Mellitic triimide derivatives with N-benzyl groups form conformations with concave cavities, that are capable of including aromatic molecules such as benzene, nitrobenzene, etc. In addition, they act as supramolecular gelators, which enable the detection of aromatic molecules as a gel-sol phase transition.

We propose a novel strategy for a high-throughput sensing of metal ions using a molecular self-assembled colourimetric chemosensor array. The proposed colourimetric assay has been achieved by only using the combination of commercially available materials. Importantly, the easy-to-prepare assay can be utilised to quantitatively detect metal ions under competitive conditions.

Herein, we report an organic field effect transistor (OFET) with an extended-gate modified by an artificial receptor for the detection of mercury(II) ions (Hg(2+)) in water. The sensor device is easy to fabricate, reusable, disposable, and portable. Thus OFET sensors could be applied for low-cost on-site detection of Hg(2+).

We propose an organic field effect transistor (OFET)-based sensor design as a new and innovative platform for anion detection. OFETs could be fabricated on low-cost plastic film substrates using printing technologies, suggesting that OFETs can potentially be applied to practical supramolecular anion sensor devices in the near future.

Diindeno[1,2- b :2',1'- n ]perylene, a new derivative of the indenoacene family was synthesized, and its electronic, electrochemical, and electrical properties were investigated. This material has a closed shell electronic configuration which corresponds to a quinoidal structure with a low band gap of 1.35 eV. Molecular packing in the single crystal was studied by single-crystal X-ray structural analysis, and this information was subsequently used in the determination of the charge transfer integrals via density functional theory methods. The charge-carrier transport properties of the diindeno[1,2- b :2',1'- n ]perylene-5,12-dione and diindeno[1,2- b :2',1'- n ]perylene derivatives were investigated through the fabrication and characterization of field-effect transistors via both vacuum-deposited and solution-processed films, respectively. Diindeno[1,2- b :2',1'- n ]perylene exhibited a field-effect behaviour with a hole mobility up to 1.7 × 10 -3 cm 2 V -1 s -1 when the active layer was solution-processed.

Saccharides in water are detected electrically using an extended-gate type organic field effect transistor (OFET) functionalised by a phenylboronic acid monolayer. The response patterns of the monosaccharides are significantly different, suggesting that OFET devices can successfully read out the saccharide recognition behaviour of boronic acids and be potentially applied to healthcare devices modified with supramolecular receptors.

Novel OFET materials showing high mobility (0.77 cm2 V(-1) s(-1)) and good air-stability were developed using a benzobis(thiadiazole) (BBT) unit and the high FET performance was attributed to the low LUMO level and the film morphology.

New anthraquinone derivatives were prepared and used as active layers of organic field-effect transistors (OFETs); these devices showed good n-type characteristics and the quinones were found to be useful for organic semiconductors in OFETs.

New oligomers containing a pyrazine unit have been prepared: the bithienyl derivatives afforded p-type FET devices whereas the trifluoromethylphenyl derivatives showed n-type FET behavior.
