The water opossum, Chironectes minimus, is perhaps one of the most cryptic marsupials in the Neotropics. Even though it has specific presence records throughout its distribution, its reports are scarce in ecosystems surrounding peri-urban areas. In this contribution, we report a new locality for the species to the southeast of the Aburrá Valley, Antioquia, Colombia. From the analysis of the activity patterns, it was identified that the species shows a nocturnal activity trend, mainly between 19h00 and 00h00. Regarding to the review and analysis of its altitudinal distribution, even though there are records at different altitudinal ranges, records above 2.000 masl are scarce. Here we report a record at 2.660 masl and corroborate one at 2.562 masl in the study area. Likewise, from the review, we highlight the highest altitude record at 2.800 masl, which would expand its current range., La Chucha de Agua, Chironectes minimus, es quizás uno de los marsupiales más crípticos en el Neotrópico. A pesar de que cuenta con registros puntuales sobre su presencia a lo largo de su distribución, sus reportes son escasos en ecosistemas circundantes a zonas periurbanas. Aquí reportamos una nueva localidad de presencia para la especie al suroriente del Valle de Aburrá, Antioquia, Colombia. A partir de análisis de los patrones actividad, se identificó que la especie presentó una tendencia nocturna, principalmente entre las 19h00 y las 00h00. Con respecto a la revisión y sobre su distribución altitudinal, a pesar de que existen registros a diferentes intervalos altitudinales, los registros sobre los 2.000 msnm son escasos. Reportamos un registro a 2.660 msnm y corroboramos uno a 2.562 msnm en el área de estudio. Igualmente, a partir de la revisión resaltamos el registro de mayor altitud a 2.800 msnm el cual ampliaría su rango actual.

Here we document evidence of the possible consumption of a porcupine (Coendou sp.) By an Ocelot in a montane forest southwest of Antioquia, Colombia. Esto representa un registro notable en cuanto a un nuevo ítem alimentario (Coendou sp.) en la dieta del Ocelote en zonas de alta montaña en Colombia. La localidad de los registros está ubicada a 2.100 msnm en la Cordillera Occidental, en la Reserva Natural La MeseniaParamillo, del municipio de Jardín, al suroeste de Antioquia

Here we document new records on the sympatry of these two species in habitats surrounding the urban areas of the southern Aburrá Valley (Antioquia), one of the main urban centers of Colombia (Delgado-V 2007). Based on these and other records, we estimate their potential distributions based on ecological niche models and point out the areas of possible sympathy in other areas of the country., Aquí documentamos nuevos registros sobre la simpatría de estas dos especies en hábitats circundantes a las zonas urbanas del sur del Valle de Aburrá (Antioquia), uno de los principales centros urbanos de Colombia (Delgado-V 2007). Con base en estos y otros registros, estimamos sus distribuciones potenciales con base en modelos de nicho ecológico y señalamos las áreas de posible simpatría en otras zonas del país.

The Puma or Mountain Lion (Puma concolor) is the second largest species of feline in America. It is distributed from Canada to Patagonia and due to its great ecological plasticity it can be found in a wide variety of habitats such as deserts, savannahs and humid forests, from sea level to 5000 meters above sea level, being the main predator in mountain ecosystems, especially above 2000 meters above sea level (Nowell and Jackson 1996, De Angelo et al. 2009). However, human activities such as the expansion of the agricultural-livestock frontier, and the expansion and development of urban centers (which are becoming increasingly larger and more complex), are increasingly fragmenting and threatening the natural habitats available for this and other species (Arias-Alzate et al. 2011, Arias-Alzate et al. 2013, González-Maya et al. 2013, Laundre, & Hernandez 2010). Species such as carnivores (Mammalia: Carnivora) with wide distributions and low population densities are the most sensitive and vulnerable to the processes of fragmentation and habitat loss (Noss et al. 1996; Crook 2002; Gittleman et al. 2001, Riley et al. al. 2003)., El Puma o León de Montaña (Puma concolor) es la segunda especie de felino más grande en América. Se distribuye desde Canadá hasta la Patagonia y debido a su gran plasticidad ecológica puede encontrarse en una gran variedad de hábitats como desiertos, sabanas y bosques húmedos, desde el nivel del mar hasta los 5000 msnm, siendo el principal depredador en ecosistemas de montaña, especialmente sobre los 2000 msnm (Nowell and Jackson 1996, De Angelo et al. 2009). No obstante, las actividades humanas como la ampliación de la frontera agrícola-ganadera, y la expansión y desarrollo de los centros urbanos (los cuales se hacen cada vez más grandes y complejos), están fragmentando y amenazando cada vez más los hábitats naturales disponibles para esta y otras especies (Arias-Alzate et al. 2011, Arias-Alzate et al. 2013, González-Maya et al. 2013, Laundre, & Hernandez 2010). Especies como los carnívoros (Mammalia: Carnivora) con amplias distribuciones y bajas densidades poblacionales, son los más sensibles y vulnerables a los procesos de fragmentación y pérdida de hábitats (Noss et al. 1996; Crook 2002; Gittleman et al. 2001, Riley et al. 2003).

The pacarana Dinomys branickii (Peters 1873), is the second largest rodent in Colombia and the only living representative of the Dinomyidae family. The species has a restricted distribution to the Andes Mountains., La guagua loba, Dinomys branickii (Peters 1873), es el segundo roedor más grande de Colombia y la única representante viviente de la familia Dinomyidae. La especie presenta una distribución restringida a la Cordillera de los Andes.
