A comprehensive experiment of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) intercalated nickel-titanium layered double hydroxide (NiTi-LDH-SDBS) synthesis and application in dye adsorption is designed. The NiTi-LDH-SDBS with SDBS guest molecule in the interlayer were successfully synthesized, and characterized by X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. The dye adsorption performance of the intercalation complex and the dye removal rate were quantitatively analyzed by ultraviolet-visible absorption spectroscopy. The results show that the adsorption of methylene blue (MB) on NiTi-LDH-SDBS is better than that of methyl orange (MO), owing to the stronger guest-guest interaction between MB and SDBS. The adsorption behavior of MB on NiTi-LDH-SDBS accords with Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo-second-order equation, the calculated saturated adsorption amount was 181.2 mg/g, which was basically consistent with the experimental measurement of 176.4 mg/g.
