Glioma is the most common intracranial tumor of the central nervous system in adults; however, the diagnosis of glioma, and its grading and histological subtyping, is challenging for pathologists. The present study assessed serine and arginine rich splicing factor 1 (SRSF1) expression in 224 glioma cases in the Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) database, and verified its expression by immunohistochemical analysis of specimens from 70 clinical patients. In addition, the prognostic potential of SRSF1 concerning the survival status of patients was evaluated. In vitro, the biological role of SRSF1 was assessed using MTT, colony formation, wound healing and Transwell assays. The results revealed that SRSF1 expression was significantly associated with the grading and the histopathological subtype of glioma. As determined using a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the specificity of SRSF1 for glioblastoma (GBM) and World Health Organization (WHO) grade 3 astrocytoma was 40 and 48%, respectively, whereas the sensitivity was 100 and 85%. By contrast, pilocytic astrocytoma tumors exhibited negative immunoexpression of SRSF1. Additionally, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis indicated that high SRSF1 expression predicted a worse prognosis for patients with glioma in both the CGGA and clinical cohorts. In vitro, the results demonstrated that SRSF1 promoted the proliferation, invasion and migration of U87MG and U251 cells. These data suggested that immunohistochemical analysis of SRSF1 expression is highly sensitive and specific in the diagnosis of GBM and WHO grade 3 astrocytoma, and may have an important role in glioma grading. Furthermore, the lack of SRSF1 is a potential diagnostic biomarker for pilocytic astrocytoma. However, neither in oligodendroglioma and astrocytoma, nor in GBM was an association detected between SRSF1 expression and IDH1 mutations or 1p/19q co-deletion. Effects of Rapamycin on the proliferation and apoptosis of retinoblastoma cells through the phosphatidylinositol 3-hydroxy kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway were studied. The retinoblastoma Y79 cells were selected and divided into negative control group (NC group), 0.2 μM Rapamycin group and 0.4 μM Rapamycin group. Then the proliferative activity of Y79 cells was detected using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8) assay, the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in cells in each group was detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and the apoptosis of Y79 cells was detected via terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay. Moreover, the changes in Y79 cell cycle and apoptosis were determined through flow cytometry, and apoptosis and PI3K/ AKT pathway were detected using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and western blotting. It was found that the number of cells and the proliferative activity were significantly reduced in 0.2 μM Rapamycin group and 0.4 μM Rapamycin group. In 0.2 μM Rapamycin group and 0.4 μM Rapamycin group, the content of ROS and MDA was significantly decreased, while that of SOD was notably increased. TUNEL assay and flow cytometry showed that in 0.2 μM Rapamycin group and 0.4 μM Rapamycin group, the number of apoptotic cells was obviously increased, and the cell cycle was basically arrested in S phase. The expression levels of Bcl-2, PI3K and AKT declined in 0.2 μM Rapamycin group and 0.4 μM Rapamycin group, whereas the expression of Caspase 8 increased. Similar results were also obtained in the protein assay. The above results were significantly superior in 0.4 μM Rapamycin group to those in 0.2 μM Rapamycin group. Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) occurs due to the accumulation of complications associated with rheumatic fever, and it results in high morbidity and mortality. The majority of cases of RHD are diagnosed in the chronic stages, when treatment options are limited. A small reservoir of cardiac stem cells is responsible for maintaining cardiac homeostasis and repairing tissue damage. Understanding the role of cardiac stem cells and the various proteins responsible for their functions in different pathological stages of RHD is an important area of investigation. Polycomb complex protein BMI-1 (Bmi1) and transcription activator BRG1 (BRG1) are associated with the maintenance of stemness in various types of stem cells. The present study investigated the role served by Bmi1 and BRG1 in cardiac stem cells during various pathological stages of RHD through immunohistochemistry and western blotting. A rat model of RHD was established via immunization with the Group A Streptococcus M5 protein. The rat was demonstrated to develop acute RHD 2 months after the final immunization, characterized by cardiac inflammation and tissue damage. Chronic RHD was identified 4 months after the final immunization, revealed by cardiac tissue compression and shrinkage. Expression of the cardiac stem cell marker mast/stem cell growth factor receptor kit was identified to be elevated during acute RHD, but downregulated in the chronic stages of RHD. A similar pattern of expression was revealed for Bmi1 and BRG1, indicating that they serve a role in regulating cardiac stem cell proliferation during acute RHD. Lung cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer-associated mortality worldwide. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the predominant type of lung cancer, and accounts for ~85% of all lung cancer cases. An increasing number of studies suggest that microRNAs (miRs) may be involved in the regulation of NSCLC carcinogenesis and progression. However, the expression and function of miRNA-219 in NSCLC, and its underlying mechanisms of action, remain unknown. In the present study, miR-219 expression in NSCLC tissues and cell lines was determined using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Following transfection with miR-219 mimics, the effects of miR-219 overexpression on NSCLC cell proliferation, migration and invasion were examined. Furthermore, the miR-219 target in NSCLC was investigated. miR-219 was observed to be downregulated in NSCLC tissues and NSCLC cell lines. In addition, miR-219 was demonstrated to function as a tumor suppressor in NSCLC, through inhibiting cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro. Furthermore, high mobility group AT-hook 2 (HMGA2) was identified to be a direct target of miR-219 in NSCLC, and downregulation of HMGA2 suppressed NSCLC cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro. HMGA2 expression was upregulated in NSCLC tissues, and was inversely correlated with miR-219 expression. In conclusion, miR-219 functions as a tumor suppressor and may be important in inhibiting the growth and metastasis of NSCLC cells via directly targeting HMGA2. We conducted the present study to investigate the effects of the different loading doses of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride in the prevention of adverse reactions after combined spinal-epidural anesthesia. A total of 200 patients that were admitted to the Department of Obstetrics at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University hospital and treated with cesarean section through the use of combined spinal-epidural anesthesia from December, 2014 to June, 2016, were randomly divided into 4 groups. The therapeutic regimens of patients were shown as follows: group A was administered an intravenous pump of 10 ml/l physiological saline in surgery until the end of the delivery. group B was administered 0.2 μg/kg dexmedetomidine. group C was administered 0.4 μg/kg dexmedetomidine. group D was administered 0.6 μg/kg dexmedetomidine. The anesthesia plane was adjusted to the level below the T10 plane. After the onset of anesthesia, participants of each group were treated with an intravenous pump of dexmedetomidine at loading dose. After intravenous pumping for 10 min in each group during the surgery, patients were administered with an intraoperative maintenance dose of 0.2 μg/kg/h until the end of the delivery. The heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), Narcotrend index (NI), Ramsay sedation score and the incidence of adverse reactions at each time-point of the start of drug administration (T0), 10 min (T2), 30 min (T3), 60 min (T4), 90 min (T5) and the end of surgery (T6) were recorded. Within 24 h post-delivery, the degree of amnesia from using dexmedetomidine until the end of the delivery were followed up. Compared to group A and T0, the HRs of participants at T3-6 in groups B and C were decreased. The MAP at T1 in group D was increased. In groups B and C, the NIs were significantly decreased at T2-6, the Ramsay scores were increased at T3-6, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The follow-up within 24 h after delivery showed that the degree of anterograde amnesia from groups B to D was significantly higher than group A, with statistically significant difference (P<0.05). A combined spinal-epidural anesthesia with 0.6 μg/kg loading dose of dexmedetomidine, by intravenous pumping within 10 min before cesarean section, can achieve a satisfied sedative effect at 30 min after administration. It maintains the characteristics of intraoperative hemodynamic stability and less adverse reactions. Therefore, it is of great significance to improve the quality of cesarean section delivery. The value of cone beam breast computed tomography (CBBCT) imaging on covered areas of breast tissue, which is the relation between imaging quality and CT dose were studied. Multi-energy spectrum was used to radiate same-size built-in calcifications and lump breast motifs under the condition of the same number of particles by utilizing the Monte Carlo-based GATE simulation software; breast motif images were restructured by using FBP restructuration algorithm to gain the distribution of radiation dose in the breast motif; radiation dose was calculated and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to define how quality factor η and dose efficiency q reflect the relations between radiation dose and imaging quality. Based on the comparison of the calcification number, diameter, and the diameter of tumor among head side, foot side, inner side, outer side and rear side, the difference was meaningless in terms of statistics. Based on the comparison between SNR and contrast-to-noise ratio and between dose efficiency q and quality factor η in different areas, the difference was not statistically significant. The present study aimed to investigate the potential involvement of specific T-cell subpopulations in granulation tissue formation in chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM). Fifteen patients with CSOM were enrolled in this study. Granulation tissues were obtained from the middle ear cavity. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed for histopathological observation, and different T-cell subpopulations were characterized by immunohistochemistry. No evident association was identified between granulation tissue formation and disease course. The number of cluster of differentiation 8+ (CD8+) T cells, forkhead box P3+ (FOXP3+) regulatory T (Treg) cells and OX40+ T cells were significantly higher in granulation tissues from patients with ear discharge within the last 6 months compared to those without (P<0.05). Fresh granulation tissues had more CD8+ T cells and FOXP3+ Treg cells compared to the mature granulation tissues (P<0.05). There was a differential abundance of specific T-cell subpopulations in the granulation tissues in CSOM with different disease courses or with ear discharge, suggesting that T cell-mediated cellular immunity is involved in lesion formation of CSOM. Abnormal activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway has a significant role in human tumorigenesis. The search for potential anticancer drugs has included widespread screening of inhibitors of the Wnt signaling pathway. Recently, one of the most common flavonoids, apigenin, demonstrated potential anti-tumor effects on multiple human cancer cell lines, with low cytotoxicity and no mutagenic activity. However, the association between apigenin and the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway remains to be elucidated. The results of wound healing and Transwell invasion assays revealed that apigenin was able to significantly suppress colorectal cancer cell proliferation, migration and invasion in a dose-dependent manner. An organoid culture assay revealed that apigenin was also able to suppress the growth of intestinal organoids. Furthermore, apigenin inhibited β-catenin/T-cell factor/lymphoid enhancer factor signaling activation, which was induced by LiCl in a dose-dependent manner. This inhibited β-catenin nuclear entry, and therefore the expression of Wnt downstream target genes. In conclusion, apigenin significantly suppressed colorectal cancer cell proliferation, migration, invasion and organoid growth by inhibiting the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. The aim of the present study was to investigate the optimal mobilization plan in autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation for the treatment of diabetic foot and to observe its clinical curative effect. A total of 127 patients with diabetic foot were treated with different doses of granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) to mobilize their hematopoietic stem cells. Subsequently, the extracted stem cell suspension was injected into the ischemic lower extremities along the blood vessels in the areas presenting with pathological changes. Following the treatment, the intermittent claudication distance, skin temperature, ankle brachial index and pain scores of the patients were evaluated. In addition, the associations among the mobilization time, doses and peripheral blood CD34+ level were analyzed. The collection efficiency of the stem cells was associated with the dose of G-CSF and the mobilization time. Following the injection of the autologous peripheral blood stem cell suspension, the ischemic area of the patients was improved significantly. In conclusion, autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation can promote the establishment of collateral circulation in patients with diabetic foot, and the optimal time for gathering stem cells is closely correlated with the peripheral blood CD34+ level. Previous studies have indicated that complex interactions among viral, environmental and genetic factors lead to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To identify susceptibility alleles for hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC, the present study conducted a pilot two-phase genome-wide association study (GWAS) in 660 Han Chinese individuals. In phase 1, a total of 500,447 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were genotyped in 50 HCC cases and 50 controls using Affymetrix GeneChip 500k Array Set. In phase 2, 1,152 SNPs were selected from phase 1 and genotyped in 282 cases and 278 controls using the Illumina GoldenGate platform. The prior probability of HCC in control subjects was assigned at 0.01, and false-positive report probability (FPRP) was utilized to evaluate the statistical significance. In phase 1, one SNP (rs2212522) showed a significant association with HCC (Pallele=5.23x10-8; ORallele=4.96; 95% CI, 2.72-9.03). In phase 2, among 27 SNPs with unadjusted Pallele<0.05, 9 SNPs were associated with HCC based on FPRP criteria (FPRP <0.20). The strongest statistical evidence for an association signal was with rs2120243 (combined ORallele=1.76; 95% CI, 1.39-2.22; P=2.00x10-6), which maps within the fourth intron of VEPH1. The second strongest statistical evidence for an association was identified for rs1350171 (combined ORallele=1.66; 95% CI, 1.33-2.07; P=6.48x10-6), which maps to the region downstream of the FZD4 gene. The other potential susceptibility genes included PCDH9, PRMT6, LHX1, KIF2B and L3MBTL4. In conclusion, this pilot two-phase GWAS provides the evidence for the existence of common susceptibility loci for HCC. These genes involved various signaling pathways, including those associated with transforming growth factor β, insulin/phosphoinositide 3 kinase, Wnt and epidermal growth factor receptor. The aim of this study was to investigate mutations of multidrug resistance 3 (MDR3) exons 9 and 23 in infants with parenteral nutrition-associated cholestasis (PNAC). A total of 41 infants with PNAC were enrolled in the study. Genomic DNA was extracted from the peripheral venous blood leukocytes of each patient and MDR3 exons 9 and 23 were amplified by polymerase chain reaction. One patient was identified who carried a frameshift mutation in MDR3 exon 23 (C.2793) that was caused by the insertion of a single adenine residue, while mutations were not found in MDR3 exon 23 in the other 40 patients. The clinical features of the patient with the MDR3 exon 23 frameshift mutation included high serum γ-glutamyl transferase levels, the absence of biliary dilatation and deformity in magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, and abnormal electrical capacitance tomography imaging of the liver. No mutations in MDR3 exon 9 were identified in any of the patients. All 41 PNAC patients recovered following oral ursodeoxycholic acid treatment. The calcitonin receptor (CTR) and receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL) have been found to be involved in the differentiation of osteoclasts. The association between the RANKL:osteoprotegerin (OPG) expression ratio and the pathogenesis of bone-destructive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been described in several joints, but the available data for the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are limited. The aim of the present study was to investigate the involvement of osteoclasts at sites of bone erosion by determining the CTR expression and the RANKL:OPG expression ratio in the TMJ in a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) model. Forty-eight male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups: Control group, injected with saline solution for 6 weeks; and CIA group, injected with emulsion. The RANKL and OPG mRNA expression was significantly increased in immunized rats compared with that in non-immunized rats. The RANKL:OPG expression ratio on the trabecular bone surface was 9.0 and 6.4 in the CIA group at weeks 4 and 6, respectively, while the RANKL:OPG expression ratio in the controls was 1.0:2. CTR mRNA expression was significantly upregulated in immunized rats compared with that in non-immunized rats; the level of CTR mRNA in the CTR-positive osteoclasts on the trabecular bone surface was 10.9- and 7.8-fold higher in the CIA rats than that in the control rats at weeks 4 and 6, respectively. In conclusion, focal bone destruction in an experimental model of arthritis in the TMJ can be attributed to cells expressing CTR, a defining feature of osteoclasts. The expression of RANKL and OPG mRNA within the inflamed synovium provides an insight into the mechanism of osteoclast differentiation and function at the border of bone erosion in arthritis. The present study aimed to investigate an optimal and feasible method for delineating the target volume of glandular breast tissue following breast-conserving surgery. A total of 15 patients who underwent radiotherapy following breast-conserving surgery were recruited into the study. Clinical target volume was delineated by the following three methods based on computed tomography (CT): Anatomical landmarks (CTVan), breast palpation (CTVpa) and CT scan images (CTVgl). The target volume, degree of inclusion (DI) and conformal index (CI) defined by these methods were compared. The difference was significant between CTVan and CTVgl, and CTVpa and CTVgl (P<0.0001). The CI between CTVan and CTVpa was 0.644±0.122, significantly higher than that between CTVan and CTVgl (0.264±0.108; P<0.0001) or between CTVpa and CTVgl (0.328±0.115; P<0.0001). The DI of CTVpa in CTVan was 0.890±0.08 and the opposite was 0.709±0.144, while that of DI of CTVgl in CTVan or CTVpa was 0.994±0.005 and 0.989±0.008, respectively. The boundary difference between CTVan and CTVpa was 3.35±7.23, 5.57±13.37, 1.75±11.62 and 11.25±4.07 mm for the medial, lateral, cephalic and caudal boundaries, respectively. A significant difference was observed in the target volume of the breast defined by the three methods. The target volume defined by CTVgl was significantly smaller than that identified by the other two methods. Overall, the combination of palpation marks and anatomical landmarks to define the contouring scope of the breast was indicated to be a relatively rational method for delineating the target volume of the breast. Studies have suggested that salicylate affects neuronal function via interactions with specific membrane channels/receptors. However, the effect of salicylate on activity and synaptic morphology of the hippocampal Cornu Ammonis (CA) 1 area remains to be elucidated. The activation of immediate-early genes (IEGs) was reported to correlate with neuronal activity, in particular activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein and early growth response gene 1. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the expression of these IEGs, as well that of N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor subunit 2B in rats following acute and chronic salicylate treatment. Protein and messenger RNA levels of all three genes were increased in rats following chronic administration of salicylate (300 mg/kg for 10 days), returning to baseline levels 14 days post-cessation of treatment. The transient upregulation of gene expression following treatment was accompanied by ultrastructural alterations in hippocampal CA1 area synapses. An increase in synaptic interface curvature was observed as well as an increased number of presynaptic vesicles; in addition, postsynaptic densities thickened and lengthened. In conclusion, the results of the present study indicated that chronic exposure to salicylate may lead to structural alteration of hippocampal CA1 neurons, and it was suggested that this process occurs through induced expression of IEGs via NMDA receptor activation. Matrine is a widely used Chinese herbal medicine that has historically been used in the treatment of inflammation and cancer. However, the antimetastatic effects and associated molecular mechanisms of matrine on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remain to be elucidated. Therefore, the aims of the present study were to assess the antimetastatic effects of matrine on NPC, and identify the underlying mechanisms. Matrine inhibited the proliferation of NPC cells in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, matrine inhibited the migration and invasion of NPC tumor cells at doses below the toxic range. Following treatment with matrine for 24 h, there was a decrease in the protein expression levels and activities of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 in NPC-039 cells. In addition, matrine markedly reduced the expression levels of p65 and p50 in the nuclei. Combined treatment of matrine with helenalin, a nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) inhibitor resulted in a synergistic reduction in MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression levels, and the invasive capabilities of the NPC-039 cells were also reduced. In conclusion, matrine inhibits NPC cell migration and invasion by suppressing the NF-κB pathway. These results suggest that matrine may be a potential therapeutic agent for NPC. The aim of the present pilot study was to assess the feasibility and efficacy of Cetrotide administration in the early luteal phase in patients at high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), undergoing embryo cryopreservation following superovulation. A total of 135 patients at high risk of OHSS and undergoing embryo cryopreservation were divided into two groups. In the treatment group (n=39), the patients received daily subcutaneous injections of 0.25 mg Cetrotide between days 1 and 5 following ooctye retrieval, and volume expansion and symptomatic treatment were also provided. In the control group (n=96), the patients received routine treatments, including volume expansion therapy. The serum steroid hormone concentrations of the patients were measured on days 2, 5 and 8 following ooctye retrieval, while the incidence of moderate or severe OHSS, self-evaluated clinical symptoms and various clinical indicators were recorded. The serum estradiol (E2), luteinizing hormone and progesterone levels in the treatment group on days 2, 5 and 8 following oocyte retrieval were not found to differ significantly when compared with the patients in the control group (P>0.05). The incidence of severe OHSS did not differ significantly between the two groups (P>0.05). The average length of hospital stay and length of luteal phase were not found to be significantly different between the treatment and control groups (P>0.05). In conclusion, Cetrotide injections in the early luteal phase did not alter the serum steroid levels of patients at high risk of OHSS undergoing embryo cryopreservation, and were unable to reduce the incidence of severe early OHSS. The aim of our study was to elucidate the effect of tacrolimus (FK506) and of C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4), which is a receptor specific to the stromal cell-derived factor-1α (SDF-1α), on growth and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Following treatment with different concentrations of FK506, AMD3100 or normal saline (NS), the proliferation of Morris rat hepatoma 3924A (MH3924A) cells was measured by the MTT assay, the expression of CXCR4 was analyzed with immunohistochemistry, and the morphological changes and the invasiveness of cells were studied with a transwell assay and under a scanning electron microscope, respectively. In addition, August Copenhagen Irish rat models implanted with tumor were used to examine the pathological changes and invasiveness of tumor in vivo, the expression of CXCR4 in tumor tissues and the expression of SDF-1α in the adjacent tissues to the HCC ones, using immunohistochemistry. In vitro, FK506 (100-1,000 μg/l) significantly promoted the proliferation of MH3924A cells (P<0.01), and increased the expression of CXCR4 in MH3924A cells, albeit with no significance (P>0.05). By contrast, AMD3100 had no effect on the proliferation of MH3924A cells, but significantly reduced the expression of CXCR4 (P<0.05). The invasiveness of MH3924A cells was significantly (P<0.01) enhanced following treatment with FK506, SDF-1α, FK506 + AMD3100, FK506 + SDF-1α or FK506 + AMD3100 + SDF-1α. In vivo, tumor weight (P=0.041), lymph node metastasis (P=0.002), the number of pulmonary nodules (P=0.012), the expression of CXCR4 in tumor tissues (P=0.048) and that of SDF-1α in adjacent tissues (P=0.026) were significantly different between the FK506-treated and the NS group. Our results suggest that FK506 promotes the proliferation of MH3924A cells and the expression of CXCR4 and SDF-1α in vivo. Therefore, inhibiting the formation of the CXCR4/SDF-1α complex may partly reduce the promoting effect of FK506 on HCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To the best of our knowledge, no Chinese case studies concerning Nocardia infection have been published to date. Therefore, the present study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the risk factors, clinical features, imaging results, laboratory abnormalities, treatments and outcomes of nocardiosis in a Chinese tertiary hospital. Data collected from patients with laboratory-confirmed nocardiosis were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 40 patients who had a positive culture of Nocardia were included. The median time between the onset of symptoms and diagnosis was 42 days. Underlying diseases were identified in 72.5% of the patients of which diabetes was the most common (32.5%). The most important risk factor was corticosteroid administration. Fever and cough were common clinical symptoms. The pleuropulmonary (85%) were the most frequently involved sites and the disseminated disease rate was 30.0%. Frequent chest computed tomography scans revealed the presence of airspace opacities, nodules and masses, in addition to cavitary lesions that were particularly common among the study group. Brain images revealed lesions associated with abscesses. The majority of the patients (71.1%) were treated with trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole alone or in combination with other drugs. The in-hospital mortality rate was 15.0%. Disseminated disease, immunocompromised patients, an older age, brain involvement and concomitant infections were associated with a poor prognosis. Nocardiosis is an uncommon but emerging disease. The present study reports the first case series on nocardiosis from China and provides important information on the clinical features and risk factors of nocardiosis. The current report describes the case of a 29-year-old female with a sacral giant cell tumor (GCT) during pregnancy. Originally, the patient presented with severe pain in the lumbo-sacral region, radiating posterolaterally from the lumbar spine into the bilateral thigh and subsequently, into the bilateral crus posterolaterally. Plain X-rays, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed osteoly tic destruction of the sacrococcygeal bones and a huge soft-tissue mass with features of a chordoma. The patient underwent a partial en bloc sacrectomy (partial S1 and completely below) and curettage for tumors located at the sacroiliac joint and underlying left ilium, with bilateral internal iliac arteries ligated to control intraoperative hemorrhage. The patient's bilateral S2 nerve roots were killed. The diagnosis of conventional GCT was determined based on the histopathological examination of the resected specimen.
