The article provides information on a research about the reaction of the press and the political representatives in the Slovenian parliament upon the arrival of foreigners or illegal immigrants during the immigration crisis in 2000-2001. Results show that discriminatory practices exist in the media and political discourses during the time period. Moreover, it notes that threat to slovenianhood and legitimation of reforms in legislation result to lowered standard of treatment of immigrants.

The article focuses on how the people in Slovenia view the issue regarding illegal immigrants and immigration as a whole. A public opinion poll revealed that Slovenians have a negative stance toward defined foreigner groups, particularly the immigrants from Yugoslavia, non-European countries, South Africa, and East Asia. It states that print media and political representatives both establish discriminatory practices against immigrants including homogenization and criminalization of foreigners.
