A known case of acute lymphoblastic leukemia presented with short history of COVID-19 infection complicated by mucormycosis, admitted to emergency department complaining from irritability, sweating and central cyanosis. After providing a detailed history, clinical examination and laboratory work up; he was diagnosed as acute myocardial infarction that needs fibrinolytic treatment in PICU and then discharged well. The current research is a study of the number of occurrence, classification, and sequence of apology as a speech act in Iraqi Arabic. The examination depends on a set of 550 natural apology interactions obtained by ethnographic observation method. The findings indicated that the obvious utterance of apology with a 'demand for forgiveness' اسفف')fwan)1 (sorry) was the most frequent apology speech act in Iraqi Arabic and the above token with 'confession of being guilty' constituted the common set of apologies in Iraqi Arabic. The study also indicated that the same combination of apology speech acts utilized in other examined languages was frequent in Iraqi Arabic; however, the tendencies for employing these speech acts seem to be culturally dependent. In Iraq; there is a great demand for handling some epidemic diseases such as hyperglycemia and hyperlipidema through searching some medical plant extracts which the country is rich with and contains an important phytochemicals that may solve the incidence of such cases. Aloe vera that cultivated in Iraq, is known to be rich with biological active constituents. The aim of the present study; the plant gel extract was subjected to treat an induced diabetic lab mice through injecting streptozotocin dose with high fatty food to elevate lipid profile before induction of the gel oral treatment of the plant. In the study results: the oral administration of A.vera gel at concentration of 300mg/kg animal weight gives a reduction in glucose level reached to 122mg/dl at the end of the experiment as well as the anti-diabetic drug Glibenclamide in a dose of 600µg/kg body weight as the glucose level decreased to 123mg/dl glucose in comparison to glucose level 250 mg/dL at zero time. Also the plant gel shows an effect on lipid profile that include cholesterol, triglycerides and High density lipoprotein levels; the A.vera extract after 21 days treatment causes decreasing in all lipid levels; even in normal mice fed with the extract only, except the High density lipoprotein levels had no change after the extract treatment than the negative control. Background: Urethral stricture disease is one of the oldest and most difficult maladies known to the urologist. While references to the disease and its treatment date back to the writings of the Hindus, Egyptians, and Greeks. Objective: To elicit the incidence of urethral strictures, their severity and management in patients with superficial bladder tumor. Patients and Methods: From January 2018 to January 2020, we followed 98 patients admitted and treated at Baquba Teaching Hospital urology unit for having bladder carcinoma. Theywere all male subjects, their age range from 38-76y with a mean 56.8y. They were required to have a cystoscopically and histologically proven superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder to be enrolled in this study (invasive tumors were excluded). For all the patients and after having the cystoscopic diagnosis, transurethral resection of the tumor done and in most of them this is followed by six week courses of intravesical chemotherapy (either mitomycin or doxorubicin according to the availability). Intravesical Doxorubicin used in 13 cases (56.5%), Mitomycin C in 6 cases (26.1%) and 3 patients (13.0%) received both drugs (through multiple courses). while 1 patient (4.3%) received no chemotherapy. Thirteen strictures (56.5%) were managed by optical urethrotomy while 10 cases (43.5%) were mild strictures and opened just by introducing the cystoscope. Results: During the period of the study, a total of 23 urethral strictures were identified in the 98 male patients with superficial bladder tumor enrolled in this study, which constitutes an incidence of 23.5% all were diagnosed by the follow-up check cystoscopies. Patient age ranged from 38-75 years with a mean age 59.30+- 10.58. Among those patients with urethral stricture ,14 patients had also B.P.H (60.9%), but only 7 patients (30.4%) had a history of retention of urine. The urethral stricture was bulbar in all patients and it was mild stricture in 10 cases (43.5%), moderate in 6 cases (26.1%) and severe in 7 cases (30.4%). Prior to the diagnosis of stricture, 13 patients had been subjected to a single check cystoscopy (56.5%) ,6 patients (26.1%) had twice, while 4 patients (17.4%) had 3 or more cystoscopies prior to the occurence of stricture. Regarding intravesical chemotherapy prior to the occurance of stricture ,4 patients (17.4%) received 1-3 sessions, 10 patients (43.5%) received 4-6 sessions and 9 patients (39.1%) received more than 6 sessions. Intravesical Doxorubicin used in 13 cases (56.5%), Mitomycin C in 6 cases (26.1%) and 3 patients (13.0%) received both drugs (through multiple courses). while 1 patient (4.3%) received no chemotherapy. Thirteen strictures (56.5%) were managed by optical urethrotomy while 10 cases (43.5%) were mild strictures and opened just by introducing the cystoscope. Conclusion: Urethra stricture in patients with bladder carcinoma may be a substantial source of preventable morbidity, implementing a nursing education program may significantly decrease the incidence of stricture. Imprisonment, literally or metaphorically, is everywhere in reality, in language, in literature, and in our minds. The state of imprisonment has its own discourses and representations. Prison writing is a literary body necessary to fully discussion and a serious research in its tropes, poetics and metaphors. Many powerful literary writings have come to light from darkened confinements such as asylums, hospitals, trenches, jails, reservation camps etc. Prison is not an exception; it is an agonizing experience and asphyxiating space that affects and shapes the prisoner-writer’s career. Foucauldian notion “heterotopia,” the other spaces that mirror and yet upset the outer world, epitomizes the imprisonment tropes and goes beyond the space of prison to include real and psychological dimensions. The paper sheds light on the heterotopic images in the poetry of Etheridge Knight, his epitome The Essential Etheridge Knight, where the poet mainly hones and inspires his poet-identity in prison. Background: The optimal treatment of ureteral stones, particularly the lower ureteral stone, still controversial[5,13,15,18]. Objective: To assess the success rate of ESWL and tamsulosin in lower ureteral stone. Also to identify the parameters that affects the success rate of ESWL in the lower ureteral stone. Patients and Methods: Prospective study has been done on thirty-six patients sequentially selected from referred cases to the ESWL department in Sulaimania Teaching Hospital in the period from June, 2010 to January, 2011). All had radioopaque lower ureteric stone (from the lower border of sacroiliac joint to uretero-vesical junction). Stones ranging from (5.8 to14mm), twenty in the left side and sixteen in the right side, age ranging from (10 to 78 years), and only four of them had double J-stent (within 1 week before ESWL). Weekly follow up of all patients were done by U/S and twice-weekly by KUB for 6 weeks. Results: Twenty four cases (66.7%) were free of stone, five cases (13.9%) had residual stone and seven cases (19.4%) failed to respond, the most important two parameters that affect the result are the size of stone and number of sessions. Conclusion: ESWL is safe and useful, and it is considered to be the first favorable line of intervention for lower ureteric stones after failure of watchful waiting and medical expulsion therapy especially those without complications like obstruction. Background: The previous laboratory investigations confirmed local polio case was informed on 28th January 2000 and another two wild polio cases were reported from Resafa \ Baghdad province in 2014. The date of onset of these cases were February and April 2014 and both cases were connected to 2013 of Syria outbreak. Objective:To evaluate the knowledge and attitudes levels towards polio vaccination among staff of Technical Institute - AL-Suwaira. Patients and Methods: A study of cross-sectional design consisted of 170 a selected samples of Technical Institute \ AL-Suwaira staff members. Collected during January 2018.The knowledge and attitudes levels estimated by using typical design of self - administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used to explain the results. Results: Over all, 170 participants reacted to the questionnaire by a response rate of 93.5%. All respondents established a good knowledge and positive attitudes levels to poliovirus vaccination. Mean knowledge score (built on11 knowledge questions) and mean attitude score (built on 10 attitudes statements) of participants about polio vaccine were 14.45±2.38 and 26.5±4.5 respectively. The mainstream of respondents agreed that all children should be taken the polio vaccine (88.2%), and the sterility concerns that associated with polio vaccines (14.1%). Television (n=126, 39%) and Internet (n = 66, 21%) were the main social media sources that used by staff members to educate and modify themselves about polio vaccination. Knowledge defects were recognized in the management issues and how to dealing with vaccines (45.9%), the incubation period of poliovirus infection (38.8%) and the consequences of the poliovirus infection (56.5%) on the victims. Conclusion: Staff members of Technical Institute \ AL-Suwaira showed a good knowledge and positive attitudes levels about polio vaccination. Background: Plane warts represent a common self-limiting viral infection of the skin, caused by HPVs with no uniformly effective treatment modality and with a high rate of spontaneous recovery. Aim of the study: To evaluate and compare the effectiveness and safety of topical 5% KOH solution with topical 0.05% Tretinoin cream for the treatment of plane warts. Patients and methods: This study was conducted at Department of Dermatology and Venereology of Baghdad Teaching Hospital / Medical City from April 2015 to July 2016. Sixty six patients enrolled in the study. Patients were divided into two age and sex matched groups; patients in group (A) were treated with topical 5% KOH solution once at night for a maximum period of four weeks while, patients in group (B) were treated with topical 0.05% Tretinoin cream once at night for a maximum period of eight weeks. The patients were evaluated at 2nd, 4th and 8thweeks to assess the cure rates and side effects. Those patients who showed complete cure were asked to stop the treatment and followed up for 3 months to detect any recurrence. Results: Thirty patients from group (A) and twenty eight patients from group (B) completed the study, while the remainders were defaulted for unknown reasons. At the end of the 2nd week; 26.7% of patients in group (A) showed complete disappearance of their warts while, 65.7% of them showed partial response. Regarding group (B); no patients showed complete response, while 75% of the patients showed partial response. At the end of 4th week, 70% of group (A) patients showed complete response in comparison to 28.6% of group (B) patients. Partial or non- responders in group (B) continued with the treatment and were re- assessed at the end of 8th week; (60.7%) of patients had complete response. Recurrence of warts was recorded in 19% of group (A) versus 17.3% in group (B) patients during the 3 months period of follow up. Conclusion: Both 5% KOH solution and 0.05% Tretinoin cream are effective topical therapies in the treatment of plane warts and both can be prescribed as home remedies. Learning to speak two languages is just like any other skill. It has been found that there are various and valuable benefits to being able to speak multiple languages. Learning more than one language nourishes the brain and develops cognitive and social- emotional development, and the opportunities of successful learning. It is now believed that constant demand to switch between languages leads to several cognitive advantages. The present study focuses on the fact that an early stage of life is considered the best period of time to learn a foreign or a second language. Research has found that children who experience two languages at an early childhood stage normally become native of both. In related words, both bilingual adults and children have the ability to employ a distinguished executive functioning of the brain which assists them to shift attention, switch between tasks and find solutions for problems. Also, they have been found to have increased metalinguistic skills which reveal their abilities to think about languages and understand how it works. Class observation and interviews with teachers of kindergarten and primary school were conducted for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The findings indicated that students who received an English instruction before the age of six demonstrated higher language and cognitive ability than students who didn’t receive the English language instruction at the same age. Three azo dye compounds were prepared such as (A1, A2, A3) derived from reaction of 1,5- di hydroxy naphthalene with 4- amino benzoic acid, 4- amino benzene sulfonic acid and 4- nitro aniline, These azo dyes were identified by (CHN), infrared, ¹HNMR, and Mass spectroscopy . The effect of these azo dyes on the dissolution of copper in (1M HCl) solution was studied by weight loss and galvanostatic polarization techniques . The effect of temperature on the corrosion of copper at (303, 313, 323° K) was studied. The results indicated that inhibition efficiency increased with increasing temperature to reach (68.75,71.88, 76.56) of (A1, A2, A3) respectively at concentration (1000ppm), (240min) and temperature (323° K) . The effect of temperature on the corrosion rate and some thermodynamic parameters (corrosion current, activation energy, enthalpy, entropy and free energy) were evaluated . The results showed that these azo dyes as good inhibitors for corrosion of copper . Inhibition is due to formation of complex adsorbed on the copper surface .
