using a large ROI, and ROIs on the highest and lowest attenuating regions on the portal venous phase., Results: Mean adenoma length was 4.9 cm. All adenomas had areas measuring < 10 HU on unenhanced CT, ranging from < 20 to > 80% nodule volume. Calcifications were present in 4/9 adenomas and gross fat in 4/9 on CT. Of the seven cases with adrenal protocol CT, the absolute washout was < 60% in 5/7 using the large ROI, 5/7 using the low attenuation ROI, and 7/7 using the high attenuation ROI. At histology, all nine cases had microscopic evidence of hemorrhage, lipid rich adenoma cells, and fibrosclerosis. Myelolipomatous changes were identified in 4/9 cases, with the remaining five cases showing lipomatous metaplasia without a myeloid component., Conclusion: Chronically hemorrhagic adrenal adenomas demonstrated variable areas < 10 HU on unenhanced CT corresponding to lipid rich adenoma cells. This study used a differences-in-differences strategy with national time diary data from 2003 to 2018 to examine the effects of minimum wage changes on parents' time with children and in child-related activities. Findings indicate that a $1 increase in the minimum wage was associated with a small increase (2.6%) in the likelihood parents with one or more children under age 16 spent time actively caring for or helping children on weekends, and in more total time with children (a 2% increase in secondary child care time). In general, coefficients were larger for mothers' time use, particularly non-employed mothers, with potential implications for gender disparities in caregiving. Unmarried parents and parents of color showed increases in their time spent in activities related to children's health (~55% increase). Mothers showed an increase (8%) in the likelihood they spent any time in child education-related activities, and increases in child care time appeared concentrated among parents whose youngest child was 6-15 years of age. It has recently been proposed that the intermittent access (IntA) drug self-administration procedure better produces behavioral changes relevant to addiction than the long access (LgA) procedure. In this version of the IntA procedure, the drug is made available for a 5-min period during each half hour of a 6-h session. In contrast, on the LgA procedure, the drug is available continuously for 6 h. Previous studies have found that IntA drug self-administration produces greater drug motivation, measured by increased progressive ratio breakpoints, than LgA self-administration. It has been hypothesized that this effect is due to the rapid, "spiking" brain levels of the drug, and consequent neuroadaptations, experienced by rats during IntA sessions. However, no study has compared the effects of IntA versus LgA training on reinforcer motivation when using a non-drug reinforcer. The present study compared motivation for a saccharin reinforcer after IntA or LgA training. In Experiment 1, separate groups of rats lever-pressed for saccharin on the IntA or LgA procedures. In Experiment 2, a within-subjects design was used where rats pressed one lever on the IntA procedure and another lever on the LgA procedure for saccharin. In both experiments, IntA training produced greater breakpoints than LgA training. As no drug was used here, spiking drug levels could not have been responsible for the increased saccharin motivation observed after IntA training. Instead, it is proposed that differences in stimulus-reinforcer associations learned during IntA versus LgA training may be responsible for the effect. Limited research exists on suicidal behaviors among women with disabilities. This study examined disability, suicidal behaviors, and associated health determinants among non-pregnant women of reproductive age. Data from the 2015-2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (n = 76,750) were used to estimate associations between disability and suicidal behaviors and evaluate the effects of health determinants on suicidal behaviors among non-pregnant women of reproductive age with disabilities. Approximately 22% of non-pregnant women of reproductive age with disabilities reported suicidal behaviors compared to only 4.3% of women without disabilities. Women with disabilities had greater adjusted odds of past-year suicidal behaviors (AOR 1.73; 95% CI 1.60-1.87) than those without disabilities. Psychological distress (OR 3.66; 95% CI 2.98-4.49), major depressive episode (OR 3.22; 95% CI 2.82-3.67), unmet perceived mental health need (OR 2.29; 95% CI 1.98-2.65), age 18-25 years (OR 1.65; 95% CI 1.43-1.92), and illicit drug use (OR 1.40; 95% CI 1.20-1.64) were significantly associated with higher odds of suicidal behaviors, and specifically suicidal ideation, among women with disabilities. Non-pregnant women of reproductive age with disabilities are at increased risk for exhibiting suicidal behaviors. Bullying victimization is a prevalent concern for neurodivergent (e.g., autistic, ADHD) youth. Bullying assessment methods vary widely and there is currently no questionnaire specific to neurodivergent youth. The Assessment of Bullying Experiences (ABE) was created to fill this gap. The ABE questionnaire was completed by 335 parents of school-age youth characterized as autistic, having ADHD, or community comparison. Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis identified a four-factor solution, aligning with verbal, physical, relational, and cyber victimization. Construct validity analyses indicate the ABE converges with an existing bullying questionnaire and diverges from disruptive behavior or internalizing symptoms. Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention (EIBI) is effective for preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Parental measures are rarely included in EIBI effectiveness studies, yet parental distress and lower self-efficacy are associated with poorer child outcomes. Parents of preschoolers with ASD (N = 485) were surveyed at baseline (T1), one-year post-intervention (T2), and school entry (T3) about family distress/crisis, parental self-efficacy, and satisfaction with services in two Canadian provinces. Family distress/crisis decreased and parental self-efficacy increased from T1 to T2. Increases in self-efficacy were largely maintained at T3. Parents were highly satisfied with services. A procedure is presented and discussed that highlights the use of the Nix Pro Color Sensor ("Nix") in digitizing soil colors with applications for forested wetland soils. Informed by our soil color investigations using both the Munsell Soil Color Chart (MSCC) and the Nix in forested wetlands of the northern Virginia area, we crafted a standard operating procedure (SOP), adaptable to various locations and/or soil types, that guides users-regardless of knowledge of soil ecology or familiarity with the Nix-to successfully assess and monitor soil colors at various depths. Our SOP outlines steps for digitally collecting, storing, and sharing soil color data. Through the implementation of this procedure, soil color monitoring can enter the digital age, removing barriers of entry to soil color determination and enhancing individuals' interest in monitoring and understanding of the importance of soil color as an environmental and ecological indicator. With continued refinement and adaptation to intended use, the SOP herein presented has the potential to aid wetland/watershed assessment by providing data on soil colors that can be tracked over time while also encouraging public engagement in environmental monitoring of soils., (© 2022. We studied a strain of Bacillus isolated from an artisanal tannery in Salta, Argentina. It was identified as Bacillus licheniformis B6 by 16 S phylogenetic analysis and MALDI TOF (GenBank accession code No. KP776730). The synthesis of lipopeptides by B6 and their antibacterial activity against clinical pathogenic strains was analyzed both in the cell-free supernatant (CFS) and in the crude fraction of lipopeptides (LF). Overall, the CFS did not significantly reduce the viability of the studied strains (Staphylococcus aureus 269 and ATCC 43,300, Escherichia coli 4591 and 25,922, Klebsiella sp. 1087 and 1101). However, LF at 9 mg/mL reduced the viability of those pathogenic strains by 2 and 3 log orders compared to those of the control. When the effects of LF and ampicillin were compared, they showed different sensitivity against pathogenic strains. For example, E. coli 4591 was the strain most resistant to ampicillin, requiring 250 mg/mL of antibiotic to achieve the same inhibitory effect as 9 mg/mL of B6 LF. SEM observations of the effect of LF on biofilm formation by E. coli 4591 and Klebsiella sp. 1087 clearly showed that biofilm structures were destabilized, these strains turning into weak biofilm formers. Signals in the CFS and LF corresponding to kurstakin and iturin were identified by MALDI TOF. Interestingly, surfactin was detected, rather than lichenysin, the expected lipopeptide in B. licheniformis species. Signals of bacitracin and fengycins were also found, the latter with a higher number of homologues and relative intensity in the LF than the other lipopeptides. The major reason behind the spread of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) is persistent selective pressure in the environment encountered by bacteria. Genome plasticity plays a crucial role in dissemination of antibiotic resistance among bacterial pathogens. Mobile genetic elements harboring ARGs are reported to dodge bacterial immune system and mediate horizontal gene transfer (HGT) under selective pressure. Residual antibiotic pollutants develop selective pressures that force the bacteria to lose their defense mechanisms (CRISPR-cas) and acquire resistance. The present study targets the ESKAPE organisms (namely, Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp.) causing various nosocomial infections and emerging multidrug-resistant species. The role of CRISPR-cas systems in inhibition of HGT in prokaryotes and its loss due to presence of various stressors in the environment is also focused in the study. IncF and IncH plasmids were identified in all strains of E. faecalis and K. pneumoniae, carrying Beta-lactam and fluoroquinolone resistance genes, whereas sal3, phiCTX, and SEN34 prophages harbored aminoglycoside resistance genes (aadA, aac). With the rapid growth of the world's informatics innovation, printed circuit boards (PCBs) processing produces wastewaters with copper and nickel ions. This study aims to remove and recover copper and nickel ions from synthetic PCB wastewater using a fluidized-bed homogeneous granulation process (FBHGP). FBHGP is an advanced green technology that removes copper and nickel and transforms the sludge into a hard granule. The impacts on the removal and granulation of copper and nickel of the initial operating pH, molar ratio (MR) of precipitant to metal, and precipitant flow rate have been evaluated. The highest copper removal was attained at 97% at pH of 6.5 and 98% copper removal at an MR of 2.0 and 10 mL·min -1 . A 93% copper granulation was achieved at the same pH, while a 94% copper granulation was also achieved at the same MR and precipitant flow rate. At a pH of 7.5, 85% nickel removal and 74% granulation were attained for a nickel. At an MR of 1.75, 82% and 74% were the highest removal and granulation. While at 25 mL·min -1 , the highest removal was 83%, and 73% nickel granulation was achieved. Copper has been successfully recovered from synthetic PCB wastewater using FBHGP. Our visual system relies on memory to store and retrieve goal-relevant structures and information from the environment for the purpose of optimizing the allocation of attention. This concept, referred to as contextual cueing, has been demonstrated using visual search tasks, wherein repeated visual contexts lead to reduced search times compared with random displays. Subsequently, when an unexpected change occurs in the environment, or memory fails, a cognitive expense is incurred as the mind tries to resolve the conflict with the memory of the previous environmental context. How memory resolves these conflicts and is updated is of great interest. Previous studies showed that, without extensive practice, individuals were unable to associate a secondary target location with a previously learned spatial context following the relocation of the initially learned target. Here, we explored variables that could potentially affect contextual learning and relearning, such as display size, crowding, context color, and whether the target switched to a previously occupied or unoccupied location. Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a neglected tropical disease endemic in ~ 90 countries, with an increasing incidence. Presently available pharmacotherapy implies the systemic administration of moderately/very toxic drugs. Miltefosine (Milt) is the only FDA-approved drug to treat CL via the oral route (Impavido®). It produces side effects; in particular, teratogenic effects are of concern. A topical treatment would have the great advantage of minimising the systemic circulation of the drug, preventing side effects. We prepared dispersions containing Milt and liposomes of different compositions to enhance/modulate trans-epidermal penetration and evaluated in vitro and in vivo efficacy and toxicity, in vitro release rate of the drug and particles size stability with time. Treatments were topically administered to BALB/c mice infected with Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis. The dispersions containing 0.5% Milt eliminated 99% of the parasites and cured the lesions with a complete re-epithelisation, no visible scar and re-growth of hair. Fluid liposomes decreased the time to heal the lesion and the time needed to eliminate viable amastigotes from the lesion site. Relapse of the infection was not found 1 month after treatment in any case. Ultraflexible liposomes on the other hand had no significant in vitro effect but decreased in vivo efficacy. Vector-borne diseases are a serious public health problem, mosquitoes being one of the most important vectors. To analyze the dynamics of this type of disease, Ross-Macdonald models are commonly used. In its simplest formulation and the most common in scientific literature, it is assumed that all mosquitoes are biting at a given rate. To improve this general assumption, we developed a vector-borne disease model with active and inactive vectors as a simple way to incorporate the more general characteristics of mosquito feeding behavior into disease dynamics. Our objective is to obtain an estimate of the Ross-Macdonald biting rate from the feeding parameters that reproduce the same dynamics as the model with active and inactive vectors. Two different cases were analyzed: a SIS-SI model and a SIR-SI model with a single epidemic. Different methods to estimate the biting rate in the Ross-Macdonald model were proposed and analyzed. To compare the results of the models, different epidemiological indicators were considered. When the biting rate is estimated considering that both models have the same basic reproduction number, very similar disease dynamics are obtained. Background: The addition of cisplatin or cetuximab to radiotherapy in patients with locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) has significantly improved the outcome. While the superiority of cisplatin over cetuximab in combination with radiotherapy has been shown in a definitive setting, we set out to compare postoperative chemoradiotherapy with cisplatin to radioimmunotherapy with cetuximab and radiotherapy alone within the Austrian head and neck cancer registry of the Working Group on Pharmaceutical Tumor Treatment (AGMT) study group., Material and Methods: In the AGMT head and neck cancer registry, data of 557 patients with SCCHN from five Austrian cancer centers were prospectively collected between 2012 and 2017. Of these patients 120 received postoperative chemoradiotherapy with cisplatin, 26 patients received postoperative radioimmunotherapy with cetuximab and 56 patients were treated with adjuvant radiotherapy only. Patient characteristics, stage of disease, details on treatment as well as survival were analyzed by a chart-based review., Results: In patients treated with postoperative radiotherapy the addition of cisplatin significantly improved progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) compared to cetuximab (PFS 84.2 months vs. 17.0 months, p = 0.04, OS not reached vs. 46.0 months, p = 0.02) and PFS compared to radiotherapy alone (PFS 84.2 months vs. 28.5 months, p < 0.01). Patients treated with cetuximab were significantly older and had a worse performance score than patients receiving cisplatin or radiotherapy alone., Conclusion: This study confirmed the importance of multimodal treatment concepts in patients with locally advanced SCCHN. As the prevalence of substance use disorders and drug-related deaths continue to rise, addiction treatment facilities are charged with providing effective and efficient services to curb the national substance use crisis. Direct-care staff in treatment service facilities play a crucial role in whether or not evidence-based practices are incorporated. Without their understanding and utilization of patient engagement best practices, an organization risks maintaining the status quo rather than actively pursuing improved outcomes through empirically supported approaches. Through in-depth interviews (N=13) with nurses, counselors, and behavioral health technicians in an inpatient detoxification facility, this study evaluates the perspectives and experiences of direct-care staff through a lens of patient engagement in treatment planning. The findings from these interviews elucidate how participants' personal characteristics and values, perspectives of patient engagement, understanding of treatment planning, and organizational culture and operations facilitate or inhibit the integration of patient engagement for treatment planning in detox., (© 2021. The older foreign-born population is predicted to increase in the United States. As a whole, this population in the long-term care setting is more likely to face greater challenges associated with loneliness and social isolation due to their smaller social networks, language and cultural differences. The benefits of person-centered care have been widely recognized and may be a potential remedy for such challenges felt by older immigrants. Using a qualitative case study approach, this study explored the staff perceptions of a culturally responsive companion program provided to an older Japanese woman with advanced dementia in the long-term care setting to understand the potential benefits of such a program. The first theme that emerged was that the client benefitted from the program in regard to her physical wellbeing, emotional wellbeing, language communication and cultural support. Given the support of Japanese companions, the client was able to express her needs and health symptoms effectively and the staff were subsequently able to provide culturally-sensitive care. The second theme that emerged was the perceived benefits received by the staff. The companion program improved the staff's ability to provide quality care for the resident. This study implies that culturally responsive companion programs may benefit foreign-born older individuals in improving their wellbeing in long-term care settings., (© 2021. Self-organised regular pattern formation is one of the foremost examples of the development of complexity in ecosystems. Despite the wide array of mechanistic models that have been proposed to understand pattern formation, there is limited general understanding of the feedback processes causing pattern formation in ecosystems, and how these affect ecosystem patterning and functioning. Here we propose a generalised model for pattern formation that integrates two types of within-patch feedback: amplification of growth and reduction of losses. Both of these mechanisms have been proposed as causing pattern formation in mussel beds in intertidal regions, where dense clusters of mussels form, separated by regions of bare sediment. We investigate how a relative change from one feedback to the other affects the stability of uniform steady states and the existence of spatial patterns. We conclude that there are important differences between the patterns generated by the two mechanisms, concerning both biomass distribution in the patterns and the resilience of the ecosystems to disturbances., (© 2021.
