Because of the availability of a variety of new medications and therapies, patients with cystic fibrosis are living longer, and many are living well into their adult years. Cystic fibrosis is no longer known as a childhood disease. Intravenous antibiotics at home rather than in the hospital are much more common for pulmonary exacerbations or "tune ups." Home care nurses help families and patients care for their central line and instruct on how to administer the IV antibiotics. This article will address some of the new medications and therapies in relation to the home care setting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
