Currently it is unknown what people receiving adult day services (ADS) understand as leisure and the activities they prefer remain unknown. To address these gaps, we investigated the understanding of leisure of people receiving ADS. We conducted semistructured interviews with 15 people receiving ADS in Germany. Interviews were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. The sweet bitter symphony emphasizes the sensations that shape participant's understanding of leisure. Young, wild & free ! describes the types of preferred activities. Is this our last tango? refers to the barriers. Anchors aweigh! the [ongoing] voyage describes the process by which leisure is transferred from private domain to the ADS environment. The beginning is the end is the beginning illustrates the paradox of understanding the ADS as offering a form of leisure and the adaptation to engage in nonpreference-based activities. Introduction: During administration of chemotherapies, disconnection presents risks for nurses. Thus, it is recommended to flush the infusion line with solvent to reduce this risk and ensure that the entire dose is administered. Objectives of this study were to evaluate flushing practices and to investigate the efficiency of flushing, according to the type of hospitalization, in hospitalization (HU) or day-care unit (DCU), for three drugs. Methods: Twenty secondary infusion lines were collected in five HU and 20 in two DCU. Flushing volumes were estimated by weighing solvent bags. The amount of residual drug was measured for secondary lines by mass spectrometry coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography. Results: Chemotherapies were administered by 26 nurses. All of infusion lines contained chemotherapy after flushing. Flushing volumes, residual concentrations and flushing efficiencies were significantly different between these two types of units. In contrast, flushing volumes administrated did not differ between chemotherapy drugs. Conclusions: Local recommendations are fully implemented in HU and partially in DCU. The use of small volumes in DCU is related to the patient length of stay, it may, also, be due to omitting the average tubing volume. All infusion lines still contained chemotherapy, including those with a flush volume much higher than recommended, showing that the risk of exposure persists. To achieve a rinse volume greater than 50 mL, it is necessary to use at least 100 mL. Background: Globally, the demand for hospice care continues to grow resulting in substantial resource burden. Whilst some countries are able to rely on fixed government contributions, statutory funding for palliative care in the United Kingdom is unequally distributed. These unstable funding streams and increased demand means that hospices need to evidence their value. Objective: This study explored the experiences of patients and family-caregivers to determine what they valued most from accessing hospice services in Wales. Methods: In this large multi-site qualitative study, 94 semi-structured interviews and 2 focus groups were conducted with hospice patients (n = 45), family-caregivers (n = 18), hospice staff (n = 31) and volunteers (n = 10). The audio recordings were transcribed verbatim and analysed using Framework analysis. Results: Seven themes described patient and family-caregiver experiences and what they valued most: relationships with staff and volunteers, greater support networks which reduced social isolation and loneliness, provision of information and advice which improved patient autonomy, symptom management and subsequent reduction in psychological distress, improvements in patient functionality, mobility and overall physical health and respite relief which promoted improved relationships. Conclusion: This is the largest study to explore what patients and family-caregivers value from hospice care. Findings indicate that hospice care provides a truly needs-led and strengths-based service to those who are nearing and at the end-of-life, which is highly valued by patients and family members. The international policy of active ageing emphasises activities and social relations for long-term care recipients, for example through adult day care. Knowledge about who are allocated such services is, however, sparse. We aimed to investigate characteristics that contribute to determine allocation of adult day care for care recipients with and without dementia. This study selected all 250 687 individuals who received long-term care services on 31 December 2019 from the Norwegian Register for Primary Health Care. We added municipal level data from the Municipality-State-Reporting register and a national survey. Multilevel analyses comparing allocation of adult day care services to other services found that municipal clustering was around 20%. Care recipients who lived alone had higher odds of receiving adult day care, while the odds of receiving adult day care decreased as age increased. Disability level and gender were also significantly associated with allocation of adult day care, but in different directions for different user groups. As the unrestricted revenues of municipalities increased, the odds of allocating adult day care to people without dementia decreased. Other municipality characteristics did not significantly impact the allocation of adult day care. In conclusion, individual characteristics were more influential in allocation of adult day care than municipality characteristics, and the results uncovered clear differences between care recipients with and without dementia. Despite recent research showing that early childhood education and daycare settings (ECEC) have an important role in promoting toddlers' physical activity (PA), crucial information gaps remain regarding toddlers' PA and sedentary behavior (SB) in these outdoor settings. We aimed in this study to: (a) analyze PA patterns and SB during unstructured outdoor play time in preschool and daycare environments using accelerometry and systematic observation; (b) provide concurrent accelerometry and observational data to help validate the Observational System for Recording Physical Activity in Children-Preschool Version (OSRAC-P); and (c) examine individual, social and environmental correlates of PA and SB during toddlers' unstructured outdoor play time. We found that: (a) toddlers displayed high amounts of PA with no sex, BMI, and/or age differences in PA and SB levels,; (b) environmental variables (e.g., fixed equipment and playground density) were not associated with PA levels or SB intensity; (c) the OSRAC-P was a reliable and valid means of observing and analyzing toddlers' PA patterns during unstructured outdoor play time; and (e) different social patterns between boys and girls did not impact PA levels or patterns. Introduction: Psychiatric day-care services play a central role in community-based care in Japan. Recovery and related psychosocial factors are critical in promoting community participation of people with mental illness. This study aimed to reveal the relationships among activity information, personal recovery, and related psychosocial factors in day-care users. Method: Forty day-care participants answered self-report questionnaires. The following assessments were applied: Recovery Assessment Scale, Occupational Questionnaire, Perceived Devaluation Discrimination Scale, and 26-item version of World Health Organization Quality of Life (QOL). The correlations among the factors were analyzed. Results: Data for 35 people were analyzed. Total recovery score was strongly correlated with total WHOQOL-26 score (r = 0.76, p < 0.001). Total QOL score was positively related with the value of activities (r = 0.46, p < 0.05). Social QOL and total stigma score had a significant negative relationship (r = −0.44, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Participation in activities was suggested to improve QOL. Although there was a strong relationship between recovery and QOL, it was unclear to what extent participation in activities was related to recovery. The aims of this study were to (1) explore this sample's pre- and post-intervention dietary intake, specifically the macro- and micronutrients, and their eating habits related to location of consumption and use of electronic devices, and (2) compare this sample's nutritional measures to the current Dietary Guidelines 2020 to 2025. Twenty-eight participants were included in the secondary data analysis. Participants reported a total of 822 items consumed during this study. Most items were consumed at home (n = 629, 76.5%). We found significant differences in the intake of energy, protein, total fat, carbohydrates, total vegetables, total grains, and total meat in different locations. For most of these measures, consumption at home and/or restaurants resulted in a greater magnitude of consumption than at other locations (e.g., car, daycare). Participants reported consuming most of their energy and nutrients while either using electronic devices alone (n = 365, 44.4%) or using no devices (n = 346, 42.1%). Significant differences were found among three measures including energy, total fat, and total fiber. The majority of the macronutrients (total fiber, fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy) consumed by our sample were under the threshold recommended in the 2020 to 2025 Dietary Guidelines. Globally, day programs are increasingly proposed in policy as one way to address the support needs of people living at home with dementia and their families. Day programs represent a kind of space that can meet multiple interests and ideologies concerned with sustaining care at home for people living with dementia. In this paper, we draw on findings from an ethnographic study of how day programs work as care in the community for people living with dementia to argue that day programs' ontological status in research as a "simple location" of care contributes to the ambiguous outcomes and limited evidence available for improving their design and delivery. Using one program as an illustrative case, we demonstrate the multiplicity of a day program and the ontological politics through which the potentialities for care emerge. Robert Cooper's proximal analysis of organizing's and Annemarie Mol's work on ontological politics inform this analysis. Of note in this analysis are the different enactments of a day program and their modes of coordination. We show when these enactments hang together well and when they do not and consider the effects of these politics for care. Of particular concern is how some versions of a day program are easily displaced by the interests of administrative versions and managerial logics. Daycare maltreatment refers to abusive and/or neglectful acts perpetrated by teachers, directors, non-professionals or volunteers, family members of staff, and peers in a daycare setting. Despite growing evidence of its occurrence, the prevalence and consequences of daycare maltreatment for the child, the parent(s), and their dyad are largely unknown. This qualitative systematic literature review was conducted to synthesize the existing literature referring to daycare maltreatment, using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. In order to be included in the analysis, the manuscripts needed to report empirical findings regarding maltreatment in daycare settings, be written in English, be published in a peer-reviewed journal or a dissertation, and be accessible by our research team. In all, 25 manuscripts met the above criteria and were included in the review. Our results indicate that reports of daycare maltreatment are characterized by early age of abused children, inferring mainly to sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. The majority of these manuscripts reported caregivers' and teachers' abuse, while peer victimization was reported much less. In addition, the findings demonstrated a higher representation of female perpetrators compared to abuse in other scenarios. Although some indications of long-term implications are reported in the manuscripts, a well-validated measure for assessment of daycare maltreatment seems to be lacking. These findings contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the complex experience and ramifications of daycare maltreatment, providing insight into its multi-faceted implications. Purpose: The design-thinking intergenerational service-learning model (DTISLM) has structured ageing-related trainings on strategies to improve empathy among college students for intergenerational program development and promote positive relationships and wellbeing between younger and older generations in community-based settings. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of DTISLM on college students' ageism, intergenerational relationships, and health. Method: Mixed-methods data were collected via pre–post surveys and after-class reflection notes from 142 students from three universities in Taiwan. Results: DTISLM significantly improved college students' level of empathy toward older adults, age stereotypes, intergenerational relationships, wellbeing (i.e., life satisfaction), and health behaviors (i.e., exercise). This intervention promoted health awareness among college students. Discussion: Via hands-on trainings for empathy improvement, DTISLM empowered college students to develop intergenerational programs that promoted positive intergenerational relationships and healthy habits. Introduction: Capecitabine is a molecule of choice in the therapeutic arsenal of anticancer drugs used in Morocco for the treatment of breast cancer and colorectal cancer. Its frequent use imposes a follow-up and a post-prescription monitoring of the treatment modalities as well as the adverse events that may occur following its administration. Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the level of knowledge of patients in the day hospital of an oncology facility about their treatment with capecitabine. Materials and methods: This is a prospective study conducted over a period of 2 months (January–February 2022) at the day hospital in the National Institute of Oncology in Rabat, and it was conducted using a questionnaire in order to evaluate patients' knowledge about their treatment with capecitabine. Results: This study involved 95 patients, 76% claimed to have ever received pharmaceutical advice on capecitabine treatment. The main indications were colorectal and breast cancer. Ninety seven percent knew the indication for capecitabine and the action of the molecule on the relevant tumor. Eighty three percent receiving capecitabine therapy reported the occurrence of side effects and hand-foot syndrome was the most reported in 31.2% of the total listed side effects. Discussion: Capecitabine is an oral treatment of choice for colorectal and breast cancer in Morocco. Therapeutic education happens to be an effective tool in order to guarantee the best effectiveness and manage the possible side effects that can occur during the treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Laws in Latin American countries are based on scientific evidence that calls for mental health services to move to the community. These care modalities have implementation problems. The objective of this article is to describe the implementation of the services proposed in Law 1616 of 2013 of Colombia (Mental Health Law): emergencies, hospitalization, community-based rehabilitation, pre-hospital care, day hospital for children and adults, Drug Addiction Care Center, groups support and mutual aid, telemedicine, and home and outpatient care. We used a mixed study, with a cross-sectional descriptive quantitative component, where an instrument was used to determine the level of implementation of these services, consisting of a scale that established the availability and use of these services, in addition to the climate of implementation of the services and community mental health strategies, in addition to a qualitative determination of barriers and facilitators of implementation. We found a low availability of all services in departments such as Amazonas, Vaupés, Putumayo, and Meta and an implementation of services in Bogotá and Caldas. The least implemented services are the community ones, and those with the greatest presence at the territorial level are emergencies and hospitalization. We conclude that low- and middle-income countries have few community models and invest a large part of their technical and economic effort in emergencies and hospitalization. Introduction: With advances in monitoring, anesthesia, and minimally invasive techniques, same-day surgeries are expected to rise significantly in the coming years. In this group, patients undergo diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and are sent home on the same day. This poses a great responsibility on the doctors involved and the hospital services, in ensuring the absence of delays, unanticipated admissions, and unexpected adverse events. Patient selection criteria are being used effectively by various centers across the world to prevent elective case cancellation and unplanned hospital admission and identify high-risk cases for major complications including morbidity and mortality. In recent year patient selection criteria, based on the latest guidelines, are being used to identify the risk factors and channel patients for ambulatory, day-care, and inpatient categories. Aims and Objectives: This article purposes a proper patient selection process for the improvement of quality and safety in patients undergoing day-care and office-based procedures. The patient selection criteria, if understood by all the team players, is instrumental in providing clinical guidance and appropriate patient triaging for caring for an ever-increasing, large volume of same-day surgical population. As the volume and complexity of the patient population grow, it is important to revise the patient selection criteria from time to time. Conclusion: Patient selection criteria have to be developed and modified by bodies and institutions to suit local circumstances to channel patients for ambulatory, day-care, and inpatient categories. Creative expression by people living with dementia and their families and carers can improve communication and relationships and strengthen relational personhood. The transition to residential aged care from living at home with dementia is a time of 'relocation stress", and a time when additional psychosocial supports like these might be particularly beneficial. This article reports on a qualitative study that explored how a co-operative filmmaking project functioned as a multifaceted psychosocial intervention, and explored its potential impacts on relocation stressors. Methods included interviews with people living with dementia who were involved in the filmmaking, and their families and close others. Staff from a local day centre and residential aged care home also took part in interviews, as did the filmmakers. The researchers also observed some of the filmmaking process. Reflexive thematic analysis techniques were used to generate three key themes in the data: Relationship building; Communicating agency, memento and heart; Being visible and inclusive. The findings reveal challenges regarding privacy and the ethics of public screenings, as well as the pragmatics of using short films as a communication tool in aged care settings. We conclude that filmmaking as a cooperative endeavour holds promise to mitigate relocation stressors by: improving family and other relationships during challenging times for family and for people living with dementia; providing opportunities for new self-narratives derived from relational subjectivities; supporting visibility and personhood; and improving communication once in residential aged care. Intellectual disability (ID) is assumed to be a dynamic phenomenon influenced by personal and environmental factors. During the 18 months of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, most day centers remained open for adults with ID who lived with their families (most of them with severe/profound [S/P] ID) but were closed to those who lived in group homes (with moderate and mild ID). Owing to the fewer participants in day centers, adults with S/P ID received more hours of therapy than before the pandemic. Using a functional screening tool, functional and environmental changes were mapped and discussed in team meetings. As expected, the pandemic caused environmental and personnel changes that affected all groups. The moderate (n = 29) and mild (n = 31) groups deteriorated over the 18 months of the study, especially the senior ones. However, the functional state of the S/P group (n = 16) improved. These results support the understanding that ID is truly dynamic throughout the lifespan. This study described clients' experiences within adult day care (ADC) and its related impacts. A multisite case study was conducted with 26 older adults from six ADCs in Tokyo, with interviews and field observations conducted between November 2020 and July 2022. The transcribed interviews and field notes were analyzed qualitatively. Three categories pertaining to context ("guilt and resignation to the current living conditions," "desire for social connection despite frustrating limitations," and "supported life based on weekly ADC routine") and four categories about the experiences within ADC ("savoring disability- and age-friendly conversations," "feeling happy about something new and positive," "challenges for changes in self-image," and "discomfort with others and the waste of time") were extracted. Clients' increased vulnerability due to disabilities and COVID-19 affected their experiences. ADCs provide a safe place for interaction, and their use must be encouraged to develop a disability- and age-friendly society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We examined whether participation in intergenerational programming would impact daily food and liquid intake for adult day service center (ADSC) participants, many of whom are at risk for malnutrition and dehydration. Data came from 75 ADSC participants who, on average, attended the center for 472.32 days between 2007 and 2018. We analyzed daily data using multilevel modeling, nesting attending days within ADSC participants. On days when participants joined intergenerational programming, they consumed significantly more solid food (β = 1.54, SD =.37, p <.001), but no different liquid (β = −.16, SD =.09, p =.06), than their own average across all days they attended the ADSC. Intergenerational programming may be an effective way to support ADSCs participants' nutrition. Future research is needed to determine the longer-term health benefits of daily increases in food consumption and to explore why intergenerational programming may differentially impact eating and drinking. In order to reduce care partner strain and support aging in place for people living with Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease Related Dementias (AD/ADRD), adult day centers (ADCs) must manage behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). The purpose of this paper is to identify person-centered care strategies used by center staff to manage BPSD. Six focus groups with center staff (n = 31) were conducted. Data were analyzed using directed content analysis guided by Kitwood's conceptual approach to cultivating personhood in dementia care. Themes were identified and organized within Kitwood's framework. The results demonstrate that staff incorporate evidence-based person-centered approaches to AD/ADRD care that align with Kitwood's principles of comfort, attachment, inclusion, and identity. Staff individualize their approach to people with AD/ADRD within a group setting. They monitor, engage, socially stimulate, and, when needed, de-stimulate them. Centers are flexible social environments with underrecognized expertise managing BPSD using person-centered approaches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: CareMOBI (Mhealth for Organizations to Bolster Interconnectedness) is a mobile application designed to facilitate information exchange between primary care providers (PCPs) and adult day centers (ADCs). A key function of CareMOBI is to synthesize information collected outside of the provider's office (ie,: in the ADC or at home) and distill the most relevant data points into an exportable clinical summary that can help inform clinical decision making by the PCP with information from outside providers who are not formally embedded within health systems. In this study, we used a qualitative approach to understand the acceptability and utility of the clinical summary template within CareMOBI. Methods: Purposive sampling, followed by snowball sampling, was used to recruit PCPs from a variety of primary care practice settings (i.e. home-based, academic). Semi-structured interviews were conducted virtually to elicit feedback on the user-experience after interaction with a prototype template. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using content analysis. Results: Our sample (n = 10) consisted of physicians and nurse practitioners in a variety of settings. Feedback suggested that the summary template facilitates interdisciplinary, bidirectional, succinct, and relevant information exchange across care teams. The summary template effectively integrates observations and assessments from team members, centralizes them, and allows PCPs to hone in on the most salient components to inform clinical decision making for the geriatric patient. The summary gave PCPs "live texture" about what was happening outside the office and represented a significant improvement over other methodologies of information exchange. Prior to implementation into clinical practice, several refinements are necessary based on feedback including integration into the PCP's workflow. Conclusions: The template was viewed by PCPs as a concise and actionable record, in contrast to current communication which is characterized as "bloated"—containing too many pages on nonessential information. The summary could potentially save PCP's time in locating and analyzing historical data to enable rapid patient assessment and prompt more ready and informed action. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: To assess the sustained effects of a buddy-style intervention aiming to improve physical activity. Design: A parallel-group, open-label, randomized controlled trial. Setting: Three adult day-care centers. Participants: Sixty-five community-dwelling older adults with disabilities. Intervention: All participants received a 12-week home-based exercise program. An intervention group (n = 33) received a 5–10 min buddy-style intervention once a week at an adult day-care center for older adults. Main measures: The primary outcome was the average daily time spent performing "walking outside home" and "muscle strength exercises" at 24 weeks follow-up post-intervention. Results: Of the 65 participants, one participant in each group dropped out before the program began, 4 and 5 in the intervention and control groups by the 12-week assessment, and 4 and 3 by the 24-week assessment, respectively. Analysis of covariance of the 47 participants who were able to be assessed after 24 weeks revealed that outdoor walking time (min/day) was significantly longer in the intervention group (n = 24) than in the control group (n = 23) at 24 weeks (intervention group, 73.5 [66.1]; control group, 42.7 [45.5]; P = 0.030, f = 0.38). There was no significant difference in the duration of muscle strength exercises (min/day) between the two groups at 24 weeks (intervention group, 8.2 [9.7]; control group, 6.5 [9.3]; P = 0.593, f = 0.08). Conclusions: The buddy-style intervention increased the duration of outdoor walking, with a sustained effect up to 12 weeks after the end of the intervention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The five Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) have long traditions of social welfare policies that have eradicated poverty as part of their goals. The purpose of this study was to increase our understanding of why child poverty is still significant in the Nordic countries despite existing strategies. Methods: A qualitative analysis of Nordic government documents and reports between 2007 and 2019 was carried out to track changes in public health priorities and political measures and to determine the similarities and differences between the five countries. Results: In all countries, most of the measures were universal, such as benefits during pregnancy, paid parental leave before and after the child was born, paid parental leave related to children's sickness, child allowances, day care, free health care for children and support for disabled children. National policies aimed to reduce social inequalities and child poverty exist in all five countries, but unaffordable housing, unequal disposable family income distribution and unequal income distribution at local municipality levels seem to be obstacles to reaching national policy goals. Conclusions: Despite comprehensive universal measures to eradicate child poverty, inequalities are significant and increasing in some of the Nordic countries. This might be due to a lack of proportional universalism, where universal measures are in place in all Nordic countries, but with a lack of scale and intensity proportional to the children and families at risk. Adult day services (ADS) are one of the more popular long-term care options for racial and ethnic minority older Americans. Focusing on minority older adults, this study aims to (a) identify both the individual and structural/organizational levels factors associated with ADS use and to (b) examine ADS' effect on health and well-being. Using the integrative review approach of Whittemore and Knafl, we found 14 studies published between 2010 to 2021. Findings concluded that individual-level needs and enabling factors were associated with ADS use and outcomes among minority older adults centered mostly on quality of life. Organizational/structural characteristics of ADS were never empirically examined in relation to service use or health outcomes. Future research should move beyond the individual level to identify and address the impact of the institutional structure, culture and practice on access, quality, and use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This practice note reports on the work of the Namaste Community Health Partnership, an academic-community partnership established to address health disparities in a metro-area Bhutanese–Nepali refugee community in the western United States. Partners worked together to develop, implement, and evaluate a culturally-tailored health promotion program where Bhutanese–Nepali individuals led weekly walking groups and shared health promotion information and behavior change tools with community participants. The program was implemented with approximately 70 community members across two metro-area neighborhoods and two adult day care centers serving elders. Evaluation strategies included documenting walk attendance, tracking engagement with health promotion goals, and focus group discussions with program participants. Once enrolled, most participants consistently attended walks and achieved weekly goals—some even increased walking frequency beyond program requirements. Participants provided positive feedback about having a community leader and reported learning new information and enjoying participating with other community members. Challenges and lessons learned included difficulties engaging younger adults from the community, concerns about signing research consent forms, cultural norms discouraging the distribution of individual research participation incentives, variability across groups in preferences for program activities, and barriers to administering survey-based evaluation instruments. This academic–community partnership built capacity in the local Bhutanese–Nepali community, produced culturally relevant health programming, and trained and employed community members as health educators and physical activity leaders. The program resulting from this work has the potential to improve health knowledge and chronic disease prevention practices and ultimately reduce health disparities in an underserved refugee community. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) refers to numbness, tingling, and burning sensation caused by chemotherapy that can cause impairment in Quality of Life (QoL) of the patients. Study assesses severity, risk factors, and quality of life of patients associated with CIPN. A cross sectional descriptive study was conducted at day care ward, tertiary care hospital India. Total of 98 patients receiving paclitaxel for ≥4 months were enrolled by convenient sampling. Data regarding demographics and clinical characteristics, CIPN severity, risk factors, and QoL were collected by structured questionnaires. Study revealed that median score of autonomic symptoms was higher than sensory and motor symptoms. Mean score of FACT/GOG-Ntx sub-domain was 99.05 ± 20.87on a scale of 0 to 152. ECOG Performance status, current exercise behavior, and fruit and vegetable intake was found to be significantly (at p <.05) associated with sensory, motor, and autonomic symptom score. Objectives: To describe the perceived and unmet needs for health and social services and their relative importance among families coping with dementia in urban China. Methods: We used data from a cross-sectional survey conducted between 2018 and 2019 in two cities in eastern China. Trained staff conducted structured interviews of family caregivers of people living with dementia at home to obtain individual characteristics as well as types of service needs of families coping with dementia. Service needs and utilization in 24 types of services across five domains (daily living, medical/nursing, rehabilitation, mental health, and other) were examined. Descriptive statistics were used to describe characteristics of the dyads and the ranking of services based on the percentage of respondents with perceived/unmet needs. Results: A total of 170 (87.6%) family caregivers completed the interviews. The mean age of the care recipient was 77.2 years (range: 60–102) and 65.3% were female. The mean age of family caregivers was 58.4 years (range: 28–90), and 57.1% were female. The top five services used by the care recipients were: primary care, medication management, housekeeping, activities of daily living assistance, and adult day service. The five services with the most unmet needs were: legal assistance (42.7%), hospice care (44.7%), respiratory secretion management (expectoration) (57.6%), life enrichment activities (65.4%), and companion care (67.0%). Except for transportation and dressing/grooming, working and nonworking caregivers reported similar relative importance of service needs. Conclusions: The findings suggest that people living with dementia and their family require a wide range of services and supports to live in the community. Introduction: Patient-reported outcomes (PROs) use, via a computer registry, allows patients to report their symptoms enabling the detection of early signs of progression of the disease. For such a record, the patient needs to show certain skills in new technologies use. The present study aimed to analyse the perception and degree of digital literacy of patients undergoing oncological treatment in an Oncology Day Hospital (ODH). Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was performed, where the degree of literacy of patients attending antineoplastic treatment at the ODH was examined by means of an anonymous survey. Results: A total of 122 patients have been included in the study. The proportion of subjects who use the electronic mail (TM) and the Internet on a daily basis was 45.1% and 70.5%, respectively, and up to 77.9% from the subjects considered that the use of digital 2.0 strategies could help improve communication between healthcare professional and patient. The TM was determined by the age, educational level and employment status of the individual. Furthermore, the age of the patients conditioned their perception of the usefulness of the web 2.0 tools (T2.0). Conclusion: This study allowed us to establish a target patient profile to conduct the efficient monitoring of cancer progression by PROs. The results have shown that approximately 60% of the patients in our population could be potential candidates to receive PROs-based health care. Objective: To assess the preliminary effects of a buddy-style intervention to improve exercise adherence. Design: A parallel-group, open-label, pilot randomized controlled trial. Setting: Adult day-care centers. Participants: Sixty-five disabled older adults. Interventions: All participants underwent a 12-week home exercise program, and the intervention group received a 5–10 min buddy-style intervention between older adults in the intervention group once weekly at an adult day-care center. Main measures: Based on the exercise log calendar, the number of days of exercise was assessed for each of the three phases: 1–4 weeks, 5–8 weeks, and 9–12 weeks. Short physical performance battery was measured at baseline and after 12 weeks. Results: Of the 590 screened older adults, 65 were recruited and 33 were assigned to the intervention group. One participant in each group withdrew before the program began, and four and five patients in the intervention and control groups, respectively, dropped out by the 12-week assessment. Analysis of covariance of the 28 and 26 patients in the intervention and control groups, respectively, for whom exercise log calendars could be retrieved, showed that the intervention group (24.4/28 days) exercised significantly more days than the control group (20.6/28 days) at 9–12 weeks (P = 0.009). In the between-group effect of the intention-to-treat analysis of short physical performance battery, walking and standing test (P = 0.790, P = 0.829) were not significantly different, and balance test (P = 0.049) was significantly better in the control group. An understanding of adult day service centers' (ADC) impacts on clients' health and well-being has been hampered by a lack of large-scale data. Standardizing data collection is critical to strengthening ADC programs, demonstrating their effectiveness, and enabling them to leverage additional funding streams beyond Medicaid. We distributed an electronic survey on current data collection efforts to ADCs nationally to determine categories of data ADCs are collecting related to clients' health. In our sample (N = 248), only 32% of ADCs collected patient-level data for research and analysis—most commonly on activities of daily living, cognition, nutrition, and caregiver strain. However, validated assessment tools were used in less than 50% of the cases. ADCs are willing to collect data: More than 70% reported a willingness to participate in future studies. Objective: To evaluate patients' experiences of shortened hospitalization in relation to bone grafting of unilateral alveolar clefts with mandibular symphyseal bone grafts. Design: Prospective cohort questionnaire study. Setting: Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Aarhus University Hospital, Denmark. Patients: Thirty-nine (male n = 26, female n = 13) patients with unilateral residual clefts after primary reconstruction, mean age 10.4 years. Interventions: All patients underwent a standardized procedure with closure of the alveolar defect using mandibular symphyseal bone grafts. Patients were discharged within a day after surgery. Within 24 hours after discharge from surgery, patients and their parents filled in a 14-item psychometric questionnaire assessing the quality of their recovery. For all questions, a visual analogue scale (VAS) (0-10) was used. Main Outcome Measure: Patients' experience of shortened hospitalization in relation to secondary bone grafting of alveolar defects. Factors influencing the overall experience were measured using a VAS scale. Results: A significant correlation between "Information from the hospital" and feeling worried and anxious was found (P =.04). Additionally, the ability to sleep correlated with pain (P =.003) and with nausea (P =.001). Conclusions: Although this study included a limited number of patients, the findings suggest that treatment of alveolar residual cleft with bone grafting from the mandibular symphyseal region in a day care surgery setting is characterized by very high patient satisfaction. Objectives: Multiple tuberculosis (TB) exposures have been reported in New York City (NYC) adult day care and senior centers. Strategies to identify TB transmission at such locations are needed. Method: Review of the NYC TB Registry identified 12 contact investigations (CIs) at adult day care or senior centers (2011–2018). Results: Median age of the 12 index patients was 81 years. Of 148 contacts identified who had no history of TB infection or disease, 141 (95%) were tested for TB, primarily with interferon gamma release assays; 46 (33%) tested positive. Transmission was probable (n = 3) or possible (n = 1) at 4 (33%) centers; at all of these, the index patient had an acid-fast bacilli–positive sputum smear. Transmission was not found from index patients with negative sputum smears. Introduction: The Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) ApproachTM is a leading approach in occupational therapy. Implementing the CO-OP ApproachTM in a group format in day rehabilitation has not yet been explored. Method: In day rehabilitation, a barrier to implementing the CO-OP ApproachTM is the group model. To address these challenges, this feasibility study involved the development, implementation, and evaluation of a CO-OP group for adults. Four patients participated in six group sessions. Pre- and post-measures included the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) and the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (AMPS). Subjective data were collected to reflect the participant's experiences during the group. Results: 80% of participants recruited completed the group. All participants demonstrated improvement in goals addressed within the group and goals not addressed within the group on the COPM. AMPS findings were inconclusive. Subjective findings indicated participants appreciated the group learning environment, valued the CO-OP process, were motivated to participate, and would have liked more groups. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first adult CO-OP group in a clinical setting. Introduction: CareMOBI (Mhealth for Organizations to Bolster Interconnectedness) is a mobile application designed to facilitate information exchange between primary care providers (PCPs) and adult day centers (ADCs). A key function of CareMOBI is to synthesize information collected outside of the provider's office (ie,: in the ADC or at home) and distill the most relevant data points into an exportable clinical summary that can help inform clinical decision making by the PCP with information from outside providers who are not formally embedded within health systems. In this study, we used a qualitative approach to understand the acceptability and utility of the clinical summary template within CareMOBI. Methods: Purposive sampling, followed by snowball sampling, was used to recruit PCPs from a variety of primary care practice settings (i.e. home-based, academic). Semi-structured interviews were conducted virtually to elicit feedback on the user-experience after interaction with a prototype template. Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using content analysis. Results: Our sample (n = 10) consisted of physicians and nurse practitioners in a variety of settings. Feedback suggested that the summary template facilitates interdisciplinary, bidirectional, succinct, and relevant information exchange across care teams. The summary template effectively integrates observations and assessments from team members, centralizes them, and allows PCPs to hone in on the most salient components to inform clinical decision making for the geriatric patient. The summary gave PCPs "live texture" about what was happening outside the office and represented a significant improvement over other methodologies of information exchange. Prior to implementation into clinical practice, several refinements are necessary based on feedback including integration into the PCP's workflow. Conclusions. The template was viewed by PCPs as a concise and actionable record, in contrast to current communication which is characterized as "bloated"--containing too many pages on nonessential information. Background: Day centres are a substantial element of community-based support for older people in many countries. However, assumptions that they are an outdated or costly service model have resulted in many centre closures in England. The perspectives of 42 people attending, providing, making referrals to or purchasing places at four diverse day centres for older people were collected in interviews. Using these data, we explore day centres' relevance to social workers' efforts to promote person-centred support for older people enabling them to maintain or improve their well-being. These are explored from the perspectives of choice, control and person-centredness and local authority responsibilities for shaping the care market under the Care Act 2014. Findings: Attenders highly valued centres' congregate nature and the continuity they offered which contributed to the development of person-centred relationships. Attenders exercised choice in attending day centres. Social work staff were more positive about day centres' relevance to personalisation than those responsible for making decisions about the shape of local care services. Applications: With social isolation recognised as a serious risk of old age, the value of togetherness in group environments may need highlighting. Enactment of personalisation policies need not necessarily lead to individualisation; day centres may be community-based assets for some. Those shaping the care market may be encouraged to acknowledge wider outcomes, and frontline social workers may benefit from hearing positive experiences that may help in the development of effective care plans for older people who would like to benefit from day centre participation. This is the first nationally representative study to identify differences between adult day services centers, a unique home- and community-based service, by racial/ethnic case-mix: Centers were classified as having a majority of participants who were Hispanic, non-Hispanic Black, or non-Hispanic other race/ethnicities and non-Hispanic White. The associations between racial/ethnic case-mix and geographic and operational characteristics of centers and health and functioning needs of participants were assessed using multivariate regression analyses, using the 2014 National Study of Long-term Care Providers' survey of 2,432 centers. Half of all adult day centers predominantly served racial/ethnic minorities, which were more likely to be for-profit, had lower percentages of self-pay revenue, more commonly provided transportation services, and had higher percentages of participants with diabetes, compared with predominantly non-Hispanic White centers. Background: Day care services support older people living with long-term conditions (LTC's). Aims: The aims of the study were to determine outcomes in terms of loneliness and health-related quality of life for older people with LTCs attending day care services in the United Kingdom. Methods: Newly referred older people with LTCs to day care services in North West of England and Wales were invited to participate. The EQ-5D-3L and De Jong Loneliness questionnaires were completed at recruitment, 6 and 12 weeks. Results: Ninty-four older people (64% female), age range 65–99 years; mean number of LTCs 4.3 (range: 2–9) were recruited. About 52% lived alone and 36% lived in one of the 20% most deprived local authorities in England and Wales. Outcomes over 12 weeks were comparable for paid, blended, and for volunteer-led services. Conclusion: Following the Covid-19 pandemic, it is increasingly urgent to support older people with LTCs who may have lost physical and cognitive function during lockdown and to support their recovery. Our study suggests that volunteers can provide services and complement the care provided by paid staff, freeing up resources and enabling increasing numbers of older people to be supported. People with dementia have different needs, and it is important to have variation in the services that are offered for this population. Farm-based day care aims to meet this diversity in need, but research on such services is lacking. The present study provides knowledge about how people with dementia experience attending farm-based day care services in Norway. Ten semi-structured interviews were conducted for five different services, while the participants were at the farm. The interviews were analysed in accordance with the content analysis of Graneheim, U., & Lundman, B. (2004) [ Nurse Education Today, 24 (2), 105-112] and revealed three main categories that included (1) social relations, (2) being occupied at the farm, and (3) individually tailored service. The findings were summarised in the overall theme that attending day care at a farm makes me feel like a real participant. Our findings indicate that the farm-based day cares in the present study provide person-centred care. The farm setting facilitates services that are tailored to the individual, where the participants get to use their remaining resources and spend time outdoors. Further, farm-based day care was described as being suitable for people with or without farm experience and must be seen as an important supplement to regular day care for those who could benefit from a more active service. Objectives: Dementia research and services in Pakistan are limited. The following was explored in experiences of family caregivers of people with dementia in Pakistan: (a) to determine whether culture and religion play a role in caregiving; (b) to draw insights on how family caregivers cope, what barriers they face and what help they would be willing to accept and (c) to determine how these findings could be used to raise awareness and influence public policies in improving the lives of families living with dementia. Methods: The experiences of family caregivers of people with dementia in Pakistan were explored via semi-structured interviews (10 in Lahore; 10 in Karachi). This was part of a larger qualitative study conducted about dementia in Pakistan. Caregivers interviewed were aged 35–80 (14 female). Most caregivers in the study were educated and affluent. Interviews were conducted in Urdu, translated into English and thematically analysed. Results: Five themes emerged: knowledge and awareness; stigma; importance of religion and duty to care; use of day care centres and home-help; and barriers. A lack of dementia awareness exists in Pakistan. The religious duty to care for family influenced caregiving decisions. Day care centres and home-help were accessed and viewed positively. The caregivers also wanted extracurricular activities for people with dementia, support groups for caregivers and better training for healthcare staff. Novel findings included that caregivers felt that dementia should not be stigmatised, and awareness should be raised in Pakistan via TV, radio and social media, but not inside mosques. Discussion: Additional research is necessary to determine if positive views of day care centres and home-help exist more widely. Attitudes and experiences regarding stigma may be different for caregivers of people with more advanced dementia. Background: Pneumonia and influenza are major health concerns and constitute a high economic burden. However, few data are available on the associated risk of pneumonia and influenza and work exposure on a large population scale. Aim: This study aimed to examine the associated risk of pneumonia and influenza by type of work exposure. Methods: By cross-linking administrative Danish registries, we classified people in 10 different profession types. The main outcome was hospitalisation with pneumonia or influenza. A multivariable Poisson regression analysis was used to assess the associated incidence rate ratio (IRR) of being hospitalised with pneumonia or influenza by type of profession. Results: A total of 1,327,606 people added risk time to the analyses. In a multivariable model, work in day care, public transportation, sewers and nursing home care was associated with an increased risk of hospitalisation with pneumonia compared to work within public administration: IRR=1.20 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.12–1.28), IRR=1.21 (95% CI 1.09–1.34), IRR=1.61 (95% CI 1.19–2.19) and IRR=1.10 (95% CI 1.03–1.18), respectively. In a multivariable analysis, people working within public transportation were associated with an increased risk of hospitalisation with influenza compared to people working within public administration: IRR=2.54 (95% CI 1.79–3.58). Conclusions: Working in day care, public transportation, sewers and nursing home care increased the associated risk of hospitalisation with pneumonia, and working within public transportation increased the associated risk of being hospitalised with influenza compared to working within public administration. Adult day service centers (ADSCs) provide community-based long-term care, including meals, to racially diverse older adults, 47% of whom have dementia and consequently experience elevated nutritional risk. We examine nutritional behaviors for Chinese and Vietnamese persons living with dementia (PLWD) in ADSCs and evaluate the extent to which ADSCs provide person-centered nutritional care. Multi-stakeholder interviews were conducted. Data were coded using Dedoose and analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-step method. The Model for the Provision of Good Nutritional Care in Dementia guided analysis. Barriers to food intake included distracting meal environment, rigid mealtimes, and excessively restrictive diets. Conversely, peer relationships, culturally tailored meals and celebrations, and consistent staff assisting with feeding benefited PLWD. ADSCs can support healthy nutritional behaviors and quality of life among PLWD through person-centered nutritional care. To optimize nutritional services, further exploration is needed with respect to the ADSC environment, users' culture and ethnicity, and liberalized diets for PLWD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: The present study evaluated the reciprocal temporal associations between one's subjective age (or felt age) and one's social relations in the adult day care center (ADCC) over two waves of data collection, spread about 1 year apart. Method: Participants from four ADCCs in Israel were approached in 2017 and repeatedly, in 2018 (N = 224 in Wave 1 and N = 259 in Wave 2). The ADCC social network included both outgoing ties of familiar relationships with other ADCC members as reported by the respondent (out-degree centrality) and ingoing ties, based on reports of other ADCC members who were familiar with the respondent (in-degree centrality). Results: Out-degree and in-degree centrality at baseline were not associated with change in subjective age. Subjective age at the first time point was not associated with change in out-degree centrality, but it was negatively associated with change in in-degree centrality. Even after controlling for sociodemographic and health variables, adults who felt younger were subsequently cited by more ADCC members. Conclusions: The findings stress the importance of subjective age to one's relationship in the ADCC. It is suggested that a younger subjective age is a desired quality in the ADCC. Day programs are commonly identified in dementia strategies as a solution for keeping people with dementia home for as long as possible. Limited research evidence is available to support these policy approaches, and much of what exists demonstrates equivocal results. While key day program researchers have called for improvements in methodological and theoretical efforts, we argue that basic assumptions concerning what a day program is, and how the effects of day programs should be studied, also require reconsideration. Problematization is a systematic review strategy used to identify and critique assumptions guiding research practices and knowledge development in a field of study. The approach entails a broad overview of a field of research alongside a close reading of key texts to identify prevailing assumptions about the object of study and how it can be known. The intent is to discern how these assumptions are influencing research practices and thus knowledge development. A review of historical texts and research literature reviews was used (1) to identify trends in day program research between 1990 and 2018 and (2) to support identification of influential and typical studies for closer analysis (n = 36). The outcome of our analysis of the research literature suggests three sets of assumptions that guide much of the day program research literature: dementia is mainly treated as a problem of the individual; day programs are treated as stand-alone units of substitute care; and the space of day programs is seen as a simple background to care. We argue that the assumptions regarding care and space have narrowed the field of research and contributed to the production of equivocal findings. We suggest alternative framings of notions of care and space, informed by a Science and Technology Studies' approach to care practices, to generate knowledge about day programs that can usefully inform policy and practice. Objectives: Within an implementation study, we investigated the effectiveness of a combined community-based day care programme for persons with dementia and their carers versus traditional psychogeriatric nursing home-based day care. The effects on needs, sense of competence, burden and quality of life of the family carers were studied. Methods: A pretest–posttest control group design among family carers of people with dementia who joined community-based day care centres (n = 67) or nursing home-based day care centres (n = 64). Results: After six months, family carers using community-based day care more often expressed an unmet need for support regarding psychological distress than carers utilising nursing home-based day care. No effect of community-based day care on sense of competence was found. However, carers with a low sense of competence at baseline using community-based compared to nursing home-based day care became less emotionally burdened by behaviour and mood problems of their relative. Conclusion and discussion: Overall, no added value of community-based day care on needs, sense of competence, burden and quality of life was found. Increased unmet needs on psychological distress may have been caused by the increased awareness of carers participating in the carer programme of community-based day care regarding their own unmet support needs. For carers with a low sense of competence, community-based day care proves to decrease the impact of behaviour and mood problems of their relative. This study presents the case of an innovative Adult Day Program model resulting from a community–college partnership, with a formative evaluation of its contributions. A triangulation of data sources were used (existing documents, seniors' records, survey of caregivers). An overview of the historical development of the Adult Day Program model, and its underlying partnership, is presented. The model demonstrated feasibility and satisfaction by the community served, and opportunities for students' training in real settings. Province-wide efforts should support the expansion of services based on this model, which may also be replicated in other environments to complement traditional long-term care services. Objective: To explore managers' opinions on planning and design of location, building type, spatial layout, and interior design of adult day care centers (ADCCs). Background: The planning and design of new ADCCs affect subsequent service users and workflows. Studies explore the factors affecting such planning and design using qualitative methods and from the perspective of users. Quantitative methods are rarely employed to explore factors affecting planning and opinions on the design of ADCCs from administrators' perspective. Methods: Stratified sampling was used to collect data from managers of ADCCs in Taiwan. A mixed-method approach with an analytic hierarchy process was used to quantify the relative importance of factors affecting location and building type selections. Participants responded to open-ended interview questions followed by focus group interviews to examine the key points for spatial layout and interior design. Results: The managers deemed support and attitudes from local residents (group weight =.208) and authorities (group weight =.187) as their first two critical location selection criteria. Regarding their opinions on the conditions of building type, those that prioritized the products and technologies of facility design were deemed the most critical (group weight =.193), followed by those that valued daylight quality (group weight =.161). Six key points of spatial layout and interior design were obtained from the focus group interviews. Conclusions: This study provides a reference for the effective planning of operations, including geographical location, building type, spatial layout, and interior refurbishment and design. Purpose: The present study aims to contribute to current knowledge about nurses' perceived importance of lighting in patient rooms and to compare these perceptions across different ages, work shifts, (day and night), and environments of care (traditional and contemporary). Background: Creating an environment of care in patient rooms that successfully balances energy efficiency concerns with the holistic needs of patients, families, and caregivers poses a major challenge for future lighting systems. This study adds to a growing evidence base on the effects of lighting on nurses' job performance, job satisfaction, and overall perceptions of the environment. Method: Survey responses from 138 participants working in medical–surgical units in four hospitals were analyzed using a mixed-methods approach, with three of the hospitals having lighting systems characterized as providing a traditional environment of care (TEC) and the other hospital having lighting systems characterized as providing a contemporary environment of care (CEC). Results: No significant differences were found based on age or work shift, but several significant differences were found between participants working in the hospital with a CEC and those working in hospitals with a TEC. Participants from the hospital with a CEC lighting system consistently reported higher lighting quality, fewer patient complaints, and less need for supplemental lighting than the participants from the three hospitals with TEC lighting systems. Conclusion: The results of this study provide evidence that innovative lighting approaches and technologies are worth considering as an investment by hospital administrators looking to improve perceptions of the patient room environment. Older people may experience considerable loss when they endure emotional or social loneliness. Emotional loneliness is related to the loss or absence of a confidant while social loneliness describes the discrepancy between the nature of one's desired and actual social network. In this article, both concepts are examined in relation to new attendees at time-limited day center reablement programs in Northern Ireland. Using group work activities, reablement programs aim to motivate participants to continue to live independently, often in the face of later life losses. Out of a total of 91 initial respondents (range, 61–94), 13 lived with adult children (10 of whom were lone parents). Those living with, or who had daily contact with, adult children had significantly higher levels of emotional loneliness at the start of their program, but not at the end. For this sample, reductions in emotional loneliness in certain cohorts of older adults who attend these programs have been identified. In conclusion, it is proposed that fourth age losses mediate older people's living arrangement and may create greater vulnerability to emotional loneliness in those living with adult children. Background: Over the last years, there has been a growth in care solutions aiming to support home-dwelling persons with dementia. Assistive technology and voluntarism have emerged as supplements to traditional homecare and daycare centers. However, patient participation is often lacking in decision-making processes, undermining ethical principles and basic human rights. Research objective: This study explores the perceptions of persons with dementia toward assistive technology, volunteer support, homecare services, and daycare centers. Research design: A hermeneutical approach was chosen for this study, using a semi-structured interview guide to allow for interviews in the form of open conversations. Participants and research context: Twelve home-dwelling persons with dementia participated in the study. The participants were recruited through municipal daycare centers. Ethical considerations: Interviews were facilitated within a safe environment, carefully conducted to safeguard the participants' integrity. The Regional Committee for Medical and Health Research Ethics, Western Norway (Project number 2016/1630) approved the study. Findings: The participants shared a well of reflections on experience and attitudes toward the aspects explored. They described assistive technology as possibly beneficial, but pointed to several non-beneficial side effects. Likewise, they were hesitant toward volunteer support, depending on how this might fit their individual preferences. Homecare services were perceived as a necessary means of care, its benefits ascribed to a variety of aspects. Similarly, the participants' assessments of daycare centers relied on specific aspects, with high individual variety. Discussion and conclusion: The study indicates that the margins between whether these specific care interventions were perceived as supportive or infringing may be small and details may have great effect on the persons' everyday life. This indicates that patient participation in decision-making processes for this group is—in addition to be a judicial and ethical requirement—crucial to ensure adequate care and support. Recent research has recognized the value of participatory arts, including choirs, as a strategy to engage older adults in the community. Less is known about the participation of minority older adults of low socioeconomic status (SES) in choirs. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to explore the perceived benefits of choral singing among older adults from Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) day centers. We elicited perceptions from 19 choir participants from three focus groups, the majority of whom were Black or African American (N =17/19), each held at a different PACE center. One main theme emerged, "Something for us to do that we love," with two subthemes, "Joyful time together" and "Uplifting experience performing for others." These study findings have implications for promoting choir singing in older adults to serve as a place for engagement in social interactions in a lifelong activity they love. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Objective: This study explored Arab American stakeholders' perceptions about potential future adult day programming to inform geriatric service providers about relevant services for culturally diverse older adults. Research Design and Method: Participants (N = 28) in five focus groups were recruited through a social service provider in Metropolitan Detroit, Michigan. Results were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Themes included basic requirements, promoting clear and transparent understanding of adult day programs (ADPs), respecting the person, social engagement and activities, explaining complex ethnic and geographic identities, and implementing diversity. Discussion and Implications: ADP service providers can enhance services by drawing on the life experiences, resilience, and creativity of older Arab Americans. Person-focused policies and programs that draw on the strengths of the diverse local community should be developed and communicated clearly for potential participants, family members, and service providers.
