Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation of suicide-focused treatments delivered via a hybrid telemental health (TMH) and in-person format., Method: This study was conducted at four university counseling centers (UCCs) across the United States. Treatment-seeking clients were recruited from their local UCCs and participated in adaptive treatment strategies (ATSs) involving Treatment as Usual (TAU), Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Implementation outcomes, including appropriateness, acceptability, feasibility, fidelity, safety, and client satisfaction, were assessed. UCC clinicians participated in qualitative interviews focused on implementation of TMH for clients presenting with suicidal ideation (SI)., Results: Overall, treatments delivered via hybrid format were reported to be appropriate, acceptable, feasible, and satisfactory by clinicians and clients. Implementation of TMH was reported to be equivalent to in-person treatment across multiple measurement methods., Conclusion: Results from this study demonstrate that TMH is an implementable treatment modality for addressing suicidality, particularly for college students presenting to UCCs with SI. This study has implications for real-world clinical settings planning to offer hybrid treatment modalities to address SI. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT04728815.

Online news can be shared and promoted via social media, mobile push messages, newsletters, "most read" boxes, or the like. This can result in feedback loops, in which views attract even more views. Using full click logs for five regional newspapers in the Netherlands, spanning N views = 12,108,263 views of N articles = 17,982 articles for each minute over the course of 13 weeks, we shed light on potential feedback loops. While article placement and promotion decisions indeed increase their views, we find these effects to be short-lived, contradicting the feedback-loop hypothesis. Exceptions in line with the feedback-loop hypothesis mostly concern social media: If an article is spread via social media, it is not only clicked more, but also clicked on for a longer period of time., Competing Interests: No potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s)., (© 2024 The Author(s). It is a growing concern that the use of sex dolls and robots could affect human sexuality. This concern has led to a ban of child-like sex dolls in several countries and a call to ban adult-like sex dolls and robots by some scholars. However, empirical data is largely missing supporting this claim. Here, we present retrospective self-reported quantitative and qualitative data of a large sample ( N = 224, 90.5% men, Mean age  = 31 years, SD  = 14.2) of teleiophilic (i.e., sexual orientation toward adults) and pedo-hebephilic participants. Using an online survey, we found that users reported an overall reduction in sexuality-related behaviors (e.g., porn consumption or visiting of sex workers) in response to doll ownership. Users in a relationship with a human were less affected by doll use, while those in a relationship with a doll reported greater effects. Interestingly, pedo-hebephilic users reported a greater reduction of sexual compulsivity compared to teleiophilic participants following doll use. Additionally, pedo-hebephilic participants more often reported acting out of illegal sexual fantasies with their dolls and a loss of interest in (sexual) intimacy with real children through doll use in the qualitative data. These self-reported data challenge the view that doll use is dangerously affecting human sexuality and instead suggest that dolls may be used as a sexual outlet for potentially dangerous and illegal (sexual) fantasies.

Background: Emotion regulation plays a crucial role in well-being in everyday life. Effective emotion regulation depends upon adaptively matching a given strategy to a given situation. Recent research has begun to explore these interactions in the context of daily reports of perceived stress, affect, and emotion regulation strategy usage. To further understand these differences in strategy efficacy in an ecologically valid context, we examined responses to real world stressors in a young adult sample., Methods: We surveyed a range of emotion regulation strategies, including two forms of cognitive reappraisal (i.e., reinterpretation, which involves cognitively reframing one's emotional responses, and psychological distancing, which involves adopting an objective, impartial perspective). Participants reported strategy usage, momentary perceived stress, and affect in response to multiple ecological momentary assessments over a period of 7 days., Results: Analyses of links between strategy usage and affect revealed that rumination was significantly negatively associated with more positive affect ratings. Further, a significant interaction between momentary perceived stress and reinterpretation usage was observed on affect, such that reinterpretation was more adaptive during situations perceived as less stressful., Conclusion: These results provide further insight into the importance of situational context in determining the effectiveness of particular emotion regulation strategies.

Good sleep before and after competitions is crucial to cognitive, physiological performance and recovery. Yet, elite athletes face a unique set of challenges when acquiring good sleep before and after competitions, and indeed commonly report sleep problems when it matters most. This study examined the sleep of elite athletes before and after competition compared to before and after free days. A total of 1808 unique nights of actigraphy ( n  = 1495) and sleep diary ( n  = 1335) data from elite Australian Football League and National Rugby League male athletes ( N  = 85, M-age = 24.4 ± 3.6) were collected and analysed using multi-level mixed models. On nights before competitions, athletes advanced sleep timings ( p  < .001, d = 0.63) and increased total sleep time ( p  < .001, d = 0.65) compared to nights before free days. On nights after competitions, athletes delayed sleep timings ( p  < .001, d = 1.64), reduced total sleep time ( p  < .001, d = 1.28), and had significantly worse quality sleep ( p  < .001, d = 0.71) compared to nights after free days. Sleep was especially worse following night competitions. While elite athletes and organisations may be implementing effective sleep strategies to optimise sleep the night before competitions, strategies to improve sleep after competitions may be lacking. We discuss potential factors contributing to this asymmetry and propose areas for research moving forward.

Objectives: Novel skill learning has been shown to have cognitive benefits in the short-term (up to a few months). Two studies expanded on prior research by investigating whether learning multiple novel real-world skills simultaneously (e.g. Spanish, drawing, music composition), for a minimum of six hours a week, would yield 1-year cognitive gains., Method: Following a 3-month multi-skill learning intervention, Study 1 ( N  = 6, M age = 66 years, SD age = 6.41) and Study 2 ( N  = 27, M age = 69 years, SD age = 7.12) participants completed follow-up cognitive assessments 3 months, 6 months, and one year after the intervention period. Cognitive assessments tested executive function (working memory and cognitive control) and verbal episodic memory., Results: Linear mixed-effects models revealed improvements in multiple cognitive outcomes from before the intervention to the follow-up timepoints. Specifically, executive function increased from pre-test to the 1-year follow-up for both studies (an effect driven mostly by cognitive control scores)., Discussion: Our findings provide evidence that simultaneously learning real-world skills can lead to long-term improvements in cognition during older adulthood. Future work with diverse samples could investigate individual differences in gains. Overall, our findings promote the benefits of lifelong learning, namely, to improve cognitive abilities in older adulthood.
