Background: Traumatic thoracolumbar spine injuries are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Targeted for non-spine specialist trauma surgeons, this systematic scoping review aimed to examine literature for up-to-date evidence on presentation, management, and outcomes of thoracolumbar spine injuries in adult trauma patients. Methods: This review was reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses checklist. We searched four bibliographic databases: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. Eligible studies included experimental, observational, and evidence-synthesis articles evaluating patients with thoracic, lumbar, or thoracolumbar spine injury, published in English between January 1, 2010 and January 31, 2021. Studies which focused on animals, cadavers, cohorts with N <30, and pediatric cohorts (age <18 years old), as well as case studies, abstracts, and commentaries were excluded. Results: A total of 2501 studies were screened, of which 326 unique studies were fully text reviewed and twelve aspects of injury management were identified and discussed: injury patterns, determination of injury status and imaging options, considerations in management, and patient quality of life. We found: (1) imaging is a necessary diagnostic tool, (2) no consensus exists for preferred injury characterization scoring systems, (3) operative management should be considered for unstable fractures, decompression, and deformity, and (4) certain patients experience significant burden following injury. Discussion: In this systematic scoping review, we present the most up-to-date information regarding the management of traumatic thoracolumbar spine injuries. This allows non-specialist trauma surgeons to become more familiar with thoracolumbar spine injuries in trauma patients and provides a framework for their management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Early catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT) for lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (LEDVT) can reduce post-thrombotic morbidity and the AngioJet thrombectomy is a new therapy that can be selected for the treatment of LEDVT. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials comparing AngioJet versus CDT to assess the efficacy and safety of AngioJet thrombectomy. We systematically searched PubMed and Embase for clinical trials that published before November 1, 2020 and compared AngioJet thrombectomy and CDT in the treatment of LEDVT. We meta-analyzed effective rate of treatment, serious complications, PTS, Villalta score, duration of treatment and drug dose. AngioJet does not result in a significant difference in the effective rate (OR 1.00, CI 0.73-1.36, P = 0.98; I2 = 0%) and complications (OR 1.16 CI 0.84-1.61, P = 0.36; I2 = 39%) compare to CDT. And there was a statistically significant decrease in incidence of PTS (OR 0.58 CI 0.37-0.91, P = 0.02; I2 = 0%) and Villalta score (OR −1.86 CI −3.49 to −0.24, P = 0.02; I2 = 34%) for AngioJet compared to CDT. In addition, there was a statistically significant decrease in duration of the treatment (OR −2.45 CI −2.75 to −2.15, P < 0.0001; I2 = 95%) and drug dose (OR −3.15 CI −3.38 to −2.93, P < 0.0001; I2 = 98%) between AngioJet and CDT. AngioJet results in a low severity of PTS compared to CDT therapy. Moreover, the average duration of treatment and thrombolysis time was shorter in the AngioJet group compared to the CDT group. Motivation: A series of Eu2+ (0.0025≤ × ≤0.025) activated Sr2SiO4:xEu2+ (SSO:xEu2+) phosphors were synthesized via a sol-gel method. The phosphors were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The differences between α' and β phase of SSO in the density of states and energy band gap were investigated. Results: The energy gap of α'-SSO and β-SSO are 4.489 and 4.106 eV, respectively. While, two samples showed similar total and partial densities of states. Under the excitation by the ultra violet (UV) light (365 nm), the SSO: xEu2+ phosphor exhibited a green emission band from 400 to 700 nm, which was corresponding to the transition of 5d → 4f of Eu2+ ions. Two emission peaks at 464 and 532 nm could be obtained through Gauss fitting curves. The ratio of the blue to green emission peak decreased with the Eu2+ concentration and the peaks shifted regularly with it. The thermal quenching property was investigated and its activation energy was calculated. The results indicated that this phosphor could be a candidate of green phosphor for UV-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Motivation: A suite of MBPO5 (borophosphates-BPO):Eu3+ (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) red emitting phosphors were synthesized and their luminescent properties were studied by excitation and emission spectra. Results: The energy gap of CBPO, SBPO and BBPO are 5.481, 5.498 and 5.604 eV, respectively. While, these samples showed similar total and partial densities of states. The x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) patterns indicated that the samples were simple MPBO5 phase. According to the absorption spectra, the band gap energies of CBPO:Eu3+, SBPO: Eu3+ and BBPO:Eu3+ were calculated to be 5.499, 5.516 and 5.659 eV, respectively. The spectra of all three MBPO5:Eu3+ samples were similar with main excitation and emission peaks at 394 nm and 594 nm, respectively. The concentration quenching did not appear with the increase of the concentration of Eu3+. The charge compensator can improve the emission intensity. The average decay time of CBPO:0.05Eu3+, SBPO:0.05Eu3+ and BBPO:0.05Eu3+ was 3.29, 2.54, and 3.15 ms, respectively. The above results suggested that this phosphor was qualified as red phosphor, which could be used as a near UV-based white LED. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
