This paper interrogates the extent to which imaginaries of climate and ecological breakdown attend to the memories, knowledges, and experiences of communities already impacted by histories of racism, colonialism, and poverty. Drawing on insights from Black studies and decolonial thinking, the article reflects on how the causes and effects of anthropogenic climate change can be mapped onto geographies of racialised violence and social dispossession. Specific emphasis is given to Rio de Janeiro, notably its port area, a geographical space where future-oriented narratives remain oblivious to the city's history of anti-Black violence and Indigenous genocide. In parallel, the paper looks at the recently built Museum of Tomorrow and its public representations of the Anthropocene. Overall, the article contends that pluralising accounts of the Anthropocene might offer alternative epistemic entry points for understanding and interrupting the mounting ecological catastrophe. This article explores the paradoxical behaviour of Brazil in relation to its national and international approaches to the regulations of access to genetic resources and benefits sharing with indigenous and other traditional communities. Brazil was one of the leaders in the international negotiations that led to the UN Nagoya Protocol but only ratified it 11 years later, after remarkable transformations of its internal biodiversity laws. We suggest that the seemingly contradictory behaviour has been shaped by the country's internal political and ideological changes. This transformation goes hand in hand with substantial changes in state–society relations, particularly with regard to the balance of coalitions' power between indigenous groups and industrial and agrarian elites. The article builds on the literature on state transformations and relies on the Advocacy Coalition Framework to show the importance of considering the impact of national-level politics on the fate of international agreements. Focusing on the Italian language press in Argentina and Brazil, this article explores the role of the foreign language press in the immigrant process of acculturation. Specifically, the author evaluates La Patria degli Italiani of Buenos Aires and Fanfulla of São Paulo. These two papers, in their respective communities, retained the largest circulation and were generally acknowledged to be the most influential. This article seeks to contribute to the debate about participation and health by presenting a framework for psychosocial interventions in primary health care. It highlights the social psychological dimensions of participation and the role it plays in improving conditions of living and thus health. The Freirean concepts of dialogue, recognition and conscientization, combined with understanding of local knowledge are suggested as guiding notions for psychosocial interventions seeking to enhance community participation and develop the local level. The article discusses the challenges as well as the potential gains experienced in the process of participation presented. It concludes by reaffirming the importance of participation and empowerment in health interventions struggling against health inequalities and seeking health for all. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
