The article announces the opening of the British National Formulary (BNF) to nurse prescribers on May 1, 2006. School nurses, however, have recently become able to prescribe through the Community Practitioner Formulary and with extra education and training, will soon be able to prescribe through the whole BNF. Still, nurses are wondering whether this is a career development opportunity or if it merely lands them with a time-consuming work load that would be better left to other services.
