A 7.5 years girl presented with myoclonic jerks with prolonged duration coming progressively at shorter intervals for last six moinths. There was declining academic performances. The dystonic, dyskinetic movements and ataxia were there for last three months. The stages were progressing too rapidly. IgG antibody titre to measles virus was found to be positive with EEG changes which confirms diagnosis. SSPE at so early age with atypical presentation is unique in this indexed case. The authors report an 11-month-old boy with Menkes kinky hair disease who presented with global delay in acquiring milestones and repeated myoclonic jerks. He had scanty, hypopigmented scalp hairs with steely wool-like texture and intervening zones of alopecia. There was low serum ceruloplasmin (5 mg/dL) and copper (24.2 μg/dL). Neuroimaging of the brain revealed marked cerebral atrophy and significant delayed myelination. Magnetic resonance angiography showed tortuous cerebral and neck blood vessels. This article presents cases in which gabapentin appeared to be the cause of myoclonic jerks and troublesome tremor. Neuropathic pain is often difficult to treat and may be refractory to routine analgesic measures, including opioid therapy. Gabapentin has been used in the management of neuropathic cancer pain as an opioid sparing agent, thus decreasing the risk of adverse opioid effects. Gabapentin appears to be effective in treating various neuropathic disorders and may have advantages over current therapies, such as a favorable safety profile and lack of drug interactions.
