- Abstract
The article examines a paper entitled “Grappling with peace,” which was written by Canadian senator Hugh Segal and appeared in a previous issue of “International Journal.” Within this paper, Segal referenced arguments made by former Canadian diplomat John Homes concerning peace diplomacy. The author urges that Holmes was offering a comment concerning peace research, not commenting upon diplomacy, treaties, or wordsmithing, as attested by Segal. The author goes on to discuss treaty negotiations, the role of military force, and the postulations of academic James Eayrs, who was a contemporary of John Holmes.
