Stemming intimate partner violence among adults demands earlier education and skill-building supportive of healthy youth and young adult dating relationships. The current U.S.-based study examines a spectrum of youth and young adult relationship dynamics (RDs), inclusive of abusive interactions. In a nationally representative cohort of youth aged 10–18 at baseline and one parent or caregiver, survey responses regarding RDs from 618 participants ages 15–23 at wave 5 follow-up were analyzed. Latent class analysis of four positive dynamics, six problematic dynamics, and three scales of adolescent relationship abuse (ARA) were estimated, yielding four latent profiles of dating RDs. Relationships characterized by Unhealthy and Intense RDs both exhibited high probability of ARA but differed from each other in terms of other positive and problematic dynamics. Relationships characterized by Disengaged RDs had lower probability of ARA but elevated probability of awkward communications, negative feelings, social liability, and other challenging dynamics. Several baseline covariates were significantly associated with profiles of dating RDs approximately 5 years later. Younger participants were more likely to subsequently fall in an Intense or Disengaged RDs profile, as were participants with baseline emotional health problems. Further, classification in the Unhealthy RDs profile was less likely for participants reporting a better baseline relationship with their parents and more likely for those exposed to violence in childhood. These findings suggest that in addition to developmental maturity, youth and young adults would benefit from closer investigation and processing of past emotional and relational issues and traumas to foster healthier dating relationships. A high-speed-level gear transmission system model of a wind turbine is presented considering a time-varying wind load and an electromagnetic torque disturbance, along with eccentricity, dynamic backlash, and friction force. The auto-regressive model is employed for simulating the time-varying wind load in the realistic wind field as external excitation. A doubly fed induction generator model of the wind turbine is established to calculate the disturbance quantity of electromagnetic torque. The nonlinear differential equations of the system are strictly deduced using Lagrange equation and solved by the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. The effect of friction on the dynamic response of the high-speed-level gear transmission system is analyzed with the time-varying wind load and the electromagnetic torque disturbance. These results show that the friction force is critical because frequency amplitude and components can be changed by it. The friction force also enlarges vibration displacement. The low-frequency components in the vertical direction are affected gravely by the friction force without electrical disturbance. In addition, sidebands exist in the vicinity of the low-frequency parts as the electromagnetic torque disturbance appears at the output end. The amplitude of the low-frequency component is further increased because of electromagnetic torque disturbance. This shows the frequency characteristics of the slight gear system fault. Law enforcement officers' health and wellness is important at the individual and community levels in terms of maintaining a fit workforce to uphold the mission of public safety. The current study was designed to assess officer wellness across the U.S. From a nationally representative random sample of 1,135 local and state agencies, a random, probability-based sample of officers was selected, oversampling for female officers. Latent class analyses were conducted to assess wellness profiles based on a set of eleven physical, psychological, and behavioral health indicators for 2,232 officers. Personal and professional characteristics were included as auxiliary variables in models of the resulting classes. Results from this sample indicated that over two-thirds of officers fit a healthy profile, whereas one in four officers presents with moderate health concerns and nearly 6% are classified in a profile of broad health concerns. In this sample, sexual assault in childhood, greater exposure to critical incidents, working a current rotation schedule, and being female were characteristics associated with broad health concerns. Emotional and/or physical assault in childhood, greater exposure to critical incidents, and being female were characteristics associated with moderate health concerns, whereas older age and being Hispanic were protective factors. In sum, full-time sworn law enforcement officers across the U.S. are reasonably healthy but their exposures to stressful situations put them at increased risk particularly in terms of post-traumatic stress, risky drinking, and suicidality. This study examines whether online sexual harassment (SH) is a unique form of behavior, separate and apart from in-person SH. Data were drawn from the National Survey on Teen Relationships and Intimate Violence (STRiV), a national representative household survey focused on youth interpersonal aggression. A weighted sample of 1,184 youth (12-21 years old) completed a baseline and a follow-up survey 1 year later. Through latent class analysis (LCA), we investigate our first research question of whether there are distinct classes/profiles of mutually exclusive online or in-person SH victims or whether they mostly overlap. Second, does there exist a high-rate group of SH victims who experience most of the SH behaviors both in-person and online? Third, what individual characteristics and behaviors, based on past research, are associated with these identified profiles of SH? LCA did not reveal an in-person-only or online-only SH class. The majority of the sample (78.5%) were represented in a Low/Near Zero SH class; 15.3% in a Sexual Orientation Harassment class suffering sexual orientation–related verbal harassment online and in-person; 4.2% in a Verbal SH class suffering verbal sexual comments, being forced to talk about sex, and being shown sexual pictures in-person and online; and 1.9% in a High SH class featured by a high probability of experiencing all online and in-person forms of SH. Biological sex, attitudes, anger, previous violence exposure, and gender stereotyping each predicted at least one latent class. The findings can help inform the design of more effective interventions to prevent SH, highlighting the overlapping nature of in-person and online SH. Prevention efforts designed to address in-person SH need to also consider online SH and vice versa. Initial symptoms of paraquat (PQ) toxicity are often not obvious, and the lack of advanced testing equipment and medical conditions in the primary hospital make it difficult to provide early diagnosis and timely treatment. To explore simple, objective, and effective indicators of prognosis for primary clinicians, we retrospectively analyzed acute PQ poisoning in 190 patients admitted to our hospital from 2008 to 2017. Based on their condition at the time of discharge, patients were categorized into either the survival group (n = 71) or the mortality group (n = 119). Age, PQ ingested amount, urinary PQ, urinary protein, white blood cell (WBC), and serum creatinine (Cr) were the key factors associated with the prognosis for PQ poisoning. We identified specific diagnostic thresholds for these key indicators of PQ poisoning: PQ ingested amount (36.50 mL), urinary PQ (semiquantitative result "++"), urinary protein (semiquantitative result "±"), WBC (16.50 × 109/L), and serum Cr (102.10 µmol/L). Combining these five indicators to identify poisoning outcomes was considered objective, accurate, and convenient. When the combined score was <1, the predicted probability of patient death was 6%. When the combined score was ≥3, the predicted probability of patient death was 96%. A series of polyimide/polyacrylonitrile (PI/PAN) blend fibers with different PAN weight ratios were prepared through a two-step wet-spinning method and stabilization process and then were carbonized at 1500°C under high-purity nitrogen atmosphere, yielding in PI/PAN-derived carbon fibers. The effects of PAN content on the structures of the PI/PAN blend fibers were systematically investigated. The elemental composition, aggregation structure, carbon yields, and electrical properties of the PI/PAN-derived carbon fibers were also analyzed. The imidization degree and molecular orientation of the PI/PAN blend fibers increased first and then decreased with increasing PAN content, which directly affect the aggregation structures and properties of the corresponding PI/PAN-derived carbon fibers. As a consequence, the carbon fibers derived from PI/PAN-35% exhibited perfect graphite structure with a planar spacing d002 of 0.349 nm, high carbon content of 97.14%, and low electrical resistivity of 1.89 × 10−5 Ω·m, attributing to the high degree of orientation along the fiber axis and low value of φa/φc in the PI/PAN blend fibers. Using correctional officer data from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (NLEOMF) database, we describe the characteristics of U.S. correctional officers killed in line of duty in the past decade, and explore how the hazard probability changed over the life span and factors related to these changes. Survival analysis results show that several demographic characteristics were significantly related to changes in hazard probabilities. Study results provided the most recent statistics on profiles of U.S. correctional officers killed in line of duty. There has been limited investigation of mothers’ drinking patterns and their experience of domestic abuse while parenting young children, especially in the context of co-resident fathers’ drinking. Using data representative of the 2001 U.S. birth cohort, the authors conducted longitudinal latent class analyses of maternal drinking over four perinatal time points as predictors of maternal victimization at 2 years postpartum due to intimate partner violence. Women classified as higher risk drinkers over the study period faced significantly increased risk of physical abuse while parenting a 2-year-old child. Avian coccidios, caused by Eimeria, has been shown to cause weight loss and bloody diarrhoea, and sometimes even death of chicks, which subsequently has a serious negative impact on the development of the poultry industry. Berberine is a Chinese traditional medicine for intestinal disorders, which has been shown to have preventive effects on intestinal epithelium that has been exposed to external damage. In the present study, anticoccidial activity of berberine was tested in vivo using Eimeria tenella, on its effects on daily weight gain, bloody diarrhoea, oocyst production, thickness and lesions of caecum. The data confirmed that infected chicks with Eimeria tenella started to show classic clinical symptoms on day 4-5 post-infection, such as ruffled feathers, bloody diarrhoea and reduced weight gain. There was significant reduction in oocyst production of berberine treated chicks except those infected by oocysts pretreated with berberine. The caecum epithelia thickness and lesions were significantly higher in the infected/untreated chicks than those in uninfected/untreated and infected/treated chicks. The results of this study indicate that continuous prophylactic treatment with berberine significantly improved the pathogenic conditions. It is concluded, that berberine is likely to work through preventing caecum epithelium barrier damage from Eimeria tenella by suppressing the reproduction of Eimeria tenella and restoring the normal functions of chicks' caecum. Sexual harassment continues to be a consistent destructive feature of American life and workplaces, especially in fields for which women are under-represented, such as law enforcement. We use one of the first nationally representative cross-sectional surveys (n = 2,867) of female and male law enforcement officers (LEOs) to assess the prevalence of workplace sexual harassment victimization. Next, we assess how risk factors are related to this harassment through multivariable modeling. We observed large differences between rates of sexual harassment for female compared to male officers on both our measures of non-physical and physical workplace sexual harassment (sexual assault). Our combined measure of non-physical sexual harassment and sexual assault of female officers (71%) was in the range found in prior research and our 41% rate for male officers is also not trivial and requires attention from law enforcement leaders. We tested two competing hypotheses on whether female officers (and possibly some male officers not meeting certain definitions of masculinity) viewed as the most threatening by virtue of their job role in the male-dominated hierarchy will have the highest probability of being a victim of workplace sexual harassment (power-threat model) or whether those viewed as the most vulnerable officers will have the highest probability of sexual harassment victimization (vulnerable-victim model). We found greater support for the vulnerable-victim model. A novel synthesis route for telithromycin was developed based on a 11,12-cylic carbonate protection strategy to prevent formation of 9,12-hemiacetal by-product. 4-[4-(3-pyridinyl)imidazol-1-yl]-1-butylamine, the side chain of telithromycin, is used for the synthesis of novel ketolide antibiotics. The key step in synthesising 4-[4-(3-pyridinyl)imidazol-1-yl]-1-butylamine involves the HBr-induced DMSO oxidation of 3-acetylpyridine to 3-pyridylglyoxal, which was not isolated but transformed directly into 4-(3-pyridyl)imidazole by a Debus reaction with ammonia and formaldehyde. Acetylation of D-glucosamine catalysed by sulfuric acid and N-phthaloylation of the glucosyl acetate yielded 1,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-2-deoxy-2-phthalimido-α-D-glucopyranose. This gave the corresponding pure β-glucosyl chloride upon treatment with PCl5-BF3.
