The presence of the ApoE4 allele interferes with human Amyloid-Beta (Aβ) clearance and reduces the neuronal damage response, which, in turn, is associated with increased Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) risk. Identifying individuals with the highest genetic risk may aid clinical AD diagnosis and prognosis. However, to the best of our knowledge, no previous study has performed blood-based analysis of ApoE polymorphisms and human Aβ in individuals undergoing health checkups. Here, we aimed to investigate ApoE genotypes and Aβ levels according to the age and sex of individuals undergoing health checkups using real-time polymerase chain reaction. For ApoE genotyping and human Aβ analysis, data from 423 human Aβ samples, within the 95% confidence interval, were analyzed. The Aβ levels increased and decreased with age in female and male individuals with the ApoE genotype E4, respectively. Our study provides age and sex-based ApoE genotype and Aβ data for healthy adults, highlighting the importance of ApoE4 and Aβ as predictors of AD risk and elucidating differences according to age and sex. Our study provides details on the genetic background of AD and thus, might aid in improving the efficiency of AD diagnosis.

Ureaplasma infections are frequently underestimated due to potential inaccuracies in data collection from symptomatic patients. This study aimed to accurately assess the prevalence of Ureaplasma Urealyticum (UU) and Ureaplasma Parvum (UP) infections among outpatients aged 0-70 years in South Korea between 2018 and 2020. A total of 59,381 clinical samples, including swabs and urine specimens, were collected and analyzed using multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction, for identifying UU and UP infections. The study revealed a significant prevalence of UU and UP infections, with 8,486 (14.2%) and 10,660 (17.9%) cases, respectively. The highest positive rates were observed among individuals aged 20-29 years. Notably, in women, infection rates with UP were substantially higher than with UU. Co-infections with both UU and UP were detected in 291 men and 612 women who tested positive for Ureaplasma infections. These findings underscore the elevated risk of Ureaplasma transmission in both adult and infant populations, highlighting the importance of understanding and addressing this often underestimated public health concern. This study contributes valuable data on Ureaplasma infections in the South Korean population, shedding light on their prevalence and distribution, which can further inform public health interventions.

This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic biomarker potential of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and Procalcitonin (PCT) levels in the serum of individuals infected with the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). The patients were divided into two age groups: Younger (<60 years) and older (≥60 years). An Electrochemiluminescence Immunoassay (ECLIA) platform was employed for the serological analysis to quantify the biomarker levels. A retrospective analysis was conducted on a cohort of HBV-infected patients and serum samples were collected from 200 individuals infected with HBV as well as from healthy controls. ECLIA revealed significantly increased levels of the pro-inflammatory markers CRP and PCT in both younger and older HBV-infected patients compared with those for participants in the healthy controls (p<0.0001). Importantly, the serum CRP and PCT levels were independent of age and sex. These findings provide evidence for increased serum CRP and PCT levels following HBV infection, indicating a potential correlation between these biomarkers and HBV infection. Thus, this study demonstrates the promising clinical diagnostic significance of CRP and PCT in HBV infections when assessed using ECLIA.
