Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is utilized as an adjunctive treatment for human and veterinary patients with compromised tissues. Medical records from two veterinary hospitals with HBOT chambers were searched for small animal veterinary dentistry and oral surgery specialty patients. The HBOT records were combined with the medical records from the referring specialty veterinary dentistry and oral surgery services. Clinical indications for HBOT treatments associated with a positive outcome in this case series included resistant bacterial infections, electrical cord injury, bite wound injuries, osteomyelitis, crush/traumatic injuries including mandibular fractures, oral surgery performed at previously irradiated sites, and osteonecrosis, presumably radiation induced. Conditions within this case series that remained unchanged or were associated with partial improvement included preoperative treatment of stomatitis without steroid usage and delayed HBOT treatment for long-term endodontic health of laterally luxated immature permanent mandibular incisors. Eighty-eight percent of the HBOT sessions were tolerated well by the patients in this case series. The most common adverse event was mild anxiety. One patient required oral anxiolytic medications to complete the course of treatment. One patient experienced transient seizure activity and was able to complete that session as well as subsequent sessions at a lower chamber pressure. Future prospective studies are necessary to further evaluate and characterize the potential benefits of HBOT as well as to clarify optimal treatment protocols for specific conditions in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery. This introduction to the "Rape, Genre, and TV after #MeToo" special issue articulates the importance of genre for understanding shifting affective and political norms related to sexual violence. Recent TV from the U.S. and the U.K. has worked to expand the public's understanding of what counts in the genre of rape, bringing into view less discussed harms like nonconsensual condom removal. At the same time, public discussions of rape have put pressure on the conventions of genres, including the genres explored in this special issue: the procedural, stand-up comedy, the Western, and the situation comedy. The aim of this study is to elucidate the mnemonic conditions established in the ever-increasing production and use of cultural memory in streaming media environments. To gain in-depth insight into how memories are selected for remembering and sorted for forgetting, the focus is the HBO Chernobyl mini-series. The case study of HBO's Chernobyl is selected to qualitatively explore cultural memories across the series throughout the complexities of globally connected technologies and markets, where different cultures and languages, as well as media framings, come into play. Theoretically, the article is based on conceptualization of cultural memory studies and streaming media platforms. Methodologically, the case study is supported by the multidimensional analytical lens developed by Erll, adopted to elucidate how the cultural memory of Chernobyl is activated, mediated, and shaped by the streaming series. These three dimensions involve the intra -medial aspects of how memory is expressed within the representation itself, the inter -medial relations which designate the interplay with previous representations of the same historical event, and the pluri -medial contexts in which novels and films appear and exert their influence on cultural memory. In the three-dimension analysis, we address the construction and circulation of cultural memory from the production to the reception of the mini-series in multiple media environments and across borders, depicting the social, cultural, and political impact of streaming media productions. Rai/HBO co-production L'Amica Geniale / My Brilliant Friend (2018–) provides an illuminating example of changing strategies for transnational drama co-production in television's burgeoning 'multiplatform' era. Foregrounding institutional over textual analysis, the article places My Brilliant Friend (MBF) within the industrial, creative and cultural contexts that have facilitated it. Important to these contexts is that transnational co-productions between non-US broadcasters and US-based premium networks are not only increasing but also exhibiting a new degree of cultural diversity. The article examines MBF's origination as a literary adaptation, its genesis as a 'cross-platform' co-production, and its exemplification of changing drama commissioning strategies for Rai and HBO. Neuropathic pain is a kind of chronic intractable disease. HBO explored the involvement of mitophagy which is associated with energy metabolism by AMPK. CaMKKb/AMPK signaling pathway may involve in mitophagy process. We randomly divided mice into four groups: C, S, CCI, and CCIþHBO group. Pain-related behaviors were evaluated using mechanical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency analysis. Western blot was employed to assess expression of CaMKKb, pAMPK, AMPK, NIX, BNIP3, and Drp1. Spinal cord was observed under the electron microscope. Immunofluorescence changes in NeuN and CaMKKb or AMPK were examined. AMPK inhibitor compound C (CC) and CaMKKb inhibitor STO609 were administrated prior to CCI, respectively. The changes in behaviors and Western blot are examined. HBO upregulated CaMKKb and pAMPKa expression. NeuN and CaMKKb were colocalizated in immunofluorescence. HBO can elevate the pain-related behaviors significantly, while it was downregulated by CC or STO609. HBO upregulated NIX, BNIP3, and Drp1 expressive level more significantly than those in CCI group. However, expression was reduced when CC or STO609 were administered. Electron microscopic examination showed that mitophagy was upregulated after HBO treatment. This phenomenon was not observed when CC or STO609 were administered. Our findings suggest that CaMKKb/AMPK pathway maybe a potential signal pathway on analgesic mechanism of hyperbaric oxygen via mitophagy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article pays tribute to the career of Professor David Lavery and his landmark contribution to television studies. It reflects upon how his edited collections on TV series such as Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Sopranos demonstrated the value of research and, in particular, close textual analysis of individual television series. It considers the impact that the many conferences he co-organised and journals he co-founded had in the creation of collaborative research networks and a sphere of influence known as the 'Lavery Effect'. It reflects upon his contribution to legitimising blogging and popular media as acceptable platforms for academic research, thus taking scholarship beyond academic audiences and readers. Finally, the essay offers a review of his personal production, addressing his individual contribution to television studies, particularly addressing how his work led the way in considerations of creativity and television authorship and the development of a TV canon. By examining the discourse around Lena Dunham's HBO comedy Girls (2012- present), this article argues that the programme served as a space to think through female authorship, televisual representations and cultural tensions surrounding young womanhood. Central to this discourse was the narrative asserting Girls' and Dunham's 'authenticity', originality and universality, which sought to legitimate her gendered authorship and interest in the comedy of female intimacy within HBO's masculine prestige channel identity. Charting three cycles of discourse surrounding the programme's debut, this article explores the paratextual framing by promotional concerns, television critics and women's websites. It highlights how journalists and critics furthered HBO's paratextual framing of Dunham, which was later countered by the networked spaces of niche online media, which used the programme as a space to productively work through industrial and cultural tensions; particularly those surrounding female comic authorship, autobiography and intersectionality. This essay explores the use of special effects in HBO's Rome. Looking at depictions of the classical past, it argues that special effects were traditionally used in the cinema to heighten verisimilitude by a sense of spectacle, whose cost put them out of reach of early historical television. With the increase in budgets and the greater affordability of special effects, however, this paper suggests that Rome signals a new kind of classical world on television, wherein special effects not only enhance verisimilitude by a kind of spectacle but also serve a narrative function. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been suggested to improve healing of hard-to-heal diabetic foot ulcers. Although the wide use of HBOT as a treatment for diabetic foot ulcers has been founded on weak scientific ground, 2 well-designed randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies have in recent years put HBOT on firmer ground as treatment for diabetic patients with chronic foot ulcers. The recognition of inclusion criteria in these studies may help identify a select group of diabetic patients with hard-to-heal ulcers who might benefit from HBOT. AMC offers an intriguing case study in the evolution of scripted series on cable television. At its inception, the network boasted one of the most stable and coherent brands on cable, and it now harbors one of the least. In spite of this shift, it has cultivated successful and noteworthy dramatic series. This article explores AMC’s contribution to the twenty-first-century television canon by examining its financial constraints, industrial misfortunes, and leadership changes. This article will construct a history of AMC by drawing from an interview with Vlad Wolynetz, former VP of production, series, and movies at AMC, and from two decades of trade and journalistic articles. AMC has adjusted its programming over time to accommodate the challenges that its minimal resources could not surmount, and its history calls into question the power of the brand and its connection to quality television. Acute cerebral ischemia occurs after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) because of increased intracranial pressure (ICP) and decreased cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP). The effect of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) on physiological and clinical outcomes after SAH, as well as the expressions of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) and its target genes, such as BNIP3 and VEGF was evaluated. Eighty-five male SD rats (300 to 350 g) were randomly assigned to sham, SAH, and SAH+HBO groups. Subarachnoid hemorrhage was induced by endovascular perforation. Cortical cerebral blood flow (CBF), ICP, brain water content, brain swelling, neurologic function, and mortality were assessed. HBO (100% O2, 2.8 ATA for 2 h) was initiated at 1 h after SAH. Rats were sacrificed at 24 h to harvest tissues for Western blot or for histology. Apoptotic morphology accompanied by strong immunostaining of HIF-1α, VEGF, and BNIP3 were observed in the hippocampus and the cortex after SAH. Increased expressions of HIF-1α, VEGF, and BNIP3 were quantified by Western blot. HBO reduced the expressions of HIF-1α, VEGF, and BNIP3, diminished neuronal damage and improved CBF and neurologic function.
