Striking levels of spatial organization exist among and within interphase cell chromosomes, raising the possibility that other nuclear molecular components may also be organized in ways that facilitate nuclear function. To further examine molecular distributions and organization within cell nuclei, we utilized Raman spectroscopy to map distributions of molecular components, with a focus on cellular lipids. Although the vast majority of cellular lipids are associated with membranes, mapping the 2870/2850 cm−1 lipid peak ratios revealed that the most highly ordered lipids within interphase cells are found within cell nuclei. This finding was seen in cells from multiple tissue types, noncancerous cells, and in cancer cell lines of different metastatic potential. These highly ordered lipids colocalize with nuclear chromatin, are present throughout the nuclear volume, and remain colocalized with chromatin through mitosis, when the nuclear envelope has dissociated. Phosphatidylinositol is a major component of the highly ordered lipids. The presence of phosphatidylinositol and other lipids in the nuclear interior is well established, but their highly ordered packing has not been reported and represents a unique finding. The molecular interactions involved in the formation and maintenance of these highly ordered lipids, and their potential effects on nuclear activities, remain to be discovered. This paper deals with some hidden political dimensions of moral panic theory. It concentrates on the implications of two related claims about what this battle meant: first, that moral panics are inherently normative and can be categorized as good and bad moral panics (the ones that we study are invariably bad); second, that students of moral panics have to take sides in this normative battle. Divergent thinking was assessed in 400 adult women and men with tests of word association (associational fluency) and alternate uses (production fluency, flexibility, and originality). The participants were from four age cohorts: young (17-22 years old), middle-aged (40-50), young-old (60-70), and old-old (75+). The test battery also included two intellectual "process" variables (inductive reasoning, memory span), one "dynamic resource variable" (intellectual speediness), one "structural resource variable" (vocabulary), and two moderator variables (depression, education). Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that divergent thinking was significantly, linearly, positively, and moderately related to all of these variables except depression, which was not significantly related to divergent thinking. Effects of age group and gender were assessed in analyses of variance (alpha = .01). The age groups did not differ significantly in associational fluency, but the middle-aged group was the best on production fluency, flexibility, and originality. The article presents the experience of the author in a psychiatric hospital. There were two beginnings, the author supposes. The one when the students started moving in and the other when the author started noticing them. The author is not sure what the gap between these two moments was, probably not very long. Perhaps they started moving in right from the beginning of the year, the academic year the author means, in the first week of October. That would have been the obvious time if they had all planned it together. Though even at this stage, even after all that has happened, the author has no real evidence of any collaboration, any collusion between them. At the end they certainly saw each other, but that was all. Anyway, it was towards the end of January, a few weeks after the start of the second term, when he first noticed anything. Students often walked in and out of lecture courses. It was also not unusual to find those who claimed that it had taken them a whole term to get it together to find the right times and rooms.

The article presents a study concerning the impact of getting feedbacks from interpersonal behavior reciprocities. The study examines replies to feedback in terms of reciprocity from the original statement and then rated depending on the credibility, desirability and accuracy of the feedback. Moreover, the study suggests that reciprocities are important to predict and control the interpersonal behavior.

The literature reveals that many correctional institutions select work releasees solely on the basis of nonalterable historical information. The present study delineated current as well as historical inmate variables predictive of success or failure on a work release program. Subjects were male offenders incarcerated in a minimum security federal institution. The best predictors of success on work release were the level of institutional adjustment immediately before entering the program, whether the inmate had been convicted of auto theft, history of drug use, and age at first arrest. This paper examines issues related to the process and product requirements of evaluative research in a corrections setting. Process requirements include the relationship of the evaluator to management and line staff, methods for encouraging accurate reporting of data, and the implications of the evaluator's position in the organizational structure. Product requirements include distinguishing between in-program and post-program outcome measures, defining adequate post-program measures, and the validity of measures, in particular recidivism. Various methodological problems that are discussed include evaluating dynamic programs with dynamic populations, the selection of comparison groups, and the effects of differential post-release experiences on outcome.
