Optical interconnect technology has been adopted for over half a century. Today approximately one billion optical connectors and interconnects are deployed annually, and the growth is expected to increase as more technologies incorporate optical and photonic components. Although its basic function (the conveyance of photons over a channel) has remained the same, optical interconnect has been constantly evolving and innovating over the decades to push the boundaries of performance. In this paper we report on the evolution of optical interconnect technology from its initial applications in long haul telecommunications links to its future application to quantum networks.

The cardiopulmonary affects and the affects on muscular microperfusion of the beta adrenergic agonist, clenbuterol (0.8 mcg/kg intravenously), were investigated in dorsally recumbent anesthetized ponies. Muscle microcirculation was measured by laser Doppler flowmetry, utilizing fine optical fiber probes. Other measurements included heart rate, cardiac output, arterial blood pressure, and arterial blood gas tensions. Clenbuterol injection caused a regular, but transitory rise in muscle microcirculation, an increase in heart rate, and cardiac output and a decrease in mean arterial blood pressure. Clenbuterol did appear to prevent the continuing fall in arterial blood oxygen tensions seen in the treatment groups, but had only minimal affects in reversing the hypoxia already present.© (1994) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. The laser Raman spectra of somT HPD and of_FD in different solvents were investigated. These spectra extended from 570 cm to 1640 cm . Experiments showed that the solvents had a pronounced effect on these spectra. Some HPD had a strong curative effect, and the two Raman lines 1432 cm-1 and 1502 cm-1 , characterizing the u(C-C) + δ(C-H) and u(C=C) vibrations in the side-chain group, were observed.© (1985) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
