Addition of citric acid in the food as an additive in food and beverages is responsible for the development of pleasant taste and tart flavor. It also finds applications as a function of additive detergents, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and toiletries. About 64% of U.S. citric acid usage in 2004 was for foods and beverages, 22% for detergents and cleaning products and 10% for pharmaceutical and nutritional products. Effective utilization of agro waste is very vital for keeping the ecology safe. Scientific papers shout the significance of the potential found in the agro wastes for producing diverse economically important products such as citric acid. Bagasse is an agro waste produced in massive quantity in Tutricorin and Tirunelveli District through the year. Improper disposal of these waste masquerade serious threats for water bodies and finally the biological society. The bagasse was used in treated and untreated form at selected percentage such as 3, 4, 5 and 6 in sucrose media with methanol as growth periodical assessment of citric acid and reducing sugar was done at 2 days regular interval for a period of 10 days following Pyridine-Acetic anhydride method and DNS method respectively.
