The authors in this article will present storytelling through the lens of the humanbecoming family model. From this perspective, storytelling can be viewed as the following: (a) family storytelling as a mode of fostering personal and family becoming, (b) family storytelling as a confirming of family beliefs and values, and (c) family storytelling as a way of addressing issues of grief and loss. Selected literature is presented to highlight the essences, paradoxes, and processes of the humanbecoming family model.

Parse's humanbecoming concept inventing model provided a unique method to conduct a group concept inventing of the humanuniverse living experience of hiding. Several insights related to conducting a group concept inventing project are identified along with an ingenuous proclamation for hiding.

The concept of high altitude leadership and the humanbecoming leading-following model are explored from the perspective of the Executive Director of the South Dakota Board of Nursing. The humanbecoming essentials inherent in leading: commitment to a vision, willingness to risk, and reverence for others, are discussed in relation to high altitude leadership concepts that illuminate the risks, dangers, and patterns for surviving the threats that may surface along the journey of leading.

The authors of this column describe the South Dakota Board of Nursing's 11 year journey utilizing a humanbecoming theory-based regulatory decisioning model. The column revisits the model with an emphasis on the cocreation of a strategic plan guiding the work of the South Dakota Board of Nursing through 2014. The strategic plan was influenced by the latest refinements of the humanbecoming postulates and the humanbecoming community change concepts. A graphic picture of the decisioning model is presented along with future plans for the theory-based model.

An interdisciplinary consortium organized a group to explore the meaning and the future of nursing in South Dakota using scenario planning. This column provides a general description of the four scenarios that emerged, some observations about how they might evolve, comments on their implications, and first-person stories, as told by fictitious residents. The process of scenario planning is connected to nursing science by explicating how five lessons of scenario planning are linked with Parse's human becoming concepts of creative imagining, glimpsing the paradoxical, and affirming personal becoming.

This article seeks to contribute to human becoming theory and to nursing by providing an international human becoming hermeneutic study of Thomas Hegg's A Cup of Christmas Tea. The human becoming hermeneutic method was used in this study to discover emergent meanings about human experiences. Guided by the method, the authors discovered three emergent meanings: honoring the cherished; communing with the was, is, and will be; and triumphing with new vision. These meanings were synthesized by the authors. A Cup of Christmas Tea is the story of the way triumphing with new vision arises with honoring the cherished in communing with the was, is, and will be. The conclusion for families and nurses is that by remaining open to all possibilities that exist in each now, moments of serendipitous togetherness can transform human trepidation and negative views of later life.
