Coercive control is a complex and poorly understood dimension of intimate partner violence that is associated with trauma and mental health consequences. It is essential to understand the nuanced and varied experiences of coercive control and potential processes of traumatization. In this qualitative phenomenological study, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 16 women who had experienced coercive control and accessed domestic violence services in Australia. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, which addressed two research questions: (1) How do women describe their experiences of coercive control and (2) How do women describe the impact of coercive control exposure on their mental health? Findings identified entrapment and insidiousness (characterized by subtlety, intangibleness, and gradual worsening), as underlying dimensions of coercive control that were central to the trauma and mental health reactions of participants. These women also described a range of trauma and mental health reactions (e.g., anxiety, hypervigilance, affective dysregulation, negative self-concept, and disturbances with trust and relationships). The findings have important implications for research and practice, highlighting the pressing need for the provision of trauma-informed and integrated psychosocial care by frontline services, health care providers, and mental health professionals who support women who have been exposed to coercive control. The study of populist attitudes has thus far drawn heavily on ideational definitions of populism, focussing almost exclusively on attitudes related to dimensions such as people-centredness and anti-elitism. However, these accounts have largely ignored other approaches to populism, especially the discursive-performative school which see populism as something that is communicated and done by political actors. We argue that when studying populist attitudes, these approaches are not mutually exclusive. In this article, we develop a novel measure of attitudes towards populist communication and consider how these interact with populist ideational attitudes. Testing our measures on the Australian case, we demonstrate that attitudes towards populist communication exist independently of populist ideational attitudes, and that they have a significant effect on voting behaviour and on attitudes related to the ideational approach. Therefore, we argue that studies of populist attitudes need to take attitudes towards populist communication into account in future work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the antecedents and consequences of value co-creation behavior in a hospitality context. An online questionnaire with samples of hotel patrons in the United States and Australia was used to obtain data and partial least square modeling was used in the analysis. The results suggest patron fairness perception enhances trust and identification with a hotel, which encourage engagement in the value co-creation behavior. Furthermore, this behavior enhances patron well-being and respect for the hotel. The study contributes to the literature by suggesting a value co-creation behavior model in the hospitality context and empirically examining the antecedents and consequences of this behavior. This study examines the predictive power of cognitive and affective food image components on potential tourists' behavioral intention. Using Chinese tourists' perception of Australia as the context, the study adopted a multi-method approach incorporating desktop research, surveys of food tourism stakeholders, and quantitative testing of a model using survey data. Results confirmed that (1) cognitive food image is a formative construct, (2) cognitive food image is a stronger predictor of intention than affective image, and (3) the moderating effect of food neophobia highlights the need for a destination image-building strategy to be sensitive to tourists' food-related personality traits. Study findings validate a structural model that integrates theories regarding food image and food neophobia to explain destination food image formation. A number of studies have examined why students choose to study journalism at university, but overall, this area is still relatively underexplored. Yet, understanding why students choose journalism, and what career expectations they hold, is important not only for educators but also for wider society and public debates about the future of journalism and the value of tertiary journalism education. This article examines the motivations of 1884 Australian journalism students enrolled across 10 universities. It finds that hopes for a varied lifestyle and opportunities to express their creativity are the most dominant motivations among students. Public service ideals are somewhat less important, while financial concerns and fame are least important. These motivations also find expression in students' preferred areas of specialisation (referred to in Australia as rounds): lifestyle rounds are far more popular than politics and business rounds or science and development rounds. ABSTRACT Building Information Modeling ( BIM) systems are increasingly used in construction projects. Theoretically, these systems provide greater transparency and access to construction project information and, in doing so, should reduce the information asymmetry that commonly arises in construction contracting relationships. This typically occurs when suppliers of products and services opportunistically take advantage of the client due to the imbalance in information. The article therefore explores whether or not the high level of information content offered by BIM and the potential for sharing that information among contracting parties means that the information asymmetry can be alleviated using BIM. In order to investigate this, evidence was collected through three purposively sampled case studies of large principal organizations undertaking projects in Australia-each representing a different type of customer in the supply chain on construction projects. Our findings suggest a gap between the theoretical potential and practical application of BIM to reduce information asymmetry. The study found that, although BIM has the capability to reduce information asymmetry, it has not reached a mature enough stage in the Australian construction industry to clearly confirm that it actually reduces the problem. There is even a degree of evidence that, under certain circumstances, a reverse asymmetry may exist in which a client has the technical knowledge to more successfully analyze the BIM model (relative to the organizations they contract with) and then use the resulting information to their own opportunistic advantage. Traditional resources for ascertaining risk and protection for disengaged youth are often unsuitable, due to the stamina and skill required to complete them. Many of these tools assess risk without considering participants’ potential for personal growth. The present study outlines the development and initial validation of a tool titled the Contextualized Assessment Tool for Risk and Protection Management (CAT-RPM), which was administered to 499 participants across a range of high school settings. Six factors emerged that were highly correlated and had good internal consistency. Multivariate tests strongly suggest that the CAT-RPM is a valid and psychometrically sound assessment tool for differentiating groups across sex, age, and antisocial behavior. The research reveals a reliable measure of risk and protection that can assist young people to recognize and build on their strengths and adds a positive dimension to traditional risk assessment tools. The Psychopathy Checklist–Revised (PCL-R) and derivatives, designed for use in offender samples, have proven psychometric properties but are resource intensive and difficult to use in nonincarcerated samples. The Psychopathic Personality Inventory–Revised (PPI-R) is a well-validated self-report measure, used in community samples, but there is limited data on its correspondence with the PCL-R. This study compared the Psychopathy Checklist: Screening Version (PCL:SV) and PPI-R in a sample of Australian prisoners (n = 48) to determine the correspondence between the measures in characterising psychopathy. We also conducted an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) of the PPI-R’s subscales. While strong relationships were found between the total scores of the two measures (r = .554), correspondence between the dimensions was poor. EFA did not support the two-factor solution. Our findings question the degree to which one can assume that these measures capture the same construct and highlight the need for further research delineating the PPI-R’s factor structure. This study examined the construct validity of the Paramedic Graduate Attribute scale (PGAS) using factor analysis and Rasch Analysis. A convenience sample was used in the study involving paramedics from all states and territories in Australia. Participants were asked to rate the importance of 47 graduate attribute items. Principal components analysis (PCA) was undertaken on the 47 items followed by Oblique Oblimin rotation. For the Rasch analysis item fit, item invariance and dimensionality were examined. A total of 872 paramedics participated in the study (23% response rate). PCA of the 47 items revealed seven factors with eigenvalues greater than 1, accounting for 40.6% of the total variance. The subsequent Rasch analyses based on the seven factors produced seven misfitting items and confirmed a 7-factor solution. The 7-factor PGAS produced a good fit to the Rasch Model and exhibited good reliability and unidimensionality, offering the Australian paramedic discipline a set of empirically based graduate attributes. This study examined the organizational culture of Australian Antarctic stations in terms of behavioral norms and expectations. The study also investigated the relationship between perceptions of Antarctic station culture and individual attitudes and job outcomes. Participants were 116 returned Australian Antarctic expeditioners. Results showed that the overall profile of Antarctic station culture reflected a satisfaction-oriented culture, with the majority of participants describing Antarctic stations as open, friendly, and participatory environments. However, results also revealed gender differences in perceptions of Antarctic station norms and expectations. Although men generally described Antarctic station culture as open and team oriented, women described it as rule-oriented, hierarchical, and nonparticipatory. Perceptions of Antarctic station culture were related to individual attitudes, including satisfaction with being a member of the expedition and intention to return to the Antarctic. The psychometric properties of the Frost, Marten, Lahart, and Rosenblate Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (1990) are investigated to determine its usefulness as a measurement of perfectionism with Australian secondary school girls and to find empirical support for the existence of both healthy and unhealthy types of perfectionist students. Participants were 409 female mixed-ability students from Years 7 and 10 in two private secondary schools in Sydney, Australia. Factor analyses yielded four rather than the six factors previously theorized. Cluster analysis indicated a distinct typology of healthy perfectionists, unhealthy perfectionists, and nonperfectionists. Healthy perfectionists were characterized by higher levels on Organization, whereas unhealthy perfectionists scored higher on the Parental Expectations & Criticism and Concern Over Mistakes & Doubts dimensions of perfectionism. The article evaluates the research and development in teacher education in Australia. The author focused on the topic of discussion for higher education teachers. The federal government has mandated the merger of many relatively small and independent colleges and College of Advanced Education into single multi-campus college. Some of the potential theoretical gaps between teacher education curriculum practice and school-based curriculum development which is a national movement in the country were also explored.
